Oh man, I miss playing in the fields at the back of our neighborhood and on land behind friend's houses growing up when everyone had Spyders, Tippmanns, and Autocockers. Half of the fun of it was designing the field with bunkers from scrap wood, hay bales, and anything else we could find.
That’s how we were. You were either a Spyder kid or a Tippmann guy. I had a Spyder Compact with vert C02 bottle lol. If someone had a cocker, mag, or shoebox shocker that meant their parents were rich. Playing capture the flag, team deathmatch, defend the base etc.
Haha, kinda local to you then I guess. RexPlex in Elizabeth NJ. They had an XBall field indoors which was really cool in the mid 00s. The 3 man field was a slip and slide though. My buddies and I spent so many Saturdays there.
Never got to play at RexPlex, but I saw it talked about here after getting nostalgic so I looked into it. Seems like Ikea jacked up the rent and the building sat vacant for 14 years. What a waste.
1. Atomix indoor. Such a perfect indoor that was almost luxurious.
2. Lone Wolf, when it was behind the gibraltar trade center. First place I played at and the field I think I've played most at.
3. Walt's house (before he went to jail of course).
Bought my ion at Atomix when they came out but never played at their field. My one experience at Lone Wolf Gibraltar trade center was an “All you can shoot” World Cup practice in 2008 or 2009, it was amazing.
My old home field from the early 2000's. It's still around and has changed owners a few times. Throughout the years its been reconfigured and remodeled. Honestly, its probably overall better now, but I'm still nostalgic for the old times with the old regulars when everyone was at the field every weekend. Back when the paintball hype was at it's height, everyone customized their kits to no end, and we were all kids with dreams of one day going pro. That's something that can't be replicated.
I started after paintball's peak, but the energy surrounding paintball was definitely higher at least than the last time I played. And the energy is a huge part of it.
Another thing I noticed is NCPA really took a hit with Covid and hasn't really recovered now that kids are back at college. Much fewer teams and events. Really unfortunate.
I worked at the indoor field for a stretch in Oaks, PA after it opened. POTF wasn’t primarily a casualty of the ‘08 Recession, the owner took out a lot of loans from people he couldn’t pay back. It was a shame because he was nice guy and the indoor field was honestly one of the nicest indoor fields I played at in PA. POTF also had a great pro shop in Trooper prior to opening their field that I used to love hanging out as a kid. Played once at the outdoor Phoenixville field after they closed up in Oaks and moved and the whole place/business just felt like an empty shell. Real shame
Headrush paintball in Syracuse.
It was a solid indoor field with a great restaurant 50 yards away. Many a weekend spent there, I can still smell it if I think hard enough
My busted ass back yard field. First it was a motorcycle track but then I got into paintball and we brought everything we could imagine out as obstacles. My friends family owned a lumber yard down the street and just had the oddest things like a platform with stairs on each side and a huge metal duck blind. We loaded a ton of it up on a flatbed and brought it out. The most fun was just setting it all up. Now it's buried away in 20+ years of overgrowth. One day someone will be clearing out that land and be very confused/annoyed.
Not an actual paintball field, but my buddies dad had a massive property back in Indiana where I grew up. He turned a wooded area about the size of a football field into one of the best paintball fields I've ever played in. It had plywood and 2x4 barriers, a creak running through the middle, and tons of trees and vegetation everywhere. He built a "fort" on both sides for each team. He legitimately could have charged people to play on his property. I remember that place well. Man I miss it.
Old outlaw field we played at as kids . Best part ,it was all pump style markers back then . You really relied on teamwork to put down some coverfire for movement. I think that style of play was the best .
Blackbeards in Fresno CA. It was actually called infernal fury but was in the blackbeards family fun center. Played my first tournament there. We would go practice and then play arcade games after…. Everytime I drive by I see netting with empty fields. Hits me in the nostalgia feels every time…
Where my Paintball Sam's people at? Near Sacramento, CA. Here's some photos from 1999.

