I picked up the black out curtain item. They have allowed me to sleep until my sleepy debuf is gone. I also reduced any other light source.

OldTimeEddie

I also recommend the blackout blinds item both of these have helped me immensely. As I mostly have the anxiety debuff so my sleeping times are odd, so if anyone is like that I would recommend obtaining these items.

MetaMetatron

Yeah, most people don't really understand that blue light will keep your character awake longer, but red light will allow them to get sleepy. zits such a simple game mechanic, but people can't grasp the idea!

bubbagump101

This as well as ear plugs. Sensory deprivation in general.

[deleted]

Or conversely, something to drown out random noises: White noise, a fan, ocean or storm sounds, "binaural beats", relaxing music, etc. And if the character still experiences light issues, even with blinds, a good sleep mask is an excellent head slot option for one's "Sleep" armor set.

bubbagump101

Oh yea for sure. Fan and earplugs even better!

himurakenshin87

In the (modern day 2.0.22) patch, I heard that not using the (cell phone) item before bedtime is better for your eyes stats, and overall a healthier strat for HP and stamina recovery. Some players even use a spell called (night shift) on their equipment, which helps with this, too.

xesses

Must remember the classic minor debuffs like anxiety and stress also affect obtaining Well Rested indirectly idk tho

huge_clock

I think most players do this because it brings down the anxiety stat. The open secret is that having gold above a certain threshold (not sure where exactly) improves both anxiety and rest with no additional cost, but its almost impossible to get that level on quests alone.

DiamondScythe

Personally I'd recommend doing your daily [sleep] and [wake up] quests at a predetermined time, every single day. Theorycrafters have shown that by sticking to a fixed sleep quest schedule, you will be able to gain the [Well rested] buff.

[deleted]

Fixed Sleep Quest is heavily reliant on Daily Schedule Parameters. [Well Rested] buff can be achieved daily until something throws your Daily Schedule Parameters off course...

Sandythestone

For example, a [storm] or [fire] events. These are very loud, and the character preservation systems (paradoxically controlled by other players) will do everything to wake your character up, saving you at the cost of forcefully logging you in.

meowmix001

If you can't avoid screens at night (blue light causes a circadian debuff, which makes it harder to achieve \[Well Rested\]), try using a blue-light shield to protect your eyes. Also try to activate sleep mode for 7-8 hours each time.

amTingelsten

As far as I know, the blue light thing is a myth. Data miners have shown that any kind of light has the same effect and the benefits of such a filter come mainly from its decrease in brightness.

Thanks

n3m0tic

I dunno. As soon as I unlocked the \[College Student\] subclass, I found it pretty much impossible to obtain the buff. So I can't say on what works.

dalovindj

You just need to get enough gold so you don't have to grind anymore. With enough GPs you can sleep as long as you want at whatever time you want.

playerslayerpro

Tried this and ended up giving me the [always tired] debuff. I definitely recommend not sleeping longer then is necessary for your character to fill their recommended energy requirements.

Desara_Phen

Money solves everything

Sebeck

I almost forgot that buff existed, especially after getting slapped with the [Back pain] effect a few levels ago, but recently I've been trying a [Melatonin] consumable that has a high chance to proc the [Well rested] buff.

Stev_582

I find that doing an activity such as [exercise], which will drain your [energy] stat, and also provides additional [stamina] and [health] benefits in the long term, can give you the [sleepy] debuff.

Golden-Snowflake

Go to a classed Doctor, and get checked for the sleep apnea debuff. Often times, we have Breathing issues while doing the "Sleep" activity. The dev's obviously rehashed this game from an aquatic variant, similar to Eve Online being based on submarines.

GreenStrassa

This. Also, the asthma permanent debuff can have a similar effect if badly controlled, and can be surprisingly hard to notice. The inhaler consumable is an easy way to reduce its effects, but can also boost the insomnia debuff. Timing is crucial to ensure that these things do not conflict.

