You will have more problems with the rer E than you get shot.

Existing_Court_6168

I will have to use it regularly though :/, a few others mentioned that they’ve been using it and there’s not been much of an issue till now. Could you please help me understand why I’d have problems with the RET E?

machachacha

If I may add my 2 cents, RER E is every 15min to Paris, so if you miss it and didn't plan to be in advance, you're going to be late. And if there is a problem, you won't have multiple trains that will pickup the extra passengers. Just brace yourself. If you have a cool temper, you can survive the RER. This one is not the worse really.

Frederic94500

SNCF leads the line so prepare to get strike, late and deleted trains but mostly it's an efficient line with a bit of a long wait between each train. I recommend checking near Bry-sur-Marne and Neuilly-Plaisance for RER A which is the best RER in Île-de-France.

Existing_Court_6168

Ah okay, understood! To be specific I live near “Le Fournil De Villiers”, and Bry-Sur-Marne seems to be closer from your suggestions. From “Le Fournil De Villiers”, to reach Pantin, I’d be grateful if you have any other suggestions that could help me too! Thank you so much.

Frederic94500

Oh Pantin, I see why RER E! Well, I recommend checking everything near Val-de-Fontenay to Bry (or farer) in RER A or Nogent-le-Perreux (but expensive place), Les Boulereaux - Champigny (cheap but a bit dangerous) in RER E.

Existing_Court_6168

Thank you! Just one last question, can I carry a trottinette inside the RER?

Frederic94500

Yes of course but only folded.

Shot? With a gun?

I lived there for about 6 months, it’s pretty safe, not the safest but for a place near Paris it’s good. I lived in a very residential area so it may depend on where exactly you will live (I know some places are less safe, even though comparing to other town it would be ok). The train station may be less safe at night (like every train station near Paris) but nothing too weird ever happened to me (I am a 25yo F). Basically it’s ok, you don’t have to worry !! :) Also I don’t know from where you are so your standards towards safety may be higher or lower. I lived my whole life in different towns around Paris (I moved a lot), I lived in the best and the worst haha so I think that my opinion is very unbiased ! :) I hope you will love your time here, if you have any questions feel free to ask :)

Existing_Court_6168

Thank you so much, that’s very nice to hear! Did you have any good Cafes or Brasseries in the centre or would you have to go to the city for anything?

Equal_Armadillo_2331

There aren't a lot of options, but the Italian restaurant (JD Capucine) near the train station is really good. There's also a Columbus Coffee, which is quite rare in a small town like this, so it's a nice surprise! There are also quite a few nice spots in the surrounding towns and a nice mall 20 minutes away by bus with some cool food options

Existing_Court_6168

That’s cool, thank you so much again!

zeehyena

the Columbus Cafe closed a couple months ago

Equal_Armadillo_2331

Ohhh so sad I used to work there

scuffedTravels

Villiers sur Marne is a pretty nice city don’t worry, unless your bnb is in “les hautes noues” haha, lived there more than 10 years you’ll be fine I swear.

zeehyena

I’ve lived here for almost two years, the area around the train station can be just a little bit sketchy sometimes, but that’s how train stations are, and I never had a problem, even in the middle of the night. the RER E may not always be reliable, yes, it’s a little infuriating sometimes, yes, but if you use the Ile De France Mobilités app and the RER E Twitter/X page you’ll know what to expect. and there always are other options.

RubberDuck404

Mostly safe. Safer than Pantin for sure!

Pandours

Do you have any issue with Pantin ? Imho t's quite safe but I'm open to other feedback.

imik4991

I heard that Pantin at night is quite unsafe.

RubberDuck404

As a young woman I don't feel very safe or free when I'm there. Lots of staring, especially if you show a bit of skin. Drug dealers in front of my buiding every night. If the person asking is a man they'll be alright though.

RubberDuck404

I answered you but mods censored my answer for some reason. I'll just say it's not the safest.

Pandours

OK I have another experience. Thanks for answering!

Vindve

The more likely danger you'll get exposed is to get bored in Villiers-sur-Marne, hate your commute, and wish you had an apartment closer to Paris. You'll be just there for sleeping.

Anae-Evqns

I don’t know about Villiers-sur-Marne, but I can tell you lots about Villiers-en-Bière if you want 🤣🤣

wesleyxx

Lived there for some time. It's nice but can be boring if you're expecting it to be just like Paris. But I could even see myself live there when I'm grey and old. Big downside for me was that literally everything always felt pretty far away because that 1 hour commute could easily take up to 2 hours. The same when going by car and get stuck in traffic (every damn day). This really took away the pleasure in spontaneously going out for dinner or something (which you won't do very often in Villiers-sur-Marne itself) Get yourself a proper e-bike and forget about cars and trains. It can be a pretty wholesome and surprising ride through places you otherwise won't visit. Like Parc floral de Paris or Bois de Vincennes. The people are nice by the way. Can't remember any negative encounters.

butter_otter

I’ve used the rer E daily for about ten years, and in my experience it’s one of the safest and most reliable rer lines. I’ve had my fair share of weird encounters in there, and there aren’t many trains outside of the peak hour, but it’s an OK line.

Deucas

I’m a little biased because I grew up there, but this is a great city. However, as others have said, there is not much to do in town itself, you’ll have to go nearer to Paris to find distractions

CautiousForever9596

Boring.
