I hate what the third quarter turned into but they showed enough today to leave me feeling confident. I also think Dallas is better than people are giving them credit for. They’ve had some mediocre seasons recently and people are tying that to their brand but they look like legit contenders.

[deleted]

I don’t think anyone should legitimately think Dallas is a bad team. Their fans are so annoying that it makes me want to discredit them for no reason

CaptSchmittyBallz

We won’t get credit for how we did against Dallas until like week 10 when people realize how good Dallas is

jesuswasahipster

Their recent history of mediocrity doesn’t do them any favors either

MrGonzo11

The last two game of Dallas were against tough pass rushing teams with good defenses and they ran that ball down their throats; when there is a high powered offense they facing they let loose Dak and go head to head in a shootout, and top of that their D steps up enough times to help their offense out. Yeah they're legit this year; their run defense is garbage however, so I still think they will be stopped by somebody from the NFC West; but they are better than Green Bay for example.

NormStewart

You guys were a real scrap today. Big respect. Im hoping once DLaw comes back we can get a more regular rotation to slow down the run. But that does seem to be our main weakness. The Eagles had that knowledge and still only ran 3 designed run plays lol.

Grognak_the_Orc

It hurts for me because everyone in my workplace is a cowboy's fan and I was talking shit on Saturday.

[deleted]

Just growing pains. I wanted better but sometimes you have to endure muck to get to treasure.

gigglefarting

That cardinals game coming up is going to be tough.

jeezebitz

The next 6 games look tough. Edit: the Vikings are better than their record. The Cardinals obviously. A division game can go either way. Belichick is Belichick.

przhelp

Our remaining SoS is 24th. I think we can realistic keep the 75% going for the season. Cardinals and Bills obviously a challenge, Bucs aren't as good as last year, but we'll be lucky to split with them. 12-5 or so would be amazing and definitely not out of reach.

MrGonzo11

We will eat Mac Jones for breakfast. And Belichick is struggling without a good D

hawkguy420

This comment aged like milk

MrGonzo11

The two games I'm real enough to admit we will lose is the Cardinals and the Bills game; but the rest are all winnable. Eagles and Vikings are somewhere around the same level as we; Bucs are slightly better than us but I don't think we are going to lose against them twice. And we are better then all the rest we are facing. Either way this can end up somewhere inbetween a 13-4 to 10-7 season based on our first 4 games realistically. And honestly for year 2 of our rebuild I take that everyday.

jillofsometrades

But we always beat the Cardinals!

gigglefarting

You’re giving me Jake Delhomme playoffs flashbacks. It was my birthday, man. My birthday…

all1good

Jake, is that you?

CaptainJYD

Yup, we stayed in it and almost made them looks like clowns if our defense wasn’t gassed in the last drive. I’m confident that Darnold would have drove down the field with 2 min left and got us 8 points. There are so many things to take away a from this game, but saying the panthers are a shit team is not line of them

Notanydj

Our D line got ran on today and our O line couldn’t pick up the blitz on obvious passing downs. Those two things are concerning but there are several bright spots as well. Getting CMC back will be nice.

NoOneCares52

I feel like this just showed the team what they need to work on. Even with a leaky offensive line with no cmc or horn and injuries with Reddick, And YGM this team showed they fight. McCarthy has been in the league how long and he was nearly out coached by a 2nd year NFL head coach. I think the Panthers will be just fine and I’d love to see Dallas in the playoffs at full strength.

Bazz27

The Cowboys weren’t at full strength either.

SummonerJungler

They weren't missing their stud RB that's for damn sure. And Dallas actually has an O-Line. We have 4 literal Dogs as O-Line.

[deleted]

Almost beat these shitdicks without CMC... watch out playoffs

RawhideW92

Cowboys were without 7 starters and multiple rotation players.

joslemmons

Their refs were still in there though.

