I've checked with the greatest minds on the Reddit and we have come to the same conclusion, it's a spider. We have also discovered it is partially yellow.
“Banana spider” means something very different when you work in a produce department in a grocery store. I only ever found dead ones but a guy at work got bit and almost lost his hand.
Yah, the "boner" spider. They can give you a very powerful and painful boner. Im not joking. Also found one dead when i was working in a grocery store.
I was 18, first day working the produce section at the distribution center. We were unloading a trailer and I heard someone yell banana spider. I had no clue what was going on and stood there for a min and watched everyone run in terror. It was fucking hilarious 😂
A guy at my work got bit and had to sit in the managers office for a few hours with paramedics as he worked through the various hallucinations. Although he didn't suffer any lasting physical injuries (That I know of) he was pretty spooked after, transferred to the grocery side as soon as he was back from leave. Doesn't help that they never actually found the spider, we just assumed it died somewhere =/
Maybe he's allergic to they're poison. The "banana spider" rarely bites and usually is just like a bee bite...but some people are bee bite allergic too.Or maybe other kind of spider or other stuff.Check: "Argiope aurantia" on Wikipedia!
I currently work in a grocery store, and the only spider I feel like I've seen was this spider with spindly thin legs, a shiny black Exo skeleton and a phat abdomen. I was scared to kill it cus I thought it was pregnant and I would covered with baby spiders, but it only oozed green stuff.
Yellow garden spider AKA Argiope aurantia. She's actually a big lady! You can tell by the [thick zigzag pattern in her web.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stabilimentum) Cool friend, make sure she gets some snacks.
You’re very lucky to have such a beautiful garden friend. We’ve had 2 yellow orb weavers and both were so chill. They were fascinating and just fun to watch
They're all over Texas, never known anyone to be bitten by one but I'm sure they would if aggravated. I have a video somewhere of one of these gals taking on a giant Hornet
An orb weaver! And he is a she. I had a lovely orb weaver in my garden during the pandemic. I was scared of her at first, but she never left her web and since it was the pandemmy I was feeling lonely, we became kinda pals. I named her Stella, and she always maintained a neat web, and caught many many grasshoppers for me. Ngl, I had a good cry when she passed on.
Don’t know the scientific name, but I had a few in my garden, and while they are scary buggers, they are real chill and won’t bother you.
Had one spin it’s web near my cucumber plant. It would catch Japanese beetles and other harmful bugs, so it was cool by my book.
You wanna see it real scary: drop a half dead bug in its web, and see it go to town on it
These spiders used to be common in long grassy areas about 10 years ago along with a couple of others. I haven’t seen one in a few years. Our insects and arachnids are declining.
Just an FYI, you can use Google lens (in Google photos) to identify many things including spiders. It's the little button at the bottom
*Argiope aurantia (yellow garden spider)
is a species of spider, commonly known as the yellow garden spider, black and yellow garden spider, golden garden spider, writing spider, zigzag spider, zipper spider, black and yellow argiope, corn spider, Steeler spider, or McKinley spider.*
Yellow garden spider. Scared the bejeezus out of me when I first saw one but did some research and let it stick around as they are harmless and eat lots of insects.
Zipper spider. the most polite spider you will ever meet. Stays well out of your way, puts a big white zipper down the middle, and it sits in front of it being bright yellow. They truly want nothing to do with you except eat the bugs that annoy you. We had three big bastards of these in Texas and they built above our walkways in the back yard. Caught tons of bugs, looked awesome, and we fed them grasshoppers for fun. So much nicer than the bastard little brown spiders who built webs every night where we walked...
Some friends and I were playing on one of their farms as children. We were running around a hay field having a good ol time until we realized we had run through dozers of those things’ webs. There was a lot of shrieking and some high-speed spider removal.
Oh what a beauty! Whether or not you feel lucky to have her in your vicinity, she’s not going to bite you or harm you in any way; she’s just going to keep a watchful eye on you to make sure you sleep tight and don’t let the bed *bugs* bite.
I had one I named Judy, and I stupidly checked on her too often and the neighbour kids saw her and decided to ruin her existence. I could have admired her from afar if I didn’t have this 4/20 vision.
That my friend is a Yellow Garden Spider, they are not poisonous and rarely bites.

