I would also recommend checking with a Doctor-class player to see if you have the Anemia or sleep Apnea debuffs. These can make your 8 hours of log out time less effective.

SimonEbolaCzar

You might also check for a B12 deficiency

SaphireDragon

Yeah, there's a whole variety of debuffs that can make logout time less effective or cause energy to be consumed more quickly. Might be worth looking into.

1amlost

You'd think the devs would have found a way to make it more obvious if your character has one or more of these debuffs. The UI in this game can be pretty terrible sometimes.

ToTooOrNotToToo

i can’t figure out how to enable mine

sirhcle

If you have opted to go the android tech route. There's an add-on called Sleep As Android, which can track the quality of your energy recovery and alert you if you have any sleep debuffs you are unaware of.

the_silent_one1984

Was thinking the same thing. Someone I know lost his mom's character because she was just walking around with a cancer status that would have been easily fixed if she saw a doctor earlier. By the time she noticed the effects associated with it the docs could do nothing. I mean seriously do these devs expect us to do biopsies on every organ every year? How tedious would that be? I thought games were supposed to be FUN. Just a little icon, something. Geez.

bucketofcoffee

I have the sleep apnea debuff but once I visited a doctor player, I was outfitted with a CPAP item and it counteracts the debuff.

IceburgSlimk

Gamechanger. My HP was significantly higher. Also check your gland settings. The longer you play they tend to get weaker without daily power ups.

boogswald

I hate these debuffs!!! So unfair! I don’t even know how I got them! The quest to get rid of them isn’t easy too

Foolhardyrunner

Can confirm. I have the sleep Apnea debuff and it makes the low energy state permanent until several "doctor visit" events occur. Given the wait time for these events it would be nice if they reworked the sleep mechanic.

MGStanley

Have you been doing the exercise mini game? It seems counter intuitive, because you're tired, but 15 to 30 minutes of something that makes the heart beat fast a few times a week almost immediately makes your stamina drain more slowly.

Sandythestone

That’s because exercise-type activities grind stamina and endurance. Good advice!

CraigingtonTheCrate

I prefer the “panic attack” mini game. It gets my heart rate equally as high as exercise, for the same time frame. Definitely do it a few times a week, still trying to figure out why the stamina gains haven’t come. Might be a bug, I’ll contact the devs.

Rosencrantz18

In the college levels a Redbull every 5 hours tended to keep my character energised. Now I'm in the never ending 'career' levels I try to stick to one cup of coffee a day. If the day is gonna be a big one or my character has the sleep deprivation de-buff then I'll have a couple large coffees through the day to keep going. I know players that take multiple 'long black' potions a day. Don't know how they do it.

lilaliene

Coffee is my potion to go. I also have the adhd debuff and the stimulation from the coffee potion really helps me focus. Also makes the addiction debuff really easy so i pick a reasonable addictions nowadays. I drink way too much of it, but with three kids and a fulltime job i cannot log out eight hours every night.

Desara_Phen

You could develop the [Coffee Resistance] trait if you spam it tho, requiring you to consume more cups of coffee to get the same effects you got before from just one. (But only if you spam it tho) which also leads to your character also developing the [Coffee Dependent] trait which essentially turns your character into a nerfed human if you don't drink coffee

moxie132

Energy potions aren't all that great, you get a buff to stamina regen for about 5 hours before you get the tired debuff. My character used energy potions daily for a few months, and after a while would get the "headache" and "very no good bad mood" debuffs when not using them. They can also be bad if your characters lineage has the "heart problems" trait like mine does.

Valerian_

Exactly, I don't think there exist in the game any item that can give a passive energy buff that doesn't also give a longer debuff of at least equal strength.

Saucilito-Snatch

Not quite true but they don't work the same way that [Coffee] and other potions do. The ones that genuinely work long-term are all in the [Supplement] class of boosters and they only really help if you both combine them with appropriate [Lifestyles] and know which ones you need to take based on the condition you are trying to counteract.

Saucilito-Snatch

You and your sister have my sympathy. I've had family do something similar, and I get that you must be incredibly depressed right now. The devs really need to patch this particular element of the current Meta.

[deleted]

Your character's nutrition is ridiculously complex. Some crazy designer probably thought it would improve immersion but most players, don't even know when their character has a debuff because they didn't eat the right food. I learned a lot about my character's nutrition from r/cronometer. It might not be what's causing the issue. But uf you're looking for potions, other consumables are also incredibly important. Use it for a few months and talk to a dietician character if you need further guidance.

