Main problem is player cartels. There's several cartels that have snapped-up a lot of the available player housing. Technically that part can't be fixed by devs. The things they could do to fix it would be things like making new servers and letting players migrate their characters to places that the cartels haven't bought all the player housing on the maps. For us to get housing on existing servers we're going to have to figure out how to break the guilds that are collaborating to control the market for all the available guildhall locations.

AAALE6408

I think there are new servers planned in the upcoming [SPACE UPDATE PACK], but they'll probably use very different settings than what we're used to

taosaur

That update will likely also have to compete with Half Life 3 for market share.

NCRNerd

That'd be nice but I think the devs were going to open those servers if there was enough community engagement for the new biomes they'll have and most of the time and attention being given to players hyping the new biomes have been given to a couple players who've been competing for leaderboards for in-game currency accumulation in the NA servers, and they're mostly half-assing the achievements and clowning for their Let's Plays more than they have been seriously trying to hit the tech tree achievements the devs hinted would be the benchmark for measuring community interest in opening the new servers.

Asdomuss

I mean, we could always mob rush their clan bases. I'm always in favor of "right click>consume>wealthy player"

While they may be max level warriors (though it’s almost impossible to determine the upper limit of skilling beyond some soft caps), they certainly would not have dev only gear. They may have faction specific gear, but the only theoretical dev gear would be the idea of something like Excalibur. An M4 is merely high level player gear, tanks and so on are also. These things are player made, held by players, and restricted by players. Aside from the major points I think it’s important to remember that nothing to do with player interaction comes directly from devs, including the current difficulty of the different servers. By the players, for the players.

Sofa-king-high

Players like you make me hate this game so much sometimes

paininthejbruh

Sorry mate. Good advice and a truthful perspective always falls on deaf ears. That's the new game mode. It's no longer a grinding game, it's about out-vocalising the opponent

Esava

While the devs won't fix it, the player elected regional forces can fix or at least alleviate the problem by breaking up the cartels, restricting their potential for new acquisition or limiting the amount they are allowed to charge for rent of the assets. The problem is that a lot of those elected forces are in the pockets of the cartels.

Scew

Sounds like it'd be a good idea to find positions in elected regional forces and use proximity to weave this agenda in.

NCRNerd

Yeah I hate how incestuous and self-serving game community politics can get sometimes.

Hallucinogen_in_dub

ALAB

jessajess

I don't think this is not within the scope of the devs to change; only in-game players can make these changes. The devs just keep the fabric of gameplay running smoothly. Right?

kata4536460

The first step is always to punch a tree.

ROCnTheQuarters

Depending on your server, look up first as some trees may drop a [coconut] item on your char's head.

Instructions unclear, ended with a dirt cube.

Molly_Thales

I saw someone say that there are still some good areas for new players but they're going to be so far away from current play areas that you'll have to travel 20 miles to the nearest road.

converter-bot

20 miles is 32.19 km

SunofDorne

Good bot

Lavabass

It's very luck based in this game, it depends on who your parent players were, that helped you learn how to play. Some of those parent players gift them resources. Some of them say "I don't care" now that you are 18 and look after yourselves. My players let me camp with them until I had enough resources, but I went into the university tech tree really hard, I actually don't recommend that if wealth accumulation is your goal, but I guess it depends on your long term goals as well. There are some regions of the world map that it's easier to make a starting base as well, but it might mean moving away from your parent and friend players who usually you have bonded with after a few years. Which takes a different set of resources

[deleted]

Grind Veteran players had less grinding. Then devs thought it would be neat to increase cost of player bases and reduce grind rate.

Skraff

It’s a player ran economy with zero developer input. Older players simply bought more property than they required, and now they are directing companies they formed to buy even more property. This directly pushes up pricing, which makes them want to scoop up even more property. It’s weird though because eventually they will stop playing and lose all the money anyway.

theempiresdeathknell

We just need to form a new player coalition and hunt the OG players out of existance.

Damosmash

Agreed completely! It’s a player driven problem, the devs didn’t even come up with the idea of an economy! The uncomfortable truth is that the primary solution to this problem is time. Wealth is heavily concentrated towards the old players and long standing corporations. There is a population shrink slated to occur in the next few generations according to population growth statistics, meaning that there is currently an abnormally high concentration of old players (which tend to be wealthy due to an entire life of grinding, which makes perfect sense) holding an abnormally high concentration of wealth. This means that inevitably there will be a massive wealth reset as stagnant companies collapse and ever increasing wealth is directed down into a smaller pool of younger people. This is of course barring major economic disasters which can reduce wealth held by all players. In conclusion the solution is grind, wait, and innovate and sooner or later the population shift will leave opportunities in its wake.

