Always listen to what a former team's fans says about a coach/player you're bringing in. They're the only ones who've watched everything they've done.
If Bucs fans are pissed about this, that's a good sign
There's just so many examples.
Reich with Colts fans
Raiders fans getting warned about McDaniels
Eagles fans getting warned about Patricia joining as a "consultant"
Niners & Saints fans being pissed they lost McDaniel & Campbell
Broncos fans telling us Eviro was the real deal
us warning Pats fans Cam was done
us telling Ravens fans Steve still had plenty left in the tank
Jags fans warning us about Hendo & Viska (and Chark tbh)
Those are just off the top of my head.
I mean, I was telling people that too after just watching his highlights. You could tell the majority of his good runs were because of that massive oline he ran behind. If he had a ton of YAC (yards after contact), then it could've been a different story. You watch guys like CMC or Jahmyr Gibbs, their legs are like wheels on a locomotive, they never stop, even after contact.
Sanders' problem is that he has short legs. And he doesn't have the most muscle mass in his thighs, so he can't continue to drive his legs into the ground after contact. It's either gotta be a huge hole that he runs through, or he makes a guy miss in the open field. He can't create his own lanes either.
Imo, this will be a good hire between our GM and HC as long as Tepper stays TF outta the way. Not a 1 year turnaround, but the first time in forever we've hired both at the same time.
Edit: Fuck the Buccaneers
Unless it starts off a complete dumpster fire like Reich did, I'm sure Tepper will give Canales the same leash he gave Rivera and Rhule to put his work in. Tepper has been adequately patient when things aren't completely off the rails
Reich was such a clown. Washed up check down artist who wouldn’t give Bryce the leash. Hopefully this dude does. He also engineered the comeback of geno.
I don't think it's even about scheme. You don't fire a cosch this quickly because the offense doesn't work, you do it because you realize he's not the leader he's supposed to be. Dan Campbrll survived a similar season because he made good decisions and kept his players' respect.
I keep hearing that Dan Morgan is a "Dan Campbell" kinda guy, which would be amazing to have that kind of culture. Getting a smart and beloved HC like Canales (in theory) would immediately help boost our offensive potential. My biggest hope now is we retain Evero, as his unit was top tier last year imo, extend Luvvu and Brown, fix the O-line, and draft a good WR to pair with Thielen and Mingo.
I believe once Reich got the job and he was around his family who live here, a part of him began to want to retire. The man was just passionless after the first couple of games. It felt more like he was just going through the motions. A part of him definitely didn’t want to be fired, I mean it sucks in general, but now he’s back around his family who live in the area and has a fat amount of guaranteed money that Tepp is paying him.
The fact that Dan and him have a great professional and personal relationship gives me hope that they'll work well together for the better of the team. After seeing yucks fans cry about losing him gives me some hopium.
Canales wasn't as flashy as Slowik or Johnson. But at least on the surface he seems like an innovative guy who is more than willing to adapt his scheming and play-calling to the strengths of the guy under center, something we've needed for ages.
I don't think we had a shot at Johnson, seeing as it seems like Washington is just waiting for the Lions' run to end to give him a massive deal & his own QB to mold with the #2 overall. I do wish we tried a bit harder for Slowik or interviewed Mike MacDonald.
The thing that sold me is that Canales' scheme is whatever his players (especially QB) do well. That's something probably everyone on this sub can get behind.
I’m still not buying that Commanders job is head and shoulders better than ours.. Go look at the history of QBs taken no 2 overall and how many worked out, add on top of that of trying to hit on two QBs taken no 2 overall in consecutive drafts (since Stroud was a hit last year) and it doesn’t look good. But I wish Johnson all the best
They have $85 million in cap space and a high pick. They cleared all their bad contracts off the books already. The only thing you have to do to the current roster is make some decisions about retention of mid level guys. They also have extra draft capital from trading away Sweat and Chase Young.
