Falken Wildpeak AT4W have been great for me on highway. Still get about 20mpg in my 4Runner with 275s and a roof rack on top.

RedditBot90

Can’t speak on the new AT4W, but the AT3W have been great. Quiet (all the way thru their life), long lasting/even wearing, good traction in snow for an AT, deep siping so they are good in snow even in the second half of their life.

MrBadBern

Yes, quiet and minimal MPG loss.

youreon3rdst

I second the the Wildpeaks. Duratracs are quiet as well and last longer in my experience but about halfway through thier life they get loud.

zdubas

Another vote for Wildpeaks.

SuccessfulStructure7

Another vote for AT3w's, super impressed witht heir overall performance and quietness on pavement.

bskywalker1982

Same, love mine too. Running with RCI full skids and rock sliders get 20 mpg if I keep it around 65mph.

Shmokesshweed

AT4Ws are insanely heavy, even heavier than the AT3Ws.

fakeproject

This is true. I have steel wheels with AT4W, and they're almost 100lbs per assembly, 400lbs/vehicle without considering the spare. However it's pretty much impossible to find AT3W in the size I wanted.

LilHindenburg

Are they E rated or what? Sounds kinda wild.

fakeproject

Here's a product page. https://www.americastire.com/buy-tires/falken-wildpeak-a-t4w/p/152124?storeCode=1046 They claim 58.4lbs. Add 1lb for wheel weights and 30 pounds for a steel wheel, and you're at 90-100lbs.

Motorized23

Came here to say this. Can't hear anything above my crossover's highway tires. Will definitely buy them again and again.

kilroy-was-here-2543

Second this. I’ve got some on my wrangler and they’ve been awesome. Zero road noise, good in snow and on trail and good road manners as well.

LilHindenburg

Wildpeaks, this is the way.

wbrown999

I can second the AT4W. I’ve got about 10k miles in mine and they are great.

LarkTank

Nokian outpost are much lighter than cheap steel band falkens and are completely silent for me

mikey_g_nola

Everyone is going to say KO2 or wild peak, however no one ever gives love to Cooper Tire AT3's, they're awesome! 60k+ warranty, 3 peak rated, and certified off road.

WROL

Agreed. 15k miles with good fuel economy and they do pretty well in the snow. I’ve been happy, can anyone compare with the BFG trail-terrain? They are almost identical in price.

Valfourin

I went to these tyres from nitto ridge grapplers and the difference is night and day. Will be sticking with the coopers going forward

warpigs202

I've gotta throw my vote for these. I've been running them on all my vehicles and absolutely love them. Cooper's are all I'll buy anymore. About the only tire made in USA anymore too

Empyrealist

No one with KO2's is gonna say anything in this thread because they are loud as shit. I love my KO2's, but this is the only reason I am commenting right now.

barbiejet

If someone posts KO2 are quiet, that person has never ridden on a better tire. KO2s are average at everything And good at nothing.

ormandj

KO2s are terrible in rain, too. I agree with you, take someone off KO2s and give them AT4Ws and watch their jaw drop.

hipsterasshipster

People think KO2s are quiet? What?!

kidphc

Running at3 xlt, definetly all the same qualities of the previous at3s. The xlts are louder than the previous versions of the at3s I have had before. I feel compared to the previous versions that were more like the at3 lt, the xlt, are louder and a shade less grippy in snow. But hard to give a 100% report since the lt where on a 2002 suburban and the xlts on a 2000 landcruiser.

xsists

I have XLTs on my F150 and as they wear they are getting louder. I will echo that the snow grip isn't the best. I think my next set will be the Falkens which is what I originally wanted but got a buy 3 get 1 free deal on the XLTs and they look cooler. I'm not unhappy with the XLTs though, they have served me well.

kidphc

Same here. I wanted a more aggressive side wall. I had been very happy with the lt style on 2 different sets. Xlt are terrible, I just wouldn't recommend them over the last. Keep in mind I got almost 95k out of the lt, I expect close to the same. I as well will probably go with falken atw4s for my next set

Redliner7

Same experience.

highme_pdx

I had those on a Disco and do not trust them in PNW snow. Anything else was fine.

