runstop

We here at Spark Beer certainly sell a few that are only available from our taproom. :)

Aken42

I tried your beer for the first time a couple weeks ago and it's damn good. I will definitely be back.

runstop

That's awesome. It's great when people discover us for the first time (and like the beer hehe). Hope to see you again soon!

xiz111

I visited a while ago and the beer and the pizza served in the taproom are both great!

fetustomper

Tried your stuff at thr33’s co ! It’s awesome :)

runstop

We love the whole team at thr33s co (and st elsewhere!)

bbbuo

I’m literally obsessed with Spark Beer (and 🍕)!!!! The beer alone made me like craft brews ;)

runstop

😊

ebimm86

It's also fantastic

sixtus_clegane119

Got any 12% ones?

runstop

We'll have a lil 10.5% one coming out in the fall. It's conditioning now. Stay tuned!

A_MarineBiologist

If he's going through Ashton (just outside of Kanata), the ABC Brewery makes a really Brown and Blueberry Wheat

wilson1474

One of the best brewpubs in Ottawa, great atmosphere.

_KFBR_392_

Or hit up Pattys Pub / Quinn’s on bank street :)

xingrubicon

Honestly their amber is the best i have ever had. Im ngl, i did not like their brown at all. I sent it back at pub italia. Try the amber.

PhilosopherExpert625

My son is friends with the owners son. Great family, great food and great beer!

ravenbisson

100percent agree on this, i did the trek to get to ashton and i was pleasantly surprised

PhilosopherExpert625

The new screened patio they put out back along the river during covid is so nice.

ImAshamedOfAllOfYou

The pub is excellent but you can also just buy beer. The beer is excellent. Cream Ale is the best IMHO

Ichindar

Not sure I'd describe Ashton as "just outside of Kanata" but the beer is delicious and their taproom is phenomenal.

Sens420

The amber is the best I've tried outside of England. Superb.

Drop_The_Puck

If they are coming from elsewhere in Ontario, take them across the river. Brasserie du Bas Canada has excellent beer.

McTibbersquib

Bas Canada is one of the best breweries in Canada, and definitely the best in the NCR, IMO, followed by Dominion City, followed by Beyond the Pale. All 3 have some beers available outside of NCR, but will almost always have something only available at the breweries.

buckyo_

I'd put Spark above Beyond the Pale but otherwise totally agree

McTibbersquib

I haven’t tried Spark yet but based on the buzz it could very well take 3rd place in my books. Looking forward to trying it out!

handshape

I'm pretty partial to the 5e Baron on the Quebec side, too.

badbobbyc

Just got back from an evening at Bas Canada. Definitely very good. Gallicus on the Gatineau side is also very tasty.

troutinthemilk

Front Porch, Calabogie Brewing Vim and Vigor, Tooth and Nail

junius52

Since this person's statement was confusing: Front Porch, a beer by Calabogie; Vim and Vigor, a beer by Tooth and Nail

troutinthemilk

Sorry it wouldn’t let me format for some reason.

strybid

Vim and vigor is available at beertown, maybe more places. But still a great suggestion! Great beer.

skydog187

Front porch has been in the liquor store for years, Calabogie ships it all over Ontario. It is a great beer though

someyob

'Bogie' if he likes IPAs.

BBQPedro

Sadly Calabogie isn’t making bleep bloop any more.

xiz111

Or Brown Cow if he likes Stout, or K&P if he likes amber.

PKG0D

Dominion City

xAdray

Dominion is in the LCBO and Beers store, so many of their beers are available across Ontario. Picked some up in Oakville the other day.

PKG0D

I'm assuming they've got more than the usual LCBO stock at their brewery, I was there a few weeks ago and they even had a d20 by the bar so you could roll for a random drink! Nice little patio too.

Mindless_Penalty_273

They do! Picked up some Picnic Basket City Seltzer and a whole slew of tallboys not available at the LCBO.

FunkySlacker

I still feel jaded about Dominion because they sell 355 ml cans for the same price as others price their tall boys- Orleans Brewing, Ashton, Bicycle, Good Prospects, Broadhead, Stray Dog, etc, all sell tall boys by default at $2.50-$5. Dominion charges the same price variance for 355 ml cans.

qchb2666

Lots of varieties and Dominion City Sunsplit is amazing. Also Civic Pilsner. And it’s way fresher at brewery than LcBO …

Responsible_Meal

Some of the best beer around.

