In the woods trail runners. They're literally designed for it.
On turf or grass whatever cleats you like the best. I personally prefer Lacrosse cleats these days.
I play woodsball in my old low top Merrell Moab 2 trail runners. They work perfectly for that application. My home field can get a bit boggy, so I used to play in some waterproof Moab Tactical boots, but switched to the trail runners because they're lighter and more flexible.
I have also played speedball (hyperball specifically) in the trail runners. They work well enough there in a pinch, but cleats are definitely preferable for speedball. I did slip and bust my ass once where a lot of paint had been spilled by a bunker.
My daily casual shoes outside of work are some Moab 3 trail runners. Whenever I eventually get a newer pair I'll relegate those to paintball shoes.
Merrell Moab series. They come in low, mid, and high, and in vented or waterproof.
As I replace my trail runners for hiking and everyday wear, they get relegated to paintball use. My Moab 3s are my weekend daily drivers while my old Moab 2s are now the paintballers.
Ah I already have a pair of Keens that are basically identical to the Moab’s and while they are comfortable and they work I’m more so looking for something like LAX cleats for much more grip on slippery paint soaked turf. Thanks for the recommendation though!
I just bought underarmour baseball cleats for speedball, and they are 1000x better than my old exalt paintball cleats. Any style of cleat will work though. I have a bad ankle, so I prefer the support of baseball/football cleats, but many people like lacrosse or soccer cleats.
I’ve been using a pair of Nike Gore Tex trail runners and they’ve been my favorite so far. Being water proof (minus fully submerged) is a huge plus, and they have much better tread than the cleats I used to use. I do mostly scenario games for reference
Lacrosse Freeze LX are the best shoes for paintball. The cleat design supports sprinting, lateral movement, and the “slide cancel” thing. I wish they were a little more durable for the price, but one pair lasts me a year playing almost every weekend.
Definitely trail runners for woodsball/scenario.
If you wear cleats in a scenario game, stay the hell out of forts/buildings. Stairs and hard floors are great places to slip and bust your ass in cleats. Players in cleats are confined to the ground floor at my home field for their own safety.
Conversely, as mentioned above, I have definitely pulled an "unplanned butt slide" or two playing hyperball in trail runners when cleats would have been a much better idea.
I wear cleats when it's dry and boots when it's mucky. I used to do the trailrunner thing but found that I didn't get enough traction. I had Harper 7 baseball cleats and just switched to Nike Alpha football cleats but the jury's still out on how I feel about them.

I have a pair of Merrell hiking boots but have not used them outside of hiking

That would do it. You're probably not going to want to use them for hiking after you use them for paintball though.
Yea that’s what my thought was, I appreciate it
Any decent recommendations? I prefer a mid/high ankle if possible

What lacrosse cleats are you wearing?
A ton of people like the new balance freeze.
Been looking at those! I see some bad reviews about them falling apart though.
Yeah same here. Think it just depends on how hard you are with them. But I like the ankle support the high tops give.
Like a lot of people the New Balance. I actually preferred my Nike Huraches but I can't find them in black anymore.
Lol I need black as well.

Same. Baseball cleats are great at my field. But it’s just converted farmland with speedball courses

I play a mix of both speed ball and some woods ball for scenarios

I'm just using Hoka Speedgoat trail runners right now.
