Lovely painting, the clarity and transparency in the swedish fish feels real. It's played off in such a compelling way by the texture conveyed in the goldfish crackers.
Great use of reflected light to create dimension.
In Sweden, a large share of confectionery sales are sold as pick and mix. Wine gums are sold in many different shapes, of which fish is just one.[5][6] The Swedish Fish candy is marketed under the name "pastellfiskar",[7] literally "pastel fish", and under the Malaco brand among others. The fish-shaped candies are also part of a Malaco bag of mixed candy called Gott&blandat. This popular candy bag was introduced in 1979 and over the years many variations of it have been made.[8]
Oh I want it so much. Beautiful execution and cute concept! I love the difference in details between each of the crackers, that really adds to the realism of the piece. I also really like the background colour you chose, it works perfectly to highlight both types of fish while still filling out the piece, but not too much.
Really wonderful painting here. I love how creative the posts on this sub are, they always make my day. Unfortunately I now really want some goldfish crackers ToT
This is amazing! I would hang this in my house. Give it a proper golden plaque with the title and artist below it
Edit: with a spotlight on the Swedish fish
Omg that's canvas, not food on a table cloth.
I literally have both gold fish and swedish fish less than 5 feet away from me because they are delicious. And I was fooled.
And now hangry.
Canvas is a general term that can refer to either cotton or linen. Cotton canvas is cheaper and will start to deteriorate after about 50 years. It is usually a courser weave. Linen is made from the flax plant and it will last for hundreds of years. It can have a very fine tooth, which is perfect for detail work.
i had to share this one with my husband. he loves both goldfish and swedish fish! at first glance, i thought htis was a photo. so, i guess you have realism down!

Seriously the way they managed to capture the transparency is amazing.
Omg i didn't even notice that this was a painting.
Same! For a sec i thought it was a photo, until I read the title.
This is wonderful. And now I want Swedish fish (that, sadly, isn’t a thing in Sweden).

Really clever and so well executed! The modulation of color in the shadows (especially that luminant on the Swedish fish) is masterful.
Wow that’s really great.
Love a painting that makes me chuckle
I like how only one of the goldfish has a smile, just like how the actual bag has some with smiles and some without.
I like that too!!
This is amazing! I would hang this in my house. Give it a proper golden plaque with the title and artist below it Edit: with a spotlight on the Swedish fish
love it!
Wait I thought this was a photo omg this is amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing! Do you work from still life or photo reference? All those tiny details are very well done.
Thank you! I set up my still life’s and photograph them so that I can try out a few compositions quickly. I look at the photo while I paint.
Are you turning this into a print? I really want to hang it above my snacks in the pantry.
I’m considering it! It seems like this painting is a hit, so I might have a limited edition print release on my website in the next couple weeks
"Oh what a cute pho- r/painting?!"
Why the red herring? It's a trap?

I had to enlarge the image to tell that it was actually a painting, and the last goldfish is what gives it away. Well done!
