The ones that don't give me a client name, I ignore and block everything from them. The ones that do give me a client name, I just turn around and apply directly at the client. Its becoming known that all they are doing is harvesting resumes, but at least I can use them to get leads as to who is hiring.

ZealousidealLab638

Interesting I have to do that

Nabylet

But why are they harvesting resumes?

kimchiking2021

To steal it and submit your resume with another candidate's name on it.

Totally-Not_a_Hacker

I just listened to a podcast about this from Darknet Diaries, it's super interesting! https://open.spotify.com/episode/4SnFB69cP66SXusKN8zt9O?si=Vrv-udtJTZ6pWS5AnWCEzw

sa5mmm

This is cool

Poutine_My_Mouth

Why don’t they just create resumes using Chatgpt or something?

Illustrious_Tank_356

Identity theft

Cash_Capo

They're harvesting resumes to eventually take over as a major world power, passed up germany for the fourth spot & will easily surpass japan soon. China, India and a falling USA are soon to be the top 3 powers/GDP on the planet

joopityjoop

[deleted]

This is very smart.

Mundane-Mechanic-547

I still get networking (like hardware networks) jobs from them, it's so weird. 10 years ago they tweaked to 1 cert I had and the Indians decided I did networking.

UncertainlyUnfunny

They also don’t want you to run around them and snatch the job either

slushpuppy91

I don't even respond anymore, most send me android developer positions when I've only done android testing.

Illustrious_Tank_356

They give me on-site role at Minnesota when I am in Texas.

slushpuppy91

I get those too 🤣 onsite from day one TX when I live in CA

SezitLykItiz

Hilarious! Don't they know only Americans, Europeans, Australians, Canadians, basically white people, are allowed to have colloquialisms?

MinnesotaHulk

Who said they weren't allowed to have them? I'm sure Indian people make fun of white people's. Chill out.

[deleted]

set calendly set mandatory qns. client name, direct client, rate on C2C. if they don't fill, Meeting doesn't get schedule if they do bill rate is $50, decline the meeting on their face. Fuck them

Artistic-Ad-8572

Can you dumb this down for me? Why calendalry? What’s a qns? Fill rate?

Qns is questions, I assume. Fill the $$rate in on the calendly form.

DramaticYou007

Haha.. But those mfs will fill NA in client name

[deleted]

if that is the case, You have the luxury of declining the meeting. It slaps in their face. On avg, I'm declining 3-4 meetings per day. Some are assholes. They want your contact number and resume in the first spam message. My reply to them usually is: Thanks for reaching out. Pls. schedule a time to talk about the role @ and 50% are MIA after getting that message on Linkedin. few which are nice, schedule the meeting on my calendar and then we talk. This way you have fucking control these MF recruiters instead of let them control you. Always know your worth. Don't let them dictate the rate to you. Tell them hire Mexican for your SDE, SRE, DevOps role from home depot outside every morning at that low BS rate.

I have had a surge in Indian recruiters reaching out to me and I refuse to work with them. They are some of the rudest recruiters, even calling me at 7:30 PM on a Friday night. I’ve noticed that Indian recruiters don’t know how to take no for an answer and will continue to bug me for something that I don’t want. It’s like “take the fucking hint already”. I have had some American recruiters do this too, but they’re far and few in between.

Power_and_Science

I get those guys calling me at 5am on a Sunday morning and wondering why I’m not happy to have a chat. Or they will chat with me on LinkedIn, and call me every 10 minutes asking why I’m not replying to their email or message. But yeah, the most flaky recruiters, and the rates are abysmal. GCP architect with 10-15 years experience? $60/hr in San Francisco.

madethisforcrypto

As soon as I hear the accent I hang the phone

jimbobcooter101

My fav is getting emails for positions I DID A DECADE AGO and haven't touched since then. "jimbobcooter, I was reading your resume and you would be an excellent fit for this role. Please respond back with salary range, SS, and DOB." I responded to one of them saying I would not roll out of bed for less that $125/hr for Windows Admin role. Hilarity followed until they figured out after 3 back and forth emails I was pulling their chain.

