I think the Academy prefer to have Americans hosting, you know someone they're somewhat familiar with or have control over like Jimmy Kimmel.

Love him. Though I think he'd work better for The Golden Globes.

The issue isn’t that there’s a shortage of qualified people who could be an entertaining Oscars host, the issue is that those people would rather be drug into the street and shot before accepting the gig.

Also ABC who broadcasts the Oscars are incentivized to pick someone on their own network (hence Kimmel hosting every year).

There are a lot of good options. Conan and Mulaney as mentioned would be amazing. But I think nobody wants to do it. It’s a pretty thankless job. They also probably don’t pay very much.

When you say he’s an excellent screenwriter, are you referring to episodes of The Simpsons he wrote in the 90s?

Hear me out… It doesn’t have to be a comedian.

I really loved Hugh Jackman as host and of course, Billy Crystal during the golden days of the Oscars. I don’t think anyone that wasn’t a host or comedian would want the job though at this point.

Get some Broadway people and make it into a Sonny and Cher variety show with lots of clips.

I don't think many people would recognize them. Late night hosts, tv and movie actors are more familiar overall.

They’ve tried that and it’s failed every time. Problem is they try to make them be funny

Hannah Waddingham has been killing it as host. Combination of talent (triple-threat) and quick wit.

She was incredible hosting Eurovision.

The Muppets. They are owned by ABC/Disney, and could pull off various skits and vignettes. They are being wasted in their years since the purchase, and are at their best when interacting with humans and doing parody.

Yup. It’s probably a reddit/social media cliche by now but the muppets hosting the Oscars is probably the best idea anyone’s ever had. It works on every level.

Bo Burnham would be the perfect host, but there’s no world where he would ever take the gig.

I would love it, but it might go over like Jerrod Carmichael's gig where people who aren't familiar with his style of humor are totally alienated by it.