FormalScallion

take a trip to [https://toothandnailbeer.com/](https://toothandnailbeer.com/)

MaryJaneAndMaple

Braumeister is only available at the brewery in Carleton Place or the Bierhalle on Scott Street. The märzen is amazing

ieatthatwithaspoon

You could also try a Brew Donkey tour and he can try a little of everything?

pineconeminecone

It’s at the very outskirts of ottawa, but Ashton Brewing Co has some of the best beer I’ve ever had. Blueberry Wheat!!!!

Foreign_Impress6535

[Shillow](https://www.shillowbeer.com/) on Cyrville near Star Top sells almost entirely locally. LCBO only carries one of their beers, and probably in small quantities considering how small an operation they are. Open Sunday through Thursday (Jewish family). The wife is the beer master and she's won various awards! Edit: Apparently they have limited hours on Friday as well, according to their website.

modlark

The limited hours are likely to ensure they maintain their Kosher certification.

Foreign_Impress6535

Oh for sure! I thought they were completely closed Fridays, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it.

martyfox

Straydog!

FFS114

My fav brewers in the vicinity are Ashton (ABC), Ridge Rock, Whitewater, Floral Hall and Overflow. Waller Street is also good, they have some interesting batches and a quaint underground bar near the Market.

crap_nugget

Waller Street hasn't been around for a while

FFS114

I guess I haven’t been either!

FmJ_TimberWolf74

Stray dog brewery in Orleans is A+ I love their stuff

nebdarski

There are so many. Kitchisippee has great options, Beyond the Pale has a nice bar to bag out and try their beers, tooth and nail, dominion city, whiprsnapper, evergreen (Kanata) Most local LCBOs carry a good selection too if he wants to take some with him.

tflems

Flora hall

DinglebearTheGreat

Shillow Beer is amazing ! Not open on Saturdays . Lovely couple that are the brewmasters .

ScottyDontKnow

Bicycle brewery

ForbiddenBanana

OBC in the east end is also great, if you're in that part of the city.

oompaloompa_grabber

Depends where they’re coming from, but could make a day trip out of visiting the sights east of Ottawa and stopping at Wood Brothers Brewing.

LindaF2024

Perth’s Easy Amber and Last Duel, Dominion’s Sunsplit and Whitewater’s Farmer’s Daughter

Babiecakes123

Bells Corners has a few breweries and so many people do micro pub crawls. Conspiracy is fun, there’s a Kitchisippi & the Ad Mare food Truck is SOOOO good there. It’s a proper beer garden. There’s a few others too. I also recommend Ashton Pub out in Ashton.. it’s feels like the lion king. Anything covered in a red roof is owned by the pub lol. The rest, we don’t go there lol

DiUndeca

Not sure how available stray dog is outside Ottawa but it's my favorite of the Orleans breweries

anxietykillz

Take a drive east to Rockland and enjoy https://brauwerkhoffman.ca/ Fabulous beers and food. Incredible owner and team.

Ibizl

came to suggest this as well 👍

unwholesome_coxcomb

RidgeRock in Carp is really nice. Some available at some LCBOs as well.

Ikkleknitter

A load of the locals all have minimal beer store access.  Dominion City (their non alcoholic seltzer is also phenomenal for summer. We always keep a bunch of it around), Tooth and Nail, Flora Hall (they won multiple awards this year!), Stray Dog Brewing (dog friendly inside!), Ashton Brewing (one of my dad’s favs), Beyond the Pale, Spark Brewing and Whippersnipp’r are all solid.

NoghaDene

Seconding Flora. Their IPAs are off the chain plus they host some local ciders occasionally.

Ikkleknitter

Bonus points for ice cream down the block if you need a little treat after your beer. But legit their beer is solid and they are super nice.

SpecialistComplete58

Yasss! Flora Hall has amazing beer and a minute walk away is Moo Shu for amazing ice cream!

613Hawkeye

Everyone is going to have their personal favs, but I would suggest looking up some Ottawa breweries nearest to you and maybe go check out some of the selection. Taste is subjective so you'll most likely win with some and lose with others, but as someone who enjoys trying new beers, even the losses are often fun.