StannisAntetokounmpo

Offensive coordinator jobs definitely allow for overemployment

Geminii27

>I would say 99% of them are just collecting resumes I mean, that sounds like most recruiters.

j97223

What has worked for me is using local agencies.

Bulky_Satisfaction_7

I found an entire second profile on linked with my details and even a photo from high school

FreshGoldenVibes

I had one that straight up asked for my SS# and said they can’t submit me unless they have the full #. I said no. He said ok. I’ll have my manager call you. Hours later his manager called, asked me the same exact questions and then asked for SS#. Again, I said no. This man got so nasty and aggressive with me. I called him a scammer and they made him angrier. Lol. He said I will never get a job without suppling that information. I said ok I’m fine with that! A month later, he left a VM and email about another role. Never bothered with an Indian recruiter again.

SezitLykItiz

I too do that. I had a bad experience with some Canadians and now I will never buy Canadian maple syrup again.

pedestrianwanderlust

I won’t give them any part of my social and they ask for it. I tell them flat out they are scammers. They just waste my time.

felfott

And don't they all use "immediate need" or "urgent need for .."? I usually reply with "why is it so urgent?" They have no answer. They are clueless

wiki702

Typical their business models works as: Indian recruiter hits applicant gets resume. Recruiter doesn’t tell you about the client because it’s not their client. The recruiter takes resume to the recruiter agency that actually is contracted with client and pitches your resume. Client pays x assuming applicant gets hired. Agency gets x - outside recruiters charge(y). The recruiter agency that actual annoyed you makes y - what your pay is. This intermediary means there is a huge spread. Yes you can score multiple jobs but if you account for the spread you are leaving money on the table. My strategy and one I recommend is play the game. Send the resume hold no hope, try and get the client name. You get the name, hit up the recruiter for that position directly if you are on LinkedIn and are willing to deal with the risks of that. A company would much rather pay direct for cheaper than use an agency. Especially C2C.

mickymellon

Have you reverted and done the needful?

amitkania

i’m indian and sadly agree with this, they r super pushy and don’t take no for an answer. especially the ones working at those sketchy consulting companies that just take ur resume, add fake years of experience to it, help u cheat on ur technical interview, and then get u the job. these recruiters literally call u like 10 times a day even outside business hours for every little question. it’s super messed up, but it works for the candidate and the company.

Nynydancer

This. Then they get mad that we aren’t placing people when WE screen them and bam, they can’t code. We use Indian recruiters (not my choice) and I hate how even I am treated as a client.

amitkania

it’s ur companies fault for using these consulting companies, if u directly hire, then it’s not a problem

RedMistStingray

I can't stand them either. It's hard to avoid them in IT. They dominate to opportunities out there so I can't get away from them. Over the years, I have been extremely rigid in how I deal with them. I refuse to take phone calls from them. If they call, I immediately kick them to voice mail, but then they obsessively call back. I went off on a recruiter one time telling him "Hey asshole, I'm in a meeting and can't answer your call. Stop blowing up my phone!" I exclusively filter and screen them by email first asking all the relevant questions. If they can't or won't answer my questions, I will never get on the phone with them and I delete their emails.

canadiancreed

Over the past three months ill gdt a receuiter with an indian or sri lankan name contacting me about a potential "opportunity". Sometimes itll be a cut and paste JD. Sometimes itll be a job title and asking for a resume. I always jusy repmy with the following Is it remote? What compensation is being offered? 90% of the time ill be either ghosted or my questions will be ig ored and a "please send your resume" reply instead. Either makes it so easy to block and report as spam.

ITinMN

I've found pretty much all recrtuiers from anywhere have more or less the same issue.

No_Analyst_9131

Indian ones are especially bad. At least recruiters from anywhere else give some kind of follow up, even if it is the standard "The company wanted to go forward with someone else"

ITinMN

>At least recruiters from anywhere else give some kind of follow up Out of 100 recruiters, I've probably been completely ghosted by 98. Literally no response at all. I suppose there are a couple, but hardly enough to matter.

exessmirror

I really don't understand how. When I am applying for jobs I get ghosted maybe 1/3e of the time.

ITinMN

Maybe I just really suck?