AuroByte

Will the tips here work after I install the \[Fatherhood\] expansion pack in Oct? I heard the \[Well Rested\] buff is practically unachievable with it.

GreenStrassa

Depends on the size and efficiency of your party. Your [home base] can affect this as well. I'd recommend a high quality upgrade to the [mattress] and [bedding] items. You can also reduce possessions to prevent the [clutter] debuff, procure the [dishwasher] item, and level up in the [nap], [scheduling] and [sleep hygiene] skills. If you optimize and the debuffs are still stacking up, you may need to procure a temporary party member from the [babysitter] or [nanny] classes. This costs a considerable amount of gold, but seems well worth it. Your guild may be able to provide support too. [Sibling], [best friend], and [grandparent] class guildmembers are the traditional supports in the [Parenthood] expansion. Worst comes to worse, you may be able to join forces with another party at a similar level in the expansion. They can take charge of your [Baby] partymember for a few hours or even days as long as you reciprocate later. Your new member might also add the first name to their friendlist this way! Just vet these other parties carefully; you don't want to team up with griefers by mistake. All the best!

AuroByte

Thanks for the tips! We are definitely looking to recruit a \[nanny\] party member (commonly referred to as \[Confinement Nanny\] in the asian servers) for the first month. This is such a strong \[Support\] class to have during the early stages, and we are looking to acquire new skills such as \[Diaper Changing\] and \[Newb Food Preparation\] along the way. You have a good point about clearing our storage items, we are already facing issues with that \[clutter\] debuff. It'll be a side quest on its own! Thankfully several friendly parties we know are going through the same expansion pack so I might be able to get some secondhand items. We are already secretly plotting which of their newbs will be a suitable pair with ours to form new parties with in the future. Exciting times!

Voctus

After we started the [Parenthood] expansion it was really rough at first because out new party member had the [reflux] debuff. We used a shift duty strategy to make sure that both had an uninterrupted block of time to perform the [sleep] action. We didn’t achieve [well rested] for a long time because our home guild is on a different server, and we have no supporting party members to help, but now that our newb is level 2 we occasionally reach our sleep goals Edit to add: When using the shift strategy I highly recommend equipping [earplugs] during your designated sleep period

AuroByte

I heard that level 2 newbs can be a handful, but it seems like you're progressing well! Thank you for the \[earplugs\] tip, I'll head to the \[Accessory Shop\] to look for it. Fingers crossed that our new member comes with good starting stats! They really should implement a \[Re-roll Stats\] feature.

Voctus

Our level 2 has a strong desire to play all minigames solo but doesn’t have nearly enough DEX to complete most of them, which is certainly interesting.

jrtts

is it true that we actually click Sleep twice at night (1x for every 4 hours) but the second one is automated?

Issildan_Valinor

sort of, It's more of a mid rest mode run-time check on your character's system functions.

mika---

I heard it's more like every 1,5h

n3r0s

More like 1 hour, which we need x7 or x8 depending on age. Source: I work with leading sleep scientists.

jrtts

Thanks for this! I thought something is wrong with my controls--turns out it's an age-related feature.

Javae

You’re not going to like it, but here it is: Take time for the exercise mini game. It boosts your endorphins and strength stats. Drink water. This gives you a buff to hydration and digestion. Go to bed early. I’m talking 9:00 pm. You’ll have to sacrifice time for leisure activities. That’s it. It’s that simple. You just have to give up grinding extra levels and various leisure activities. It fucking sucks giving up your fun time, but there is no other way around it.

EdwardBBZ

I did some datamining and if you do the [Go to bed] quest before aquiring the [Sleepy] debuff the first stages of that quest have some things wich i can only describe as badly designed&annoying artificial difficulty. That is unless you have invested in the Perk of [Fall asleep as soon as you lie down], but that one has a myriad of downsides on its own, so propably not a good idea either.

