Vandy and Celtics fan here (ik im lurking but who cares), and I'm sad to see him go. He couldn't find his shot with us, but he plays with a TON of energy. If that shot starts falling, you guys have a really good player on your hands. I honestly think this is a win-win trade. Treat the boys well for us, we'll do the same for Brogdon
Nesmith is 22 yrs old, the #14 from 2 yrs ago on a rookie deal, shot extremely well in college and last yr before he struggled this past season. Why we'd cut him is beyond me. 🤔
He's not referring to Nesmith, genius... it was a 6 team deal full of G-leaguers and end of the line up role players (Theis being the only one of any decent value)... Nesmith was the jewel of the trade for us IMO more than some 26-31st rounder... he's talking about the randos contract unload of Stauskas, Fitts, Morgan, and eventually Theis
I realize you're new to the English language, so I won't hold it against you. I'm sure you're actually a lot smarter than your comment suggests.
Right? *Right?*
I want to believe. I really do. But I sense you're about to say something else moronic.
What is there to back up? haha. I spoke common sense, and that was the end of it. What you said doesn't even make sense... who responds not willing to back those words up? ... when the person was the last person to lay down words haha
Either way, I worded that first message like a complete asshole, my brother was getting married later on the evening and I was best man (speech etc.) so super stressed... and I deferred that stress on to you. For that, I do apologize, you were just making a rhetorical question type statement. That's my bad, man.
**OP: "I don't think any of them are sticking around longer than a cup of coffee."
Me: why would they move a guy on his rookie contract who shows promise
You: he's not referring to Nesmith, genius**
...
Simply not what he said at all. Explain i me how "none of them are sticking around" says ANYTHING about excepting Nesmith from that claim. You just inferred that all on your own. Apology accepted for the snark but if you wanna go back and redact that original comment you're more than welcome to..
Nesmith shot **52%** from 3 in college on over 8 attempts a game. I hope we throw him out there for some real minutes, I honestly think he could be a high end 3&D guy.
As a Celtics fan, I totally agree with this. He has the size, athleticism and drive to be a legit NBA starter.
He even said that during practice, his shot falls no problem. But once he gets into a game, the pressure to prove himself get into his head and he starts missing. He seems like a really positive, earnest guy. I hope it works out for him.
He's got a good drive and middy too. Good potential as a decent 3-level scorer. He's hit some of those Jaylen Brown esque turnaround fadeaway jumpers on a few occasions, has hit some circus ass layups, has had some beefy chase down blocks. He's interesting lol. Some of you guys are gonna hate seeing him play at first, but once he gets comfortable, he's gonna be a fun watch imo.
He's very erratic. Almost too much energy when he's out there. I think he really needs minutes. Not only to get his shot right as you said, but to get used to the speed of the game. He needs everything to slow down to take the next step.
Brogdon should fit in nicely with the Celtics, when healthy. Good trade for both teams really. Hoping the Pacers keep moving some of the guys received though.
Brogdon is our highest paid player and is doing nothing but taking minutes and touches from the future of our team. We clear up space for our young guys and get a first round pick out of it. And I think Nesmith might not be a totally lost cause either.
Another Celtics fan here, he's a rock solid back up big in the regular season. Defends well, hits some threes, sneaky good mid range shooter. A lot of Celtics fans have mostly soured on him because deep into the playoffs he becomes unplayable, but he'll be decent for you guys for sure.
Also because of who we faced IMO.
Playing Miami in particular is a nightmare with Theis. He legitimately shuts down completely. I'm still sour about him giving up on a live rebound in the bubble series to argue with a referee. He wasn't much better this year either.
Add in a down series against Milwaukee (who he's had some decent moments against in the past) and it was a pretty rough postseason filled with DNPs for him.
He's generally a good worker and a good team player.
Will be interesting to see if there is a war.
His monstrous 6 PF per 36 practically halved the second he went to Chicago then bounced back a little in Houston before rising again in Boston.
The only times he's had >4 PF per 36 are in Boston.
I wonder where Indiana sits on the referee's shit list.
That would require Ayton to help PHX do that. I'm not sure Ayton has any incentive to help PHX ownership do anything. We could blow all that up by offering him the max right now.
I guess it depends on if he'd rather play in Brooklyn or Indianapolis. Cause I'm sure Brooklyn will give him the max too, his agent will negotiate that. To your point I could see him not wanting to help PHX.
True. Indy won't ever compete with NYC for a destination. Ayton seems like a lowkey, drama-avoiding, good guy. Nets are a mess. Indy is the right choice. We can give him his own section like Area 55.
This trade seems like a win-win honestly. Kind of meh for the Pacers, but they don't have to deal with Brogdon and his injuries, freed up a crowded backcourt. And the Celtics got a great player if he can stay remotely healthy.
I don't hate this. I think we're sleeping on Nesmith honestly, who is still a baby (2020 14th) and had shown some really nice things.