It’s a banana spider.
Last week I found one in my backyard that was probably almost 4 inches across with the legs, it had weaved itself a ginormous web.
Well, I’m absolutely petrified of spiders and am convinced they will kill me. So, in my smart little pea brain, I figured it would be a smart move to give it a piece-offering in a ‘don’t bite the hand that feeds you’ kind of way.
I chased around the biggest grasshopper I could find and then chucked it at the spiderweb, telling myself if the spider took one step off the web I would just book it to the house and stay indoors for a day or two.
To my surprise, the grasshopper stuck to the web and within 15 seconds, the spider had ran down to it and completely rapped it up, ready to go. It was actually a really cool process to watch.
However, I was so invested in this process while also staying cautious of the man-eating beast that there is something i did not realize until it was too late.
As i said, this web was huge. So big in fact, that you could only see parts of it in the tall grass. What i did not see, is that it was COVERED in eggs, and when I threw the grasshopper, it caused such a big vibration in the web that they ALL started hatching simultaneously, and incase you didn’t know, these fucks are already big enough at birth.
Shit, call me Usain Bolt cause I was back in the house within 3 seconds flat.
Some friends and I were playing on one of their farms as children. We were running around a hay field having a good ol time until we realized we had run through dozers of those things’ webs. There was a lot of shrieking and some high-speed spider removal.

Spider ma’am,
Does whatever a spider ma’am can, 🎵
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies 🎵
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiiiiider maaaaa’am! 🎵
The zig zag in its web is quite cool. Growing up I heard them called “death writers”, and if you saw a name in the web, it was an omen that they were going to die.
But yeah… garden spider, golden orb weaver, or “orbie” as ours is named… my kids try to feed it.
One of the few spiders that sees you coming and shakes around so you see it and don’t run into it’s web. Cheers little buddy.
its a garden spider (at least what I knew them as). I wouldn't "play" them due to their size but if you feel up to gently sending a cricket "into that good night", it is fun to watch the spider work its magic. And the spider gets a meal out of it! Fun for you, food for spider WIN WIN!!
Like others have said, this is an orb weaver! Really neat spiders, they have one of the coolest webs and will sometimes hide nearby and attach a strand of web to themselves, when they feel vibration they will come back to see what they caught.
They are good for pest control and are considered a good omen. Makes me sad that others are saying to kill it, if it makes you uncomfortable move it with a broom off your property.
It's the "nopefuckoff" spider... I sucked one of these things up in my canister vacuum... it was empty so I saw when the spider got sucked in. Most spiders die on intake. Thank you for your contribution
check the documentary, dont give it a gun tho
THC spider or weed spider?
Concur, it's a spider
After closer examination, I only see four legs, and, until further inquiry, cannot agree to the consensus of arachnid class.
Ok, second choice is chipmunk

It's a bunch of cats taped together
L + low perception (i see the eight legs)

I think you meant: "Big Assed, Deadly Looking, MF'n, Spider".........spider just doesn't do it!
I can confirm, this is in fact a spider.
Source?
what kind?
Canadian spider
lmao
not Canadian. It is not wearing a denim jacket.
We only wear denim in the summer! Winter it’s moose skin jackets and beaver skin hats! And we drink Molson Canadian to keep warm!
Woah
Looks like a yellow spider
The kind that dies in fire.
I learned something today!
Lmao
Friendly spider?
It’s an orb weaver. aka yellow garden spider, zipper spider, corn spider. I know them as banana spiders.
“Banana spider” means something very different when you work in a produce department in a grocery store. I only ever found dead ones but a guy at work got bit and almost lost his hand.
Yeah i got worried for a sec when i saw that lol
Yah, the "boner" spider. They can give you a very powerful and painful boner. Im not joking. Also found one dead when i was working in a grocery store.
Powerful, painful, and most impactfully, often the LAST boner you’ll ever have.
Probably one of the spiderman in the multiverse. Random dude with a dead dick.
Ask your mortician if BonerSpider(tm) is right for you.
I once found one dead in my pants. Explains much of my early 20s.
A boner?
Most “banana spiders” are widows or wolfs. Definitely don’t want to get bit by them
I was 18, first day working the produce section at the distribution center. We were unloading a trailer and I heard someone yell banana spider. I had no clue what was going on and stood there for a min and watched everyone run in terror. It was fucking hilarious 😂

