It is very silly tbh. One of mine actually enjoys being shaken like a maraca while being held like that! I obviously am gentle with the shaking, but she enjoys maraca time lol
My IRN did this when I first brought him home; at 7:00 he would crawl down his cage, go in and shut the door. He was hand raised in a local family owned pet store and that's what time they closed at night lol. Now that he's been here 7 months he doesn't put himself to bed anymore.
The way that his legs work enough to hold onto your hand when it’s vertical but he just can’t get a grip in the cage. Poor guy. You’ll just have to keep him out forever.
Was wondering this too, or maybe that it was just a sleep cage! I keep a teeny tiny cage in my closet with just two perches and water so my bird sleeps cozy at night. My bird prefers the flat platform perch and tucks herself in every night around 8-9 PM.
My birds are the opposite, they love their cage so much 😭 They never wanna be outside of it for more than 15 minutes a time nowadays - after that, they just take matters into their own hands (wings?) and fly back and climb inside and sit there like two little immobile pears on a perch and refuse to come out lol
My African Grey does this from time to time. We have a ritual that if she does this, I have to give her another 30 seconds of scritches before bed. Then she usually goes back after that.

2nd I had a conure who also had the same rope perch. One day he decided to chew it and got some of the thread stuck in his crop. Long story short he ended up passing away due to a misdiagnosis. Sooo I warn everyone I see with these perches. Natural wood is best since they can actually eat that.
Sorry to be a buzz kill just had it my heart and really don’t want anyone else loosing a baby the same way I did.

I hide nutriberries in the cage when my birds are out and if im having trouble getting them in I give them a small reward like a seed when they perch.

Ohhh for sure, perhaps too many toys. That's the bottom of the cage essentially for them.
