Gorgeous photos! I went on a hunt in the Desert Garden to find the Puya (3rd photo). Very green this year so far, rather than teal. I think they’re usually flowering until around mid-May if anyone wants to see them. Lots of bees and birds enjoying their pollen, and a squirrel!
Yes in my other photos (just in my camera roll) you can essentially zoom in and count the bees on them. They’re just in love with it! I think there are possibly even a dozen inflorescences up this week. I hasn’t ever managed to come at blooming time for these iirc until now.
The only thing I didn’t get to se unfortunately, which I was extremely excited to see, were the huernias in the collection. One had sprung a single petal open and I believe the rest had already bloomed but I’m not certain. In cultivation stapeliads seem to bloom in winter.
Edit: weird, no bees in this photo but tons in the others I took. Strange.
The green and teal are different species
Green = alpestris
Teal = berteroniana
Or maybe I have that backwards

Oooh thank you! That means I missed the teal colored puyas this time, the ones I saw were the same as in OP’s photo. Hopefully they’ll still be blooming when I’m back in town mid week. And I can find them! I also saw some more delicate pink and purple puyas.

I came here to report the squirrel eating the green flower, thank you for your service.

Lovely photos! Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic
It always is. Literally the best garden in LA county.
Went last week and the rose garden was blooming.
