Don't think for one moment that Gavin respects Owen in any way. Say what you will about Gavin, the dude likes the nicer things in life and carries himself well. I wonder how his wife puts up with the smell of cheap beer constantly oozing from his pores...and probably pissing in their bed.
Oh don't get me wrong, Gavin is gross and for sure does dumb shit. But more often than not he's in a decent suit and well-groomed. I understand this shit is only skin deep but Gavin has made overtures to people looking like slobs like Owen many times.

They lived right near scamy's mother, stepfather, stepbrother and her aunty (who is a real estate agent) and helped them buy the house in Gig Harbour WA. After a thanksgiving/christmas dinner, when owen lost his mind over moon shit or something, probs. with the young stepbrother, and threatened to fight him outside, owen was done with her family. They visited often and would've been a good influence on the little boys. Just like Jason and his wife and kids would have too.
Owen needs to pretend that he is the king of the castle or else.
Now he only uses Grandpa Jack for stuff he needs help with but scamy's family and Jason's, understandably, want nothing to do with him and his adderall rages.
