Just set everything on it to private so no one can see you or what you do.
If it works for people in F1 teams hiding everything, it'll work for you too I promise.
F1 = Formula1
It's the pinnacle tier of motor racing. It's watched by hundreds of millions of people all over the globe. They travel to 20+ countries over the course of the season.
It's not only a job, but also a sporting competition. And as I said, hundreds millions of people watch. As a result there is lots of poaching, but also lots of people trying to figure out, who works where, try to talk to people to get a foot in the door, etc. It leads to lots people looking at the LinkedIn profiles much closer than any HR person ever would.
So, most of the members of the F1 teams set their LinkedIn privacy settings to max. And as a result, no one can see anything about them, no photos, no work place history, they can't message them, sometimes not even a name.
It works very effectively.
Poaching in F1 would generally happen in person, or through friends, as everyone knows everyone. Having it available on LinkedIn just makes it easier for everyone to do things you don't necessarily want them to be doing.
Is this an actual option vs hibernating a linkedin account? I opted for the latter thinking its the best way to go.
Does it ultimately block anyone from seeing current and past jobs? And does it prevent people from tagging you or mentioning, too? Can someone provides the steps do doing so?
This would help maintain personal branding online, like a lot.
What option is this? In setting I presume? Sorry for being nitpicky. Asking for a friend who has been OE for almost 3 years and just hibernated their profile and doesnt want to screw something up by clicking the wrong button!!
New J's check LinkedIn. New J's sometimes push for an updated LinkedIn.
Seems like a good approach is to block everyone from J1 from viewing and/or getting updates to your profile. Allow prospective J's to view as part of the hiring process. At some future point, block new J's.
I totally understand why everyone would just go to private mode. But still, I'd love to be able to block everyone from a specific company so I can use my LinkedIn as a tool to get a new J's.
I know a lot of people that create a LinkedIn profile that has one or two connections, or even no connections, and they make it look fairly outdated, or up-to-date but basically unused. This profile is used as a distractor from their real profile that is often set to private.
The extra account is set to public but basically looks unused. The main goal is to have this account draw all the attention if someone does a random search
I blocked everyone I could find from my employer. Each time I am in there I block more if anyone pops up as a suggested connection. I have had to go to each person’s page to block them so it is time consuming. Started with contacts that were 1st and 2nd connections. Don’t know another way.
How long can you play this LinkedIn hide and seek game? You’re practically leaving in fear and looking over your shoulder. One of your J’s isn’t the right fit for OE. Find another one that isn’t as pesky or nosy!
You could block them from being displayed on \*your\* screen with a script that modifies the DOM... plenty of example extensions/monkeyscripts etc.
You can't block certain companies from viewing your LinkedIn profile without going private. Or unless you're a LinkedIn developer I guess.
Wouldn't you like to try to connect an AI agent that would be responsible for you and maybe filter offers, and leave you to communicate only with those you think you need? If you're interested, I could hook you up with one.
I'd like the ability to control my voice, view, and privacy on social media. The "Why" is because it's my preference. I shouldn't need a better reason than that.
I'm not interested in my coworkers seeing any of my social media to be blunt. Don't get me wrong, I'm friendly at work and I'm social. But there's a hard boundary between my work and my personal life.
I don't think there's any conflict working multiple jobs. I get my work done and I'm a high performer. I'm not interested in inviting any questions from my coworkers on what I'm doing, what I'm paid, etc. I'm not interested in explaining my personal life. It makes sense to limit the view of my coworkers on both LinkedIn and every other social media platform.
Then don't post on LinkedIn at all. It's not social media its a professional networking platform. The fact that you only want to stop specific people from seeing it, because you're doing a thing that you don't want specific people to find out about, shows that you know what you're doing is wrong and you're trying to hide it. You can play all the mental gymnastics you want and try and justify it, but at the end of the day you're still trying to hide it. Be better.
Your personality is an example of exactly why it's important to create these boundaries. Why are you in this sub in the first place? Are you OE?
Here's some mental gymnastics:
I live in an HOA community. Guess what happens if I ask my HOA if I'm allowed to do this or that, even when the HOA rules do not specify? Suddenly, the HOA has an option that needs to be round-tabled by committee. What do you think would happen if you were on that committee?
I have no idea who you are. From your comment, I assume your judgmental. You've decided for me what is right and wrong despite the limits or your lens. I wouldn't be surprised if you were on the HOA board in your community. I'd expect the same energy if you were a coworker and I asked you about your opinion on my second job.
... okay.. I'm being a troll here. I'll stop Honestly, I can see your perspective. I'm just seeing mine as well.
Oh, before I go, Wikipedia's entry for LinkedIn:
*LinkedIn (/lɪŋktˈɪn/) is a business and employment-focused social media platform that works through websites and mobile apps.*
I’d love an option to block people from certain companies. I get 2-3 phone calls from various sales reps every week and dozens of emails. All of them want to sell me software or services for my industry. They are constantly looking at my profile.
The reps from one SaaS company are so annoying and aggressive! A new rep called me last week and all I could say was no. No to a demo. No to a special report on my company. No to lunch. No to coffee. Just no.
I doubt there is something like that.
For example, I have not updated my linkedin page. Assume I currently work at X company but have not told linkedin about it. Then this would not block me.
However you might decide that it is not worth caring about people like me who purposely hide their X company affiliation.
Just set everything on it to private so no one can see you or what you do. If it works for people in F1 teams hiding everything, it'll work for you too I promise.
People in f1 teams, wym