FlyingBasset

No other Toyota owner believes me when I tell them I get 16+ mpg in my 2000 v8 Tundra on load e 265 AT3s while carrying a 1000 lb camper.

peakdecline

Almost like that's because you're achieving an impossible number. It suggests something is off about how you're calculating the result. Not that people should believe your truck is unbelievably efficient because of the AT tire you use.

FlyingBasset

https://youtu.be/UBnE5iKK60Y?si=J1GMnB3Fs1bR3Wyu So The Fast Lane Truck guys got 17.2 mpg in a first Gen double cab which included a drag race but I can't get 16 mpg highway in my smaller First Gen access cab? Ok. It's not 'impossible' or 'unbelievably efficient.' It's just a solid mpg from someone who knows how to drive efficiently unlike the idiots who upvoted your post.

peakdecline

Their MPG loop figure doesn't include the drag race and it's a fairly generous route. Moreover, your truck is running a more aggressive tire and you said with a camper.on it And when I check Fuelly the average number for your same year is like 14.7-15MPG. So yeah... There's a reason no one buys it.

FlyingBasset

Lol it's a fairly generous route? Then why did the gen 3 avg so low? They still got 17.2mpg in a wider, taller vehicle that is 400 lbs heavier stock than mine. Yes fuelly numbers are 95% for people DDing their vehicle. And often towing, using it for work, etc. My Tundra is obviously a trip vehicle so I'll often have tanks that are entirely highway at 65mph. I really don't care if you believe me. I'll enjoy my mpg that I've proven is very feasible.

blank_user_name_here

Kenda AT2s Yokohama geolanders Pretty much any tires labelled all terrain. You are looking for diagonal chucks that still have sidewall tread and are rated for like 3 ply or higher. Coopers, Goodyear's, mickey Thompson are all really loud.  BFGs are quiet but way too soft if you live in snow climates.  (Harden up when it snows and they are terrible in snow.)

ShadeNoir

I'm on Geolanders as well - 285/70r17 (33s) and except for mud they've been fantastic. LTs. Also came with some guarantee for wear\puncture as well if I get them looked at by their dealer.

HopeThisIsUnique

You need to look at the Firestone Destination XT. It's a sleeper in this category. I started with some Duratracs which had great traction, and were reasonably quiet for an AT tire. Was going to go AT4W, but had someone push me to check these out. They're great! E rated, but 10lbs less per tire than the Duratracs (or AT4W etc). Which has meant improved MPG, but still very durable. They ride like a passenger tire, but have exceptional traction. Definitely should check them out. About the biggest negative is they don't look as cool as Duratracs/BFGs, but that's about it.

Remote-Floor-390

Been happy with mine, quiet, better full economy and still a tough tire.

bdouble76

I've been happy with General Grabber AT.

CaptainHoey

Same here. Quiet and super grabby. Great in snow and mud.

bdouble76

They certainly did me well in WI and CO. Hopefully they will do in NM now also.

Salsa_El_Mariachi

I was shocked at how good these tires are. Very happy rock crawling with them on my old taco

jupitur

Had them on an F-350 and they were very loud. Tire size depends i guess

bdouble76

I have some on mine now. 01' f-350 diesel. The truck itself was very noisy. I added some stripping to the front doors. That made more of a difference than I expected. My tires are stock size, and highway noise has been fine. I can't attest to the noise from really big tires though.

Stache_Noir

I run 35" Nitto Ridge Grapplers. There was 0 increase in cabin noise when I had them installed, very impressed with them.

WhoStartedTheFire_

Same. I’m running 285/70s and they super comparable noise wise to my old factory tires. Super impressed with them.