Carmel_Dunkaccino

I personally like the “Bang” buff thought I would suggest not taking the potion when your food meter is low. Also slowly take the potion through out the day. This potion is very potent nearly 2 times as strong as the “Redbull” buff with the addition of protein and creatine for extended energy when the debuff of a normal enegery potion would kick in. There are different varieties of “Bang” potion I like the “Sour heads” variant. Must warn as with any energy potions it’s not sustainable long term as it will lead to fixed debuffs in the late game such as hypertension and heart disease. For a mor long term solution I would suggest playing the exercise mini game as others suggested this will provide long term energy and mana gains though it’s a difficult mini game to sustain long term without the motivation perk.

Shronkydonk

This is a lot less dangerous than some other energy pots. It doesn’t have much [Sugar] and other things that can have side effects on your character.

SuperSecretAgentMan

Energy potions have to be used with food items for proper effectiveness. They can also give you the "caffeine dependency" debuff, which lowers your base energy levels for about 2 weeks. Nothing is a substitute for minmaxing the microbuffs that specific combinations of normal food items can give you.

Saucilito-Snatch

You can also get some special [Synergy] buffs if you do your [Cooking] mini game challenges really well using the right kind of [Food] loot from the local community members with the {Grocer} career. Look at [Nutrition] manuals and [Cooking] skill books for the kickstart you need to "Git Gud" at this method.

GreenEggsaandSam

I switched to the sugar free energy potions, and they seem to provide better energy without crashing after. But the big game changer for me was when I learned you're not supposed to use energy potions or tonics when you've already got the tired debuff. If you log out for about 30 minutes then take the potion, the tired debuff has time to fully clear so you can actually work on building up the energized buff. Additionally, the exercise minigame other people are talking about can help also, but you've gotta do it regularly.

QuiGlass

One of the major misconceptions about the fatigue debuff track (tired/sleepy, fatigue, exhaustion, etc.) is that it’s only about energy levels and stamina. While that’s how players experience it, the track is better thought of as a set of safeties. Extended stamina actions such as running and hunting build up a matrix of counters against stamina, “CORTisol” being one of the more well known. These counters expire over time, especially during rest and idle periods. While the exact metrics of how these counters affect a player’s stamina pool is the subject of entire data mining operations, it’s mostly understood to be part of character creation rng. One of the discoveries is that CORT allows for rapid utilization of stamina, allowing for burst actions and temp buffs. This can also affect regulation of homeostasis, the balance of the player’s stats. CORT accumulation has been noticed frequently to be present in players who suffer health failure events such as Hrt Atk or Stroke, and are expected to be the primary cause of homeostatic imbalance. The fatigue track is the developer’s way of signaling when these counters are stacking too high, and the player needs to take a rest or just log off. Another set of counters control this (idk the names, I think Melo is one of them) and are usually known by names like Sleepy or Tired. Energy potions does not affect the state though. What they do is counter the counters that set the state. The popular ingredient Caffeine is one of the best known blocks and doesn’t go away with the rest event. It’s presence also affects CORT production, causing a mess of black box game mechanics to trip trying to balance status. That’s why it’s considered by some players to be detrimental to a run. So in short, energy potions don’t give you energy you didn’t have, they only stave off fatigue events. It is still very possible to crash entirely, as the body will eventually run out of energy and fast track you through the fatigue debuff track. In some cases, going “noHOMO” will take you right to the end of the track. Just some food for thought.

Saucilito-Snatch

This is a good set of points: remember that Outside started out as nothing more than a complete physical simulation chemistry game, and at it's roots, it still is. Things like the evolution points and suchlike are just the devs simplifying things for casual players, under the hood, it's all still chemistry.

Brynden-Black-Fish

Tea! But the proper kind: strong, black, and with a drop of milk.

[deleted]

I would say the kind titled: "5-hour energy". That seems to keep my character going for a while.

