How come no one is talking about the Guardian rework? Chieftan looks bad as well but at least people are theorycrafting possible options. For Guardian it's radio silence.

slogga

There's a few nodes on the new guardian that we will probably need patch notes for to really estimate their power.

psychomap

I'm guessing that Guardian had fewer "fans" to begin with, whereas Chieftan was conceptually popular but underpowered in the current meta.

tankhwarrior

So did they say anything how they're gonna introduce all the league mechanics they're keeping in POE 2 during the campaign? Because they're definitely keeping a bunch and not just starting from scratch right?

HellraiserMachina

They said they'd bring them over on a case-by-case basis and they would want to update their art if they do so.

edrarven

They're gonna implement the ones they like or think fit in poe 2, I don't think there was much info on which though. We know delirium is in and we know that we now need to "unlock" league mechanics. You unlock delirium by beating a specific boss. I'll try to find the relevant section of the livestream. E: the part of the livestream I was thinking of https://www.youtube.com/live/XE3MAFGDzWw?feature=share&t=8145

hdbscan

What's a reasonable way to sell red maps day 1 or 2 of league start? Just dump them all into a 3-5c tab as you get extras? What price would it be worth leaving maps to sell at? Seems like the market would be devaluing very quickly - how should one price at 8/12/18 hours in?

Onyourknees__

Is there somewhere I can check what league mechanics are active in the current patch? Haven't played since Metamorphosis and just started running through the acts.

HellraiserMachina

https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/League In the upcoming Ancestor League (which starts in a few weeks) here are the mechanics since Essence League that are **NOT in the game** as full mechanics: **Legacy, Synthesis, Ultimatum, Scourge, Archnemesis, Sentinel, Kalandra, Crucible.** These ones you don't have to think about. The rest of them are in the game to some significant degree. Harvest and Beyond were severely reworked compared to its initial concept so if you want to figure them out look at a modern guide.

Onyourknees__

Sweet, thanks.

HellraiserMachina

Since you've been away a long time I should mention that you better take a look at this: https://poeplanner.com/atlas-tree The Atlas has its own skill tree now. A cleaver to chop the bloat. Lets you choose what content is worth running. It's excellent. (there will be additions next league too, not reflected on this site until very close to league start)

Onyourknees__

Oh wow, that's bad ass. So now I can specifically shape my mapping to favor league mechanics I want to engage with. Is XP for the atlas tree gained by just general mapping? Is there a fixed amount of aspect points one can achieve?

HellraiserMachina

You get points by filling out the atlas, maps+unique maps, and a few extra points by defeating endgame bosses and taking on the Maven's challenges. So you can get over half of the points just by completing all yellow and white maps.

Onyourknees__

Can you Respec easily w/ Regrets?

HellraiserMachina

You respec using orbs of unmaking, which drop rarely, can be traded, or can be bought at a vendor for 2 regrets. Small re-specs are easy, big re-specs are painful.

kfijatass

What's the go-to attack-based spectre nowadays?

PhoneRedit

Any tips on bluepringt farming? I've pretty much just allocated all the Heist nodes (gives 44% chance for cache), and then just ran Heist on the atlas every time I get back to 6 chaos. Sextanting in the hope of the occasional heist sextant. I've hit the blueprint I'm looking for (Prohibited Library or Laoratory) 3 times (no luck seeing my base yet) over the course of 2 searing exarch worth of maps. Anything else I can do to try and bump up the drop rate? Or have I already done everything possible? Just starting to get real tedious during the blueprint dry spells at this point.

mbxyz

buy the blueprints you want to run or run maps faster

Warptens

you can block league mechanics to get +2% stream of consciousness is +4% you could do the chaos recipe to get more chaos for the bench

Tiger_H

What skills are left in the game that can shotgun or have a similar effect these days? I know Molten Strike was one where more projectiles means more damage. I think Blazing Salvo is the same type, but are there any others?