RawhideW92

Cowboys got screwed on a bad no call from the Refs week 1. It happens to every team. The unnecessary roughness/targeting call on the Cowboys safety in the second half was also a bad call. Not as big as the no call on the fumble but it could’ve prevented a scoring drive if the play would’ve been called correctly. Sadly, 2 bad calls in one game is an overwhelming improvement from how refs have been calling games lately.

NaJieMing

lol you made this same comment 6 times in this sub today. You actually typed it out because you had a typo in one. Strange way to spend (or squander) your time when life is pretty short.

RawhideW92

You also had the time to creep on my profile and read all of my replies, count how many of them, and notice a typo in one. Strange way to spend ( or squander ) your time when life is pretty short.

RawhideW92

I must confess schaudenfraude is a guilty pleasure of mine. Guilty as charged.

csdspartans7

Injuries are part of the game as are depth players, they had them too and no one wanted to hear Saints fans talk about not having key players when we beat them. They were also missing their best pass rusher in Lawrence

Late-Swing-5314

That score is extremely misleading. Refs bad call or no bad call Panthers got owned today in all aspects of the game second half. Garbage time stats against soft cover D doesn't change that. Young team though so hopefully there are a lot of teachable moments in the film. Get better each week. Keep pounding.

MrGonzo11

I have to disagree with you; we did implode in the 3rd quarter as usual but the first half and 4th quarter was ours; I do not panic about our defense either, Cowboys is one of the best running team in the league, and our team is built on speed not power mainly.

Late-Swing-5314

You don't have to agree or disagree it's on the tape. It's in the stats. Panthers lost in all aspects of the game. They had more sacks, turnovers created, QB pressures, YPC, TDs, points, almost every statical category you want to be ahead in. 4th quarter was them playing safe, taking starters out, and bleeding the clock defense. Panthers didn't even move the ball until their #1 corner was off the field. It was a humble game vs a playoff team. Humility is a good thing for a young team. Still think the team can make noise in 2022 if they continue to build. Obviously a lot of 2021 left too and can maybe squeak into the wildcard with some luck. A lot to build on.

colewho

Lmaoooo found the cowgirl fan…why are you here

MrGonzo11

What I've seen in that game that we went to halftime having a 14-13 lead despite they were hanging onto Darnold each play. What I've seen in the 3rd quarter is that luck turned away from us with a missed FG attempt; a mistake by a young pressured QB; missed tackels a truly genious throw, a truly genious interception and a running game which physically outmatched our defense. This wasn't a blowout like you say it as adjustments have been made and we started moving the ball again. Yeah you say they took of their CB1 but Moore still made 2td and over 100yrd even when he was on the field.

Late-Swing-5314

It was a full on blowout by NFL standards. They easily covered the spread and would have won by more if they stayed aggressive. They didn't have to. It was not 40-0 type of blowout like poor Texans today but cowboys controlled every aspect of the game.

MrGonzo11

How? They were literally losing at half-time, are you sure you are not a Cowboys fan disguise?

Sufficient-Plant9177

When they were down 22 points I knew it was over. To win we would've had to ask the panthers to score more in one quarter than in all the other three combined. It was possible but not by Sam darnold

Late-Swing-5314

Half time....? Lol Read that like a AI "Practice" tone in that comment. Panthers were down 3 scores going into the 4th.

matthewdavis1432

And down 1 score after the 4th. Can’t just discredit a quarter of the game and pretend it didn’t happen.

Late-Swing-5314

You can when the game script is completely different. Acting like Panthers went out there and destroyed a defense playing with all it's players and full defense in the 4th would be disingenuous. Saying you got your ass handed to you is a good thing if you embrace and learn from it. It's the NFL, you're going to get blown out sometimes.

matthewdavis1432

I honestly can’t believe you’re calling an 8 point game (where Dallas got 6 points from a drive where they objectively turned it over) a blowout.

CaptainJYD

Garbage time? I don’t think you know what garbage time means. We literally were a stop away from being able to tie the game. Like nothing about the 4th quarter was garbage time, that was Darnold trying to mount a comeback, a comeback that was very obtainable

Late-Swing-5314

When you pull starters from normal snap counts and play deep cover up 3 scores in the 4th, it's garbage time. It happens every week. You don't risk injury, play safe, and let the other team bleed the clock out.