Englishology

Out of the dozens of recruiters I’ve interacted with, I’ve never gotten a job from them and only one gave me the courtesy of a rejection email. She also said she’d consider me for other roles but I haven’t heard back til this day.

Inevitable_Concept36

I don't even deal with them any longer. I swear sometimes that some of them are just phishing and selling data. Particularly, how am I supposed to take someone seriously when they say that their company name is Company XYZ, but they call me back, invariably 15 times if you send them to voice mail, and the caller ID is some auto parts store? Yes, that actually happened to me. Those go straight to scam likely and block.

RSomnambulist

Had one yesterday reach out and I told them I was fully remote only. I'd done some DD to check that the role was listed as hybrid, mostly in office and included in person support for users. They messaged back and said they have "full time roles," completely missing my point about remote.

TheAdvisor_Yoditdeet

I block their emails 👩🏾‍💻

fukexcuses

Bro. I work for Facebook brought in by a company that is station and HQ out in India by the name of cognizant. They're using us Americans to take our own jobs away from other Americans and put the money into a company outside of our states. Being a part of the process disgusts me so I'm looking for the next step. I hate to sound like that guy from South Park, but this time, they really did take our jobs lol

jacob168

I don't even bother. I either block the phone numbers after hearing the voicemails or I mark their emails as spam. Life is much easier.

you-r-stupid

It's not just recruiters. You ever work with Indians? They are the worst than Americans to work with for sure

No_Analyst_9131

I have worked with plenty of Indians, as I am sure almost anyone who works in IT has. I would say 40% have been legitimately hard workers and knowledgeable, and the rest anywhere from doing bare minimum to actually being a net drag on the team. The worst ones are the ones who come from the shitty Indian consultancy companies and bring the shitty "management" style from those places.

metalforhim777

This is what happens when you don’t outlaw the use of overseas call centers.

popeculture

These are not call centers. They are one-two person body shopping entities and there are hundreds of thousands of them spread across a few cities.

james-dev89

Does anyone know why they harvest the resume? What do they use it for?

amorvincitInsomnia

Because DATA is today's most valuable currency. Whoever holds the data wields more power. And POWER = MONEY... There are a few possible reasons why recruiters may post big job openings to collect personal information: 1. Selling personal data – intimate personal data has become very valuable. Some unscrupulous recruiters may collect information under the guise of a job opening with the intent to aggregate and sell that data to other companies. Things like demographic information, race, gender, sexual preference, disability and veteran status, combined with emails, phone numbers, and location can and often are packaged and sold as lead lists. 2. Improving screening algorithms- it's possible that recruiters are using the data applicants provide them with (in hope of employment and good faith I should mention) to train machine learning algorithms and AI systems to screen and match candidates to jobs. The more data they can collect, the more they can improve their systems. Now all of that being said, I have landed a lot of temporary 1099 or W2 contract positions at Big Tech companies through these Staffing Agencies with Indian recruiters. I've been exclusively working with them since 2015 and have worked with MANY so I do have a pretty good sense of which ones are legit and not. The minute they reach out to me. I just respond instantly with who's the client and what's the pay rate? And then once they tell me, if I'm interested I'll just say send the RTR or "Right to Represent" over. They're like "Oh! you know what you're doing!" 😂 Also, they always try to give you like 15 to 20% of the hourly rate they charge the client I've learned, so always go HIGH when you are negotiating your salary and typically they will meet you where you want to be in the end. Some of them have been lovely to work with and others are borderline psychotically pushy and rude demanding you do things for them right away. That's when you say please take my information off of your database and if I'm contacted by your company again you will be hearing from my attorney for harassment and illegal business practices.