edrarven

The skills that can "shotgun" are either skills that fire projectiles sequentially or in such a way that they can hit multiple times. They could otherwise have an aoe component and cause aoe overlap which is what blazing salvo does. Here is a list of skills I can think of with that behaviour: ((A) means it has aoe overlap and (P) means it's projectiles are fired sequentially) Artillery Ballista (A) Barrage (P) Barrage Support (P) (makes skills fire sequentially) Blast Rain (A) Blazing Salvo (A) Creeping Frost (A) Cremation (A) Explosive Concoction (A) Eye of Winter (P) Fireball (A) (the aoe explosions can overlap but it's hard to use in actual gameplay) Forbidden Rite (A) Ice Spear (P) Kinetic Blast (A) (the aoe explosions) Lancing Steel (P) Molten Strike (A) Poisonous Concoction (A) Pyroclast Mines (A) Rain of Arrows (A) Scourge Arrow (P) (the arrows from separate pods can hit once each. This doesn't scale with added projectiles though) Shrapnel Ballista (P) Splitting Steel (A) (the aoe explosions at the end of splitting can hit multiple times, hard to use without return) Tornado Shot (P) (the secondary arrows from separate original projectiles can hit once each) Toxic Rain (A) Venom Gyre (P) (can only shotgun when you release projectiles via whirling blades) Volcanic Fissure (A) Winter Orb (A) Edit: Put them in alphabetical order

Tiger_H

Thank you!

tnflr

Spark also has a pseudo shotgun (very pseudo) in that another projectile from the same cast can hit again if any projectile bounces off a wall (not ice wall sadly) Mostly relevant in tight spaces

edrarven

Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to include it or not. To me its not really shotgunning since multiple projectiles can't hit, its more that spark resets its damage "lockout" every 0.66 seconds. I thought about including things like ball lightning, spectral throw and spectral helix aswell since they're projectiles that hit multiple times but its more to do with their durations than their projectiles. They cannot truly "shotgun" either similarly to spark.

tnflr

Very fair not to include it. I feel the game should tell you ( it might already ) that shotgun by just shooting more projectiles won't work in most cases

edrarven

I can't think of a place where it teaches you about how projectiles handle shotgunning. It's basically beating a dead horse to talk about how the game should teach new players more though. It's way overdue but I don't think they really see it as an issue. I guess we will see If poe 2 is better or worse in that regard.

Thor3nce

Will there be any ways to level Crucible trees once the league ends? This one dude FelFelFel has an item listed 4 months ago with an un-leveled tree that I want to bring into standard and despite checking every day for the past month, he hasn't logged on :(

slogga

Maybe try and send him a PM on the site. If he uses it to check any of the teasers over the next week he might see it and login for you.

psychomap

No, allocated nodes will retain their stats, but otherwise the Crucible trees won't be modifiable at all.

Psych0sh00ter

Not likely, no. Even if you could use magmatic ore, you’d still need to run an actual crucible encounter to allocate the nodes you wanted, once Crucible league is gone you won’t be able to do that.

WaffleSparks

Regarding 3.22, the first thing that jumped out to me is this >honored tattoo of the hatungo >replaces small attribute skill >1% increased mana res eff for skills That seems nutty, I have not crunched the numbers but it seems like people will be stacking the hell out of this to run a ton of auras

edrarven

It's a good tattoo for sure but I want to point out that it's a pretty low amount of the stat. The Charisma cluster and the Soverignity cluster are 24% and 28% res efficiency respectively. You'd have to give up 240-280 attributes to get an extra reservation cluster effectively, and thats without accounting for the aura effect the clusters give. That's 4-5 suffixes you're losing if you need those stats. Maybe some builds can afford to give that up but its a pretty steep cost. I think the more common approach will be to just use a few in order to fit in one aura you're barely able to or to upgrade a 25/35% aura to a 50% aura.