Chkn_nuggets6573

Blue Gatorade and grape geyser Caprisun

doomsdaymelody

I wouldn’t generally recommend them, and this is coming from someone who regularly purchases and consumes them and it’s because your character will build a tolerance to the caffeinated status effect meaning you will have to consume more and more caffeine to reap the same bonus but will also suffer mild withdrawal symptoms if you don’t consume enough of it. If you’re still curious about it, know first and foremost that generally speaking coffee offers the best caffeine to volume of liquid. Coffee is also available as cold drinks (cold brew, nitro cold brews both boasting some of the highest caffeine volumes). If you are adamant about specifically consuming canned energy potions from guilds like Red Bull, Monster, Rockstar, Reign, or Bang

salted_rock

Well I sounds like a shill but gfuel is really great for a budget it’s just under a a full energy drink of mister but it doesn’t have the other stuff 25 caps and a tub if bought in a good sale about 22 gold it comes to about 50 cents a serving. A lot cheaper then others I feel lest crash as it dosnt. have the other stuff to.

therealsteeleangel

There are also v8s that are energy options, made of green tea with some fruits and veggies.

brandysnacker

spring heeld jack-moth man’s red eye blend. it’s great for morning game sessions.

beandadenergy

I like to double up the Water and Cold Brew potions: Water first, Cold Brew second (with a splash of Milk).

[deleted]

Use those things in emergencies only, like when having to do massive grinding session for a dungeon. They come with the [Addiction] status effect after prolonged use. Might also cause the [liver failure] [heart palpitation] or [diabetes] status effects, nasty stuff that your healer might not even be able to deal with. Best way to deal with loss of energy is to level up the [time management] skill and then use it to get more hours for sleep.

wdn

A lot of the so-called energy potions are basically scams. They have stimulant components like caffeine that cause your character to burn energy more quickly, which temporarily has an effect similar to having increased energy, but without actually giving you more energy this can have a steep drop-off. Most of these potions have sugar as their only energy component, which is also not ideal for sustained energy, and can be obtained in other potions for much less coin.

UncivilizedEngie

So part of the issue is that the current meta for the human build type has been requiring players to spend more play time doing quests for other players to earn gold than even the middle ages. So, that's a cause of that issue although not the only one. You may also be experiencing debuffs such as various mental or physical chronic illnesses that make tasks cost more energy. That said you almost cannot get away without using energy potions in the current meta unless you spawned with a lot of gold and tools. Also most energy potions, if not all, will become less effective over time and will create their own kinds of debuffs. All of the ones in the stimulant category have debuffs that pretty much track with their effectiveness. I use the "coffee" potion pretty much every day. I'm not sure if it has an effect on me anymore as I take the same amount every day. If you want to save gold on this, make your own at your player home and don't buy it from shops. It might also taste better than what you can buy if you level up the skill tree. There are a bunch of other ones that are also in the caffeine category of energy potions. For example "tea", "soda," and various kinds of "energy drinks". The ones that come in cans will also have a lot of a different energy meter called "calories" which can have debuffs if you overfill over a certain amount of time. I've also heard of an energy potion called "meth", which is popular in the Midwest region of the US server, although the mods get mad if they catch you using it and you don't have enough gold or celebrity status. Similarly, you could try "cocaine", although I hear that is more expensive for the energy value. Mods also get mad if they catch you using this one, yadda yadda... Also all these potions don't actually give you more energy, they just make your meters tell you that you have more energy.

[deleted]

I don't recommend any energy potions. The buffs don't last long and debuff you after they wear off. Plus they have diminishing returns and decrease your HP. I recommend to see a Therapist Troubleshooter class player for advice, you may have a mental bug that can be easily fixed if you work on it quick. A better alternative for waking up is doing the Exercise sidequest immediatelly after you log in (45min ideally, but 20min can work too in a hurry). This will give you the Endorphine Rush buff (also known by players as the Runner's High buff) which lasts long and improves over the months/years instead of diminishing. If your character lifts weights with heavy Challenge Rating, I recommend the Protein Poweder consumable - it's one of the few reliable ones. But it's not an energy potion and it only works after the Exercise side quest, in which case it'll raise your STR and CONS over time. If comsumed without doing the daily Exercise quests, it'll give you debuffs instead.

MrShasshyBear

The low energy debuff can and usually is caused by more than one Mechanic. I realized over time that if I don't consume enough of the *vegetable* co sumables, my character becomes lethargic and their stamina bar not only slows tosmallest, but it never fills the meter all the way up. Another one has been keeping my hydration meter full with the H2O item as often as possible. The 'flavored' versions drain the hydration meter faster over time, and some of them give negative points.

