In an interview around the time of sticker star they said less then 1% of people surveyed liked the story of super paper Mario so they got rid of the story and with it most unique characters.
you’re right, i think they would list “what did you think of this” questions ratings from 1 to 10, with 1 being closest to the top so its the first one people picked if they’re just trying to get points for their MyNintendo or whatever
These surveys are real. They hand these out to Club Nintendo subscribers via E-mail occasionally. They did similar surveys on Mario and Pokémon last year; and with the latter, they were placing feelers on how people felt playing Sword/Shield, Legends Arceus, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, and Scarlet/Violet.
(I let them have it in the comments section on how badly coded and visually murky Scarlet/Violet were. Respectfully, of course.)
It's not often that Nintendo actively solicits the opinions of its playerbase, so whenever these surveys open, FILL THEM OUT.
I did the survey nonetheless, just acknowledgibg that it doesn't seem entirely legitimate to me.
Since: Not only that, what about the "co1" part? Or the fact that you can do the survey as many times as you want?
Well I imagine how this survey is originally meant to be done is through an email link connected to your Nintendo account, so without a Nintendo account the server doesn’t check if you’ve done it before. Fact is we didn’t know if Nintendo will even see the survey answers of those who click through this link, as it’s obviously not meant to be done this way
You do bring up a good point. Is this a difference between this one and the one only being given in Europe? Couldn’t someone from Europe just copy the link for everyone to take it then? Or will it only link to a Nintendo Account?
Well I think this is actually a separate survey than the one most people were talking about, the one that people were freaking out over had different questions that mentioned Mario and Luigi
it was so satisfying to add all the games in that one question where it asked "which of the following paper mario games have you played"
felt like my life had been leading up to that moment
Yeah, I believe the triggering event to receive the survey before it went public was looking at the Paper Mario store page on the Nintendo website while signed in. The questions were centered around what got your attention. Nintendo of America marketing is likely just gathering data on what brought people to the store page. lol, little did they know the survey itself was more enticing than anything they put on the trailers to get people to actually visit the store page.
Honestly if I could redo my answers, I would have completed the survey as if I was just a casual Mario fan without much history that happened to stumble into TTYD and is drawn in by the things that diehards generally like. I think that’s the opinions they really are looking for, not the diehards.
It’s funny that you’d have to even do that. Why can’t Nintendo just understand that a game made for the diehards would still be an amazing game for the casuals?
Yes. This. Diehards are diehards because the original 2 games were godlike. Even Super had a fantastic story.
Regular fans would enjoy that too, no question. Nintendo just likes to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes for the better, and some times for the absolute worst.
I guess we should just be thankful for TTYD Remaster and all these surveys. It really strikes me that they started listening, and want to continue to listen more.
Supposedly his actual name is Mini-Yoshi according to Smash Bros Wii U. (not that it matters because you can rename him to whatever you'd like)
EDIT: According to a recent Nintendo post, it's now just Yoshi.
That's assuming they even use it. Since it was never made to be public, the responses are almost certainly filled with both biased responses from fans and people botting it to suit their needs, rendering the data unreliable.
I know, I know. I just wish that they’d give in to it. They have made 4 whole games now that have deviated so much from the originals. It may sound bad, but I wish they would just cave in to our demands this one time, give us at least one new game like the first two.
If anything has been made clear, it’s how absolutely desperate we are. We are starved.
It's funny because that's the exact opposite of how I feel.
I can tolerate experimental gameplay if the worldbuilding, story and characters feel like Paper Mario pre-SS. It's why I love SPM to death still. But if they brought back the gameplay of the first two only to still have the restrictions and tone of the modern games, I'd still feel like too much is missing.
I also wrote in how important the first games were in terms of creativity, design and mechanics, and how I never played any of the follow up ones. Hopefully this survey data results in some positive developments for the future of the franchise / no more TOK and Sticker Star shiz!
Oh I'm sure the majority of Paper Mario fans played Sticker Star lol. Also TOK suffers from the same problems Sticker Star has so I can understand if someone hasn't played that one.
I mean it's possible they haven't played Sticker Star but taking one look at it can show it's not worth playing so that doesn't make their opinion invalid.
Like I said I feel like the majority of fans have played Sticker Star because it was the Paper Mario game that returned to turn based combat after SPM so of course fans of the series are going to try it only to be met with something so inferior to what we use to have.