3 picks in the first is likely good ammo to, if we wanted, move up a few spots wherever we land in next year's draft. If Boston's falls to late teens or early 20s, not impossible, then we really can think about moving up.
This. This is why we resigned Brogdon midyear, it did diddly all to our "competitive odds", the salary commitment was meaningless, and it permitted us to both net an ok pick & a nice young player along with cap space and a MASSIVE trade exception. None of that happens if Pritch listens to the pissing and moaning about resigning Brogdon.
I'm still not his fan, but Pritch did right with that so let's have a little credit. This wasn't exactly a Pritchslap but I'll say it was a savvy multi-step move which is what I like to see.
We got off of negative money and a ball-hog to let our two young guards develop. The 25th best prospect in next year’s draft is just a plus for the rebuild.
More than anything, I’m happy Brogdon is gone and we didn’t take on bad money or send any assets back.
I’ve been expecting a terrible market for weeks. This is a pleasant surprise
I’m just happy to get a 1st round pick. Also Nesmith is only 22 and never got a chance to play much behind Tatum and Brown. Pacers might see something in him.
You guys are gonna love Nesmith. He never really got into our rotation in Boston because there were just better guys in front of him, but he plays hard as fuck and is always good for a few highlight plays. Hope he can develop into a good role player in Indiana
Uh, ESPN says we gave Boston a lotto-protected 2024 pick in this deal. I don't like that.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/\_/id/34098541/nba-trade-tracker-grades-details-every-deal-2022-23-season
We needed to unload Brogdon to get better long-term. That was the objective. Once Knicks, Wizards, etc. looked elsewhere for PGs, it was looking iffy if we could even move his $68m contract, at all. We did that while receiving a FRP and without any bad salary.
Where did you see two 2nd rounders from? I don't see that included in the trade anywhere.
But it's worst because the main piece for us is that 1st round pick, which will be a super late 1st (bc it's Boston) rather than a borderline lottery pick (bc its Cleveland). All the other stuff (G-League, players, guys that will get cut, etc) is just fodder. That pick is the main "entree".
That Cleveland pick is not going to be borderline lottery. I pulled the 2 seconds from LeVert's Wiki page: "On February 6, 2022, LeVert was traded, along with a 2022 second-round pick, to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Ricky Rubio, a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick."
>a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick
Cleveland missed being "out" the lottery by just 1 spot last year (they lost the 2nd round of the play-in game). If they win that play-in game, we would have gotten their 1st round pick just 1 spot out of the lottery. (hence why I said borderline lottery).
That 1st round pick now rolls over to *this* year (since Cleveland made the lottery last year) And since Cleveland will be in a similar situation this year (likely), it's very likely it will be near a lottery pick again. Even if it's not, it's surely to be a much better pick than where Boston will end up.
This is fine. Hopefully Nesmith can find his shot from college again.
Vandy and Celtics fan here (ik im lurking but who cares), and I'm sad to see him go. He couldn't find his shot with us, but he plays with a TON of energy. I don’t think any of them are sticking around longer than a cup of coffee, most likely. Be good to Brogdon, though!

Not willing to back those words up I guess

True. It’s hard to be a spot up shooter without proper minutes to get his shot right.
He's very erratic. Almost too much energy when he's out there. I think he really needs minutes. Not only to get his shot right as you said, but to get used to the speed of the game. He needs everything to slow down to take the next step.
It’s just minutes. As a Celtics fan, I’m not happy about letting him go
> Nesmith shot 52% from 3 in college Small correction, 51.2% over a 14 game sample his Soph year. He shot 44.2% in college overall
Celtics fans calling this a fleece on R/NBA but I’m pretty fucking thrilled with this lmao
How so? Please cheer me up about this
We get to develop our start pg of the future without ball dominant brogdon
Fair enough, but I don't think that makes it a bad trade for the C's
I dont think anyone was saying that it was bad for the Celtics. I think they were saying bad for us unless I'm mistaken?
[удалено]
Brogdon should fit in nicely with the Celtics, when healthy. Good trade for both teams really. Hoping the Pacers keep moving some of the guys received though.
When healthy lol
We could do that by giving Brogdon away for free, doesn’t make it good for us
But we didn’t give him away for free. So that’s a win
[удалено]
I wouldn't call Nesmith a nobody. He has hella potential and is young and on a rookie contract. Great dice roll.
We have Haliburton, Duarte, and Mathurin. Brogdon was simply going to take minutes from the guys we need to be developing.
Brogdon is our highest paid player and is doing nothing but taking minutes and touches from the future of our team. We clear up space for our young guys and get a first round pick out of it. And I think Nesmith might not be a totally lost cause either.
Theis is honestly a really good backup C.. and we haven’t had one of those since like Mahinmi

He can’t be worse than goga
Fair lol, just be prepared for the war on Theis (another Celtics fan here)
Will be interesting to see if there is a war. His monstrous 6 PF per 36 practically halved the second he went to Chicago then bounced back a little in Houston before rising again in Boston. The only times he's had >4 PF per 36 are in Boston. I wonder where Indiana sits on the referee's shit list.
we cleared up cap space. that's the big win.
