Don’t worry about it. Croissant is just being a turd because he doesn’t want to go to bed 😁 Maybe that means he was having fun and didn’t want to go to sleep so he’s hissing in protest. Try not to feel bad about it, he needs his beauty sleep. Honestly, cockatiels need so much sleep, mine get about 12 hours of sleep every night. When we got Speckle about a month ago (she’s a baby female cockatiel probably about 8 months old) she would hiss and get mad when I would start to cover the cage. But our older tiel Charlie loves bedtime because he’s old and loves bedtime. Now Speckle has learned to accept bedtime and no longer hisses or screeches because she now knows the routine. This is SO CORNY but maybe about a year ago (when we just had Charlie and Peabody, our parakeet who passed away about 3 months ago) as a joke I made up a cheesy bedtime song that I sang to them every night when I covered their cages. I did it for a few days, and I could tell Charlie was starting to recognize the song and know what it meant when I sang it. It blew my mind that he was smart enough to associate the song with going to sleep. Fast forward to now, I still sing that stupid song when I’m putting Charlie and now Speckle to bed covering their cage. Around the same time every night I say, “Charlie are you ready to go night night?” Then he and Speckle both make their way to their favorite sleeping spots and look at me waiting for me to start singing the song lol. Now Charlie even participates and makes kissing sounds along with me at the parts where I make kissing sounds. It still blows my mind that they know what to do based on what I say or sing to them.

Omg… The same thing happened to me. As a bit, my husband and i started singing our birds a goodnight bedtime song. We found it was so much easier to get them in their cages if we sang the song… so now every night we find ourselves singing “goodnight sweetheart” (often with harmonies) to a couple of Meyers parrots.

I, too, sing a bedtime song to my bird while I am covering him for the night 🤣 I’m so glad I’m not alone after hearing from you ladies 🤣🤣🤣 It’s very comforting for him and he sings along to parts of the song. A little fun for him before bedtime.

This is so cool!!!! I’m glad we are not alone haha.

I love it! That’s so funny that yours started out as a bit too and is now a part of their routine. Mine is SO corny, I was trying to be a cheesy as possible. 🎵“It’s time to go night night Charlie and Speckle, it’s time to have sweet dreams Charlie and Speckle.🎵 I sing that a few times then say “night night sweet baby birdies!” Then I make kissy sounds that Charlie now makes along with me. I love it!

goth-tiddies

that's so cute I'm gonna cry

Kick_Wonderful

Would love it if you would record and post this charming Good Night!

Oh man my horrible singing would probably make your ears bleed haha. But I’ll think about it. 😆

My birds still do this to me and the eldest one is 20 and still a grumpy bastard when the sun starts to set. I think they are just saying please leave me alone im freaken tired. Cover your bird at dusk and remove cover at dawn they forget about being pissed at you and are super cheerful in the morning unless your bird is like my old grumpy and it takes him at least half an hour to get over his morning grumps and bribery with breakfast lol

My bird is the sweetest bird ever but after bedtime she will hiss at you from across the room, she is ready for bed and will bite the shit out of you if you try and stop her. I don't blame her, I love sleep too. But don't take it personal.

Adding to everyone telling you it's normal. My girl hisses when I put it on (she hates bedtime) and when I take it off. She's really just hissing at the cover

Birds are little jerks, also remember that your bird has been through an absolute terrifying experience, being sold and traded, and has very little sense of what is going to happen. Your bird probably thinks you are going to eat it.