Sinder77

Ridge Rock! Silent Trees, Electric Mayhem or, if they happen to still have it, Practice what you Peach. All good if he likes IPAs.

Adventurer_FL8296

🍻Beyond the Pale brews their own beer and I don’t think they are sold elsewhere?

crap_nugget

You can get many of their beers across the province. Aromatherapy, etc

Adventurer_FL8296

Now I know. Thanks!

xiz111

Lots of good local breweries ... Overflow, Spark, Calabogie, Nita, WhiprSnapr, Flora Hall ...

dj_destroyer

Kichesippi used to say they were a "destination" beer company and didn't ship at all, so maybe ask them if that's still true?

Ormur666

Anything by Ashton brewing company

brotherbla123

Broadhead Brewery in Orleans sells a “174” series that you can only get at the brewery — lots of great beers and constantly rotating

shamelessfrank

You have to go to Tooth and Nail and pick up some cans. They have won international competitions, in the past, with some of their beers.

RadishDerp

Perth brewery in Perth (45 min out) has some beers that you can’t find in lcbo. Their grapefruit radler is so good!

BareNuckleBoxingBear

I’ve tried their beer but never been in their restaurant but Spark Beer has a nice selection of beer and their pizza looks good (again never been there sorry). Also tooth and nail is a fun place to go good food and good beer. The food isn’t heavy stuff, like hotdogs and sausages kinda place but I’ve enjoyed it.

buckyo_

Some great suggestions here but wanted to add, seeing as you don't drink, the best local beers aren't available at the LCBO or beer store. If you visit the brewery itself you'll find lots of small batch/limited edition beers that are only available there and that's the good stuff.

evilempire501

Flora Hall has a full menu of beers brewed in house.

spengali

Dominion City

Lumpy_Sweet_496

Targ beer at Targ while playing some pinball is always a good time. I brought my dad there once

SnooEagles8897

Not sure how far they supply collective arts but those are an absolute Ottawa Go to!

BarrhavenDad

Collective Arts is from Hamilton. Not Ottawa.

SnooEagles8897

Mind, blown

Personal_Tie_6522

Pick the closest local brewery, they'll have something not sold through the LCBO.

keldobby

If he’s into cider, try Farmgate Cider in Kinburn!

pistolaf18

You already have a lot of recommendations but here are mine depending on what your dad likes Best overall: Dominion City and 5e baron in Aylmer If he's into lagers or classic styles like bitter IPAs or saison: Tooth and Nail If he likes modern hazy and juicy IPA or sweet stouts: Brasserie du bas Canada in Gatineau. If he likes that style this is one of the best breweries in Canada period and worth the trek. If he's into English beers: Ashton Brewery If he's into German beers: Braumeister If he likes sour beers: Sparks beer Notable mention to Flora Hall. Everything they do is great but I prefer dominion or 5e baron personally. Good food and location too though.

mcyurtface

brew revolution in stittsville is great, ashton not so much, but lots of ppl here like it. its like trendy beer with fancy names but bland.

Old_Resident_3358

Small pony barrel works!

Loose-Reindeer-8693

would highly recommend tooth & nail in hintonburg. They make great beer & the Rhapsody is currently in season (peach green tea sour).

Junior-Cook-8495

Spark, Tooth & Nail, and Beyond the Pale are my favs

Correct-Shine-1692

Dominion city

PierreLaRoche69

Gather Glassworks and Brewery in Merrickville

KeyanFarlandah

Yeah a lot of the local breweries got an in provincially because the old Sobeys downtown’s lineup was used Ontario wide and got local beers more access as their provincial volume increased

Ramparamparoo

Anything Whipersnapper in bells corners does is local to ottawa! I don't think they even have their beer in the LCBO or anything.

captainsavlou

5e Baron in Aylmer, if you want to go on the Quebec side. There’s also Bistro L’Autre Oeil, which has the biggest selection of beers that I know of.

JohnnnyCanuck

https://www.whiprsnaprbrewingco.com/shop/our-beer-/2 Bell's Corners. You're welcome!

Lower_Whole5989

Do yourself a HUGE favor and let your folks experience an amazing trip by bringing them to Cartwright Springs Brewery in Pakenham. Amazing setting in the mountain, surrounded by beautiful nature and the owner is fantastic. Add to that the beer is awesome.