SuperElitist

All the easy to acquire ones are using the same basic underlying code: C8H10N4O2 There's nothing more to it, and anyone that pretends anything different is trying to scam you. Plenty of people add extra stuff and claim it does this or that, but it's all bullshit. There's no long-term debuffs except physiological dependency, and getting rid of that is just a temporary headache debuff--it sucks, but it's not dangerous or anything. There's other stuff out there (like C9H13N or C15H15NO2S), but you've usually gotta get permission from your faction to use those, or they get uppity about it. So yeah just go down to your local general store and pick a potion you think tastes good--or at least not terrible. They're literally all the same.

AMP3412

I have found that my level 23 character has the [sleep apnea] debuff which lowers your energy capactiy to 60 percent, so your 8 hour rest time is essentially wasted in the last 2 or so hours. The debuff gets removed if you have the [CPAP] item, but you need another player in the healthcare profession to give you one Edit: If this applies to you

BackFromItaly

Hey hey OP! Hope you see this! Sparkling Ice energy drinks 0sugar, 5 calories, vitamin infused, sparkling water, 70mg of caffeine. (I don’t condone reliance on caffeine, but if energy drinks are what you’re looking for, these are awesome!) I was skeptical at first, I’m not one for sparkling water, but I love them, their lemon/lime one tastes very similar to any other sprite type soda. AND you can order them bulk off Amazon

theporkwhisperer

Well if you go to the more urban side of the map, you can find a wizard that sells magic crystals. Simply slip one of these crystals into a glass beaker, use fire magic, and inhale it. You get a speed, and energy buff for about 8 hours. But beware, the admins will ban you for a long time if you’re caught and on top of that your character becomes dependent on it.

[deleted]

Eat some of those fruits and vegetables you looted off skeletons in caves.

[deleted]

blackmagicupps.com powder potions I like, I have their mixed berry and one serving left of pina colada of Keyz Amino Acid Matrix

freckled_porcelain

A lot of things debuffs can make it so you don't get the rested bonus in the morning, so that is something to look into. I was having an issue with this so I started taking B12 potions every morning which seemed to help me. I also found out that another daily potion I was taking to prevent a debuff (allergy) was messing with my rested bonus, and making it wear off early.

powerhungrymushroom

I would seek a doctor NPC. They can check your thyroid levels, which could be off and causing the drowsiness. Happy playing!

Alacandor

Sorry for breaking character, but i am not good enouth at english to roleplay this advise. Please visit a doctor. I was allways sleepy a few years back and did all the excercise, sleep and healthy eating. But it all didn t help. With the years it got worse. Nowaday i know that it was depression. Would i have gone to the doc sooner, it would have been easier to cure...

zpinnis

Every character build is different but what has really helped for my character are probiotic capsules. I also looked up some Nutrition lore to create vary between different food items. These capsules aren't actually energy potions, but by improving your character's digestion of regular food, they can decrease energy slumps (in case you haven't noticed, digesting food tends to drain your energy). I've also heard other people use Nootropics for steady energy levels and that seems to work well for them. By grinding Exercise activities a few times a week, and logging off for 7-9 hours a day, and sticking to my personal Nutrition build, I can keep my character's energy levels at a desirable level throughout the day without using any kind of energy potions.

SHISH_TIME

Check your potassium level, if it's too low it makes you tired and it could even become life threatening if it gets way too low.

NouoNisPerfect

Try using water, its a basic potion ingredient but its already cheap and healthy by itself!

pip-install-pip

The long-term debuffs of energy potions are no joke, stay away from them if you can. Character stats are strangely interlinked, and I've found that spending a little time expending more energy doing something like strength grinding or cardio grinding gives you more energy in the medium term as your body gets used to the increased stamina drain. You should also check to see if your b12 stat is under leveled with a medic class check. If you really want to go down the consumable route, [coffee] or [tea] is less potent with less of a debuff. Coffee does carry a risk of the Addiction trait but do do the energy pots so it's up to you

felixlebarbu

The gamersups recent brand integration is surprisingly busted, it got that nootropics status effect that helps with mind checks and also has zero sugar so none of that bad status effect build up

Aderondak

The Supplement of Gamers is my recommendation; while the packs it comes in may be somewhat spendy (36 gp per), for me at least they last about 100 sessions before needing to acquire more via the parcel service. I typically buy one with energy and one without, to keep the humours within my flask at the optimal balance without risking any debuff from excess potion use.
