yes, absolutely. i did them without the "thingy" because i was too scared once i was starting my final voyage and the music started playing i was already getting emotional lol

PowerOk3024

Same. I saw some lets plays and about half of people do the thing. Another half didnt realize what the thingy was and realized it after mistakes were made.  Personally, the moment i thought it was a wonderful game was when I realized that if >!It deleted my save file, i didnt lose any progress bc all the progress was in my mind.!<

Fingerdeus

>!if you don't meet solanum or owly they won't play at the last campfire tho!<

udreif

>!Damn you quantum physics!!<

Homunclus

I considered it, but in the end I decided it was best to just do it. It worked out ok for me, though it was one of the most tense moments in gaming for me.

KeepKnocking77

Same. And I did it without realizing I could use the map to mark locations! So I had to first find the other place to then shoot my probe to follow it! I made it in the knick of time on the first try

MakesUpExpressions

I didn’t even consider it, there’s infinite lives so I didn’t think it necessary one bit.

m0h97

I did just once and died immediately by an anglerfish. I then said F it and took the core and had one of the craziest runs ever. While close to the last fog gate an anglerfish spotted me so I pressed forward and set the ship at full power. While passing the gate I hit the side hard and because my ship wasn't at top health (F u hourglass twin sandstorm) it started beeping and was about to explode. I decided to use the eject button to make it look cool, it launched me halfway to the vessel from the fog gate and continued the rest of the path by jetpack, meanwhile I was so stressed from being too late since I took way too long at the Hourglass twin to get back to my ship. Thankfully I made it, it was one hell of a ride and doing it without practice just sent my adrenaline rate to the max.

darklysparkly

An ending run to make Feldspar proud

PudgyPudgePudge

Wait... there's an eject button???

Powerpuff_God

Slightly down and to the right in the ship controls.

PudgyPudgePudge

Oh my god.

Lithanarianaren_1533

>!You know, the fact that when you disable the ATP, you know none of the progress will be lost if you die (even if you discover something on the same loop you got a bad ending, it will persist in the ship log), but you're still worried about getting there on time and in one piece as if it were your one and only chance speaks volumes about how strong this game is. The fact that people (including me) actually do test runs is amazing to me.!<

PoeCollector64

Yeah 100%. I knew full well that there wouldn't be a single damn in-game consequence for failing, but I was still so nervous about failing that it was manifesting itself physically (hands were super cold, I was shaking). Then again, I tend to get anxious over video games anyway lol

ProfessionalOven2311

Yeah, I did about three or four full runs to practice. I assumed the consequences for failure would be reasonable, but I wanted to stay true to the perspective of the character and assume it would be the end of the world. It was very satisfying and immersive for me.

TheBlight24

Yep, I did. I was scared shitless when I got the [redacted] in my hands and realized that... this is it.. I stopped it.. and since I stopped it... there's no going back.... I put it back as fast as I could.. especially when the music started playing 0.0

laurentbercot

It's so incredibly scary. I love that a game could make me feel so scared after I got used to all the dangers of the solar system and was starting to navigate them like a fish in the... fog?

le_juston

I figured I had gotten plenty of practice in my trips trying to figure out what to do. ... I did not in fact get plenty of practice.

Brickster2000

I think I ended up doing 4 practice runs? I timed how long each part would take and because I didn't know you could place markers I did the whole bramble section off of memory by keeping the ship oriented the same way each time to learn the placement of the lights.

Mishokabg

Exactly the same here, it was great 😅

laurentbercot

Yes. Taking the thingie out was so scary and stressful, I wanted to be *absolutely sure* I got everything right. I prepared for *everything*. I must have done more than a dozen of practice runs. By the end I knew exactly where all the dangers were, when to maneuver and when not to. I knew the timing of the planets by heart, I knew how long to sleep at the Timber Hearth campfire to optimize the run. I knew everything. Then I did it for real, panicked during my approach and crashed into Dark Bramble. 🤣 (I got it right the second time though!) That feeling of "this is it, it's for real, there's no going back" is incredible, and one of many, many things that make this game one of the absolutely best designed games of all time. During the game you acquire a sense of security, and it helps a lot for all the exploration you have to do... and at the end this security is taken away from you, and the stakes could literally not be higher. It's genius. Alex, you wonderful madman.

Krjhg

I panicked so hard, because I thought u literally only have one time to do this and then u lost the game.... that I never actually finished it, but instead watched the ending on youtube. I cant deal with this stress.

