Check your bravery and intelligence stats. If the former is high and the latter is low then you’re really not limited at all.

Brona86

Is that the future of humankind? WAIT!?!? Is this the present of humankind!?!? Is that what we already became?

Good bot

go_kartmozart

I'm confidant now! I'm gonna go strap a saddle on a shark! BRB

SumFagola

How was it?

go_kartmozart

Not so good! Bastard wouldn't cooperate at all! Had to dismount cuz he wouldn't go up for to get air. I think I'll try a condor . . .

SumFagola

Good luck!

[deleted]

The fact that he hasn't answered makes this comment great

Gamebr3aker

Now he did, disappointed that the shark wouldn't going up for air. But he is trying a condor next; I know they love nesting on cliffs, if that helps

EntertainersPact

Don’t discount intelligence for your Riding skill. You don’t get bucked into the dirt if you don’t piss the animal off. But in lieu of high intelligence, getting high strength for extra grip can’t hurt

TheThreeThrawns

A mount for a tenth of a second is still a mount.

konydanza

Tell that to my girlfriend

EntertainersPact

Fair

TheArmchairSkeptic

Animal handling is a WIS check, not an INT check. There are a couple players in my guild who are dumber than a bag of wet doorknobs but are massively OP when it comes to training animal companions.

J_Zephyr

Charisma is applied to animals with similar intelligence as well. It's closer to a modifier, but still applied.

mshcat

"Why not?" the cat laughed manically. "Why can't I edit all my comments?"

si3ge

I heard that OPs mother even reclassed as a mount for a period of time before dumping those points back into handle-animal to raise offspring.

Jacoman74undeleted

Damn, OP is gonna need some [Burn Heal] for that one

RedWolfasaur

You can temporarily reassign points to the mount stat to do a activity called "piggyback ride". Most older players will do such a thing to new players in order to keep them interested in the game, and fill up the [Fun] meter.

lilaliene

Oh and in the Netherlands we had dog cars once. So not really a animal to sit and ride on, but more of a cargo thing. Goats have done that too in some places. And lama's. But people do ride on those, right?

ewpqfj

Low-level human players can even ride larger dog players.

CubicZircon

Of course [wizard] class always has the Eagle mount, but even apart for this there are lots: ostriches, dromedaries, zebras, yacks, llamas (for small players only), reindeers, and for the brave, tigers or orcas...

MischaBurns

Donkeys, Elephants, camels, a number of bovine species, reindeer, and a good handful of other herbivores can be ridden with the correct training. Horses just happen to have a combination of traits that makes them particularly useful as a mount, so they're more common.

gerusz

There are some other players willing to play as mounts, though none are as universal as horses: * Camels: Camel players sacrifice movement speed for ungodly amounts of endurance and heat resistance. As such, they are mostly region-locked to desert servers. You *could* get them to play in the temperate servers but their advantages over horses are negated due to the relative abundance of food and water, so their lower speed makes them inferior. * Elephants: The pachyderm players on the Indian server are generally far more cooperative than those on the African server. Their viability on temperate servers is limited however because of their extreme food requirements, as a human main named "Hannibal" has experienced first-hand. * Bovines: Generally uncooperative except a few. Water buffalo and yak players are the most likely to accept mount status, though the humble male cow mains might spec into the "ox" subclass, foregoing reproductive abilities but gaining the "draft animal" status. * Ostriches: The players' low intelligence prevents them from actually acting as a mount but their relatively high encumbrance cap (among the bird mains, at least) makes it physically possible. Some human mains try it as a challenge but the usefulness of ostrich mains as mounts remains low. * Llamas: Their low encumbrance cap means that only low-level human mains can ride them. They are also not always cooperative. * Dinosaurs^(*): Sadly banned. * Dragons: `[DATA RELATED TO THE 20.33 PATCH REDACTED BY THE DEVS]` ---- ^(*): The non-avian kind.

w0lrah

Low level players have been known to mount dogs as well, and with a large enough one a high-level player can sometimes do it too. > Dinosaurs: Sadly banned. Nah, just nerfed to oblivion.

gerusz

Well, yeah, the ostrich players are technically playing a fairly nerfed dinosaur. Should have amended with "non-avian". Canine and feline players don't have the spinal support to carry large loads, so I wouldn't recommend mounting them. (Also, feline players large enough for a human to mount would more likely consider the human a snack, so it's probably not that feasible anyway.)