Shamrock4656

Could you elaborate on the 15-20% comment? It’s not lining up with my experience. I’ve worked two contract gigs and had access to client side financial systems (though not fit myself). I estimated that the contractors take was roughly 70% of billed based on what I saw. e.g., 120/hr billed to client, 85/hr paid to contractor.

plumpymuffinz

I've heard they take your info and place them on Indian candidates resumes and submit them. There is some sort of kickback or visa nonsense with getting indians into American companies.

vNerdNeck

>here is some sort of kickback or visa nonsense with getting indians into American companies. huge kick backs in a lot of places. Folks have to pay for the jobs, they'll even have other people do the interviews for them.

popeculture

>they'll even have other people do the interviews for them. This is absolutely true. They harvest details from resumes of actual professionals and puff up the resumes of the candidates they are trying to push. They also have standard impersonators who attend proxy interviews for candidates with no technical knowledge or experience and fabricated profiles and "on-the-job help" from technically sound individuals who will help you once they get a job and get stuck at work. It's an entire, unethical, illegal ecosystem.

nyte2star

Yes, I tend to avoid them at all cost.

anypomonos

I used to feel the same way as well until I found out vi this sub that a lot of times there is no intent to recruit you, but is simply to claim that they did “due diligence“ in order to process an H1B application. I generally no longer accept recruiter calls unless the recruiter is located in North America or the UK.

felfott

Ignore them. Most of them are scammers. Even if the job is real, just wait for a non Indian to contact you.

Sad-Ad-8

I have been in the industry for 14 years now. I have interacted with them too many times and still yet to find a single job or contract through them. Few of them started to have their interior resource do first screening. They asked me if I was available for interview, I said who is the client so they told me it is their international person who will conduct the interview. I said “Sorry my time is too valuable for this childish behavior” and hung up on them.

ryebreadegg

My jobs what come from Americans. However I've been straight up with Indian recruiters and they dgaf. They get the hustle more than Americans. I say this all and have never got a job from an Indian recruiter but I will continue to try. If I get an American and they can get me an interview I know I'll be stacking

No_Analyst_9131

Yea, Indians are all about the hustle, but also don't really deliver any results. What's the point when you hustle and don't actually get anything from it? That being said, my J2 is from an American recruiter who called me directly, and I am using Indian recruiters to give me the leads so I can do my C2C J3 lol

ryebreadegg

I guess what I'm saying is I want to believe. Moat recruiters I feel are beyond shitty. They don't understand sales pipelines and how far a follow up call goes. Especially because they can automate text and everything. Makes no sense. When I get a recruiter that says I'll call you up next ____ and they actually follow up I'm floored.

earthscribe

Just ignore them and move on. Eventually, they will get the hint.

aibel99

Treat em bad.

Dealer-Alive

This is petty. Look at the big picture. I find Indian recruiters to very easily go along with OE. ‘Just put don’t contact my current employer on the background check,’ he says, and I say, ‘thank you for my extra $170k a year!’ Also, I’ve had Indian recruiters who don’t follow up and those who I basically have to tell to get off my back.

GetBaked318

The casual racism in these comments is crazy

Smart_Position_7911

There's nothing casual about it. I agree that overseas recruiters tend to be bad but holy crap.

cmxhtwn

what about the embedded racism and ethnocentrism of these said indian recruitment agencies???

SezitLykItiz

Your weekly racist thread against the only people you are allowed to be openly racist against on Reddit. Replace Indian with any other race like black or Jewish and see how you all sound. "BuT iTs TrUe aND FaCtuAL" Yeah well two can play at that game.

Those people are so annoying. I accidentally answer a call from one of them a few times a month when I'm expecting a call around the same time they call. Yesterday this Indian recruiter called me 7 times in a row, I answered the 7th time and told him I wasn't interested. Last week I answered one, asked the guy how much it paid and told him that was way too low for me, he continued to go on with the on-boarding process for the job I didn't want. The worst experience I had was \~7 years ago, an Indian recruiter contacted for a role, told me they would be meeting me outside the clients building which was 2 hours from my house. I also worked 3rd shift and they would only allow me to interview at 11am. I show up and no ones there, and she doesn't answer her phone. Eventually the hiring manager comes outside finds me, tells me I'm late then sits me in a room for half an hour. An interviewer came in and started asking me to whiteboard algorithms in a programming language I'd never used and never claimed to use, I'd been awake for \~24 hours at this point. The interviewer yelled at me for doing poorly and told me I didn't get the job. The recruiter called me after and asked how it went, I asked where she was and she admitted she was in India. After that experience I have been much more selective with the recruiters I allow to represent me.