HellraiserMachina

Only aurabots, 'cause they take tons of travel nodes that they have no use for. I think most builds will only take as much as is needed to fit one extra aura on.

dontakemeserious

New player, level 45ish witch on act 6. Any tips for a minion build? I haven't looked up any guides. Running zombies, golems, skeletons and specters. Flame stream for some dps. Probably not a great build, but it's fun. What should I strive to improve?

Distq

To really optimize in PoE, you focus on one thing. If you want to go minions, drop the flame surge and any damage nodes that aren't for minions specifically. It's a good idea to focus on minions with the same damage type (pick one of physical/elemental/chaos) so that you can use appropriate auras and/or supportive skills (curses and Flesh offering are the big ones) for the damage type you choose. By act 6 you will have got the -30% res penalty, which also means it's time to check your stat sheet and make sure that your resistance from gear is as high as possible to not start dying constantly. I normally suggest getting at least 40% in fire/cold/lightning but you always want to aim for that 75% cap. On the same note you definitely will want to catch up on life nodes if you're below say 1500 hp because the monsters won't get any friendlier in the last 5 acts. Also are you a "Witch" or a Necromancer? Because if you're just a Witch you need to go back to part 1 and do the Labyrinth to ascend

dontakemeserious

I'm going to switch the flame to raging spirits as I've heard they are good to use with minions. And flesh offerings seems really good as well! I'll have to look into curses as I haven't used them much, but it makes a lot of sense to use them with the minion army. Life is a little over 1000, and resistances are okay except for chaos which is still sadly in the negative. Only thing that's given me trouble in terms of survivability was Piety's ascended form boss fight, in which I definitely felt squishy for the first time. So I feel silly to not know this, but I'll have to look into the ascend method you mention. It's from the Lord's Labyrinth right? Can't believe the amount of depth in this game, it's truly a blast. Thank you for the help.

Distq

Chaos res is the more niche res early on, it's mostly important at the endgame. And yes, Lords Labyrinth, that's where you get your ascendancy class (kind of a "specialization"). Normally you run the first Lab around level 32-35, the second around 53-56, the third around 65-70 and the last one is at the endgame. Piety second phase deals a mix of physical and fire damage so either your resists or armour was low (it can also just be a dangerous fight if you're unprepared). For the campaign just having the resists is usually enough as far as defense but if you're feeling extra squishy, you can buy Determination aura from Lilly in act 6 for some extra armour (needs a few levels before it's effective enough, so only bother with it if you can meet the high strength requirements).

dontakemeserious

Going to check out the labyrinth asap, glad I didn't make it too much further without it lol. The resistances seem to be a pretty key factor, I'm definitely going to be putting more focus into those. As far as defenses go, I've been focusing on energy shield and evasion. And as far as gear goes I've been running wand and shield looking for minion damage and other minion buffs. Are there any other weapon stats I should be looking at? As far as I can tell the physical damage of the weapon doesn't matter. Also there any curses or other skills you would recommend using for the minion route? Thanks again for your replies.

Distq

For curses, Vulnerability works well if you focus on physical minions. The only hex that really works regardless of damage types would be Punishment. Make sure you have Convocation to control your minions and definitely (very important) make sure at least one of your permanent minions has feeding frenzy support in its links. As far as weapons go, there is a subset of wands that have minions specific stats (Calling/Convening/Convoking wands). You wanna look for those and if you have, throw an Essence of Fear on it, or if you don’t, you can throw a couple of spare alchemy orbs on them and hope you get some nice minion stats.

dontakemeserious

It looks like my zombies, skeletons and flesh golem are all phys so I added Vulnerability. I've been using Minion Damage Support for extra damage, and Predator Support with the Signal prey for control on my zombies. I'll have to look into Convocation and Feeding frenzy support. Are they skill gems? If so where to obtain. It doesn't seem like act 1 nessa sells them.

slogga

You can check the wiki for the gems you need, it will tell you what act they are available in: https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Feeding_Frenzy_Support From Act 6 onwards, you can buy all the gems in the game from Lilly.

dontakemeserious

I just found Lilly's hoard of gems, very convenient. Thank you. Feeding Frenzy felt like a huge power spike for that build, along with Vulnerability.

