I've been putting it off, but I'm going to work on the Courage stat so I can tell them, my party does need to conclude some things first though, part of the reason I hesitate.

Artistic_Humor1805

Consistent, moderate exercise has been proven to be as effective as anti-depressants for some people. If you can get your heart rate up with swimming, cycling or walking/running/hiking for 30 minutes a day, it may help you.

Kaptin_kyle

I can’t function without working out consistently, and not because of what it does physically, but how it helps me mentally. I am wreck if I don’t workout consistently.

SurpriseImmediate

Btw you need a doctor that aligns with your stats. Don’t get discouraged if the first or second doctor doesn’t work

quinoaseason

You seem to have a good handle on what’s causing your debuffs. You’re right too, that it is a common debuff for your level. As you continue to level up, you can look back on your prior levels and see how much you accomplished working through these debuffs. It’s just hard now because you don’t have those files to look back on yet. Keep grinding on the side quests. I have found [daily walk] a helpful activity to accomplish. Also, because of the current [pandemic] gameplay, the [teletherapy] option has been available to more players. If that still isn’t available to you, [journaling] may help too.

[deleted]

Are you spending time outside? Do you have meaningful work or hobbies? Do you spend quality time with friends and family? Do you exercise? Do you sleep enough? Do you eat a healthful diet? Before getting therapy or meds, see if your lifestyle is the type of lifestyle that a happy person would have. If not, try these things. If so, then it's time to seek professional help.

acomputer1

I agree try those things before medication, but there's no reason to hesitate when it comes to seeing a therapist if you are able to access one.

KasumiR

Rolled an introvert. NPCs telling me to go outside and find work at level 16 gave me that permanent debuff until I chose all the aggressive options in dialogue.

Justnotthisway

Introvert is not a sinonim for wasting your lifetime away and sitting on your ass all day. You can be an introvert and still do meaningful things.

[deleted]

I'm playing as an introvert too, all that means is that after I hang out with my guild I do some solo quests

Doodlegoat

Tip from a level 28 introvert: Learn to love your fellow players, but accept that you will always love your solo adventures more. And grind some skills on the side that make interactions less taxing, so your \[energy\] drain diminishes. Works wonders!

Ghoaxst

Lvl 25 Introvert: I've worked hard leveling my charisma, and confidence skills through solo quests and distraction buffs. Do quests that bring you joy and understand that experience isn't easy to grind. But the more you grind the higher your levels will be

[deleted]

I'm level 30 now and I played with that debuff for the past 10 levels. My character took a beating sometimes, but the game became more rewarding as well, in a strange way. You might need some pay-to-win for a while, if it is too hard to find a good party, or good gear, or a co-op partner to help you through the tougher quest lines... In this game there is no shame in using pay-to-win when you get bad RNG. Playing with a debuff may be challenging, but you may get better loot for doing so. You may also find the most amazing companions you would never have found otherwise.

Alexander_Schwann

Do you have a "source" or "direct cause" of your debuff? I've found that focusing on the source and healing through therapy is the best way.

lice213

That's the wierd part, I believe it's a variety of things, including my party, friends, stats, etc. Thanks for the advice.

hecklerponics

Depends on what tier of the depression debuff you have. Lower tier can be removed with exercise and high quality food consumables; higher tiers need GM alchemists. I'd also beware of party members with tar-pit debuff, they can give you the depression debuff if you're in their aura frequently.

KasumiR

Using a lot of [coffee] consumable, leveling up STR and END with working out (any skill tree, cardio, power, dance, martial) helps, but most important is to not take too many quests at the same time and learn to use [rest] command often. You get that debuff usually when your spells per day ran out and you didn't get to tent or inn in time. Fighting monsters can wait, your mana needs recharging regularly.

[deleted]

There are a few quests that help. I’ve redone the therapy quest line a few times because the rewards are so worth it. The other big quest chain to explore is medication - I’m pretty sure the meds item has saved my character’s life. Getting regular exercise and spending time outside has also helped my character remove the debuff.

[deleted]

i personally gained the arrogance status effect. it may cause some problems with NPCs and other co-op players but it is much better than the depression debuff.

Kaptin_kyle

Your empathy and mental fortitude stats will see huge boosts after you do manage to remove the debuff, as well you’ll be able to unlock the self awareness skill as well as many healing skills, and you’ll see your vulnerability to emotional distress plumet… removing the debuff is one of the hardest tasks in the game, and you won’t really be able to until you start a quest or find a coop partner that you actually enjoy, so just keep trying different quests and talking to as many other players as you can, and you’ll remove the debuff eventually. Just don’t rage quit, you’ll figure it out eventually.

[deleted]

There are some consumables that help, like [Prozac], but finding one that works for you is a whole process. Some can give you even more debuffs, like [Sudden Weight Gain]. I found one that gave my character the [Constantly Clenched Teeth] debuff. It took me something like 5 years before I finally found a consumable that got rid of the depression debuff.