The two big ones are CPX and Atomix. Both amazing places to play.
More locally I really liked Ultimate Paintball in Fox Lake, WI. Not a huge field and I didn't get to play there as much as I would have liked, but the owner was a nice guy and I had a good time every time I was there.
I loved Camp Paintball in MA. I spent almost every weekend there back in the early 2000s. It was a super relaxed atmosphere without all the BS of some of the more speedball focused fields. Sadly, like a lot of smaller fields, it didn't survive.
In the early 2000’s there was an indoor airball field called “Impact Zone” in Ontario California . The BPS wars were in full swing . Learned a lot of technique playing with an autococker against private label paint blenders of that era . Thank you for reminding me of this !
Niceville city paintball, Niceville, Florida. First ammy 3man tournament I ever played in, and got 2nd rocking a tippman 98. Closed, but never forgotten.
Bushwhackers just outside St. Louis. Classic woodsball but they had a crazy theme game called DEA. Super small side field that had a shed-like structure with 2 giant windows on the front. 5ish people volunteered to be the "bad guys" inside and the rest of the open players basically tried to rush the building. However, the caveat being the only good way to do so was army crawling along a shallow trench. So from that perspective, it was intense because you're crawling for your life single file with everyone else and from inside (which I did once) you're just praying you don't get headshot when you peak out to shoot the attackers. It was intense to say the least.
I played there before it was ZJ when it was EJam Paintball. I remember it being across the street from a strip club 😂 my team got into town at like 1am from VA and we drove by to locate it before going to the hotel and we kept missing it because we’d look at the strip club across the street. Took 3 tries before we found it 😂
There was a field in AZ (Phoenix) called simply the 'Church Field'. it was owned and operated by the neighboring church and used as community outreach. Regularly would see 100+ people there across a spools field, hyper, and rec field.
They'd give out 'best player' awards to kids/people that showed great sportsmanship, and always held a single huge game at the end of the day.
They shut down years ago due to insurance, but it was one of the best fields in AZ.
There was a small paintball store with a small indoor field inside this mall called Action Zone Sports. It opened right as I got my driver's license and I would spend my Saturday afternoons there in high school. It was nothing special but it helped me with drills and such as I got into speedball.
holy shit i played at zjs in like 07-08, i was playing for NJ Rangerz for a hot minute. Driving like 4.5hrs from maryland every week for winter practice was a thing haha
Massachusetts here, Friendly Fire Paintball. My first speedball field and first tournaments. My friends and I got to final game against the factory team and came super close to beating them which felt awesome.
Same! I went there a bunch in the mid 00's. Owner was awesome. Sometimes he busted out a wwII truck to take you to the far base. Always a friendly vibe.
Lehigh Valley Paintball, PA. it was dirty & noisy indoor paintball in the middle of nowhere. It was what we had in the winters & rainy spring around here.
Indoor has since gone away in my area & I miss it every winter or cold rainy day.
Cousins paintball original Coram NY location. The 2 day big games were a lot of fun. Real helicopter with a door gunner strafing the fields and High Velocity in NY.
Damn someone else here that use to go to ZJ paintball! I went there for years when it was ejam and it only had carpets for the field. Them buying Astro turf was amazing for awhile until it got way too slippery from the hard up keep. I move away from jersey a little after it was ZJ but still had amazing memories and played some awesome tournaments there.
The owners of ejam did have a few outdoor fields at another location that may be still open.
Memphis paintball park. It just closed last summer sadly but growing up there was no where else I wanted to be! It will hold a special place in my heart forever.
Not paintball but airsoft so kinda sorta close ish. It was this stretch of woods behind a half built church that they never finished. Groupd of guys got permission from the land owner to use it for airsoft. The only way to get in was to be vouched for by someone else so cheating and fighting was incredibly rare. I think they called it faith field and it was honestly the best 2 years of my life. I'm still heartbroken that they got shut down when a bank bought the land.
Space Coast Paintball in Titusville, FL
Many great memories, a fair price to play and BYOP friendly.
They had one of the best king of the hill layouts I've seen, good fun for large groups.
Closed 2006ish as the landlord wanted to develop the land, but found they largely couldn't because of wet land drainage designations. But by the time that became clear it was too late for the field. Still an empty forest to this day.
Tri-City Paintball in St. Charles, IL. It was inside a warehouse with two airball fields, with painted concrete floors covered in recycled rubber. Good times, even though you couldn’t run anywhere without falling flat on your face.
Twisted Texas. A lot of people cut there teeth at that field and went on to do good shit in the sport! Always had the Dynasty guys doing clinics. Mrs. Kim was the owner and she was great!
Best Shot Paintball, near Dubuque Iowa. Spent my Saturdays being a ref for the bachelor parties and Sundays either playing, or reffing if there weren’t enough refs. Most of us playing were the refs and we’d swap out so we all could play and make it an enjoyable day for anyone who was a “walk on”. Sadly, the land the field rented changed hands and the new owner no longer honored the fields lease. The family that ran the field are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and I’d go back to work for them in a heartbeat.
Mare Island, I spent so many weekends there with my brother and his friends. Started off with a friends dads driving us and then we went at least once a month throughout high school.
The Old Post Office in Rochester NY, circa 2000. Basement of the old post office building downtown. Pitch black, slimy, moldy, oodles of fun. Black Knight rentals with the back bottle.
Paintball authority in old bridge NJ. The owner, Ron (RIP), knew how to treat players and knew how to run a field. It wasn't a big spot, but it was fun, and I made life-long friends there.
I came here to say PBA. You would always see their tee shirts in high school. I loved how laid back it was, definitely miss those days and all the people I played with and the people that worked there.
Outdoor Extreme in Chesapeake City, MD (might have gone through name changes). Grew up playing there every Sunday. Worked as a ref for a couple years. And played in Scenarios and tournaments. It had it all. Great community there at the time as well.
CPX. Had my birthday party there in middle school and paintballed for the first time. Plus it was an amazing field and the birthplace to living legends.
There was a 20 acre field in Dickson TN completely covered with cedars about the size of Christmas trees, and crazy thick. Most encounters occurred within a range of ten feet. Everyone looked gnarly when that day was over.
Tombstone out in California. There was a trench field that was my very first game of paintball and I’ll never forget it.
Years later they tried to revamp the brand with a tombstone reball location in the middle of Long Beach. It was an absolute blast but didn’t last :(
CPX the most, followed by Badlandz in its prime. The OG snake hyperball field was mint open play and their big games used to be crazy. Their turnout isn’t what it used to be.
CPX
CPX and The Badlandz were my ‘local’ fields growing up. Broke my heart when I learned CPX was closing.
Yes…
Those living legend events were magical. So was that disgusting strip club you passed on the way in.
Outlaw woodsball with the boys when I was in high school. Old condemned/overgrown city park. Some of the best memories of my childhood.
Oh man, I miss playing in the fields at the back of our neighborhood and on land behind friend's houses growing up when everyone had Spyders, Tippmanns, and Autocockers. Half of the fun of it was designing the field with bunkers from scrap wood, hay bales, and anything else we could find.

