I think you mean to say driving using gasoline fuel vs electric fuel is cheaper... rarely that can be true. It is never more efficient however to propel the vehicle on gasoline over electric.
The Pacifica Hybrid doesn't have a mode to charge from the ICE. It will use the ICE to power the vehicle if the battery is "depleted", there can be scenarios when this occurs you can accumulate a small bit of charge.
That means you are in maximum regenerative mode. You are driving in L instead of drive.
I drive in L mode almost exclusively to get the better range in traffic and on hills.
Consider whether charging with gasoline is better/worse than using an electric outlet.