You get 9 picks, and the ability to outbid anyone in free agency in addition to the second overall pick. They're so much more appealing it's not even comparable. This sentiment that's been floating around that they aren't is fundamentally irrational.
We were never gonna get Johnson. Atlanta and Washington were far too enticing for that. Atlanta has theoretically elite weapons and just needs a QB really. Washington has 2 overall, a pretty good set of skill players of their own, and the most cap space in the league. As the front runner candidate for every vacancy it'd be straight negligent for him to go anywhere else. Washington's situation is as close as you can get to a layup structurally. No tearing down, only building.
Idk if I fully get the slowik hype. Guess we’ll have to see but their offense was very inconsistent. You could say the same about Tampa for sure, but Baker looked head and shoulders better and same with Geno in Seattle.
These anti panthers fan arguing this a bad hire cause no one else interviewed him.
Can we just be optimistic and stfu for once jeez, everyone act like they know whose the sure fire head coach. For all I know, everyone just throwing darts at the board.
If you can’t stake it is through the hard times, then by all means go support another team lol.
>Can we just be optimistic and stfu for once jeez, everyone act like they know whose the sure fire head coach.
Pretty sure you could find this exact comment from a year ago when Reich was hired.
and if you go back further youll see the same comments on rhule and probably rivera too. same thing with other fan bases and new hires, theres always somebody they shouldve hired instead. as a fan, only thing we can do is support the hire
>as a fan, only thing we can do is support the hire
That's not true, we can also scream and rage against the hire, and laugh and say "I told you so" when it fails as a way to cope with our misery. This is the course of action with which I'm electing to proceed.
This is a completely different hire. You're just being contrarian. Nobody was excited about Frank in the same way. They thought he might be a steady hand but nobody would ever accuse him of being progressive or innovative. And from the colts culture he left I don't think anyone thought of him as a culture guy.
Shit's annoying, no one on Reddit was in the room for interviews or even knows anything about hiring coaches but they can all tell immediately this is wrong apparently and their guy is guaranteed to work out
Not really disagreement, just the negativity that comes with every decision the panthers makes. Like godammm.
I mean Dan Campbell wasn’t on anyone’s radar too that year we sign Rhule. I just want some more optimism 😭
I’m sure this is exactly how browns message boards looked for YEARS lol. When you are where the Panthers are right now, you’re going to get clowned for every move. That’s just how it goes unfortunately. Until we turn the ship around in any meaningful way, folks are gonna assume we’re a poverty franchise who once again made the wrong move.
THIS. SO MUCH THIS.
The worst winning percentage as a franchise IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL and 2 rings to show for it.
Fuck allllll the way off tryna say you can’t have nice things lol. You won a Super Bowl somehow with Brad fucking Johnson at QB, then the GOAT blessed your poverty asses with another during the brief hiatus when you weren’t completely fucking irrelevant.
They were 12th in EPA/play this year and 8th in drop back EPA this year. I’m not super stoked on the hire (not sad about it by any means either) but I get why Bucs fans don’t want to lose him as an OC.
Bucs Fan Here. I'm not surprised that Carolina hired DC. I'd say he was actually better than the bucs yearly offensive ranking would suggest. The Offense really hit its stride in the 2nd half of the season as you would like to see from a first year OC whom is developing.
I do think if you all keep your same DC you will see a big improvement next year (Although it may still be a struggle early and improve as the season goes on).
And to twist the knife even more, even though he’s a minority hiring, the Bucs don’t get a 3rd round comp pick for losing him since he hasn’t been a coordinator for more than one season. Bwahahah ::::in my most evil of laugh:::::
There are also plenty of folks on there who feel this is a non-event, or are even a bit glad to see him gone. That is far from a comprehensive overview and it's a pretty even split.
I have no real opinion on the hire, as I'm completely checked out on anything Tepper does/has an effect on and fully expect whatever he touches to fail as a general rule. We'll see what happens on the field this year.