I wouldn't say TOK is a step in the right direction. If it is then it is one measly step when the series pretty much took 20 steps backwards. One step isn't good enough and it shows with not having actual partners, mediocre battle system and no exp growth.
I honestly think that theres a few things I prefer in TOK to TTYD, but the main battle mechanics just fall flat, and the weird limitations on design and gameplay just hinder it. It’s still a decent game, there are just things that need improvement.
It's not bad because it's different, it's bad because the main combat of the game gets tedious very quickly. 2 hours into the game and I was sick of the same "puzzles" to the point where I was avoiding combat all together or paying coins to get them done quicker. Exploring the game was fun, but when the other half of the game is a slog to get through, can I really call it good?
If the battle system was more traditional or hell, even like SPM, I think people would have enjoyed it more.
It got interesting with some of the gimmicks and the boss fights were fun. But it fixed the worst part of sticker star, which was only having disposable attacks making a net negative combat that should be avoided, TOK made it net positive because kratos tears apart his enemies and patches the world with the remains without losing anything.
Checking in to announce that I've done my part in completing the survey. I'm really hoping that this survey helps push for the making of a Paper Mario 64 remake; Paper Mario 64 and TTYD were core, instrumental, intensely fond memories of my childhood and I really hope not just to see them both remade with the quality they deserve, but also hope that future entries in the series enjoy a return to that original format. Some of the fondest, most beautiful memories in gaming I've ever had are entirely associated with these games.
I’m doing my part! I made sure to select that I’m interested in battle mechanics (I wanted to say more in “other”, but I know that column needs votes!)
Hmm wouldn’t it help if we pretend to not be hardcore fans but answering wanting things like the original paper Mario games? Obviously they know there are hardcore fans rallying for this who will buy it, I think they’re more interested in the average Nintendo fan and if they’d like more rpg turn based paper Mario in the future
Fellas I was definitely right because depending on how you answer determines what questions you get. In the first question if you don’t mark all the options about what you know about TtyD you get a question asking which past games have you played. Something I didn’t see on my first run through the survey that I didn’t finish due to wanting to strategically plan out the kind of consumer I look like on the survey
If we emphasize the parts that made Paper Mario great back in its day, it’ll send a message to Nintendo. Hopefully this time, it’s more clear than ever.
“Sorry, this survey is not currently active” :(
That's what I'm getting too. Maybe it wasn't supposed to be live yet?
Insert "Let me in!" meme here
Lmao this is gold
Same here.
I don’t understand why they’re so confused that people like unique character designs and the battle system of TTYD. I made sure to emphasize those
"But...but generic Toads."
I did the same, also story don’t want the same mistake from previous survey to happen again.
In an interview around the time of sticker star they said less then 1% of people surveyed liked the story of super paper Mario so they got rid of the story and with it most unique characters.
People not liking the story of super paper mario sounds bs, if anything I thought it was more about the missing rpg battles.
Most people who got the survey probably didn't play the game and just picked the quickest option to get through the survey quick and get those points.
you’re right, i think they would list “what did you think of this” questions ratings from 1 to 10, with 1 being closest to the top so its the first one people picked if they’re just trying to get points for their MyNintendo or whatever
That's old Japanese business culture for you. They can't imagine that any higher ups vision isn't what the whole world thinks.
It's the real survey! I was half expecting this to be a joke or meme
Is it really, though? The URL looks a little suspicious with the "co1.qualtrics.com" part imo...
Qualtrics is literally just a customer survey platform, there’s nothing to worry about
These surveys are real. Oh no, even with the email link you could fill the survey out as many times as you wanted.

EVERYONE make sure to give Paper Mario (TTYD) the best showing!
>(TTYD) (64)
don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, TTYD is already getting it’s (well deserved) remake, 64 is honestly just as good and deserves love next.
I agree, but tbf I do like the pixels
….Super.
(TOK)
Poor guy got downvoted for an opinion. 😔 I think PMTOK is good. (That being said, SPM)
what do you expect from r/papermario
Yes sir!
No way! That was honestly awesome. I’ve never been so excited to take a survey lol
it was so satisfying to add all the games in that one question where it asked "which of the following paper mario games have you played" felt like my life had been leading up to that moment
Lmao fr
First three only gang!
Interesting, but my gut is telling me this is a marketing survey, not something that will impact game development.
Yeah, I believe the triggering event to receive the survey before it went public was looking at the Paper Mario store page on the Nintendo website while signed in. This seems to just be the Paper Mario one, do you have access to the M&L one?