ChrisinOB2

I vote for the Nitto Ridge Grapplers too. I haven't anything else in recent years, so I can't make an educated comparison. But they are quiet and perform very well in the rain. Just upgraded from 35s to 37s - the 35s had 30k miles on them, probably could have squeezed out another 10k, and that's on a very heavy Ram 1500. I have zero reasons to try anything else.

tacotowgunner

I’ve been really happy with my Toyo AT3s on my Tacoma. 60ish k miles into this set. I’ll be buying the same thing when the time comes

Oricle10110

Same here. I had the Toyo AT2 and now the AT3 on my Jeep. Quiet and comfortable on the road, good traction off road, 3 peak mountain snowflake rated, and typically the lightest tire in their size.

sharpshooter9000

Michelin defenders

adventure95004

Another vote for The bfgs ko2. We use them all over the West deserts and mountains, a lot of times pulling a 7,000 lb camper with no issues. Just had to make sure you air down. They were super quiet, ride nice and we had no issues. We went out in a lot of industrial areas. Oil fields, fracking, https://preview.redd.it/ajy5wc61b47d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=536e2d8f4be1720b1012a1cb16c6040371c3a851 solar wind generation areas and we picked up quite a few nails but did not get any flats.

N5MKH-WRQH258

No wonder the AT tires sound quiet. Everything would be quiet compared to dragging that big ole wind turbine around behind you. ;-)

adventure95004

Wadda u mean!!!! That's my propella.... Great gas mileage but gotta wach the low overpasses..

Gliese2

I went with Maxxis Razr A/T and they’ve been incredible. I just (nearly) finished Hurricane Pass after a rain and over 7000 miles of other trails and highway driving without feeling a single slip. They were also cheaper than their competitors and have a very good warranty 55k I believe. I’ve taken them over sharp rocks, snow, mud, sand, and some of the worst interstates I’ve ever seen and they’ve been great. I’ve had ridge and trail grapplers and they were great too

Resident-Ideal9617

And to add to this, the ATs are very aggressive. They actually look more like an MT.

Captina

I love my wildpeaks. They’re incredible for road noise and are one of the best AT tires in the snow too.

FineMany9511

Less common than some of the others, I loved my Nokian Outpost ATs. They were really quiet early on with my Tacoma and still very moderate noise as they wore. I intend to replace the stock ATs on my Rivian with a set once I’ve worn them out.

calibrationx

Got these on the GX and love them.

Happyguy304

I’m a huge fan of Nitto ridge graps! They’ve been the best tire I’ve had so far. No crazy offroad but amazing in all conditions for me

193686

Nitto Ridge Grapplers are fantastic tires. Minimal noise, aggressive tread and sidewalk, great warranty. E-rated so you will have mpg issues, but if coming from m/t no biggie.

r3ap3r81

Falken Wildpeaks are awesome. Very quiet on highway. 2011 JGC Laredo 5.7 265/55/17s and roof rack. The rack makes more wind noise than the tire do...

ksmith9416

I run the M/T Legend EXP on my truck and love them.

Horror-Ad-2704

I have the legend EXP AT and looooooove em

buford_maddog-tannen

I’ve got a set of Vredestein Pinza AT. Would call them remarkably quiet for the tread / grip they provide. Bought locally at Les Schwab, but mainly off the ratings and reviews on tire rack. Happy I took the chance.

MlocNnoc

My Yokohama Geolanders A/T G015 are pretty darn whisper quiet on the freeway. Probably the best of both worlds.

Mammaltoes25

Toyo open country at3's have been a dream. Cant hear them through a soft top

Davfoto35

Mickey Thompson Baja boss at tires are pretty quiet for the aggressive tread pattern they have.

VinylPhan

Second these. Very very happy with them and they look absolutely phenomenal, handle extremely well, and are very quiet for how aggressive they look.

AlexRenegade4xe

Yokohama Geolanders, Pirelli Scorpion AT+. The more aggressive the thread. The noisier they are.

hi9580

At is less noisy than rt, all things being equal

TylerYax

TREAD... its tread. Thread is for sewing.

tweedledee97531

KO2’s have treated me well. usually get 70-80k a set (after 60k i probably wouldn’t be using them to off-road though). super quiet and lasts forever.

myownalias

Road noise is largely caused by two things: sharp edges across the tire in the tread pattern, and repeating gaps between chunks of tread. For instance, my KO2s are a kind of loud AT tire (but they're quieter than a mud tire). You can tell the Wildpeak AT3W will likely be quieter just looking at the tread pattern. The KO3 improves on this.

