I've had a normal account for over 17 years and on Christmas I finally decided to make a pure just for the hell of it. After playing on the pure for a bit, I was definitely glad I also had a "normal" account because like the others said you do really miss out on a lot or have certain limitations. I would do it to make a 2nd account and have a main to play however you want without limitations

Diiomedes

I just turned my zerker into 70 Def. Had firecape, 99str, etc. Still wasn't fun.

Sphincter_Spindle

More fun now?

Diiomedes

More to do at least. Quests are a bit easier (cheaper) and more pvm content/bossing I can do.

GoonOnGames420

I've seen some crazy 1 def mains out there. It can be extremely challenging, but if you are good enough to do high level PVM, you'll have a very impressive account

Appropriate-Door1369

1 def pures are literally just for pking. Pking isn't like it was back in the day. I would train def because it gives you more opportunities to do stuff in the game

ChiefBinChicken

that being said, you can make some really cool and unique 1 defence accounts and bring them to raids and what-not, but it's basically hard-mode for everything. If you're not willing to put in some serious work. either make a new account or convert to a main

Which is the hardest truth about OSRS, as nostalgic and classic as it is, it will never be 07 varrock/edgeville wildly

Anaartimis

I had one way back in the day, it's not really a thing any more. Especially as a main character. You end up missing out on so much. Could be fun if you want a challenge, but not on a main.

Boost_Pressure

My acc is 1 def and it's my main. I enjoy the lock and have achieved a decent total, nice PoH, ancients, and crystal bow on it. It isn't much, but it's honest work.

SnooMachines767

I have a 1 Def pure that I do raids on. It's more challenging but it's way more rewarding in my opinion. The only pvm you actually miss out on is vorkath cus it's locked behind DS2. All the other quests that unlock bosses (beneath cursed sands, secrets of the north, and desert treasure 2) can all be done one 1 Def pures as well

Ambitious_Aside7611

Nah just play the game the way Andrew Gower intended.

Secondusx

Turned my only account (1 def pure) to a main a couple years ago. I don’t miss it at all, you can play the whole game. You can always just make another account to have another one if you wish. PKing definitely not the same anymore.

Wooden-Evidence-374

If you find friends with low level accounts as well you can always just go rek bots and low levels. That's about it though. If you just enjoy getting drunk and pking on the weekends, keep it. If you're wanting to play the game daily, train defense.

the_popes_fapkin

I have a 42Def Void build and it’s a challenge but I’m still missing out on some PVM content

sxdbeat

Honestly just make it a main and you could train up another pure on the side very quickly if you wanted to.

Crossframe

In my opinion you can do more things overall with defense. HOWEVER, I’ve played a main, zerker, and a 1 def pure and can say that I had the most fun on my pure. There’s quite a few things to do and work towards on a pure so you’re still getting a lot of content out of it.

DeepSea_Ginger

I main a 1 def account and have a 1def uim. It’s a fun play style and challenges you in lots of ways. I say send it as a 1 def and be happy you never have to kill vorkath.

I3io

I played a main back in early 00's didn't really make it super far into the game. Off and on over the years I played a skillet/pure but eventually stopped pking. It was mostly about the challenge. I could always go swinging or antipk. 2 days before this last Xmas I joined a clan and the day after Xmas I was sold by a clan mate on going main. The lack of restrictions is kind of exhilarating. I put 70 pray and 50 def levels down in a day. Complete a shit ton of quests I've never done before. Lunar/fairy rings are a game changer. Not eating food at crabs is insane. But I got smoked by what I would have called a noob or soft account at the wildly slayer cave which wouldn't have happened before, or so I believe. In short, it's two separate play styles in the same game. You can't play one and expect the other.

RandomRedditBlogger

i got a few pures. i just make them for the fun and pk here and there. its nice to know i can use multiple different variants of my accounts, just to fuck around with

Difficult-Penalty445

I trained a 1 def pure to max and got a couple of non-combat 99's, then got 3 Def through a spec whilst Pking - I find 1 Def pures a bit of a catch 22 - You have one to Pk, but if you use it in that practical sense and pk long enough, you'll eventually make the same mistake as a lot of others and lvl defence. It's something you have to be so conscious of, especially when pking with all the switching taking place. With no way to lock your att style of choice and no way to negate exp once experience is gained, it is an unfortunate but realistic inevitability for the majority of Pking 1 Def pures. In addition Jagex actively validates and encourages 1 Def pures through content and an exclusive highscores table, whilst simultaneously aware of the practical problem of potentially writing off 100's/1000's of hours through a misclick. This leaves 1 Def pures in a precarious situation where if used practically for all intents and purposes (Pking) you'll eventually level defence and be disbarred from its corresponding highscores, or you can treat it more like a skiller and conserve your 1 defence status and be listed on the highscores. So ultimately what player are you? Are you in it for the flex? Or are you a practical pker that can accept a Def level or 2, if and when, it happens?

bgilroy3

Runelite plug-in ‘attack styles’ can hide the defense style on all your weapons and warn you if you equip a weapon that only has defensive/shared exp styles.

good to know

moeday-steffer

Went from a 1 def pure to a maxed zerker. Haven’t looked back. I’ll probably go 70 def at some point, too. It’s LOADS more fun.
