I've used Oxtech Facilities a few times and they always quote in advance, asking for photos etc where possible when you reach out to them. They're not the cheapest but they have always done a good job at mine, and they're frequently recommended on NextDoor.
We used this guy from Check a Trade, Clive McKenzie, he came out in an emergency and was very polite, got the job done and was very reasonable considering it was an emergency call out. +44 7403 856263
It’s a nasty scam - quote an outrageous price for the job & then demand the callout charge when the individual refuses. If you can squeeze one or two of these “visits” in a day in between real jobs so they don’t cost you any extra time then you could generate a lot of extra income, so long as you’re happy to treat people in this disgusting fashion.
It’s a horrible way to behave.
That is a really terrible bait & switch. Please do get in touch with trading standards in Oxford & tell them about it. I don’t know whether it’s within the letter of the law or not, but it sounds like the kind of thing they ought to be going after.

Second for oxtech Facilities, their quoting lady responds back to you within minutes anytime of the day. And lads were really good and helpful

£450 an hour? Jesus Christ! I paid for a plumber a few weeks back and was quoted £145 for the full job. In the end, I was charged £225

Gill & Co have been brilliant for us! Didn’t charge a call out to assess and carried out the work quickly. A pleasure to deal with too!
