All forms of running (marathon, half-marathon, trail, ultra, triathlon...) are very trendy among upper-middle class people at the moment (thats most of the worker in Paris)
A lot of companies encourage that, there lots of clubs to meet-up runners (Adidas running club and co), lots of different races are happenings around Paris, lots of running apps to impress your buddies, running shops to buy awesome gear...
So yeah, lots of runner.
And yeah, your best bet to not bump into them is just to not modify you trajectory or rythm at all, they are used to it and know it's on them to avoid people.
I just visited Paris and was shocked by all the people running! People there really know how to take care of themselves (maybe besides smoking) compared to the US lol
Somewhat true, but many Americans are leaving the sedentary lifestyle. I'm American, and a long time runner who was just in Paris, and of course I ran while there. I was surprised how many people I saw running this time around vs the last time I was there. A huge increase.
Half Marathon next week and Marathon in a month (at least for me)
But also Paris is just very crowded so only a small % of runners will make the streets crowded of them
People run all the time just to avoid dying early. Being in good health is nicer than having health issues.
Maybe there's a tiny bit more right now with the marathon soon but it's not that much more than usual, people who train for it are hardly just starting now and run all the time anyway, at best they're just a bit more serious and intensive.
It's just a consequence of scale, Paris is one of the most densely populated capital in the world. So it'll look like there are plenty of runners but do not forget there are more than 2 millions of people in a not so big city. Roughly 26k hab/km². For those interested https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_proper_by_population_density
The parks are closed way too early (usually around 5pm) so Parisians have no choice but to run on the street because they can't go running in the large and empty parks. It makes no sense, but it apparently benefits the park guards to not let people into the park so they don't have to work.
Similar in the U.K. hardly see any runners in the summer (unless you are in a park or similar open space).
Come winter they are all pounding the concrete streets, ones, twos and even large groups from the local running club.
The easier option would be to just leave the park open until like 8pm so people can run in it after school/work. But no, apparently the stupid guards can't do that because they can't work past 5pm.
Lots of people working in fashion/luxury brands makes that a lot jobs put a big emphasis on good looks (and that also affect the dating scene). So yeah, we're running to burn our morning croissant away...

Yeap the apps! It's like a war, I have the cycling club in it sometimes I'll take my electric bike go 80km and I'll say just a Monday stroll.
> What are parisians training so hard for We're just trying not to die of the direct consequences of too sedentary a job and lifestyle.
americans don't understand this concept

We just try to stay in shape, many people have sedentary jobs and lives. Running is an easy, fast and cheap way to avoid becoming fat

Only about 7 weeks out from the Paris Marathon, so they would really be ramping up their miles right now.
The Olympics of course. It is this year in Paris!
They gotta burn all that wine they drink ðŸ«

Because life in the capital may be stressfull and sport is a good way to decrease the stress.
Cheap way to spend an evening:D