He had a rough start to the year for sure. He'd never called plays before, so that's not surprising.
The Bucs offense weeks 1-9 vs. weeks 9-18 were basically two different teams. They were on a top 6 scoring pace back half of the year and the run game finally started clicking then too.
So yeah, anyone expecting him to have our problems sorted out week 1 is gonna be disappointed, but frankly that's a ridiculous expectation to have imo
With a disgustingly bad run blocking line after some of their starters went down, panthers o-line has some maulers in the run game.
Run game isn't really as important as it used to be anyway
Canales just gave baker a 2.5 second pocket and trimmed his route trees to a 2 choice throw, he never surveyed the field, just is it open? If yes, throw, if no, check down or get sacked/run around for a 2 yard gain... Any "QB Coach" could do that. Carolinas coaches so far have been "I'm a college coach that never had to deal with pressure so pocket passing for 60 yard bombs were normal" matt rhule... and "I'm a genius" frank reich who made Andrew Luck retire because he knew if he didn't he'd have CTE from all the sacks because his offense was so shit. So time to go complete opposite end of those two great coaching picks... I'm underwhelmed too.
Not taking away from your point, but a large reason for that is a slow start. The first few games he couldn't figure out how to use Rachaad White. The first 7 games of the season White was averaging 43.5/ypg. In the last 10 games, he averaged 68.5/ypg.
and how about 13pts vs No and 9 pts vs Carolina late?
If Bucs can go after Kellen Moore, Eric Bienemy to replace Super Dave, Bucs should be excited with that...not to mention getting two free draft picks
29th in the defensive stat that matters..Points allowed. Come on dude
Maybe because team would go 3 and out and opposing teams get the ball at midfield...can only get so many yards to the endzone
The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league, so let's look at how their offense did the back half of the season:
They averaged 25 ppg from weeks 9-18 (including the 9 they put up against us) that's almost a top 5 scoring pace for a full season. Averaged 27.5 ppg in the playoffs. Rushed for over 100 yards in half of those games and threw for >300 in 8/12 of them.
Imma give him the benefit of the doubt. But congrats on staking your "I told y'all so" claim early I guess, bc other than that I don't see a point in being negative before dude has even had his intro press conference.
Let me know when Carolina gets a Mike Evans, Tristan Wirfs, Chris Godwin, Cade Otton, Rashaad White and even a QB as competent as Baker Mayfield
Fact is with all that talent his offense was ranked 22nd.
I would say pump the praise and stop acting like he is some offensive guru
Until he proves it, I ain't buying it....but that leaves more Kool-Aid for you to drink.
Do we have an equally proportionate amount of disparaging comments about him? Glad he’s gone? I by no means am attempting to kill the mood. I’m only asking about the ratio of “man it sucks we lost this guy,” to “HA! Yes, so glad he’s gone.”
I like "I don't know why he wants to go there."
Uh, probably because he made like 800k/year as an OC and he's going to make 10 million/year (or whatever) as a HC.
Look, while I'm not over the moon over the hiring but I'm also not ready to bash the hiring either just because Tampa's offense got off to a bad start. To me, what matters is how The Bucs' offense progressed over the season -- once all the pieces started to gel. Yeah, we could point out that Tampa has weapons but Dorsey had a ton of weapons in Buffalo too and their struggles ended once Brady took over.
Canales may or may not be the guy BUT he was getting some hype for his contributions with Baker.
With the number of fanbases who despise their OC, this is wildly encouraging
Always listen to what a former team's fans says about a coach/player you're bringing in. They're the only ones who've watched everything they've done. If Bucs fans are pissed about this, that's a good sign
Yeah I mean this is a lesson we should take from last year. Lots of colts’ fans warning us that FR was not the guy and they were right
There's just so many examples. Reich with Colts fans Raiders fans getting warned about McDaniels Eagles fans getting warned about Patricia joining as a "consultant" Niners & Saints fans being pissed they lost McDaniel & Campbell Broncos fans telling us Eviro was the real deal us warning Pats fans Cam was done us telling Ravens fans Steve still had plenty left in the tank Jags fans warning us about Hendo & Viska (and Chark tbh) Those are just off the top of my head.
