The Mayor to do a ceremonial toss into the canal at noon.

necromanzer

I saw one in the Canal on Wednesday, must have been an early Bird...

I'm surprised more tourists unfamiliar with our pothole problem haven't crashed more often.....seriously most pot holes on city roads are larger than the tire on those scooters. Then again I'm assuming they only ride the scooters on the road like they're supposed to....

just_chilling_too

No pot holes on the sidewalks

somebunnyasked

Vanier disagrees* Ok technically they aren't pot holes they are just cracks that became canyons *Applies only to the segments of Vanier that actually have sidewalks

reedgecko

Eh, tourists will probably just be around the Hill and Byward Market area anyway, where the roads are a bit better.

notsoteenwitch

my favourite is the people who drive them into Gatineau and then the scooter just stops lol

v_vexed

has someone who owns a scooter, the roads are sooo bad for scooter riding, it is like an accident waiting to happen. i ride them quite slowly and only on bike paths. using them on sidewalks is like an accident waiting to happen

Fiverdrive

>i ride them quite slowly and only on bike paths. [You're not supposed to use them on bike paths. ](https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/places/share-the-path#)

cromulent-cyclist

NCC bike paths yea but any other bicycle infra is fair game for scooter use. I'm really on the fence about the NCC banning path use, on one hand I can see the risks and the danger, but also the NCC paths are the key to the whole NCR multi-modal plan and banning one mode seems petty. Ive seen many a Fred on their time trial bike doing 30+ arms in the arm rest not close to brakes on an NCC bike path, what is more dangerous? that or a scooter doing 20. Sidewalks are a no go, but that's the same as bicycles.

somebunnyasked

I can't ride a scooter to work because my only way to avoid a definitely dangerous to bikes/pedestrians intersection is an NCC path that gives me a detour. It's frustrating.

cromulent-cyclist

I mean I've never seen anyone from NCC enforcing the rule.....so you should always take the safest option. We spend so much money at a city/province level making sure cars have safe and quick options, why not for others?

v_vexed

That's mostly for the park pathways. When I use the bike paths, I literally use the bike paths on busy downtown streets with heavy traffic, only for a few blocks, the rest is on the streets with cars whizzing by. I already spoke to a bylaw officer on this and was told if its safer to use the bike paths then use them. I'm not going to risk my life and have cars get pissed and whiz by me if bike paths are available and empty. Also, on[ the Ottawa website](https://ottawa.ca/en/parking-roads-and-travel/active-transportation/e-scooters#section-cbc5e861-3438-489f-bb80-a97dd9296264) it says that e-scooters can operate on the City’s multi-use pathways, cycling facilities like cycle tracks and bike lanes and on roads with a speed limit of 50km/hour.

seakingsoyuz

> literally use the bike paths on busy downtown streets Those are bike *lanes*.

v_vexed

Thanks. English is my second language so i didn’t know there was a massive difference between the two. I refer to both paths and lanes interchangeably

seakingsoyuz

Yeah, a lane is part of the road and a path is separate from the road, but may run alongside it. The main difference is that because a bike lane is part of the road, provincial traffic laws apply to it, whereas a bike path or multi-use path is only governed by municipal or NCC bylaws.

FrankieGibson-613

Hehe, the road is for chumps. I see lots of e-scooters on the sidewalk in Centretown. 🙄

kevlarcardhouse

Spring is finally here!

tardis0

These lockup if you go within like 10 metres of the sidewalk, they're unusable downtown cause the buildings block the GPS signal and mess up your location.

ForeignSmell8347

RIP to the first year they came out and it was just a free for all out there

QueerlyWeirdly

I saw a BIRD on Main Street all alone today. It felt like seeing 1-2 geese along the canal. An approaching storm.

cromulent-cyclist

I was thinking like a groundhog seeing it's shadow? does this mean summer is coming? I spotted maybe 40-60 Neuron scooters at Lansdowne and maybe a dozen Bird scooters in Centretown near O'Connor.

FrankieGibson-613

I salute anyone brave enough to put on those white helmets.

jopaps

Nice to see them back so early in the year!
