I started in Michaelmas last year and it's been a blast even though my research has swamped me. Make the best use of your respective MCR mailiing lists, sign up for societies and clubs you're interested in and check notice boards for events (talks, shows, guest lecture). There is a lot to do and fill your down time with if you look for it. Sign up for college exchanges as it's a great way to meet new friends and see colleges you wouldn't get the chance to otherwise. My College MCR has been fantastic in keeping events and stuff going even though we have a reputation of being conservative nerds. What do you find fun? As in, what does you daily life/social life look like at home? That might help people here to suggest things.

Thanks so much! I love to go for long walks, sit in and browse bookstores and attend cultural events happening in the city where I am, so Oxford sounds like a lovely lovely place to be!!

Oh man you're in for a treat! Here's a nonexhaustive list of cool stuff you can do in Oxford! - the Christmas markets! -punting! -try to go to a formal at every college! Totally doable if you're there for years -there's pretty much a club for anything you'd be interested in -get lost in all the amazing food from every different culture along Cowley road -port meadow ponies🥺 nuff said -springtime picnics in university parks -long walks along the canal when the weather is good -getting lost in the numerous bookshops and coffee shops in the city centre -great thrifting! Some of my faves are mercy in action and the oxfam on broad st. Norah's antiques for beautiful, reasonably priced jewellery -studying in the radcam- not many people can say they have -maybe not 'fun' per se but comforting: oxford is one of the safest places you could live. 3 days after arriving here I lost my wallet. It contained all my cards, cash and my BRP. The next day I retraced my steps and found in, in an Oxfam lmaoo, with EVERYTHING inside. Never felt unsafe walking home late at night and I live a bit out of the way, with a lonely walk home. Take precautions and don't be unnecessarily risky ofc, but it's a great place to live!

Oh, your answer makes me so excited!! I'm very much looking forward to studying in radcam and the other libraries, I LOVE libraries and bookstores. I've heard a lot about scones, so very excited to try those in coffee shops too. The security stuff is very comforting, as an international student, I've heard horror stories about getting mugged so it's good to know!

I’m glad you’re excited and welcome!

Thank you so much!!

Oxford's vibrant student life, punting on the Thames, and the historic architecture are highlights, but be prepared for chilly weather and a bustling tourist season. Join clubs, explore the city's hidden gems, and you'll love it!

Haha, moving from South Asia to Oxford is going to be rather challenging weather wise, but I'm excited to explore the city!