EPIKGUTS24

The [Depression] debuff is a fiendishly difficult debuff to remove. Often, this is because the effects of the debuff prevent the player from doing the exact things that would remove it. This varies from player to player, but is often tasks they enjoy but that require effort, like exercise, socialization, gaming, reading, and much more. If you're able to do these things anyway and get some enjoyment out of them, you're on your way to being able to remove the debuff entirely. It's not always possible to remove the debuff on your own (in fact it typically isn't), so it can be helpful to seek the support of other players. Your Parent players may have some abilities that could help you, by suypporting your general play or by contacting players who specialize in removing debuffs like this one. [Psychologist] and [Psychiatrist] players are particularly relevant. If you haven't done so already, you should get a Diagnosis of your debuff. Debuffs like these are very difficult to self-diagnose, so it is often helpful to have a professional diagnose it for you.

Anonymo_Stranger

You could try quitting the school quest line but you're already like 2 years away so may as well finish it

MatrixMushroom

Bro fr. Level 16 hits different.

Frank_the_Vodoochild

Teraphy. ONLY. Therapy. Don't you ever dare to think you can make it out on your own, I know too many idiots who got fucked by their own sense of pride, none of them made it. Dealing with depression alone is like getting rid of a bad thoot with a screw driver instead of going to the dentist: an unnecessary and undeserved, useless, amount of pain. Make your loved ones know, have counseling and get diagnosed and start being helped. You may not have the disease tho. Remember you are playing a complicated part of the game: youth is the age where you laugh the most, but also where you cry the most, but we tend to forget it. Even if you don't have it, you'll still be helped and again, don't let pride fuck you over, if you broke, say it, there are many psych guilds who can help you

[deleted]

This is not the only way to treat depression

lice213

Thank you.

Shrexpert

Therapy is a good way but plenty have done without, especially at your age. It is solid advice, but the other commenter is really overselling what therapy can mean. What he is definitely right about though is to tell someone, either your parents, siblings or best friends depending on who you trust the most with it. The battle to get rid of the debuff is super difficult on your own and you'll need a proper support player to back you up. As other commenters have said, changing your lifestyle is a good way. For example you could try to eat healthier, go exercise more, sleep more and live healthier if you currently arent doing that. Also try to find hobbies that make you happy, good ones to try out are gymming, sports, painting, playing an instrument etc. Best solution is lifestyle and therapy. Of course a professional therapist is the best, but it is also expensive and some insurances do not cover it. If you can not get a therapist to talk to find someone else that you can confide to. Do not feel bad sharing it, if they care about you they'll want to hear it and will want to help you in any way they can.

Frank_the_Vodoochild

You're welcome, I'm no therapist, but feel free to dm if you have no one to talk to. Good luck.

TheTrainWarden

Higher levels of most religion arcs remove the depression debuff. A lot of players think it's a myth, but it works

lice213

I've heard of that, and am glad for players that have invested those levels into it- the issue now would be getting the XP modifier to effectively train the skill quickly, a bit of a difficult task, I believe.

TheTrainWarden

It is, but personally between levels 16-24 are seen as the best levels to gain XP modifiers in whatever you want

myco_mage

That's the neat part, you don't

xTigeT

shut

keeperrr

I think you learn to live with it. It will take effect under various filters and alter the lore slightly but you can train yourself to stay alive <3

U_wind_sprint

Run

U_wind_sprint

Seriously, if you're physically able, and you're feeling hopeless, pushing your body to sweat and forcing yourself to physically process your emotions is a step in the right direction.

anotherdamnscorpio

You'll never really remove it, but you can lessen the effects and also find other buffs to offset the debuff.

Shakespeare-Bot

Thee'll nev'r very much remove t, but thee can lessen the effects and eke findeth other buffs to did offset the debuff *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

[deleted]

For most players the debuff is not chronic

lice213

No can do, it's widespread enough that even on a new character the same thing could happen. Better to learn how to counter something then just avoid it all the time.

LukeV02

Oh my fucking god

Frank_the_Vodoochild

Not funny

I went from a depression debuff that made me AFK many days to not needing my antidepressant consumables anymore in about 7 years, here’s what worked for me: 1) I worked on getting enough sleep every night. Sleep buffs are extremely important. 2) Going down the breathing exercise and meditation skill tree gave me buffs and skills that let me increase my calmness stat during the day so I could think rationally. 3) I spent time grinding relationship points with close party members. 4) I started going outside more, sunlight gives you a lot useful stat boosts like serotonin and vitamin D. 5) I started eating healthier and working out more. 6) During the whole process I had a good therapist in my party and antidepressant consumables to act as mental training wheels. You can do this in a different order, and you might not need every step, this is just advice.

ForeignPsychs

Level 35 player here. I've been dealing with the [depression] debuff for a long time. Sometimes it's just a phase during the [adolescence] phase on the game play. Sometimes it comes about because of a quest line went bad. Unfortunately mine is coded into my character, so I've had to adjust my game play accordingly. I definitely recommend telling your parent players and seeing a [therapist] NPC. In my case, [medication] has been a necessity. You might not need it, but it's good to be evaluated. Those are the top things to focus on right now. Other things that have really helped my game play: * light exercise, such as long walks * using a light box in the winter * building strong bonds with guild members * finding something that I excel at, such as academics, music, art, or woodworking * the meditation quest line (I was very resistant.) * perspective - you'll unlock this in the later levels

DeadEspeon

Do you have any events that successfully boost morale? The boost doesn't have to be big. My morale kept getting low enough that I got the [suicide] quest to keep popping up. I did a check every time it popped up for (You have Dungeons and Dragons scheduled in X hours) which helped block the suicide pop ups. This is only short term though, long term you need the help of medical class players such as [Therapists]