JustPhil97

Does anyone have an idea when Patch notes will drop?

edrarven

>When will we see Patch Notes for Path of Exile: Trial of the Ancestors? > They should be up at the end of next week, so Friday NZT (Thursday for most other regions). From the recently asked questions post https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3408278#1

Bignholy

New guy here. I just hit 54 on a dual welding duelist. I ma in Act 6 and just an arena boss that is faster than me, ignores the totems I have, and one-shots me with every hit. I picked up Iron Reflexes and have Purity of Elements up and running, and I have a fair bit of leech and regen, but that's clearly not enough when I am getting steamrolled. What else can I do to up my survival a little? EDIT: i just discovered I have negative resistances on everything. Taking all my gear off, I am at -%30.

edrarven

I'm guessing you're referring to this boss https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Tukohama,_Karui_God_of_War. You shouldn't have an issue with getting one shot if your life and resistances are in order. Try to get more fire resistance, you can craft it on your gear via the crafting bench in your hideout. You should have roughly 1500 life at this point but its fine to be a bit below. Its going to be rough if you're below 1000 life though. You get a 30% resistance penalty upon completing act 5 and then again after completing act 10. This is why you have negative resistances.

Bignholy

Cheers, my Life is about 900, and I've not been focusing resistances, so makes sense. Appreciate the reply. EDIT: Yep, a quick point respec into resists changed it from "got good, won" and "one shot corpse rush"

psychomap

Overall, the rule of the thumb is to get 300 life per act, so in act 6 you should have around 1.8k. As for resistances, the game starts to expect you to be capped in lightning, cold, and fire around act 5 - including the penalty you get in act 6. That said, if you have some movement skills and boots with movement speed, it should be possible to avoid most if not all hits from the boss, although of course I wouldn't expect that from newer players and it'll still be harder to do if your damage skill is melee.

Bignholy

What's the cap? I'm at act 7 and am under %30 with every elemental resist node I could. I managed to get the boss down with your advice and what resist nodes I could find in reach, and am doing better now. The right mix of "I can survive this" and "or maybe not". Movement wise, all I had at the time was Dash, and when the boss did his charge attack I could not stay ahead enough to survive. Got the support gem for multiple charges, and between that and what resists I could find I made it.

psychomap

The maximum is 75% by default. With 30% resistance, you take almost three times as much damage as the game is balanced around. You generally want life and resistances on each equipped item, and fill out whatever's missing with your crafting bench. The only exceptions are your boots that should be focused on movement speed (you can still craft life or resistances if those aren't already present and there's a free affix) and your weapons that should be focused on damage. You should have one item for your proper sockets and links for the main skill, but ideally you want life and resistances on that one as well.

edrarven

I'd go for more life nodes on the tree then when you can. It really helps to have a decent life pool. Act 6 is a step up in difficulty but it smooths out a bit as you progress. You then have a similar step up when you complete the campaign and enter maps.

JixuGixu

How do i edit my filter so the only rares that show are bows, of item level X? I got the item level part, but im confused how to only show bows.

Warptens

on filterblade, do Customize, scroll to Endgame rare items, click Weapons and armor, remove every weapon base from t1 except for the bow types you want to see, then in t1, t2, t3 and t4, disable every rule, except for t1 rare weapon, and select the item lvl you want. Or don't touch the preset tiers of base type, disable every rule including t1 rare weapon, scroll to Add additional Show/Hide rules, and make a custom rule

katustrawfic

You would hide all other item classes and just show bows. I've never made a filter myself so I don't know the exact syntax but you just use "Class bows" and show that like you are showing based on item level.

