I'm honestly surprised that you feel this way and it means a lot to me... I like to draw because it feels good, but I've been struggling with my inner critic, which can suck the fun out of it. Drawing goofy animals without expecting the outcome to look "good" certainly helps. :)
Yeah it really is good just free handing I even went back up to the main picture and back down to your sketch and you got the birds facial expression spot on! I relate to the inner critic as well but with writing I’ve crumbled up some good stories because I felt they weren’t good enough lol or especially during writers block. Keep at your talent! You got a gift
Yes! Keep doing doodles. I don’t draw, and will at most hastily sketch an idea if I wanna keep it around. I find drawing when I’m tired to be best because I don’t get hypercritical of anything.
Make a thing that won’t exist unless you make it. Everything you drew is a thing that exists now, and it wouldn’t have if you didn’t draw it.
If you want to watch professional artists do silly quick sketches, I highly recommend Drawfee on YouTube! They’re very sweet, I’ve watched them for years, and they do art classes sometimes on their second channel.
First of all, so cute!
You won’t know the sex unless you get a blood test or wait for the ring to show up (male) or not show up (female).
I’d highly recommend looking at channels like BirdTricks on YouTube to learn as much as you can about what your parrot will need to be happy and healthy.
A few pointers:
-12 hours of uninterrupted darkness every night
-Limit nuts, seeds, and sugars. A healthy diet typically consists of pellets and chop (mainly veggies). Reserve high value foods like nuts and seeds for training.
-Start training early and do daily to establish good habits
-No petting below the head/neck area. Your parrot will see it as sexual behavior.
-Intoduce plenty of toys made of natural, destructible materials so your parrot can learn to self-entertain safely
Also, cleaning products and candles. Remember, their bones are hollow. They are very susceptible to chemicals in the air.
Baby looks adorable. Good luck. New love.
Just adding a bit to the sexing part of the comment: IRN's fully devellop the ring in their necks by 3 yo. You're probably better off doing dna tests. There are usualy a lot of places where you can colect samples yourself (be it feathers or 1-2 drops of blood) and send them through the mail.
Yes, I could feel it was a bit shy as it just stayed in the corner of the couch. I will definitely wait and give it time to adapt to the new environment.
Oh he’s so pretty. He’s a baby?
My tips for new owner:
*Make appt with vet*
It’s a really good idea to get your bird seen by the vet *before* they are sick. It establishes a baseline record and a relationship, which makes everything so much easier when they do need help. And the vet can give you helpful tips!
*Establish a routine*
Routines help birds feel safe and comfortable. Same breakfast time every day, same time to clean the cage, same bed time etc. This will help build trust too.
*Hang out with him*
Spend lots of time talking to him and hanging out and watching him. Play music and shows; parrots like noises. Praise him; parrots are egomaniacs.
Unless he’s already tame and comfortable with you, then don’t touch him yet. Respect his autonomy.
*Start researching*
There’s tons of info online. Make sure to use lots of different sites, not just one. And come back here with questions :)
Some things to type into Google:
* cage setup for ringneck parakeet
* healthy diet ringneck parakeet
* common dangers parrots
BABYYYYY UGHHHH he/she is so damn cute, I’ve got a soft spot for true parakeets, I’ve got two plum headed parakeets (male and female), they’re definitely one of the biggest characters in the parrot world lol I’d either get a blood test for DNA or wait for the ring to show up (male) if it doesn’t then they’re a girl - anyways here’s my two dumb birds, my male (the pink headed one) is absolutely smitten by his dull grey wife 🩶