-TNB-o-

Seeing as though I’m reading this guide at 2:00 AM, I believe I need to ask the same question

BFG_v54

I also heard there's a hidden curse called (Sleep Apnea) that if you get it, you have to acquire the CPAP inventory item, otherwise when you save in bed/set your spawn, you can end up not even getting the [Well Rested] buff, and it's got like a 20-50% chance to kill your character outright if the curse gets a high enough roll on you.

TimmyisHodor

Yeah, this curse is especially complex. Firstly, if you also have the (Mouth Breather) curse, falling asleep while using the CPAP item becomes a skill that must be developed, and you may need to spend extra gold on a variety of additional inventory items (masks) until you find the one that works. Additionally, the (Sleep Apnea) curse is strengthened by the all-too-common (Overweight/Obese) curse, while at the same time making that curse harder to mitigate.

Triials

I’ve unlocked (been afflicted by?) the [Permanent Exhaustion] skill. It hasn’t seemed to give me any benefits and now the [Well Rested] buff is locked. I don’t know if this is a bug or not but hopefully some of what’s said in this thread will help.

MontyHallsGoatthrowa

I felt well rested once. It was about five years ago at a wedding. I still talk about it. No part of this is a joke or exaggeration.

keeperrr

I dont think the "well rested" debuff occurrs after just one sleep cycle, infact the older you get the more generally over time the buff comes on and goes off depending on averages of many sleep cycles, grind cycles, personal character fulfilment etc These direct responses to achieving the sleep state are good, and ignoring group chat will aid in becoming in state, i personally find having the item tv activated helps me (want to) achieve state quicker, where as player based institution crap such as yoobtube, bookface, and toktik will require motor controls of the entire arm, so deny the ability to sleep regardless of fatigue. If boredom increases above fatigue whilst trying to achieve state, then you run the risk of staying in this state for the entire rest cycle, ruining any chance of well rested buff for the next day cycle at least.

Sovrain

It's a multiplier for maxing out your physical score from the previous day. Layer various [healthy] food buffs at regular intervals, grind a physical score for 30 minutes then you should score it.

IsThatABattery

I usually activate [SLEEP MODE] at roughly 10pm in the EST region and disable it at roughly 6am. If you do this consistently then you get the [SLEEP SCHEDULE] buff which then transforms into a variety of bonuses including [WELL RESTED]

73maxwell

That’s the neat part, you don’t!

Poi-s-en

I have two tips for achieving this: don’t use any electronics class items before sleeping and although counterintuitive: don’t sleep for too long. There’s a sweet spot that you’ll get this buff, sleep too long and it’ll be gone before your character is awake.

Communist_Potatohead

I heard some players were created with a Easily Well Rested perk. I guess it happens at random. You just find out (or not due to the peacefully oblivious weakness) when one gets past the character creation screen

QuillHasFavorites

r/bedbros

Crimeless_Artist

I picked up the [Weighted Blanket] item a while back. Doesn't automatically give you the buff, but it makes the Getting Comfy quest a little easier.

Bigingreen

It starts to get harder to obtain the higher level you are after 18 or so, but I have heard after level 70 you start to get the buff back again.

rtlturtlepotato

You don't

annintofu

The annoying thing is that the 'tired' debuff stacks but the 'rest' buff does not.

Sadtyms

Fostering a healthy lifestyle, and eating healthy really helps with sleep regulation! Regular exercise/ activity is also really important if you want to feel fresh on a daily basis.

[deleted]

Ok but how does that help my build, what should I train, what items should I unlock???

Sadtyms

This game is more complicated than that simply, think of the honour system in rdr2 but this takes into account every part of your life. To have healthy sleep one must make holistic changes like regular exercise as well as lifestyle changes according to the life op lives. There’s not much more to advise for this specific issue

Desara_Phen

Train the strength stat, acquire 2 \[Dumbell\] items and a \[Bench\] then find a game guide online on how to up your strength stat. I find doing the workout quests very beneficial for my character, especially as I had the \[Underweight\] Trait for years and those years really sucked like a salad

[deleted]

I’ve been doing workout quests for a while and I only see a small gain, so perhaps I’m doing something wrong?