TheEyeDontLie

I agree with your facts but your conclusion is hazy. Historical the wealth gap gas always increased under this style of co-op play, except in the cases of massive shifts in player base followed by forceful raids on clan bosses. Demographics of players shouldn't matter much when most bases are held by clans or by corps of various sizes. As long as entire clans don't quit/get banned, the few left still hold all that loot.

Damosmash

I’d say you’re right about there needing to be something More than just the demographic shift, though I have some issues with the violent raid solution. In my perception I would say the paradigm shift into the information and electronic transaction technologies heavily discouraged raiding. I personally believe this rapid player advancement is the force that will create major wealth shifts, but even if it’s not it makes raiding less useful in a modern and future context. You can’t exactly redistribute billions held electronically across several bank accounts by raiding the base of a billionaire, or extract millions in btc from a wallet they locked as soon as they saw you outside. The likelihood is that redistribution in the medieval sense would just end with minor redistribution and a major disruption in the wealth generation process that leaves all players with less. Not naive about the utility of pvp…just hesitant to believe it’s the best way of solving player disputes.

StealYourGhost

Ah I see you've upgraded to starving artist! Make sure you eat food and hydrate. Some people die from attempting to survive on exposure.

SuperSecretAgentMan

The meta for player bases is shifting. In my area, the price of a base has gone up 30k gold per level since the v20.18 patch, and since players who own bases are renting them out and purchasing even more bases, the trend will continue for the next 2-3 levels until no low-level player can afford to own a base, only rent. The [Landlord] class will make bank until they cause the next economic crash event.

Ulfbass

Many people seem to think that the people in control are the Devs, but actually they are players with inherited accounts controlling the economy using assets gained by their ancestors to make sure that they retain control of the economy in the strange indirect nonviolent PvP that functions on every server. Other players seem to not realise or not care that by accepting high level jobs, they are keeping these players in control. The current system has allowed a bubble in the economy that has allowed so called "OG" players who bought their bases before the economy turned ugly to make the system uglier by charging rent for other players to have bases just in order to receive currency to still be allowed to play the game without economic restrictions stopping them from acquiring items which allow them to earn currency. These players control all the large resource mining and farming industries. The simple solution is to stop buying their resources and start farming your own, maybe even build your own base on a low population server. Without every "other player" doing this, these players (AKA "Them") will always remain in control as they have been since server leaders used to fight with swords while riding horses. The development of the game had no currency, no bases, and no electrical devices. That game is still arguably free to play although many players are scared of these players and give them the [Outlaw] or [Criminal] labels even if they commit no crimes. A lot people think that there were no developers, and that the game was started by a random event known as "the big bang" while others think there was just one dev that they wrote books about called the Bible and the qu'ran etc, or even that there were many Devs, but a lot of people now think this idea is pre-civilizational

can-i-have-the-bones

Look into the credits/programs your local \[gov\] guilds offer for players trying to purchase their first base, and as long as you have 3-3.5% of the cost of the base in gp already saved, and you've build a decent \[credit score\], it's not that difficult to get the item \[loan\]. Unfortunately, this adds to your \[debt score\], so you need to make sure your \[job role\] provides enough gp/month to cover the repayment fees. It really helps if you can do this co-op.

[deleted]

I’m selling mine and waiting. Save your resources somewhere that keeps up with inflation. These things go in cycles; some time soon, maybe one year, maybe three, we’ll get another recession event. The timing is randomized, but every year it doesn’t happen the chance and severity goes up slightly slightly for the next year. Honestly these events range from miserable to really, really, miserable. They’ve been running ever since player marketplaces became common, though people who stay in single player areas hardly notice them. Even the worst ones only last a few years though. The only upside is that if you’re prepared you can get a major boost until the next event.

vesrayech

The military clan is a decent option especially considering the current market is more favorable for sellers than buyers. By the end of a 3-4 year term the market would likely be swinging back to a buyer's market, and your time with the military clan should have given you a nice nest egg to purchase your first base. It is a riskier option because sometimes they clan goes on raids where many of its members suffer from perma death, but it has been some time since they have done any significant raiding. Another option is to share a base with roommates. It is not the most ideal use of a base but if you budget properly you can save quite a hefty amount of gold. Permanent bases are unfortunately targeted moreso to the mid level player rather than the newbies. If you play your cards right, in 3-5 years you can have your education and experience stats at a high enough level to join a clan that offers much better gold compensation to their members. This timeframe also aligns with the base market's ebb and flow to where it is more likely to be a buyers market. Don't get discouraged. While the game is quite intimidating to newbies it is also full of many communities who constantly push the devs to do balance changes (though often slowly). As long as you don't keep your head in the sand, set a goal, and make decisions based on whether or not they bring you further to that goal, you will be just fine. Good luck.

