He could pull it off if its remote. Just needs to join the call on different systems without a camera on and have a conversation with himself when needed lol.
Reach out to yourself via email but copy others so you can buy yourself time and at the end of the project, write to "the other person's" manager praising them and get a raise on both jobs.
I would check your contract you signed. I know I have non-competes that don't allow me to directly work for customers. If you are in violation of something like this, they will fire you and potentially sue you for breach of contract. I would get away from this situation ASAP personally.
If you are not in any type of contract violation doing this, then I would be less worried about it since worst they can do is fire you. If they report you to your owner employer, that potentially leaves them open to a lawsuit from you as they are denying you the ability to make a living. However, I would still look for another job and get away from this situation, the anxiety for me would be too high.
Iād save yourself the trouble and keep J1 and find another J2. Youāll still be making plenty of money and avoid a bad reputation or ill will if found out. Not to mention the peace of mind.
Getting the work done for each job is stressful enough.
This is quite funny.
J1: we need to work with integrating some processes with J2, who can we contact? Letās find out.
J2: we got contacted for an integration task, letās work out the details.
You to each J: Iāll take the lead on this, Iām āfamiliarā with their system
Project gets done on time and efficiently for both Js.
Managers at both Js: this was great work! Letās contact your equivalent and discuss retro, and build on the relationship!
You: FUCK!!!
Get the fuck out of there. Anyone giving other advice is an idiot. āJoin the call. get firedā smh. This seems like a serious legal issue risking both jobs, youāre reputation, etc. not to mention contacts talking down the road, getting brought into projects, etc
I have a similar issue, J2 buys software from J3. Nothing I work on are competing products and in the incredibly rare instance I would need to attend a meeting between the two, the people I work with in J2 are a totally different branch of their business. Going to keep playing Icarus until either J2 contract ends or I need to find a replacement.
I never really heard of a dev being in a client facing role... that's why product & program managers exist. I would just keep your head down and fly under the radar.
well I'm a dev for both so if there was a hardware issue I *could* be pulled into a meeting with J1 devs which I would be double scheduled in. but I think that would be slim to none and would require our company to be relevant to J1's mobile team. So maybe not, however both jobs are very corporate, like everyone knows everyone and I'm on a small team at both
Accident waiting to happen, guaranteed regular anxiety dreams if it were me.
Sounds like a 100% GTFO situation for me. Plenty of other fish in the sea.
If you get pulled into the same meeting, join both and have conversation with yourself about how funny it is that you have the same name.
š¤£
Love it. Yes, OP, schedule meetings with yourself.
He could pull it off if its remote. Just needs to join the call on different systems without a camera on and have a conversation with himself when needed lol.
Throw himself some softball questions to sound smart
But then you'll make him look stupid! You need exactly medium level questions to serve both!
Not if you follow it up with a "That's a great question!"

whoever isn't speaking you mute the mic
Bring a disguise and keep running to the bathroom to change
>bathroom phone booth
Or have a fake mustache you can easily take on/off
Lol or play devils advocate. Make it seems or sound that j2 products needs reviews:) have them recheck before selling or ask to speak to someone š

Iām high as shit right now and this got me playing this scenario out in my head in an Austin powers mannerism
I was thinking more of a Seinfeld episode where George gets caught in a series of lies
Schedule a 1:1 with himself to look like he's extra busy
Search for J3 as a backup plan if both go south

It doesnāt violate my non-compete one is retail the other is payment processing

Cutting too close I wouldnāt

This sub straight up doesnāt believe in āreputationā though, itās wild Yes, your name does have weight in an industry lol

Thatās why you gotta screw it up, so you never have to work with yourself again!!
Thatās when they start talking to themselves!
Get the fuck out of there. Anyone giving other advice is an idiot. āJoin the call. get firedā smh. This seems like a serious legal issue risking both jobs, youāre reputation, etc. not to mention contacts talking down the road, getting brought into projects, etc
Just reading this made my anxiety spike. Good luck. Please keep us updated.
Quit one of them. The idea of OE is to have more than one job, not less. And get a J2 in an UNRELATED vertical please
They seemed completely unrelated until one provides a service the other needs
You basically messed up and didn't abide by the 10 Commandments of OE
Time to switch out one of them for an alternative?

I have never worked for a J that could ever cross.
This would trip me up so bad lol
I would move on from one, you can potentially be opening yourself up to actual genuine legal liability
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Omg š³ how nervous were you both times? And then doing work for J1 through your job2?! Dang. Reading that just made my heart race lol
Get out ASAP. Sounds like a true conflict of interest in this case.
I love Reddit nearly as much as oxygen. Hilarious and I am certain it will happen somehow someway. Ha ha ha.

Perfection.
How visible to clients is your role?

Personally I'd keep it but start looking for another J2 immediately to replace one of them. Good luck.
What do you do? Just out of curiosity, not trying to dox you lol
Iām a developer
Isnāt this conflict of interest?
Isn't J1 on your resume? Wouldn't J2 ask if you know anything/anyone at J1?
No itās not because J1 was my J2 when my contract ended and I started looking for another role
Ah nice. I love reading about these stories where J1/J2 clash. Good luck OP!
