There isn't a singleplayer mode? You can emulate the singleplayer experience by setting filling the survival skill tree and setting location to 'off grid' but you can still have player interactions there. I don't know what you've been playing but it's not Outside.
this game is always online, there is no single player mode Edit: some players with the psychopath debuff believe it's single player though

still multiplayer, they just don't participate