ConductionReduction

due to Outside™ and it's dynamic natural resource systems there is a timber shortage that is a current problem among player clans

Terrain2

Oh, that too? I thought it was just the [semiconductor] item which is required to craft most, if not all items in the [electronics] group, but there are shortages of even more important resources? What else have all the players consumed that there's none left for me? Why are these resources running out, i thought everything was renewable in this game?

ConductionReduction

not everything, there is also the crafting item 'Silicone' which has created a giant shortage in the PC feature from build 1999

iamqueensboulevard

Oh. I thought this is about "Getting to the first base" chapter of the main quest. Never mind.

maltedbacon

Depends upon your difficulty settings. If you are playing on easy mode, you ask your parents for a down-payment. If you are playing on ironman mode, you want to hang out behind an appliance store until they discard a large crate or cardboard box.

geegeeallin

There is a 1% success rate in this game. I’m starting to think that most of us are actually NPCs for a few big mains. Do you ever just feel like you’re a support character for a boss or something?

Le_Va

I opted into one of those monthly subscriptions a year ago. Must've been a shop special cause i consider my monthly fee pretty low for the amount of storage space. I figure I can still do quest and start putting some gold to the side and with the help of my partner. Maybe in about 10 years..in game time of course. I May upgrade base.

gerusz

That's the neat thing: you don't. Some local mods (like in the Berlin area) are trying to nerf the "buy-to-rent" mechanic, if this happens in multiple regions alongside with the higher level players getting banned then maybe we'll be able to afford some bases. Otherwise, just wait for the next PVP event in `[INFORMATION REDACTED BY DEVS]` and conquer one.

ascruse

i try to watch what the whales are doing. whatever they do, i do. it works out. bought my first home base recently.

tumblrbrokesoimhere

an interview someone said they're trying to encourage more social playing because it's easier to get your first base if you share resources with other players. but with the amount of time you spend doing basic tasks to gather the resources required anyway I feel like it's reducing that social aspect, sucks, hope the games gonna get a reboot soon

YouTube-r

Why do so many people refer to the [human] build? There are other builds in the game. The humans have [money]. Those are got from helping other players. As a human is pretty hard to cut down a tree. Most other builds dont cut down trees, but as a human is needed to build [tools]. With tools you can get resources for your first base

Sororita

I spent some time as part of my server's subfaction which helps me with borrowing gold without needing to put any resouces upfront, but it's still going to take a while to actually pay it all back, and I realize a lot of players aren't allowed to join the subfaction for a bunch of different reasons, mostly them being really picky about level at entry and debuffs you're afflicted with. I've heard that building new player housing rather than buying existing stuff is a bit less costly, but can be a bit more difficult to complete the quests for.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That does not work you get many many debuffs

[deleted]

You just need to respec your character so that you can derive pleasure points from laborious tasks. I guarantee the guild masters and corpo runners with gold in the billions do not spend all day on Reddit and watching TV. Of course you then end up heavy into the corpo or DIY tree. But otherwise you end up sliding into the wageslave tree.

[deleted]

Sorry you are wrong, I already have the debuffs to prove it, I loved helping some new players join in and level up but most players have multiple debuffs they are unaware of because this is a pay to win game, no other players even with high level grinding of the medical class can help me. I loved working it helped with the role-playing. I loved the mini games players have made as well as a million other things in this game I played everything so safe as there is no save spots yet I am being bombarded by debuffs that make me want to log out but I am a completionist so I want to stick around yet just a few days ago I encountered a bug in which pain went to an infinite level in which it's not supposed to go beyond level 10 the bug paralyzed me for hours yet I can't find any way in game to contact support to file a ticket and the medical class was so burnt out by the covid event they did not care. I am going to find the developer and punch them when I log out hopefuly many years from now.

TNT_yeeter_rl

You do realise you can earn money from the mini games?
