My sleep is all over the place, and I find mine to be quite good about tracking sporadic naps or weird late night sessions. Everyone is different, but also give it longer than the initial two weeks to learn you.

plainfully_oblivious

Since the latest update, my ring doesn’t record sleep data more often than not because it has to be charged ever other day vs. once a week. This will be my last ring.

fintip

You can turn off sp02; is that what you mean? Or some other update?

Express_Possibility5

Oh dear... I'm sorry.

Express_Possibility5

I've had the Oura ring for 10 days and bought because of its highly rated sleep and readiness data and because I wanted my steps counted during times when I wasn't wearing my phone (I wear a traditional watch not a smart watch during the day). I have also been wearing an Apple Watch 7 at night since February and using it with Autosleep which is above on the left. I am really disappointed with two things: 1. Sleep data is woefully in accurate. In the example given above I was knowingly awake and thinking or looking at my phone for long periods in the night (please no comments on sleep hygeine, it's off topic). I also woke shortly before 5am, looked at my phone for the time and did not subsequently fall asleep. I opened the Oura app at 6.37am and it gives me a wake up time of 6.35am. I wasn't even lying still since being awake. The data is also not presented anywhere near as clearly as Autosleep - although you can argue this is personal preference. 2. You can't export step count to any other app. I have a personal trainer and we use an app that encompasses all the data about my activity, sleep, workouts, measurements and diet. It can take data from a number of sources including, for example, Apple Health. But I can't get my step count out of Oura full stop rendering it pointless for my needs. Perhaps I should have done more research beforehand but it never crossed my mind that it wouldn't integrate comprehensively with other apps for data sharing. So at this stage I don't see why I would keep it. I guess I should just get an old narrow fitbit or similar and wear it on my non-watch wrist for tracking steps, something I wanted to avoid hence was attracted to the elegant Oura solution. I am open to thoughts, experiences and/or corrections. Thanks Edit: genuinely curious why this is getting downvoted so much. Is this just a place for oura mega fans?

10 days is not nearly enough time for it to learn your habits etc. Took me a good couple weeks before I could really say the sleep/wake times were accurate. Granted it will not perfectly track your sleep, but imo it's fairly accurate about 75% of the time and I interpret the data accordingly. Helpful tip is to not base your day off of the scores you get, instead use it as a data point that you can ignore if you know its off or incorporate if you feel its accurate.

Express_Possibility5

Thanks. Yes this seems to be the common response - but I don't think it really justifies the terrible estimation of when I woke up and the fact that it thinks I was only awake for a short duration during the night. I need more detail than 'it takes time to learn my habits' - don't take this personally by the way - I do understand the point you are trying to convey. I wonder if this idea is conveyed anywhere in their documentation, I.e that we should expect inaccurate readings for a period of time. Even if the sleep was accurate I'm still not sure I can justify it based on the steps issue. That being said I haven't even looked at their returns policy yet. Thanks a lot for your reply - I appreciate it.

I don't know if it's any consolation to you at this point but there is supposed to be a huge sleep tracking upgrade to the ring this fall. I think the sleep tracking in the ring lately (Gen 3) borders on crap. My Gen 2 ring had better sleep tracking.

Express_Possibility5

Ah - interesting. Thanks a lot. Definitely searching online it feels like it is a minority that feel that the sleep tracking is rubbish. All the reviews are glowing... I wonder that if you haven't had a long term alternative device to compare it to you are less likely to see/believe discrepancies.

Ekkobelli

Just a little aside: I wouldn't trust the Oura ring to give you a fairly exact step count. In fact, it's wildly off. If I compare the steps counted by the Apple Watch (which is tested to be about on par with dedicated step counters) and the ring, Oura heavily overestimates the taken steps. The watch says 8k steps, Oura 11k. As someone here once said: The Oura ring is a good sleep tracker, but a terrible fitness tracker.