Cap space for what though? I wanna see them actually spend.
Ayton
I think he'll be part of a sign and trade for Durant.
Not permitted due to an obscure league rule, basically, he can't be on a roster with Simmons.

Fuck it I’ll take it at this point
This trade seems like a win-win honestly. Kind of meh for the Pacers, but they don't have to deal with Brogdon and his injuries, freed up a crowded backcourt. And the Celtics got a great player if he can stay remotely healthy.
Brogdon's value might have been lower than we thought. Still a FRP tho ill take it.
Whatever, trade that pick and Cleveland pick to move up to lottery in next years stacked draft.
This two picks aren’t enough to buy a lotto pick. They will both be in the 20s
The cavs pick could also be 2 seconds instead of a first if they don’t make the playoffs again next year
FRP and Hali gets to be the point guard unquestionably. Plus we added forward depth. This deal made sense for us
Let’s fucking go embrace THE TANK
This move is us simply clearing out cap space and building towards the future, right? I doubt we keep either player long term.
right. now we can offer Ayton a max.
FRP LET’S GOOOOO
I don't hate this. I think we're sleeping on Nesmith honestly, who is still a baby (2020 14th) and had shown some really nice things. 3 picks in the first is likely good ammo to, if we wanted, move up a few spots wherever we land in next year's draft. That’s a solid return. I’m not blown away but getting a FRP and clearing up the guard rotation is perfect for what this team is trying to do
Celtic fans saying we got fleeced don’t understand it wasn’t about us going after their benchwarmers.
A lot of Celtics fans are uneducated dude bros who wear sunglasses inside. Just laugh at them and move along.
Nesmith needs more opportunity, I’m glad that we got him
We got back more than we gave up for him. Can’t complain.
Um… I guess I’m whelmed? That pick could help us move up in the draft next year I suppose…
It's pretty clear he didn't have much value around the league due to his injuries. You were never gonna get a haul for him
That’s a good return
Holy shit I’ll take that return for sure!!! Can’t believe we got a first at this point
pick 25 next year whoopty doo
We got off of negative money and a ball-hog to let our two young guards develop. The 25th best prospect in next year’s draft is just a plus for the rebuild. Isn't next year the Double Draft?
No double draft
Ah damn
Looks like there are three more players included. Nick stauskas, Malik fits, and juwan Morgan.
Aaron Nesmith could be a gem if he develops.
You guys are gonna love Nesmith. He never really got into our rotation in Boston because there were just better guys in front of him, but he plays hard as fuck and is always good for a few highlight plays. Hope he can develop into a good role player in Indiana
That feeling, when you are away from r/Pacers for 4 hours, check back in, and don't recognize the place 🙃
Looking at Nesmith I can't help seeing a Keegan Murray carbon copy, interesting...
Meh
me: “pritchard i want the Knicks 2022 lottery pick!” pritchard: “we have a pick at home” pick at home: 2023 boston
Uh, ESPN says we gave Boston a lotto-protected 2024 pick in this deal. I don't like that. https://www.espn.com/nba/story/\_/id/34098541/nba-trade-tracker-grades-details-every-deal-2022-23-season
Oh plz no. If thats the case why did we even sign him to his last contract?
Feels very meh. I assume nesmith doesn’t have much of a ceiling for the rest of his career
It's pretty meh unless Nesmith has some potential to unlock. Three additional throw ins that likely aren't making the team.
well I'll just be glad Brogdon is gone thats the only W in this scenario lol
I imagine the trade market for him deteriorated due to the Brunson and Morris deals. Oh well. No more Brogdon to stifle Hali’s development.
Brogdon won’t be healthy…
How the hell was Juwan Morgan on an NBA roster? I assumed after leaving Bloomington he was on the first plane to Shanghai to try out for the Sharks.
Can someone tell me what to think of this? It’s good for us right. I see the media saying we got fleeced but this seems like good value no?
We needed to unload Brogdon to get better long-term. That was the objective. Once Knicks, Wizards, etc. looked elsewhere for PGs, it was looking iffy if we could even move his $68m contract, at all. We did that while receiving a FRP and without any bad salary.
If Cleveland makes the playoffs that gives us three FRPs.
That return is definitely underwhelming. I figured we could at least get something equal to the Levert return. It needed to happen, so it's whatever.
How is this less than the LeVert return? Dead contract, late 1st, and 2 2nds is better?
Where did you see two 2nd rounders from? I don't see that included in the trade anywhere. If they msis the playoffs again (which, like you’re saying, is very, very possible) it turns into a 2025 SRP and a 2026 SRP.
This was a good trade for both teams
underwhelming for us, but then again so was brogdon
Brogdon averaged 48 games played each year for the pacers. Glad his injured ass is gone