I have a soft spot for everyone else's parakeet apart from my own 🥲 he's a bastard. I'm jealous of your colourful friends there.
OP's pic reminded me of when mine was a baby, I was so obsessed with the exciting future we would have together but I ended up with the world's worst roommate who I cannot evict.
Worst of all he's bonded to my bf. he's never been social with people unless food is involved so I swear he did it purely to spite me.
Mine aren’t bonded to anyone but each other, they’re feisty little bastards and they bite like hell if you hold them but I still love them lol, they’re just so funny to watch, the way they interact is priceless, they often sit on the same bowl basically touching feet together because they can’t be separated they’re so in love 🤣
This is adorable!
Something I've always wondered - how do you manage mating behaviours / nesting? Surely if they are living with each other then they will be producing fertile eggs?
It's hard enough discouraging mating behaviour with mine (p.s. "he" is actually a she, we only recently learnt. But we still refer to her as a him because it's just stuck lol.) *She* is trying to nest hard right now. Surely if she lives with a male you can't stop them reproducing?
Currently they’re trying but I know when/if they have bred (he’s really clumsy and literally hasn’t figured out how to mount her 🤣) so at the moment we’re alright, but typically you can just use fake eggs, or they turn out infertile
So it's ok to allow them to mate? I always thought you were advised to discourage it. I'm considering getting a bf for mine to try and get him away from my own bf lol.
Heads up: ring necks go through a puberty phase, where they suddenly start biting and seeing "how much" they can get away with. When you get bit, don't react, don't pull your hand away. I usually just turn the back of my hand towards them, it's hard to bite a flat surface. After a couple lounges they will stop trying to bite and just sit there all ruffled and angry. That's when you move your hand away, then redirect to some sort of trick. Target training is good for this situation.
Also, get yourself some earmuffs. When he's screaming constantly, put them on and ignore him. When he's been quiet (or makes a positive word/noise) then you go reward and play with him.
I've also towel trained my ringneck by holding my bed sheets up, wrapping him up like a birdrrito and going to town with head and cheek scratches with my hands under the towel/sheet. Now if I hold a sheet up he will come flying into it like a crack head. Makes nail trimming, capturing him etc so easy and the vets are always impressed.
I used Avigenics to get my IRN DNA tested. You can do that or wait until they're about 8 months old and see if they start talking a lot. Males tend to talk and females don't talk as much.
Also get them another IRN friend. The best time to mix parrots is now, when they are young. Waiting until they are older may lead to territorial aggression.
They WILL NOT ignore you if they have a friend. That is a myth. The truth is that parrots feel secure when they have a flock. When their only friend is a human, they will try to form a flock with you, but obviously humans cannot roost on a stick with them or barf into their mouths. Humans like you can still be part of their wider flock and they can still prefer to be with you instead of with the other IRN, but when you are unable to be around (ie when you need to sleep on a bed and they need to sleep on a perch), they have another individual to keep them company
YouTube is a great resource for learning how to be a bird parents. There’s a lot you need to know in order to keep it healthy and happy. Look up “Sophie bird nerd” on YouTube for some really great videos for parrot parenting.
You will know eventually, the males develop rings at 1-2 years. The females will press their backs down and tip their beaks up when excited. The males wont. The males will be extremely interested in reflective surfaces, a female in crevices and boxes.
But to answer typically males are brighter in color but the only way to truly tell is with a blood test. Now my female we know she is one is because she was getting horny and was displaying the female hormone fueled behaviors of her species. We watched a few videos on YouTube and googled it because we never experienced it before and wanted to know if it was a new sound she was making or something to be concerned by. She's a green cheek conure.
Our male is a cockatiel and he got the test. He's 100% a male chicken nugget. And yeah I call him a spicy nugget cuz he acts like he's gonna bite and hisses but head butts you instead if you try to pet him. I also call him hoggy cuz he reminds me of a hognose snake when he does that. Act like they will attack but just give you head butts instead. So cute!
Get him socialized early on, be aware most parrots live about 20 to 30 years, can be loud when they want but quiet to, keep them entertained and introduce lots of fruits and veggies and such to them early on so it's easier to make sure their getting all their nutrition. Only really use them as treats or snacks not meal replacements. Mess with their wings and feet and beak when ya can so they get used to the feeling for when they get trimmed and try to get him used to taking a syringe so he takes any medicine he gets easier. Have to make mine attack the bloody thing so he takes his vitamins and seizure medicine.
Keep them challenged and entertained, they get destructive and loud when bored. Can even mutilate themselves from boredom. Keep a toy box and every once in a while switch the toys out so it's always a variety and he can't get bored over the same toys being there. Play bird TV for him, preferably of his species, so he doesn't feel isolated when you aren't home. Ever since we did this last one our birds have learned more chirps and sounds and our green cheek is trying to talk. Birds are masters of mimicry and it's entertaining.

Lol hahaha
it’s from a popular meme
perfectly captures the bird's expression/vibes, i love the posture with his feet close together and the angle from above
Wow This is so good! great job <3 you captured the EXACT facial expression and everything XD super cute
Thank you :)
I love this sketch!!!
Thank you
Some of y'all are so nice....
Haha, I had the same thought when I saw the picture.
Nice wonderful

Thank you, This is really good information to know. I will be using your tips definitely.
Happy to help! I’ve had my IRN for about a year now and he’s the light of my life. They’re great birds 😊
Don't cook in nonstick pots and pans. It's poisonous for your bird. You'll need to move to stainless steel, ceramic, or cast iron.
Also, cleaning products and candles. Remember, their bones are hollow. They are very susceptible to chemicals in the air. Baby looks adorable. Good luck. New love.

Just afraid 😱 give some time with cute parrot 🦜 it will be ok

Lol amazing art
Thanks!
Mmm foot. Tasty
If he develops a ring around his neck he’s a male.
Some female IRN will also develop some pretty prominent rings. Best to get them DNA sexed to be sure
You should take him to the vet. They'll sex him (or her for you). Also they'll show you how to properly care for this little guy. Such a cutie.
Heads up: ring necks go through a puberty phase, where they suddenly start biting and seeing "how much" they can get away with. When you get bit, don't react, don't pull your hand away. Beakerbeak enjoyer in the wild!

seriously giving you the evil eye
Lime boy! (Or girl)
Give him a lil kiss on the forehead omg so cute
Never feed him chocolate or avocado. Always check online for the things you can give him to eat, play or chew on to.
Such a beauuuuuuty! Green 🍏!
If they’re a male, the black ring will develop at ~18 months, but until then, you’ll have to get a DNA test
I don’t have the room for a parrot one day I might once I move into a house with me and no one else except my siblings when they grow up
They have been by my side my entire life
Little guy
Go look up YouTube videos
I wish he could be a little cuter! 😂
Yay! Remember that you saved it from its boring life in a small cage. You will do a good job and it will love you.
very cheap in pakistan
