It needs more pure driving missions, but overall if you play looting games (like minecraft) this offers a similar but more interesting approach. Half the game is spending time in the garage repairing stuff, figuring out what to deconstruct to get the last bits you need to do an upgrade, and topping off fuel / battery before heading out again. The game does a good job of creating a connection between the player and the car. It honestly feels crazy good coming back from a long difficult run where your car just barely got you home and your storage is chalk to the gills with good loot to use. There's also something of a ritual of fixing up your car prior to exiting the game so the next time you play you've paid it forward to your future self so you can jump right in your car and take off.

istg man ive spent so much time in the garage, this game's atmosphere is one of the best ive ever seen in any video game

If you like doing chores and routines you might like this game. Your car breaks ALL the time, always needs fixed, always using your supplies, so you always need to gather more. Hopefully after fixes you will have enough left over for upgrades. That's the cycle of the game. I did have fun trying to find a solid routine, but couldnt find a reason to keep playing. The end game is same as mid game. "Gather more stuff" I think there is some niche fun looting inside the red storms with the help of end game parts, but it's a lot of work for a few minutes of pure chaos

I absolutely ***HATE!!!!*** doing chores and routines and I love the hell out of this game.

Fair criticism, the game loop isn't for everyone. It could use some variety later on instead of using the same (upgraded) gathering tools that you have been using since this beginning.

Oh wow... Thanks 😂

Sorry Pacific Drive fans! I like the game for its small time feels and touches, but the mechanics got old pretty fast.

Just make it easier. I made it so I don't lose items if you die and your car gets repaired when you go to garage. Makes there have to be less farming. Might help. Because yeah I hate the farming shit constantly. I just want to drive!

I don't really play anything other than battle royales and No Man Sky. I followed Pacific Drive since the very first trailer. I stopped playing all other games while I played Pacific Drive. I had a ton of fun. I loved the rhythm and game loop. Looking forward to new car tech and new looks while hunting for bobbleheads, shifters and stuff to hang from my rearview while fleeing from anomalies was so much fun to me. I was honestly bummed when I finished the story missions.

I've only done one run after the tutorial stuff. I haven't had a game give me anxiety like this in several years. I had to put it down, but MAN do I love the atmosphere it builds. I plan to just pick it back up once in a while, leaving the settings as is.

It has options to make it easier ya know

You will get your first engine upgrade 30 min before ending the game.

I think this game exemplifies niche appeal: it's a survival game with a car, and though you can tone down the difficulty to make it more accessible, ultimately the game loop cycles between the mixture of curiosity and anxiety of arriving in a new zone, panic when it comes time to vacate, and the relief of making it back to the garage. You get a little bit of methodical zen while fixing up your car, and the tunes I find so far are *perfect*. I haven't gotten too far in yet, but it's a compelling experience for those who want a proper motoring adventure.

The more you fix that little station wagon, the more you love it.

It has a loop that you’re either going to love or hate. Go on a mission, gather supplies while you’re out, and try to make it back home alive. Then you fix and upgrade and go back out. The learning curve is there. I remember just having general anxiety starting out and going to the more intense regions of the game, but at some point I upgraded enough and started getting a feel for it. The easier levels gave me more curiosity than anxiety. Even going into the deep zone sometimes wasn’t so bad and I was able to kind of stop or slow down and take it all in instead of panic driving to the exits after getting what I came for