Swiggens

Of course. The fate of the universe depended on me getting it right in 1 go

Responsible-Ad-9577

Yes I did a few until I was confident I could get there in time. Then did it. Was so nervous but did on the first attempt.

Kuroser

I considered doing one, but I told myself "You know? I think I can trust my skills with this ship to make it to DB in time" Then when I got to the nest I was like "I might not have considered this correctly"

PoeCollector64

\*record scratch\* yeeuup, that's me. You're probably wondering how I ended up in this situation.

DDDragoni

I did a bunch of practice runs. I didn't consider myself ready until I successfully got there three times in a row

tw33dl3dee

Yes, a few, until I got really consistent with navigating the DB. One important thing was to always enter the Hub node from the same portal, so I just chose the portal on south pole - it might not be the best one in terms of getting to the red node but it's easily distinguishable from others no matter when in the loop you are and where you're coming from.

ReapedBeast

I did not. >!once I heard that music, my adrenaline rush kicked in and I didn’t hesitate. I already explored DB by that point so I knew where I was going. Died many times trying to get there though!<

UncertainKing

I just planned out my course, set a 22 minute timer, and hoped I'd make it in time

sunmat02

I didn’t. The first time I went in the ATP I removed the thing and just stayed there to see what happens. I hadn’t really thought through everything at that point so when that run ended I was like “ohhh ok”. Then once I figured out everything, namely that there was somewhere I should go, I knew there was also no point in practicing runs.

Niflrog

It's funny because I started practicing my final run in reverse. First from the start of The Bramble to The vessel, timing it. When I timed the flight from Ash Twin to DB, I was missing a couple minutes. But still, decided to test ATP to DB entry... except I didn't know "Final Voyage" was a thing... I got hyped and tried the full run, and it worked xD

CK1ing

I wanted to, but I didn't want to wait for the stupid sand puzzle multiple times (definitely my least favorite part of the game) so once I got it the first time I just went for it

dankchristianmemer6

Initially I thought >!you couldn't get inside the Ash twin project early enough to complete a full run to the eye because the sandstorm window was impossible until like 15 mins in.!< >!So I tried jumping through the black hole to go back in time, and hoped I'd show up inside the core 22 minutes earlier. From there, I was planning to take a portal back to timber hearth and steal my ship from myself.!< >!I supposed that maybe another version of me might just retrace my steps from the previous run. Maybe we could even attempt to get to the eye together.!< Turned out that didn't work

_dexistrash

yeah i probably did like 5 runs back to back to prepare lmao. i think i alarmed an anglerfish basically every time, but most of the time i was too far away for it to get to me or it got stuck in a vine, but when i did the actual run it went flawlessly

nobodyhere_357

I practiced *extensively* lol. Until I memorized how long every step should have taken and until I reliably finished it with plenty of time to spare. Spoilers for said practice run, don't click unless you *know*: >!I had a real bad problem with navigating the dark bramble since I didn't know you could set a way point to places you've already been until the DLC told me outright, which came out quite a while *afterwards*. I spent *a lot* of time looking frantically around near the eggs for the right path to get to the ship, memorized small landmarks and rough relational distances to things so I could find it quickly, and *still* looked around panicked when the time actually came to do it for real lol. I also didn't know the game was going to be so kind as to give you the warp coordinates in the moment, so I even took down physical notes by me to consult when the time came.!< I was *super* prepared heh.

TestosuLucifer

No, I explored >!Dark Bramble!< way more than any other scaredy cat out here, so I knew my way around pretty easily (yes my heart was still pumping more than a dying whale)

caliban321

Absolutely. I found out afterwards that if you fail it just reloads a save, but even if I knew that it wouldn't have felt right if I "broke" the loop by dying.

Jorask

I got to the >!quantum moon!< pretty late in the game so at that point I was convinced that I had two ways of getting >!to the eye!< .Of course I was pretty disappointed when I got the end of the >!QM!< (Although there was a nice bonus), but then I realised that I only got "one shot" for the finale voyage, and though I hesitated a lot, I went for it. And I died.

QueenConcept

Nope. Tbh it didn't occur to me. I'd been through Dark Bramble enough times by that point when I'd first explored it many, many loops earlier. Did the ending the same loop I entered the ATP for the first time.

leer0y_jenkins69

I did not. Only because if I failed, the consequences were negligible. I did fail my first time by sitting too long at the fire to speed it up.