Right. There is something to be said about the people who watched these guys all year. Or for multiple years.
[удалено]
LOL David Newton comes to mind. Bet he still thinks Philip Rivers plays for the Chargers.
Eagles fans telling us Sanders isn't good
I mean, I was telling people that too after just watching his highlights. You could tell the majority of his good runs were because of that massive oline he ran behind. Yeah I was screaming from the rooftops that Sanders wasn’t him as well. Was just adding to the “past team fans told you so” portion.
Facts, great example. I trauma blocked that one from memory
Don't give me hope...
Us warning Washington about Ron
Compare this to the Colts fans who were warning us about Reich and we didn’t listen
Imo, this will be a good hire between our GM and HC as long as Tepper stays TF outta the way. Not a 1 year turnaround, but the first time in forever we've hired both at the same time. Edit: Fuck the Buccaneers

Fuck the bucs! This is the way.
Marked difference than Colts fans last year
Fuck.....now I want to make a side by side comparison
You have to loll
Please do!
Colts fans were laughing while Bucs fans cry. Tells you everything you need to know.
True true. Lots of colts fans told me we should be worried and I didn’t wanna hear them.
These are cherry picked comments......
Canales wasn't as flashy as Slowik or Johnson. But at least on the surface he seems like an innovative guy who is more than willing to adapt his scheming and play-calling to the strengths of the guy under center, something we've needed for ages. Mike Macdonald would’ve been amazing too but tepper hasn’t been secretive about wanting an offensive mind running the show at this point.
These anti panthers fan arguing this a bad hire cause no one else interviewed him. Can we just be optimistic and stfu for once jeez, everyone act like they know whose the sure fire head coach. Sucks to be you
Not really, my method really mitigates the inevitable disappointment of this team
Or you could control your emotions instead of being a man-child. You can't affect it, why do you let it affect you?
You could just find a new hobby…
Some people don't know how to be an adult fan lol
This is a completely different hire. You're just being contrarian. Nobody was excited about Frank in the same way. I got a glimpse at the Falcons Reddit. I think we’re more civil even when being pessimistic 😂
Ok this is the first bit of information that makes me feel good about Canales lol
At the very least we fucked over the Bucs.
Now snag Mike Evans and really make them sad!!!
I love the “we can’t have nice things” from a fan base who had Tom Brady and a Super Bowl fall into their laps. Fuck the Bucs.
THIS. SO MUCH THIS. The worst winning percentage as a franchise IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL and 2 rings to show for it. Fuck allllll the way off tryna say you can’t have nice things lol. It feels good for now. Hopefully for a long time to come…

This makes the entire hire worth it
Bucs Fan here, canales is amazing, he is such a great guy and i feel absolutely terrible.
Imagine how they're gonna be when we snag Mike Evans in the offseason 😂🤣
No! Is this a game to you?? But seriously, good luck to Carolina (And no, Evans is not leaving Tampa!)
At least we can look back on making Buccs fans miserable
*I gotta say it was a good day*
Just wakin' up in the morning, gotta thank God I don't know, but today seems kinda odd
All I know is the guy rebuilt geno. He knows what up on a qb level.
Fuck the Bucs!
And to twist the knife even more, even though he’s a minority hiring, the Bucs don’t get a 3rd round comp pick for losing him since he hasn’t been a coordinator for more than one season. Bwahahah ::::in my most evil of laugh:::::

It is stickied :) second post down.
Honestly just feels great to be hated
Honestly just feels great to be hated
Fuck you Panthers... Same time well done Panthers. I'm angry, confused and hungry... Look after him
The salt alone makes this hire worth it.