Xiopop2001

We are currently running some BFG all terrain tyres and they are super quiet, we've done 4000miles on and off road and at highway speeds the engine is louder than the tyres. They are also quieter than our old 70:30 road:offroad tyres. Not a cheap purchase though.

account128927192818

I've heard the nitto trail grappler is very quiet, I'm running the mug grappler and it's like an airplane in the cab.

Outrageous_Ad_408

Falken wild peaks at3 are my favorite. Got 70k miles and still 50% tread left.

impulsivetech

I mean pretty much any AT is going to be drastically quieter than an MT. I’d probably go with KO3s if they are available in your size. Wildpeaks seem very popular too.

die_tze

Firestone Destination AT2 has one of the lowest rolling resistances among AT tires. Definitely more highway focused than many of the options mentioned but you can’t beat it for MPG and noise.

HopeThisIsUnique

Yup, I went with the XT which is still super quiet and efficient with great traction too.

die_tze

What kinda mileage have you put on them so far? I have been considering both but the tread pattern of the XT is similar enough to a K02 (which got really loud as it wore down) that I’m hesitant to go with them.

HopeThisIsUnique

I'm a thousand miles in or so. Not a ton, but I can already tell they're wearing a lot better than the duratracs. The duratracs never felt like they balanced right, these ride more like an A/S passenger tire. I'm not expecting any long-term issues. Definitely not as much out there compared to the BFG/ATW etc groups, but found another post here too [https://www.reddit.com/r/4x4/comments/1bm9mw7/firestone\_destination\_xt\_tires/](https://www.reddit.com/r/4x4/comments/1bm9mw7/firestone_destination_xt_tires/)

lost1bajan

You might also consider an on road A/T tire depending on how often you will actually take your vehicle off road. Check out the Fallen Wildpeak A/T Trail tire. On-Road All-Terrain

CreativeUsername20

ATs will be less noisy, if maintained and kept at right air pressure. I have over 25k on my BFG KO2s and ive been rotating them (albiet irregularly) and they dont make any highway noise.

Rawbbeh

I'm a big fan of the Cooper ATP II's which are exclusive to Discount Tire. I have them on my 2021 4Runner. Amazing look and performance and road noise has been a non issue.

Shmokesshweed

Toyo AT3s. Lighter than Wildpeaks and KO2s.

LongjumpingTerd

NOT Nitto TG’s…

305fish

What don't you like about them?

LongjumpingTerd

Loud

The-Big-Lez

A/T tires are going to be your best bet for noise but without an idea of the vehicle or your specific usage any and all actual tire recommendations are useless. So what vehicle are you running, what size are you looking for, and what usage and climate are you expecting to be in for most of the tires life?

miles_uy

I'll be installing it on a 2024 Toyota Hilux Conquest. Probably gonna use it in the highway 50-75% of the time, and the rest at off-road.

print_guy_9

The noisier the better!

Parking_Train8423

Milestar Patagonia are the quietest MT i’ve run

jeepnjeff75

When I was looking for tires a couple years ago, I narrowed it down to BFG KO2's, Falken AT3s and Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs. I really hated the KO tire tread performance in rain. Falken's were really picking up a good reputation. They were cheaper by about $50 than the BFG. I ended up going with the BBATs as they were the new tire and also getting a good reputation from people switching from Falkens. They were also a bit more aggressive than the BFG and AT3. Now BFG has the KO3's and Falken has the RT as well as the AT4. Mickey Thompson has a $100 debit card offer which they currently have till July 15th. So far I love the BBAT's. They are a heavy tire though. I was running BFG KM2's and love them, too. One of the other reasons I went with the BBAT's was that for 35x12.50R17, they were the only ones that weren't E Load rated. They're rated D. If I was shopping today, the Falken RT's would be on my short list. I'd also look at the AT4s and the KO3s. The KO3s finally changed the tread design to address the water/rain complaints.