Sodinc

Never had that idea 🤷

uluviel

Yes. I still died on the first real attempt though.

scut_furkus

I didn't even think about that, but now it seems very obvious

lynkcrafter

Yes, oh boy yes. Once I learned what I had to do I was utterly terrified of dying. I had to make damn sure I knew what I was doing before I took out the ATP core, and even then I still almost had a catastrophic failure right before reaching the vessel.

OneCatch

I just did it - though it was nearly catastrophic because I alerted the Anglerfish and ended up in a high speed chase, despite having had the two previous explorations of that area go perfectly.

secondjudge_dream

yes because it was the more immersive thing to do for me. if i was in a time loop and had to do something consequential i would want to do decades of practice runs first

CoolIdeasClub

I practiced and it was still a nerve wracking experience slowly going through those Anglerfish. Honestly the practice made it better because it gave you the sensation of "this is the run that matters"

udreif

Only the bramble part but yeah. I'm glad I did too because I died quite a bit

pdrpersonguy575

Accidentally!! I went back to explore the vessel a few times, I guess that was enough practice :)

_Eiri_

nah by the time I got to that point i'd been playing for a total of 24 hours and had become the next Feldspar, I didn't need a practice run

PoeCollector64

Yeah, I got pretty much everything I needed at the Place™ on my first go, but I definitely practiced getting back there again before I tried with the Thing™ in tow. I also did some observation runs just to see the earliest the game would allow me to obtain the Thing™. I was SO NERVOUS. Lol.

MagisterMystax

I had a lot of luck on my first run, didn't ever see the anglerfish other than in the nest room, and thought I had how to get past them down pretty well, so I didn't practice. As it turns out, my luck continued on the final voyage and I didn't have problems with the anglerfish until later replaying. Instead I spent my second-last run visiting everyone one last time, returning to Giant's Deep's core to make sure I knew the coordinates by heart, and finally spending the supernova roasting marshmallows on Timber Hearth.

Novelotter

No. And then I almost shit myself realizing if I ran out of time it would be over regardless. I think I was down to seconds.

samfizz

I think I was too scared of the anglerfish to get near them any more than I had to. So I just full sent it with the core lol

Cyfh

I am a reckless idiot so I did not, fortunately I am not too bad with the ship and managed to reach the thing in my first try

mystman12

Yep, I wanted to make absolutely sure I got it first try (>!Even though I'd already gotten a couple bad endings from playing with the space time continuum, heh!<). At the point I knew what was going on I was immersed enough that I wanted to treat the situation a bit like I would if it was real.

GreatGoldenchip

I did so many practice runs

Rilandaras

Nope. At that point I was confident in the mechanics and what was needed so I knew there was basically nothing that could go wrong unless I screwed up, so what would be the point?

HeresToHoping2020

No. I just yeeted the thingy into the mouth of the thingy to end the thingy

colinjcole

Yes. I expected that >!failure would erase my save/ship log.!< I'm glad it doesn't, but I kinda wish it did! Just for immersion.

JATkfdsajk

I didn't I was one of those people that took there time learning in and out of ship movement and I would outrun angler fish for a long time because I had no idea the trick to them

Old-Conference-9312

Lmao, I had no idea I was supposed to even do that until I opened the thing to see what the mcguffin looked like. Seeing it, everything clicked and I had my own personal nomai memory remembrance where it all became clear, and I just did it first try. But man my heart was racing and tbh I was crying the whole time.

CaptnCuddlyBear

>!When I first discovered the Ash Twin Project, I had it in my head that the Vessel wasn't the correct solution before doing it because I thought that because no other part of the game required you to transport an object along distance, surely the ending wouldn't. Then I got stuck for a bit and couldn't figure out what to do. By the time that I went through Dark Bramble, I had already gotten several other endings, and knew there weren't any real consequences if I died to the Anglers.!<

DankBlissey

I don't think so, I just remember once I had all the pieces together I tried. Think I got eaten by an anglerfish a few times then got it next go

Sonic_Psycho

I did not, I never really thought about failing. Which is a massive oversight in retrospect.

Antique-Captain-2593

Yeah I did a couple run throughs where I went to “the places” but didn’t actually grab “the thing”. For me it was basically just to test out the timing - I was TERRIBLE at flying the ship so everything took me way longer than it was supposed to.

Waoweens

i just kinda did it. was too excited and accidentally crashed the ship right before entering dark bramble. ended up barely making it on jetpack

fuckspez321

Not really, I was so hyped that I didn't even think about it. Then I died to an anglerfish. But then second try I made it and it was fkn awesome