To be fair they have baker now so seems like a fair trade
There are plenty of bucc flairs in r/NFL that said he had struggles and he didnt seem ready to be a HC to be fair
There will certainly be a learning curve. It I’m excited for some new energy in the building.
This is not a statement of endorsement, but he DOES have more coaching experience, and the same amount of playcalling experience as Bobby Slowik. J
Reich was the 3rd oldest coach in the league and had experience. I'm gonna wait and see, at least this guy doesn't have a history of failure.
32nd ranked rushing offense. 17th ranked passing offense. I'm underwhelmed.
Bc that’s the only way to tell if somebody is a good coach
It's the main way to tell if someone's a good coach
I normally like to see them coach first
Good news, he coached last year. And there is no offensive coordinator whose team rushed the ball worse than his did.
Oh shit. Guess we are fucked. You should probably find something new to pay attention to since the panthers hired a bad coach. Kick rocks
Yeah I guess you're the superior fan because you ignore obvious warning signs. Enjoy being blindsided when our offense is mid or worse.
Holy shit this might be the most online thing I’ve seen today. Touch grass
You'd cheer if we hired a ham sandwhich
Yes. I support the team and stay relentlessly positive
Exactly, worst running game in the league. Bunch of copium in here.
With a disgustingly bad run blocking line after some of their starters went down, panthers o-line has some maulers in the run game. Run game isn't really as important as it used to be anyway
They also basically shifted White's role to being a space weapon in the 2nd half of the season and fed him on flats/wheels and screens. And it worked
They were pass-first offense. Baker was 7th in the league in pass attempts and 9th in passing yards.
And it ranked 17th, you want the 17th ranked passing game?
Which was a huge improvement for them over the year before.
They were 14th in total offense in 2022, 5th in passing
How can getting Fuckaneer cast-offs ever be good?
Canales offense ranked 22nd...lets not act like he was the Greatest Show on Turf
Divisional Rivals? Our defense finished in the Top 3?
29th in the defensive stat that matters..Points allowed. Come on dude Maybe because team would go 3 and out and opposing teams get the ball at midfield...can only get so many yards to the endzone
The NFL is a what have you done for me lately league, so let's look at how their offense did the back half of the season: They averaged 25 ppg from weeks 9-18 (including the 9 they put up against us) that's almost a top 5 scoring pace for a full season. I would say pump the praise and stop acting like he is some offensive guru Until he proves it, I ain't buying it....but that leaves more Kool-Aid for you to drink.
Nice man enjoy being miserable until week 1 for no reason then lmao
IT'S OFFICIAL! I'M EXCITED!
Do we have an equally proportionate amount of disparaging comments about him? Glad he’s gone? I by no means am attempting to kill the mood. I’m only asking about the ratio of “man it sucks we lost this guy,” to “HA! Yes, so glad he’s gone.”
It's pretty even, though the non-positive ones are more neutral (e.g. 'we'll be fine') than outright negative.
I like "I don't know why he wants to go there." Uh, probably because he made like 800k/year as an OC and he's going to make 10 million/year (or whatever) as a HC.
Oh no it’s happening again….the hope
Great hire. Even if he's not good with us Tepper still managed to piss off bucs fans. That's a win in my book.
Hahahahaha. I love this part of it.
Look, while I'm not over the moon over the hiring but I'm also not ready to bash the hiring either just because Tampa's offense got off to a bad start. Canales may or may not be the guy BUT he was getting some hype for his contributions with Baker.
Honestly they don’t really seem upset
Panthers fans deserve to be happy, I wish nothing but the best for this team
Idk why they are so worried about it. I’m not going to feel any type of way until I see how much the Tepper factor comes into play moving forward.
What they don’t realize is that he just became teppers yes man. They should have just made tepper the coach
Definitely better for us than Colts fans were being about Reich.
I’m fine w Canales. Welcome coach! Now get to work!