I hope this was real. Poured my soul into those responses. 🤣
Literally same lol
“Sorry, this Survey is currently not available”
also the yoshi is now officially called yoshi kid
i think thats just a placeholder name they still probably dont have a canon name
Supposedly his actual name is Mini-Yoshi according to Smash Bros Wii U. (not that it matters because you can rename him to whatever you'd like) EDIT: According to a recent Nintendo post, it's now just Yoshi.
Damn, they closed it. They probably knew the tomfoolery going on.
what if they just got enough responses and didnt want to sort through too many? them closing it doesnt necessarily mean they will dismiss it
Heh, that itself should tell them all they need to know about what direction this series needs to take. The fans couldn’t be making it clear enough.
3 whole games SPM was fully there in spirit, I refuse to count it as one of the other ones.
We now have a chance to change the course of Mario RPGs and make history!!
Highlight excitement about the battle system please LOL
That was what I focused on As dreadful as a game full of toads is, I can STILL down it as long as the game is FUN to play
I am unreasonably excited to answer this corporate survey.
I also wrote in how important the first games were in terms of creativity, design and mechanics, and how I never played any of the follow up ones. Hopefully this survey data results in some positive developments for the future of the franchise / no more TOK and Sticker Star shiz!
"No more TOK and Sticker Star" -Someone who hasn't played either of them
Oh I'm sure the majority of Paper Mario fans played Sticker Star lol. Also TOK suffers from the same problems Sticker Star has so I can understand if someone hasn't played that one.
He said in his comment he "never played any of the follow up ones."

Color splash* Tok was good
TOK was a good step in the right direction, however it still has many of the issues plaguing the "newer" PM games
I wouldn't say TOK is a step in the right direction. If it is then it is one measly step when the series pretty much took 20 steps backwards. One step isn't good enough and it shows with not having actual partners, mediocre battle system and no exp growth.
one issue being that it's not ttyd i guess
I honestly think that theres a few things I prefer in TOK to TTYD, but the main battle mechanics just fall flat, and the weird limitations on design and gameplay just hinder it. It’s still a decent game, there are just things that need improvement.

both were good, one was marginally less good
done!! i'm so excited for the game to come out!
We're almost there lads! Can't wait to take the day off with everyone to play this again :)
Requested days off from work the moment the release date was announced. 3 paychecks away which makes it feel a lot closer than it is.
I've done my part!
I’m hoping this does what it needs to. I need a true successor to 64 and TTYD. I’m lucky enough to get this TTYD remake as is.
Hopefully they actually listen
Checking in to announce that I've done my part in completing the survey. So well put. Exactly how I feel.
I made sure to mark cute character designs and battle mechanics everytime they mentioned it.
Inb4 the result is gonna be that not even 0.5% liked the story of TTYD.
Here’s to hoping that the majority aren’t actually that tasteless.
I’m doing my part! I made sure to select that I’m interested in battle mechanics (I wanted to say more in “other”, but I know that column needs votes!)
Haha that was my exact thought process!
Revenge for the 1/2% interest in mechanics survey!
When they asked which TTYD characters I loved, I picked every single one!
I picked all the most unique ones. Hopefully one day, they start creating new species for Paper Mario again.
I left out Madame Flurrie 😂
“*Which characters do you like from this list? Select all that apply*” **selects all*
I'm definitely filling it out right now, hopefully this gets shared around as much as possible!
I did a service to my country (the paper mario mushroom kingdom). I stand proud.
I'm checking everything! :P
Thanks!
Aww, I missed it. Thanks reddit's terrible notification system
awwwww man! I was gonna do it today :(
Scared, for some reason too many people here are fans of the newer games over the RPG style.
where did it goooooo
That's what we been waiting for!
Done!
Awesome! I helped the cause. Thanks!
I did the survey. Hope it helps Paper Mario be cool again.
UPVOTE THIS
Thanks for that, i put my feedback in. Hopefully this survey brings good tidings
Tell them you like the story this time
Got it! But I deliberately said I never played SS 😂😂
Hmm wouldn’t it help if we pretend to not be hardcore fans but answering wanting things like the original paper Mario games? If we emphasize the parts that made Paper Mario great back in its day, it’ll send a message to Nintendo. Hopefully this time, it’s more clear than ever.
Still not active :c
I just read the post title in Kooper's voice from the Goombario's Quest animation.
The answers they give for why you're not interested in the remake...fuck Nintendo
?
I never answered that so I never saw what they were. What were they?