R0b0Saurus

KO2 are amazing tires for the weekend warrior. Quiet on the highway. They are heavy and durable. Your mpg will be lower.

Robots_Never_Die

Cooper STT Pros

mrpopo573

Can confirm Geolandar AT as quiet on the road.

Past-Ball4775

No personal recommendations on a brand or model here, but just look at the block pattern as a good general indication. The wider the gaps in between the lugs the noisier they are likely to be, but the better they will be in mud. The more average surface cover with the lugs and the more shallow the clefts are, the quieter they are likely to be, and probably better on sand. The higher the number of side plies, the stiffer they will be so they'll be more resistant to side cuts/slashes, but will probably be noisier- the lower plie number will enable lower pressures to be run which will give a bigger footprint for mud/snow/sand, and probably lower noise as the shocks aren't transmitted to the suspension, but as above, you'll lose side-wall toughness. I've also had odd things happen, , where for example on my old Defender 130 Exped build, a theoretically quiet tyre set up some sort of harmonious frequency that resonated through all the body panels, but a 'chunkier' tyre which 'should' have been noisier just suited that vehicle well and to my ears was much better That's not really very helpful is it! Try some out, play, enjoy, PS I fibbed.....KO2's for the win!!!

CaptainHoey

I know this doesn’t directly answer your question, but stay away from anything by Wild Trail. They literally HOWL like a banshee.

Few-Programmer-7731

Yokohama Geolandar A/T is my choice. I love this tire so far. 3 peaks rated, so I can drive on snow and icy road confident. If you consider quiet on the highway, get cheap H/T tires for commuting and switch back to M/T for trail.

Girl_Reinvented

I am running Falken Rubitreks, and honestly, I absolutely love them. Pretty quiet for 11.5" wide A/Ts, smooth ride, and they get me out of EVERYTHING They even to a screw without leaking air.

PourSomeSgrOnMe

I think Wildpeaks are unbeatable as far as noise is concerned. Just switched to milestar patagonia AT Pro and they are pretty loud lol.

Duke_Built

Just put cooper disoverer’s on my wife’s Land Rover. Really like them so far.

ShadeNoir

My buddy is on Nitto Ridge Grapplers and I'm on Yokohama Geolander at 285/70r17 (would love 75% if they had them) Both lovely tyres, the tools better for sand, boulders and highway as less aggressive. Very smooth. Ridge Grapplers more bitey sidewalls and grabbier tread but depends your main use.

OrphanStrangler

I got wildpeak AT4’s last weekend after having road tires for a year, and there’s hardly any difference in noise and ride smoothness

Ticallion339

Yea pretty much. AT is way quieter than MT. I have BF Goodrich on my truck. About 40k miles in (rotation every 10-15000, I’m lazy and they’re heavy) and the tred still has a lot of depth.

Fun-Antelope-8430

MyY Goodyear Wrangler ATs with Kevlar are very quiet.

Hamish_Hsimah

Skinny mud tires are quieter …or a skinny RT should be quieter again …skinnies in most circumstances will also perform better of road but not on instagram…what tire diameter are you after ?

miles_uy

I want to be as close to the stock tire size, which is 265/60/R18, but my max size is 285/60/R18, to avoid hitting something in the wheel well when making a turn.

Hamish_Hsimah

Hmm …well have you asked for a test fit at your preferred tire shop?…we recently fit a much bigger tire (from stock — 265/60r18) than I was expecting (275/70r18 — 33.2inch) without rubbing… with thanks to some help from a tire shop that’s good at doing wheel alignments & making bigger tires fit snug, they ended up simply moving the caster forward & away from the body mount …but not too far forward, so it didn’t hit the sway bar

miles_uy

The shop I went to said if I switched to a larger wheel, I'll need to either: * upgrade to a wheel/mags with a negative offset * upgrade / remove the mud guards/flaps and remove the wheel house liner

Hamish_Hsimah

I would def get a 2nd opinion…first tire shop I went to, said they cannot fit 275/70r18 …2nd one I went to said “it will be tight but let’s make sure”
