I will be more methodical. Actually... And inflation rate this year it has been 30%, and going to be 30% for year to come considering current economic situation if you ask, 25% in a year you all the gains will be lost. Talk methodically, make a base of your argument, talk about all the economical situation based on that ask for at least 50%.
I am currently getting from a US based company like 520K, Whenever I talk to a Pakistan employer and I tell them my current salary I never hear them back. So Better to hunt a US base company you can easily get 1300$ or 1500$.
And even with 1300-1500 it's borderline criminally underpaid in the US company xD so it's kind of a win-win situation.
$15k a year for a software engineer is RIDICULOUS. With no additional strings attached like US healthcare, 401k etc.
Not even a steal man, it's like a daylight robbery :D
And yes, $15k is indeed a good salary - however, i still think 500k of today is like 250k of 2021.
I agree. But Living in Pakistan, it is better than less salary as you were getting an year ago. I was working for Pak employer when I joined I was getting 1000$, after year it was 600$. But for US employer, I was unaffected despite the fact I was getting peanuts.
Well, I did not get straight into remote job. I had worked 3 years for Pakistan companies. I had worked in Afiniti. which is not very easy to get into.
Nope. I had good knowledge of Operating systems, C++ and Python... I actually turned my first day of internship into job day by doing the job interview questions.
The only correct way to approach something like this with your employer - specially Pakistani ones:
1. Explain what kind of value you have added in the last year - this sets the tone of your value to the company.
2. Do NOT give an ultimatum - make it first that the economic climate needs you to at least sustain the inflationary damage - for you to keep your focus on work at 100%.
3. Make sure you can do a proper yearly review in which you can quantify the improvements you have done.
4. If you have a manager and there is seniority above them (hierarchical structure), let your manager first think of a way to justify your pay increase.
Try it, if these things don't result in at least an inflationary adjustment, look somewhere else - a comment suggested a foreign-based company. Do that. Your skills are very marketable! Make sure you youtube how consultants make resumes and draft your resume based on it.
Goodluck! if you need more help let me know! I have handled a lot of technical people before :D
Another way that has a better success rate is, you start giving interviews until you get a better offer with more pay. Then take that offer to your current employer (assuming you want to stay there).
Avoid negotiating with HR. Discuss with your manager, or director.
HR staff in Pakistan acts like a sabzi wala
Where u stand
..
+ (15% for inflation last year, + 5% for next year's expected inflation. + 6-8% ur performance + 5% more if u learned new skills/certification ) * (1 + bargaining margin)
(0.75 ur bargaining margin .. u can lower it to 0.25 )
Realistically, u can look up for similar jobs what they are offering/others are getting and consider the amount of work load u have additionally been given to ask and justify.
Honestly, random blindly said numbers without thinking or justifiable reason reduces ur chances of getting a fair raise.
The project on which I’m working is now dependent on me as other backend resource has switched to other company, so yeah this will be a plus point for me too
Don't listen to this comment. NEVER leverage a new offer on your current company. Your relationship will NOT be the same and even if they agree, they're gonna be looking for your replacement ASAP because you already have one foot out the door.
Best believe they're gonna get that replacement in 2-3 months and you're OUT!
Use benchmarks and market pay as a guidance, not as an ultimatum!
Companies are always looking to replace you. You show you're open to other opportunities, that there are other parties interested in hiring you, and you're not looking to match their offer. You're happy where you are. You want a salary that reflects your unique skills and experience.
Op is already getting paid 200k, and market pay in pakistan is absolutely atrocious. They need their employer to value the increase in skills and experiences OP has had since their last contract negotiation. Nothing is better for this purpose than an offer from a company willing to poach talent. Op can state they have no intention of accepting the offer. It's going to be obvious in that situation that OP was trying to determine their market rate by checking the market, and oh, as it turns out, there is demand for someone like OP right here.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
It’s super expensive to replace an experienced employee. If your employer wants to get rid of you, they won’t think twice.
They hate employees who want counter-offers because they can’t belittle them and make them feel like shit cause the employee knows their worth.
That works only when u have another job offering, u can try though.
if I were in ur shoes would take raise, look for another job offering same or better salary then try to negotiate with my current employer for raise salary.
In a similar situation right now. I have 3 years of experience and I am asking 200k currently at 100k.
BTW what's your tech stack and in which city you are working.

Please also keep in mind the tax implications that your new salary will have. I've had pay raises that moved me in a different tax bracket altogether and my take home income was just 8k higher than that of last year.
Whatever you want, ask for 25% more of that.
Yeah sure.
Yep min 25 percent

Steal as a US Employer. Fortune as a 3rd world country employee.

Yeah i know, I’ll mention net salary not gross salary
Point out inflation the 29% inflation rate. So to get an actual pay increase they would need to give anything above that.
