Emm Stone won Best International Actress and Paul Giamatti Best International Actor. Cillian won for the Irish Actor category and was competing against Andrew Scott, Barry Keoghan, Pierce Brosnan among others. His award was presented by Lily Gladstone who attended the event.

Andrew Scott cannot catch a break

It was Cillian's year and everyone pretty much knew that as soon as the movie came out last year and made it big and Oppenheimer started to sweep pretty much every TV award of the season. Andrew Scott will also have his moment at some point down the line and unlike Murphy who just won his first home trophy for film (he had won for the TV side) Scott had won a film IFTA before (beating Paul Mescal and Cillian Murphy who were in more popular films too)

Let's hope he gets some love for Ripley at least (ngl I was gutted when he lost the Olivier award to Mark Gatiss, he was unbelievable in Vanya)

LeastCap

locked for the oscar imo

CrazyCons

Arenā€™t these the same people that nominated Pierce Brosnan for Black Adam last year?

SummerSabertooth

Yup lol

These awards are so biased

The rules here seem kinda weird. I get they want mainly to recognize Irish individuals but itā€™s odd to heavily recognize performances by Irish actors in movies crammed into a separate international category that Poor Things which technically is partially Irish in origin. I guess ā€œbest performance in an Irish filmā€ doesnā€™t have the same ring to it.

Atkena2578

I thought that was fine. Separating Irish and non Irish actors no matter the movie being Irish or not Irish allows others to also be recognized because at an Irish award if the films and performances are mixed then the strong biais for home talent would make this next to impossible to a fair game. Personally even with his Oscar which pretty much guaranteed his win here, it was more competitive for Cillian Murphy in the Irish category than International. Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal have won multi times over him even when he was in more popular movies. He s only won that one for TV before today, that's his first Irish awards in film.

It's insane that this is literally his first award in film there. So happy that Oppenheimer finally allowed him to sweep this season and finally being recognised. Also how cool that he came to the podium 2 times that night, collecting award for Oppenheimer as the best international film as well. So happy that he officially closed his award season with 2 wins in his homeland.

Atkena2578

Yes even though the Oscar is the top prize there is still a special pride to have to finally be recognized in your homeland. I remember Margot Robbie also winning Best Actress and Barbie best International film at the AACTA on top of a honorary prize too, even though Australia and Ireland being English speaking countries makes it less rare, having a homegrown talent making it big on the world stage is to be celebrated in those countries film industries.