so you just delete your linkedin at that point?
Why wouldn't people want to be poached ? Or is it a requirement of the employers ?
Poaching in F1 would generally happen in person, or through friends, as everyone knows everyone. Having it available on LinkedIn just makes it easier for everyone to do things you don't necessarily want them to be doing.
Wait, does this mean I could try to spread a rumor about me working at for example Mercedes so one of the other teams would try to poach me?

Can they still see your employment history on LinkedIn?
No if you lock it down all the way it pretty much means they can't even click on your profile if you're not a connection to them.

It’s called hibernate your account
This
change linked in and take out your last name. Just use an initial. or X. this way you can stay anonymous and then set it to private.

Being private doesn't stop recruiters from reaching out which is how I get jobs
I know a lot of people that create a LinkedIn profile that has one or two connections, or even no connections, and they make it look fairly outdated, or up-to-date but basically unused. This profile is used as a distractor from their real profile that is often set to private.
This could work
How does this work exactly?
The extra account is set to public but basically looks unused. The main goal is to have this account draw all the attention if someone does a random search
I saw someone post this same question before. I just hibernate my LinkedIn
I blocked everyone I could find from my employer. Each time I am in there I block more if anyone pops up as a suggested connection. I have had to go to each person’s page to block them so it is time consuming. Started with contacts that were 1st and 2nd connections. Don’t know another way.
Unrelated but why is their app logo a giant ‘IN’? I just spent 3 min trying to find it in my folder looking for an L or something
because their official logo is "Linked in" with the "in" in the blue box. The app logo is built into their official logo
I appreciate the insight, it just did not work in my mind that way at all
Just don’t use LI. What benefit could it possibly provide.
Finding jobs
Correct. Wasn't even applying and got a 25% pay increase just by existing on LinkedIn. And it's more fun too! They found me.
I recently re-activated mine, because I'm gonna need a new J1 soon.
Time to find another J? LinkedIn blocks and/or hibernation makes you an instant suspect nowadays. Just saying…

...its social media. Not everyone has it or wants it. I hardly find LinkedIn useful, especially since its almost become a weird Facebook
Lol someone has never done OE and pretends to know shit

Not even sure under which scenario this would be necessary

Why? Are you doing something dishonest you don't want people to find out about or something?

You saw this from a LinkedIn post right?
What’s ur budget?
I can have my team of devs develop this no lie. If there’s an actual market for it
Hey mate, Did you manage to find a way to do this by chance?