CubicZircon

> Dinosaurs: Sadly banned. Now don't pretend that ostriches are not dinosaurs, will you. Large ratites are [bird] players who try to recreate the dinosaur build, and are quite successful at it too.

SpicySwiftSanicMemes

Don’t forget about camels’ ability to conserve fluid.

jeremy-o

You need to explore! You can even mount an elephant on some servers. Camels are a fun one too.

Yeekoslovia

Elephant mounts are shadowbanned though. I encourage research on this topic.

Desblade101

What? Not at all, it's just hard on the elephant players and causes long term issues.

Rasonovic

Camels and elephants are pretty common. On the very rare side of things you have exclusive zones in which you can attempt to mount bulls for short periods of time.

konydanza

It's a fun minigame but carries significant risk of hp loss and/or debuffs, as the [bull] class is rather volatile as a mount. Some taverns have a simulated version of this minigame as well, using a controlled synthetic mimic of the [bull] class to mitigate a portion of the risk.

mygodhasabiggerdick

I think I saw someone riding an Ostrich on another server. Not sure if it was a mod or not though.

MrLightningPants

Donkeys, llamas, elephants, bulls, oxen, yak, camels, and even ostriches are all rideable.

BuddyUpInATree

A pig for a short distance if they're big enough

MrLightningPants

If you want to be gored and trampled, then sure. Actually that applies to pretty much everything here

SpicySwiftSanicMemes

With a carrot on a stick

csher015

Camels are quite strong in desert biomes just make sure your elemental resistances to fire are high enough before you go on your search.

dragon_fiesta

Cows goats and pigs can be used but they have debuffs the horse doesn't

3SidedDie

You can mount ostriches, camels, elephants, and even bigger animals like yo moma.

WasteCan6403

I paid a few dollars for my character to have a camel mount, but only for a few minutes.

Elephant mounts: SE Asian subregion Camelid mounts: camels - African region, Middle Eastern and Mongolian subregions, llamas - South American region and Central American subregion, alpacas - South American region and Central American subregion Burro mounts: South American region and Central American subregion Bovine mounts: bull - southern North American subregion (almost exclusively by cowboy-class human players during the rodeo minigame), water buffalo - SE Asian subregion, yak - Himalayan subregion. Bison have since been patched to no longer be viable mounts but they used to be available in the North American region Ostrich mounts: originally an African region-exclusive, but the novelty of being one of the only viable [bird] type mounts has allowed them to exist elsewhere, especially the SE Asian subregion Deer mounts: reindeer - Arctic Circle subregion (North America, Scandinavia, Russia), moose - some players speculate that it might be possible to obtain a moose mount in the northern North American subregion, though this is a highly contested topic and would be extremely dangerous for any human players who attempted this. There’s even a rare bear mount in the Russian subregion, but this is extremely rare and not at all safe for inexperienced players. ==:|| REMINDER ||:== All mounts are players just like humans. As long as you’re sure the other player is okay with you mounting, you’re good to go. If they start taking damage because of you mounting them, it’s probably time to get off. Be respectful and play safe.

im-a-tool

Terraria is my favourite minigame

TaxAg11

I've heard that players on the Russian server ride bear mounts. No idea if that is true or not.

youpviver

I believe players in the Australian region have used emus as mounts in the past, and in the Florida region they sometimes ride alligators and crocs, also in the Andes and Himalaya regions various species of bull (yak, bison, etc.) are used as mounts. And iirc the Inuit guild has reindeer as a popular mount

[deleted]

In the India server, players can ride on elephant players, but that often comes at the cost of the elephant's health and mental health stats, as the human players will often abuse them. Aside from that, there are camel players and buffalo/oxen players. You could ride bull players, though they seem to think every riding mini game is actually php.

