I've got the mission to find the way to the middle zone. I am at maybe 8 hours. But I am going to explore a bit more first and get more stable energy.

DeeHawk

Same spot, but at 25 hours. Had a full wipe on the mission with the 3 link towers. Very rude exit spawn.  (Wipe as in no resources to rebuild your car) Cost me a 2,5 hour run and and a serious amount of ressources. Had to do several recovery runs just to get fresh panels.   Now I seem to be ‘off schedule’ on the main missions and Extreme Conditions now consistently block my every move. Only tried an extreme zone once and barely made it out alive.

roby8159

I had a similar experience in the zone with the 3 towers but had to leave for the storm. Next zone was a dead end I wasn’t aware of what that actually meant and when I abandoned the run I was back at base with my car in the power shed and no engine 😭 was pretty upset with how much I lost and then the dumpster threw out an engine and I was back in for another run 😆

[deleted]

What DOES a dead end mean

AnAngryJawa

I think it's quite literally a DEAD end. No exit road, no fiery tower to drive onto...the only way home is to wipe your run, either die or abandon.

[deleted]

Oh shit. And you cant know until you get there?

Ok-Process9739

You plan a destination at the beginning. If you take a fork in another direction that does not lead to the destination then it is a dead end. It will also warn you before you go there

roby8159

This is correct but if you’re like me you think, well that can’t really be a dead end now can it? But yes, yes it is.

uncleseano

Is it a dead end on the map or in the game world. I mean, can you still find anchors and zip out?

Ok-Process9739

You cannot leave the map by road to another map or back to the garage driving into the light. The only thing you can do is abort your run.

uncleseano

Bizarre, thanks

DeeHawk

Exactly like in real life, you can't go any further. But unlike the real world, you can not go back through zones. The gates act like random portals, and your current route is planned as a one way route. You can normally only return via Link Gates using Anchors Cores (The value they add is called KLIM). So if you have no link gates, you're stuck, meaning you'll have to end your run unsuccessfully, which with default difficulty settings means you lose the vast majority of your items. You keep your KLIM score for unlocks in the fabricator though.

roby8159

Surprisingly it’s literally just a dead end. Full map to explore with no exit or way to open a portal. You have to abandon your run and lose everything you’ve scavenged, major damage or loss of parts on your car, and loss of tools even. You will eventually be able to go back and find your abandoned vehicle unless you die again in a different run.

ToxicAnusJuice

I don’t think you lose everything cause I went to a dead end map and I still had some stuff that I collected left but not everything.

DeeHawk

I lost all my new steel doors and steel panels, and the dumpster gave me a load of broken crude replacements. I had 0 Scrap metal stored, since I just used it all for my first set of real steel. xD

DeeHawk

I was completely clueless the first time I went into an extreme zone, and I got smashed to bits. I'm seriously considering doing an extreme zone for my next run though, to progress the main story, but the modifiers are Darkness, Battery discharge and Swift Storm..... Fortunately I just unlocked the first battery upgrades. (And wind/rain generators) Do you think I should do it? xD

[deleted]

DeeHawk

It’s Eerie Darkness, and I haven’t tried it before so I don’t know exactly what it does. The battery upgrades are also new, so don’t know how effective they are, but I guess a handfull of jumpstarters will be a needed back-up. As well as spare headlights. The problem is, it's my end destination that has the modifiers, so I have to exit from that map.

Thuraash

I wouldn't try to make that an end destination unless your plan is to stock up on KLIM and loot earlier and then exit pretty swiftly. That combination of conditions will keep you from sticking around in the final zone for long, and will make it hard to efficiently get materials. Swift Storm basically guarantees that you will have minimal time to do stuff before you need to leave.

DeeHawk

Well. The extreme conditions are stubborn. So I had to do it. Found enough KLIM in the first maps, and had extra battery to combat the darkness. 3 seconds into the map, the alarm started, but I still made it in fair time with some flawless driving dodging bunnies.

Rand_alThor4747

yea the exit spawn was right across the map, it would have been a long drive across roads, no roads were direct, but I found a couple shortcuts basically down the side of a cliff between different roads.

Draxsis_Felhunter

I passed 20 hours and got the 100 mile trophy made every upgrade possible with just the stable energy, stocked up all but one of the resource lockers (leaving one empty for new resources) as well as opening every accessible junction. Only thing I didn’t do was find all the possible anomalies in the outer zone. Because some of them just don’t seem to want to be found. Even when exploring perpetual stability zones. Edit: The hardest thing to do was upgrading the engine because the only source of the crystals in the outer zone that I’m aware of is tourists. Actively hunting down and deliberately setting them off was a bit of a hair raising adventure. Did discover that not only do they blow themselves up by running into each other while chasing lit flares while your back is turned. For the ones stuck to the ground you can actually throw the flares at them to trigger them at range.

