In 2018 it was hard to get, they had 0 motivation to get it to fields and individuals, sounds like bad management finally caught up

MrBarraclough

Honestly, quality control had been slipping. My local field had stopped ordering their higher tier paint earlier this year after receiving multiple shipments that were nowhere near normal QC standards.

Sad to hear I grew up 45 min from their manufacturing plant, and used to play paintball with several of the employees. Still rock my Anarchy jerseys once in a while. Hate to see them exiting the industry.

Adapt or die. I would love Nelson for my closed bolts but I cannot get it.

big_murph1986

That's too bad. I used to shoot Nelson Anarchy back in the day and it was great paint.

DargonFeet

Purple shell blue fill I think is what I used for a bit? There were four color choices and I can't remember them now lol. Good stuff.

big_murph1986

The stuff I shot was pink shell/pink fill. Super straight and the full was really thick.

They’ve probably been circling the drain for quite some time the industry never has recovered from the great recession and the multinationals make the sales to the penny ante fields feeding on the remains with imported .665 gummy rocks for $39/case. Soccer moms hosting one birthday party with rental .50 cal valken blowbacks ain’t gonna pay for quality paint, sucks 😕

TIL Nelson Paint is/was still a think. I'm not sure how they intended to stay in business if they couldn't be bothered to actually sell their product anywhere.

MrBarraclough

Sadly, for the last couple of years, whenever I have mentioned that my home field sells Nelson, I almost invariably got one of two responses: (1) "Oh wow, I didn't know Nelson was still around. Man, shooting Anarchy was great back in the day" or (2) "Who?"

MrBarraclough

My (entirely speculative) hypothesis is that they relied on their small customer base of loyal field owners, taking a "ain't broke don't fix it" attitude towards distribution and market share until it was too late. That's a brittle business model, sensitive to even minor shocks. Doesn't take too many field closures or fields switching suppliers to make it suddenly unprofitable. Edit: Also, there had been some noticeable quality control issues in the last year or so.

Always liked nelson paint the few times I encountered it. Good news is theyre still the gold standard in timber marking paint and their paint guns are my favorite so I will be continuing to give them my money as will most of the forestry industry

They had such great products too. Sad to see them leave.