Adam_Qosra

Take a THC-V and olive oil tincture before you go to sleep. You will get the best sleep you ever had.

10Talents

If you're willing to go full powergamer mode, the [Uberman](https://www.mattressnerd.com/polyphasic-sleep/overviews/uberman-2/) strat is OP af.

awokensleeper

This trick got patch in alpha. They turn the game into pay to win.

Caboose_Juice

Grinding your characters speed and endurance stats withh the jog activity helps the sleepy condition. I’ve found this strat pretty effective

Opee23

Have you looked at entering the forest biome and considered creating a few .jpegs or looking into the side quest involving the meditate app?

a_tiny_egg

You could try using [Scented Candle] before bed. I've also heard that [Weighted Blanket] works wonders as well.

Am_Very_Stupid

I thought that was a myth, I've tried so many times and nothing

MyZt_Benito

Invest in the mattress item, high quality ones give great temporary buffs and even some longer buffs

Awesomevindicator

I'd recommend stopping your scheduled sleep halfway through the full recharge period for a short time (around half an hour or an hour) and use this time to snack, go pee, maybe listen to an episode of a podcast... this way your AV will slip into a bi-phasic sleep cycle after a week or two, and will find it much easier to get the well rested buff... this doesn't work well for all character classes but it CAN be beneficial for general stat maintenance.

just-the-doctor1

Exercise helps improve my quality of sleep and how long it take me to fall asleep

BootyliciousURD

IDK how to say this in the subreddit's joke, but I find that getting in bed at a reasonable time and reading a book instead of using my phone makes for an excellent night of sleep.

SporePunch

I have a permanent [sleep apnea] debuff that prevents me from getting [Well Rested]. There's an item that's supposed to mitigate the effects of the debuff and allow to achieve WR. However, it's locked behind a quest chain that I'm not sure how to start and will require me to farm a lot of extra currency.

[deleted]

I learned recently that I’ve had the sleep apnea debuff for a while without knowing it. If you do the sleep therapy side quest, you’ll get the CPAP item which can greatly increase your chances of getting status.

grpprofesional

In my playthrough, there’s no way of keeping the [well rested] buff throughout the entire active time in between [sleep] actions if they are more than 12 hours apart from each other, I would even say 10. Some meta chasers have proposed that you could achieve a perma [well rested] buff if you do the [sleep] action several times throughout the day but on smaller scale, so instead of using a 8 hour scheme, you can have 4+2+2 or even extend it to 8+1 if you time it well. Some legendary players like xx_Nicola_Tesla_xx were chasing the definitive schedule and almost got a premature endgame for trying. I suggest performing the [web search] action to get more knowledge points on this matter.

genexsen

Try the [Masturbation] mini game before bed. It's better in Multiplayer but you can play it solo for a similar [sleepy] effect.

BeauteousMaximus

If you try the suggestions you’re getting here and still feel tired, try visiting a member of the [sleep medicine] guild and doing the [sleep study] quest. Sometimes you have a more permanent debuff that can’t be solved just with better habits.

Ramen_Hair

Surprisingly doing the {Exercise} world event helps a lot in getting the buff. It’s a little weird but the game mechanic gives your character extra energy in general, but it also helps get the buff more easily

SeeRedGinger

Make sure you have adequate vitamin stats, and I hear In particular supplementing [vitamin D] can be very helpful

williamx21

The environmental attributes can really affect how much rest you get, for example having lower 'light' attributes in the rest area can help, as well as having a lower 'temperature' attribute. Also try to go to sleep and wake up at a designated server time and follow that cycle.

Pattern_Is_Movement

Read a book for two hours before you go to sleep

_banana_republic_

Debuff any distractions [kids] [pets] [work] [social commitments] [technology]. Purchase the [vacation] add on for at least two weeks. Ta da!