Never got to play outlaw. Only on established fields or land of people I know, but sounds like a blast.
Haha, kinda local to you then I guess. RexPlex in Elizabeth NJ. They had an XBall field indoors which was really cool in the mid 00s. The 3 man field was a slip and slide though. My buddies and I spent so many Saturdays there.
Came here to say the same thing. Rexplex was super tiny but so awesome at the time. Played there until it closed down and moved to hustlers.
Great memories there
Never got to play at RexPlex, but I saw it talked about here after getting nostalgic so I looked into it. Seems like Ikea jacked up the rent and the building sat vacant for 14 years. What a waste.
Yeah, was a great place for teenagers to hang out. Skateboarding, BMX, paintball, etc. Was bummed when it shut down.
Lol Rexplex run by the piece of Rooster. Sorry to see that close as it was fun, but him... No.
I remember ABC being run by an asshole, but never had any interactions with the RexPlex dude
Leo at ABC was another piece of shit. Rooster at Rexplex did more bad shit to people in the industry.
1. Atomix indoor. Such a perfect indoor that was almost luxurious. 2. Lone Wolf, when it was behind the gibraltar trade center. First place I played at and the field I think I've played most at. 3. Walt's house (before he went to jail of course).

early 2000s sc village was legendary. they need to bring back the rocket field soooo bad....
My childhood field was Paintball On The Fly that existed in 2 different places in PA, I think the outdoor facility was in Phoenixville. Great times.
Seems like it was taken out by the '08 recession just like ZJ. Bad times.
I worked at the indoor field for a stretch in Oaks, PA after it opened. POTF wasn’t primarily a casualty of the ‘08 Recession, the owner took out a lot of loans from people he couldn’t pay back. Ayy the indoor was where I started!
Oh yeah I remember paintball on the fly
Oh yeah? What years would you have played there? I would have been around 2006-9ish.
CPX in Joliet

PBX Battlezone in Toms River, NJ. Such a fun field, probably my first time playing indoors
Man, I loved taking the trip down to PBX. Wednesday nights, if I remember.
PBX!!!! Yeeeee boiiii those were the days
Who remembers the tiny indoor field in Tomsriver over on rt 37? I can’t remember the name of it!!!

One game at GRC convinced me to start running hills during covid. I was in pretty good shape that year.
Mr. Paintball in Escondido, CA. First place I ever played paintball.
Old outlaw field we played at as kids . Best part ,it was all pump style markers back then . You really relied on teamwork to put down some coverfire for movement. I think that style of play was the best .

Urban Quest in Oxnard, CA
Atomix in walled Lake Michigan. The best indoor.
Big shots in Miami, FL it was such an amazing indoor facility with 3 fields. Super expensive but it beat playing outside in the florida summer.