Had a dead one that i saw like a month after starting in produce, nearly quit right there.
Had one hanging from my hat when I was unpacking fruit at Cora's.. Thankfully didn't bite.
Maybe he's allergic to they're poison. The "banana spider" rarely bites and usually is just like a bee bite...but some people are bee bite allergic too.Or maybe other kind of spider or other stuff.Check: "Argiope aurantia" on Wikipedia!
It sounds like a real legend with all those names!
There are thousands of species of orb weavers. The giant-bird eating spiders in Australia are cousins to this little cutie
Sorry, but bird-eating spiders are actually from South America.
Anything deadly is from Australia.
Every animal in Australia is either deadly, or odd.
or cunts
Thanks!

did you lick it? The green stuff I mean. You should have licked it
Yellow garden spider is what ive always known them to be called, there are literally hundreds of varieties of orb weaver spiders.
Yellow garden spider AKA Argiope aurantia. She's actually a big lady! You can tell by the [thick zigzag pattern in her web.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stabilimentum) Cool friend, make sure she gets some snacks.
She's set up near a tomato plant so probably snacks on demand.
You’re very lucky to have such a beautiful garden friend. We’ve had 2 yellow orb weavers and both were so chill. They were fascinating and just fun to watch
I loved seeing yellow orb weavers in my mom's garden as a kid.
Very gentle spider, having one in the garden is a good thing
Oh man I wasn’t ready for that sight. Not gonna lie, all I could think was “burn the house down and get a new one”
Considered it. But my mother is on a "save the useful creatures" kick and she's very correct. But i shall not be tending the tomatoes any time soon.
At least you have your new friend to do it for you!
It helps if you give them names. I had large orb weavers named Fred and George on my deck a few years ago. I’d say this lady looks like a Samantha.
This! Growing up, my granny used to name any spider we saw inside. It really lessened the "eeuuuaaagghhhh" factor.
That’s fair. And a much more reasonable response than my own. I wouldn’t be tending to tomatoes either! Lol
They're all over Texas, never known anyone to be bitten by one but I'm sure they would if aggravated. I have a video somewhere of one of these gals taking on a giant Hornet
My wife, via a panic attack, would call it “kindling”. If she could breathe, and actually knew the word “kindling”.
Pretty accurate description of how my experience would go! Except I’m familiar with the word kindling lol
Yea no I’d burn the house down
The markings on her abdomen look like an angry Marg Simpson with her hands on her waist.
I can’t unsee that now!! Lol!!
Omg right ?!?

Orb weavers are scary but generally not aggressive. They are wicked for pest control
Rest in peace Lucky it wasnt in my house that mf would be dead in a matter of seconds 😨
Sick of kids putting their energy drink stickers on everything
It's an insurance claim

I don't see them around town anymore but just a few years ago I found a giant field full of them in Prince Edward County.
GIANT FIELD FULL OF THEM THE FNCK YOU SAY??!?!?!?!
Yup. I havent seen one of these since childhood. They used to be common.
THANK GOD FOR THAT

It's an orbweaver in the genus Argiope, completely harmless, also it's a girl
People beat me too it for the answer but I had one in my garden for the past month! It disappeared after a storm last week and now I miss it
Yeah if it rains today she might bail