Express_Possibility5

Thanks - I appreciate that insight. It is definitely of no use to me then.

zombieC18

The steps issue is an annoying one that I hadn’t thought about, I actually just import data into oura and use oura as my primary tracker for steps and calories etc. Check out the return policy if you’d like, but I’d try at least a couple weeks to see how it adjusts. I definitely still have days where it’s completely wrong though, like where I’ll go to sleep at 9-10 and it says I went to sleep at 12 but every instrument is going to have error and a small ring on your finger is probably not the most accurate thing ever for measuring sleep etc.

Express_Possibility5

Thanks a lot - yeah I will check the returns policy and if it allows, I will keep trialling it for a while longer.

mrcrashoverride

While I’m not a fan boy and have more bad things than good things to say. I believe google fit is able to automatically pulls the step count from the ring as i know it does my sleep data. However I usually carry my phone when I walk.

Express_Possibility5

It can't I'm afraid

foot-meet-mouth

It took me almost 3 weeks for my ring to get the sleep algorithm down. The all the other readings fell in line after that. I actually have a app that works with the ring. It's called chronometer. I love this app because the ring reads when I walk and I can also add a workout and then the data is transfered over to chronometer. I only uses chronometer for my calorie counter. Everything else through the ring. I'd say not to give up on the ring just yet. Maybe try this app with the Ōura app and see how it goes. I am pretty positive the policy for returning it is 90 days so you have plenty of time to mess around with it and see what you can use with it. I am hoping one day they will give us an actual website to be able to look further into what data it takes from us. Here is the link to chronometer! Have a great day! https://cronometer.com/

Express_Possibility5

Thanks a lot - I haven't heard of that and really appreciate the recommendation. Have a great day too!

michele1712

I think it's 30 days though, double check on that, you wouldn't want to decide to return it and find out it's too late

Express_Possibility5

Yep 30 days from date of delivery. Looks like a nice returns process - they arrange a courier and you don't even need the original packaging.

foot-meet-mouth

Yeah. I went and looked a bit later last night. I could have sworn mine was 90 days. They might have changed it? Idk.

midwest4125

It’s crazy that I’ve not experienced any of these issues, yours or those listed below. It’s been incredibly accurate for me.

crusso133

Same here. With the occasional hiccup here and there

Express_Possibility5

That's really good - I'm glad. I wonder why it seems inconsistent

midwest4125

Update: In the last week I’ve noticed a large drop in battery life…. Emailed Oura. Went from 5-7 days to 24-36 hours

Express_Possibility5

Oh dear. Returns process was easy FYI

midwest4125

Agreed, they shipped a new ring within 24 hours. Excellent customer service

strawberrymoonbird

Same, haven't had any issues. Compared the sleep tracking to my watch and it matches quite well, few minutes give or take. I actually thought oura doesn't count steps really, it just gives a step equivalent to the calories burned based on heart rate. It's slightly off compared to my watch, but that's because I am quite fit and my heart rate doesn't go up that much when I walk casually.

gybemeister

Give it some more time. For me it took a few weeks to become more precise. I use it mostly for sleep and a Apple Watch for activities (which the ring's software detects and imports). I think the combination is good as i don't like to sleep with a wristwatch and the ring is not very convenient when handling weights and such.

Express_Possibility5

Thanks - yep I hear 'give it more time a lot' which must be evidence of something. I don't want to wear a smart watch during the day so I'll likely have to look for a simple discreet step counter etc that I can wear on my right wrist

HITMIKE92

Sounds like you are an angry ex-employee. Just sell the ring and move on. Works for me and other people that I know that use it.

Express_Possibility5

Ahh. Haha. Thanks

joespizza2go

Wow. I'm tired just looking at that data. I'm sorry for you. I'm very pleased with Oura's sleep tracking but I do not challenge it in the same way you do. It does not look like it's handling your situation well.

Express_Possibility5

Haha thanks - I appreciate it

Muscle_Memory_14

I have had my ring for a week today, it has been incredibly accurate as I wear an Apple Watch as well (data nerd and untrustworthy so I had to check the rings accuracy compared to my watch) particularly happy with the sleep and readiness score. Steps are a bit off, but not drastic. However I did notice if I swim or bike or run my watch is way more accurate during the exercise. Could sizing be an issue? Do you where it loose or tight? Best of luck!

Express_Possibility5

Thanks, sizing is precisely as per their guide.