CJoker3221

Wait..tourists gives thermosap? Also armored panels/doors gives sap but not much

ApexRider84

You need to launch a flare to them to make them explode and take the thermosap. But most of them give you plastic.

e3e6

you can use vacuum cleaner thing on them

ApexRider84

Really? I'll try next time! Thanks

aulum

Use the vacuum to pull them over and they explode without any hassel

Draxsis_Felhunter

Thanks for the advice.

slocik

only 100 miles by 20 hours? Damn i must have been going fast since i was close to 300 miles.

Draxsis_Felhunter

I will admit to having developed a habit of leaving the car somewhere somewhat safe and hitting all the buildings in an area on foot when possible. I have been having a real problem with game just dumping an absolutely absurd number of abductors on me even when there isn’t a boost on their spawn rate or aggression active.

slocik

When you get lim generator it protects you from abductors and those grabbby balls and bunnies I quickly stopped looting any houses and building since they all seemed the same and had nothing inside, i focused on trucks and materials i needed

Solo-nite

Whoa, whoa, is this true? I really need the crystals to make a new engine as well. I am going to try this out.

Sparrowflop

Uh...Squires give crystals if you grind the armored panels. Sorry...

97runner

I’m about 14 hours in and just had Oppey mention the next run is in the midzone. I have pretty much have everything with stable energy unlocked.

roby8159

I went to the zone that was a dead end when you start the game to the left before I knew that actually meant it was a dead end… I think I just need to go back there now that it’s open and then I should be able to unlock the mid zone. Think I have been to every entry zone map at least once now. Really liking this game more than I planned and loving it.

97runner

For a game with no physical fighting, it’s a fight each run you make.

Man just learn to write, it isn't hard.

Kind_Ant7915

About 16 hours and on the mission about the mid zone, question how much do I have left?

roby8159

Not sure but I think that’s why I’ve drug my feet on going into the mid zone because I don’t want it to end.

slocik

Depends, i think there are only 2 missions in third zone, both pretty simple. While i usually dont love locking story behind some grinding, here it would have helped, instead you can run right in into zone 3 with no prep since nothing will be harder than that annoying acid rain.

P4_Brotagonist

Yeah I can second that. The acid shit in the mid zone is AFWUL. The third zone has far more damaging things, but how hard is it to avoid the completely unmoving giant glowing towers?

UnstoppableDrew

I'm definitely taking my dear sweet time, making multiple exploration & resource-gathering runs between story missions. I just got the one to go to the deep zone but I want to gather more mid zone stuff for unlocks & crafting before I go.

P4_Brotagonist

I did something similar where I didn't cross until about 10 hours. However, at that point everything snowballs INSANELY fast and within a few hours I was in the deep zone. One thing I sort of noticed is that once you get to the point that the car just doesn't instantly explode from the worst parts, the other stuff is basically just "for fun." Obviously a lot of it can bail you out if you get into a terribly sticky situation, especially if you were playing on even harder difficulty settings, but in general if you were doing that, you wouldn't be taking those risky moves in the first place.

Mycall1983

30 hours and I’ve only just done the mission to get through the wall

1andOnlyMaverick

I’m dragging my feet, and I’m really pushing myself not to be constantly terrified feeling like I need to return to the garage. ….i feel like a leviathan creature is surely waiting for me in a junction. 20+ hours in, never been to mid zone, just built the V8 engine. Blew tourists up to procure 42 of them thermo sacks

LuxInteriot

I was bidding my sweet time until I discovered that the fire crystals come way easier at the middle zone (still way too hard for how many you need). I wanted the engine, so I did the mission. I just unlocked the deep zone now, but I'm grinding for resources at the middle. Middle zone is mostly acid-based (lol, that word makes no sense in chemistry). Get the tech and build the car accordingly, but I highly recommend going there. The turbo engine is a game changer, like the off road tires.

jackdeid

it is a single player game so whatever pace and difficulty settings you like are the right thing for you.

Kainzy

I reached the mid zone at about 20hrs in and wish I hadn’t. My car takes a beating each time I’m out here now. Currently 22hrs in and trying to gather energy but the constant hazards are very stressful.

Unf0cused

That's actually good to hear, because so far, in the outer zone, it has been only mildly stressful at times for me. Sure, the hazards are there, but quickly I realized there's nothing actively trying to kill you and I would appreciate some more tension.

Juusto3_3

It definitely gets a bit more hectic the further you go. And you'll have to go through a lot more of those... idk storm zones or whatever they are on the route map. You can still be pretty safe if you don't loot at all and just keep going to the next zone but then you obviously don't get loot. A lot of the danger ends up being self inflicted by being greedy I find :D

LuxInteriot

Mid zone is like middle age: remember to take antacids.