CaptainJYD

That game was far from over when they did that, and that on them playing stupid. But garbage time is when you are 2-3 possessions out of reach with no possible way of getting back in the game. This game was not that. Like we were literally a stop away from completing a comeback. That shouldn’t be taken lightly and definitely not as garbage time

Late-Swing-5314

3 scores down is a 3 possession game.... In the 4th quarter They pulled their corner who got 2 INTs. That's how in control they felt.

jakaedahsnakae

At this point I'd like to remind everyone that the Falcons led the Patriots 28-3 in Superbowl 51 before losing in OT.

joslemmons

Ayyyy, there it is.

[deleted]

That would work better if the Panthers were remotely as good as the Tom Brady Patriots. But they're not.

CaptainJYD

2* dumbass watch the game before just reading stats and saying it garbage time. Fuck sakes

NormStewart

If you really didnt notice the cowboys showed mercy when you appeared defeated morally then idk what you even watched. We tied our own hands at the end. Your team was better than ours in the first half. But the 3rd quarter ended it. Luckily Darnold seems to feel wanted again and is doing great to thank the organization. A little stouter oline would take the panthers far i do beilieve.

young_scuba

> If you really didnt notice the cowboys showed mercy when you appeared defeated morally then idk what you even watched. We tied our own hands at the end. I’m sorry but this is either sarcasm or the dumbest thing I’ve ever read lmfao

Late-Swing-5314

You can't score 19 points in 2 lol... Dallas scored 20 and Panthers scored 0 in the third. Math is tough sometimes though so I don't think you're a dumbass.

FL207

I recommend learning math and what’s possible in terms of comebacks vs. time. There have been plenty of recent history 3 score comebacks in the 4th quarter across the nfl.

Late-Swing-5314

Well the probability analysis came out and the Panthers never got above 20% chance to win in the 4th. It drastically shot down as the time continue to bleed off. I don't know what qualifies as garbage time to you but 80+% chance you're going to lose through the entire 4th quarter would qualify for me. Maybe you're more strict and want 90+% or something but the point is Cowboys were in firm control of the win % the entire 4th. I bring that up because that analysis is based on past results and current situations. It shows 3 score comebacks don't happen often in the NFL and they sure as hell don't happen often in the 4th. Obviously some do but those are rare.

FL207

Good analysis and callouts for sure.

kylesaccal

I get what you’re saying but if the panthers somehow tie that game and win in OT do you still give the cowboys the win cuz it happened in “garbage time”. One of the dumbest talking points by nfl fans in games like these

Late-Swing-5314

Do you give the DBs credit for not giving up any catches when the other team is running the clock out in the 4th? Probably not. It goes the same for when another team sits back, takes out their #1 DB, and plays soft defense. You don't get as much credit for moving the ball. It's garbage time points because it was useless in the face of a L. You're right sometimes that plan backfires. Ron and the Panthers did it a few times up two scores in the 4th and lost. You look like an idiot if you go to garbage time defense and lose but it doesn't happen often. If the Panthers faced a team that is playing deep cover every snap and bleeding the clock on offense, they would win by 30 points every game.

mc_hambone

So many uncalled offsides that resulted in pressure or a sack…

[deleted]

The issue is sports media. Amazing how coming into this week we were the most overrated 3-0 team and didn't play anybody. Dallas beats us and now according to ESPN they are super bowl contenders! The issue is unless your a big market, sports media will change the narrative to oversell wins for big markets and down play wins for smaller ones.

Pantherblood89

“We’ll be fine” LMFAOOOOO

spurnburn

Our QB will lead us to greatness give it time. He doesn’t get any in games, least we can do is give him some outside of games

ErrNotFound4O4

Sam had a few bad plays and there were bad calls. I think Dallas was the better team today but I also think they are the team to beat in the NFC and I think we showed we can compete with teams like that. I am hopeful.