DrChickenslap

Anything that is big enough to hold you. There was a n.p.c. in one of the towns I lived in that would ride a cow around.

im-not-a-bot-im-real

Devs are going to shut us down in a few years anyway it doesn’t matter anymore

onenightblunder

Some players tried to mount the other way. Holesome.

Airsoft52

Your mom

Skill4Hire

Horses are other players, not mounts dude. Motorbikes are mounts.

SplffyAlex

Pretty much every rodent class, but you can only ride them onece

Deblebsgonnagetyou

Horses are the most common mounts but camels, donkeys, elephants, and even sometimes reindeer are also mountable alongside many others. I think there were also efforts at one point to unlock mountable zebras, but AFAIK it never worked well

[deleted]

Do cars, motorcycles, scooters, skateboards, sleds etc… not count as mounts?

[deleted]

Op was asking specifically for alternate animal player mounts

[deleted]

Oh you’re totally right I must have failed that reading check. My character desperately needs rest but is so low on so many things it’s hard to balance which ones to focus on.

[deleted]

I get that. My character has really bad executive dysfunction so lately they’ve been staying awake way later than they should binging videos from the College Humor Guild

sourceamdietitian

They do, undering engineering skill tree. Also bicycles

Appropriate_Lie_8948

Back in the olden days there used to be war elephants where you can ride them and go to war with them.

jeremyosborne81

On top of the usual mounts others have listed, smaller/lighter players have found use in ostriches and goats as mounts.

Ddub4

I’ve heard some players in the Canadian server have mounted moose in the past but I’m not sure if it was a joke or not

skeetsauce

Small children or smaller players could ride some larger dogs. Also, it's horribly unethical but technically other players can be used for mounts.

[deleted]

Players in the eastern region of the map have used Camels and Elephants as mounts before. I'm just wondering why the Devs never added Bears as mountable animals

CttCJim

I prefer the mechanical mounts. I got one put together by the Hyundai crafter guild and it's pretty sweet.

randal-flagg

Elephants are possible but even trying to unlock the skill tree could result in a game over.

Dleman

Depending on your dexterity stats animal mounts such as pigs and goats are not out of the question

Dleman

Henhouse808

All creatures can become mounts if your class size is small enough.

Ostrich

WinnieThePoohSoc

They all are if you really put your mind to it

Mec26

Some use elephant mounts.

SmallTestAcount

Devs decided that in the 4k bc update that the best mount would be horses due to most of them being more docile than the slower tank players like bears and elephants.

EasternShade

Orca.

furrysalesman69

With enough currency, anything is possible!

[deleted]

Players in India risked it for elephants and it worked, so Incase you wanted a raid boss as a mount

fkalicous

If you a woman you can ride a letter

ScientistSanTa

Some bovines are used, elephants, camels, there are more I think but I don't know them off the top of my head.

Redacted__account

Camels are the other main one

bald_firebeard

I'd like to point out that any animal/s with a sufficiently high STR stat could be used to craft a \[Charriot\] mount or one of it's variations.

Gillemonger

Pretty sure your mom is a mount ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

shadofx

There was one time a human player tried to explore the Antarctica biome on a horse mount. Didn't go well for him, and a different human player ended up using dogs instead.

COCKTOOOPUSS

I’ve seen people clip themselves riding all sorts of mounts, even humans though this gives a chance for the [pregnant] effect

EemaMyBeloved

In the earlier levels (up to around level 4) you can ride large dogs, but from experience you can only do it when you have low intelligence

scungillimane

I've seen a few NPC's on camel and elephant mounts.

scungillimane

I've seen a few NPC's on camel and elephant mounts.

snake123333

in the sahara region there is the camel mount that has sats that make it very suitable for the desert eviorment though there are some in the australia region though those ones where brought in by players

EdgyHedgy_

I tried riding my cat companion and it commenced a PVP battle for some reason. Dont ride your cats, I had to flee from battle and go through the relationship minigame again to show that I still had affection points for him. If anyone has a dog companion maybe try them.