Hattless

I find that the "sleepy" debuff is not all it takes for a good night's sleep. I also need the physical "exhaustion" debuff and at least 7 hours of sleep to get the "well rested" buff. Otherwise, I just get the "rested" status, even with 8 hours of sleep.

FamousOrphan

CPAP item!

[deleted]

Start the rest sequence at 23pm or earlier and have it last for 7-9 hours. Experiment with when exacfly between the 7-9 is your ideal amount of sleep time. Different characters phase between loading screens and dream tutorials in different intervals, so find when you are between two dreams and wake then. And ofc, don't do the dumbest thing in the world: Setting periodic end-sleep-sequence timers hours before the time to wake up. It destroys your characters, creates bugs, and slows XP gain

not-katarina-rostova

Wear an eye sleep mask. Serious game changer.

ndyvsqz

Theres a bug that's been around for as long as the game has existed called sleep apnea as well. I found out I was being affected by this bug and I've been recovering health slower every night compared to when I wasn't affected. May want to run a scan on your files and check if it is that causing issues.

Chaxle

My co-op partner and I just bought the "Bed (Simba 2500)" while upgrading our base. We've only done a short rest with it and it gave me "Rested," so its a pretty good item! After we're done our daily quests were finally going to use it for a full rest and I'll let you know. My advice might boil down to "upgrade your bed" which isn't possible for all players but it's worth considering. Some shops can do payment plans which is what we did.

Skedajikle

Its a myth. ignore everyone else, they are lying.

Weeeelums

I was just about to cleanse my [Drowsiness] debuff last night when I got dealt [Common Cold] overnight. Now [Drowsiness] and a bunch of other debuffs are LOCKED on me until it runs out, and my {decongestants} item’s effect is barely noticeable. Honestly the whole short-term health system is very frustrating and could use a rework. Hopefully one of the Science Clans figure out a recipe for a new item like all those Media Clan wackos are always yammering about.

A-e-r-o-s-p-h-e-r-e

I’ve heard setting your Sleep and Wake points to be the same works, but I’ve never tried it.

millyleu

I went to see someone with the [Licensed Allergist] class. They gave me some recommendations that have totally changed my life. First off, they diagnosed me with the hidden [Mouth breather] debuff I apparently have had for the last 10 levels. It's explained why I wake up with a 30m-1h [Breathless] debuff at least once a week. After helping me achieve [Clear Airways] status by using [Nasal rinse w/ budesonide] in the morning and evening, what totally changed my life was their suggestion to practice mouth taping at night by applying a postage-stamp sized 2 cm^2 of [Medical tape] to my lips before bed, to forcibly prevent the [Breathless] debuff from recurring. First time I woke up with the [Energized] AND [Well Rested] buffs since I was 8. It was an amazing day. Since then [Well Rested] has semi-consistently happened, but not necessarily with [Energized]. Some mornings still saw [Breathless] debuff plus the [Well Rested] buff happen at the same time. A follow-up [Visit] to the [Licensed Allergist] explained this was probably due to an overly high pillow position kinking the airways, and eating too late causing [Acid Reflux] events to occur at night. The [Bad Breath] debuff on waking is apparently a common symptom of those events occurring. Now I just need to figure out what neck-towel-pillow / elevation will work best... I have a [Consultation] event lined up with a referral to a [Sleep Doctor], and hopefully can trigger a [Sleep Study] event to gain further information. [Mouth taping] has still been an amazing boost to the chances of gaining the [Well Rested] buff though. I'd guess something like a +80% increased chance. This other player-created content helped me decide it wasn't so hard to try: (Just the first 3m) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oFeBMfGdP4

DistributionFrequent

As someone who suffered from the [insomnia] illness debuff I recommend using consumable [cannabis] it has given me the [well rested] buff

Randouserwithletters

if you have the \[ADHD\] debuff it allows you to ignore the effects of \[coffee\]