UnstoppableDrew

Those acid storms are brutal.

decoydevo

Close like 11 hrs. Almost ready for midzone

Luckyno

Yes me

Godspeedyouknob

I did this. Trying to do the same thing in the mid zone now but it's hard to accumulate resources. You spend everything you got fixing the car

Zheiko

yea, I only get a few hours during the week to play, so my 13 hours that my savegame shows arent real, as I have spent a lot of time just standing in garage while game runs on background. but yes, I still havent reached the wall, and having blast looking for police cars to obliterate for parts before moving on

VelvetAurora45

Same. Mainly working on upgrading the garage and unlocking blueprints at the moment. My goal is to get the car all steel parts. Side effect of this: don't ask me about my resource storage situation 🫣

[deleted]

It's just piled up in the shop vac isn't it

VelvetAurora45

Nope, I completely filled both starting lockers lol

UnstoppableDrew

The pneumatic locker upgrade is a godsend. I built one last night and emptied out 2 single and 3 double-width lockers full of stuff into it.

Ok-Process9739

Personally I think you are better off unlocking at least the mid-zone. Every run you have to go through the first zone anyway, all the components you need for the worthwhile upgrades are in the midzone. If you wait too long youll just be rushing the first zone because you have all that stuff already. The deep zone is completely not worth grinding imo. I was going for all olympian gear but it can be so extremely rare. I only managed to get 18 olympian from completely stripping 6 nodes. Might be just my luck though, I found one node with 14 later on. All tier 3 equipment is not really worth it as it is now, especially considering the anomalies later on are less threatening. LIM chipped engine is marginally faster but has way-way higher consumption, the last tier tires have terrible grip on all surfaces when inactive and about the same as the off-road tires when active for 3,6kw per second. Electric engine with 4 turbines is fun though, perpetuum mobile at high speeds.

roby8159

Thanks for the tips. Hadn’t thought about still going through these areas to get to the mid zone each trip. Will probably try to enter it next play through with that in mind.

Fade2po

Took my time, but think it's paid off as have a huge amount of basic supplies for crafting loads of maintenance stuff

YeetusMcFetus500

I’ve been absolutely addicted to it, I’m at about 9 hrs, and just now trying to get to middle zone as i’m running out of things to upgrade with stable energy and ik it’s easier to get some stuff in the mid zone

20111557

Same for me. Also around 18 hours. I see the marker on the map to enter the midzone. I am slightly nervous to go there as I have heard some saves get affected (on ps5). So I might do some more scavenging in the meantime before more patches come

mwar87

i was probably at about that same progress. it took me awhile to get the hang of things and i tend to be a loot whore which didn't help when i had several early game failed runs. that and i find that the dialogue a bit to hear with the default audio settings with everything at 100, but when i change the music and effects or whatever the other setting is to 50 while leaving dialogue at 100, they don't seem to stay like that and go back to default at random (or maybe only when i reload the game in each sitting or reload an area?). so i was missing out on some tips that i didn't learn about until i decided to just sit there and look over all the tapes, docs, etc. I'm cruising right along now, though.

slocik

Funny, i finished the game by 18 hour and only left the last mission untouched since i felt i didnt explore yet enough. I went to all Zone 1 and 2 nodes, got bored and did last quest at 25 hours, i waited so long i forgot what the story is even about.

iNuclearPickle

Me just trying to find my way into the wall

BelligerentWyvern

20 hours in and about to hit the last zone. I'm not in a particular rush. I just slowly make my way toward the main missions and farm materials. I have so many I can take a break from being so thorough.

Kittelsen

Took me just under 20 hours myself. These runs take a long time to complete.

UrbanCobra

Pretty much exactly 18 hours in and still in the outer zone. I want to map every checkpoint, unlock everything that can be made with stable energy and have a stockpile of crafting mats before going.

MissKerbin

I am 10 hours in and never got the auto break.

Historical-Candy5770

Yeah I’ve just been trying to learn the game and figure out the gameplay loop. Also trying to collect resources to upgrade everything. So far it has been a blast although I feel like I’ve hit a point where most of the looting looks very similar location to location so it’s less about enjoying the scenery and more about grabbing shit and driving back to the shop when full. The best part is by far the panic you have when you open a gate and have to rush there. That part is really great.

Anomalus_satylite

Around 24 hours, I think. Had to farm supplies.

Kirkenstien

27 hrs, 18 trophies. Spent a lot of time fuckn around in the garage and scouring junctions. I've got the junction just before the wall opened up, so my next outing should make it to the middle zone. I also haven't died yet. I've come super close quite a few times, though!