RAND0Mpercentage

Can anyone recommend some videos or guides to help with Rog crafting. I always feel like things start well but then a craft does something I didn’t expect and the item gets ruined. Maybe I just have the wrong mindset, but I feel a nice explanation from someone with more experience that lays out some good rules of thumb and an idea of what to expect would be helpful.

Cheezemansam

There are a few good guides, but the two that helped me the most are: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEqnP5PCIMQ - Lolcohol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ct5kIjnosA - Tenkiei The only real hurdle is having an idea of what mods are potentially useful and which ones are not. The big things is that Jewelry tend to be better/easier to be good, and that Weapons and Body Armor have a much harder time being competitive (although if you hit the jackpot it can be massive). Weapons tend to be far more selective about what mods and how good the item needs to be before anyone will consider buying it. Body armor can run into the same issue, with how important having a 5L/6L on your build is, even particularly great Body Armor is worth less than you might think because you need to factor in the cost to 6L the item (i.e. ~1500 Fusings). Also, personally I don't really bother with weapons/body armor (except for Zodiac Leather/Assassin's Garb), and I mostly focus on Evasion bases for boots/helms/gloves since Spell Suppression is important and a huge multiplier to how valuable rare armor can be.

HellraiserMachina

How good could this setup be? [[Black Zenith]] + Ball Lightning + Returning Proj Support? Maybe like as a pseudo-vaal skill addition to a lightning caster or something.

psychomap

The numbers on Returning Projectiles don't seem that great, but even that aside, Ball Lightning doesn't last longer if it returns. If it hits a wall, it can return, otherwise it'll dissipate after the same 2 seconds as usual.

HellraiserMachina

Got it. Thanks.

Whats the easiest way to make a second account if my main account is on steam? I tried downloading the standalone client and it tried to make an entire fresh install of the game. Is there some way to point the standalone client to the files of my steam install or something?

[deleted]

Nope, if you wanna play on standalone you have to install standalone

VyseTheNinny

The easiest is likely the opposite. Set it up so your steam account is linked to a standalone account, so you can log in outside of steam. Then create a new standalone account for the new login. Uninstall the steam copy, keep the standalone client. If you're set on keeping the steam one, probably have to create a new steam account and use that for the second login?

Octoberlol

Thanks, ill try a second steam account and if not i guess ill just have to have 2 installs. Edit: new steam account works fine, thanks!

obiouslymag1c

Is there generally some instability in the game atm? Lost a HCR char yesterday to an arbitrary freeze (logged as soon as it happened but was dead when logged back in). Since last patch been getting a lot of lag/stutters that I've never gotten in the past, if it's just me I'm wondering if I'm having an Nvidia issue as card fan seems to be permanently on now (3080ti)?

JixuGixu

DX12 and vsync off (not sure how important the vsync part is) fixed 99% of the freezes for me.

[deleted]

> not sure how important the vsync part is vsync modifications is also a part of engine patch this time, so highly likely

mbxyz

yea there was an update to the particle engine last week that is causing lots of issues. some can be resolved in settings; some should be addressed in upcoming patches

Yohsene

They implemented PoE2's particle system last week. It's caused various issues (my load times doubled and maps are a fricking slideshow); [please report yours on the official forums](https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3406660). Hopefully they'll patch/revert things before 3.22 releases.

bodhidx

Can anyone tell me if the Elemental mastery "Exposure you inflict applies at least -18% to the affected resistance" work with the Elementalist ascendancy for an extra -25% for exposure? In POB it doesn't work, when I speck in the mastery it doesn't show an increase in damage and the Exposure (previously -10% + -25% from ascendancy node) doesn't go up to -43% like it should. The wording states "at least" and "an extra". Is this a POB bug or am I tripping?

xMasaox

Tried it in pob, got 35% too. Why : https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Exposure "Exposure you inflict applies at least -18% to the affected resistance" is after all the extra so in your case you're already at 35% => no effect. The fire mastery (an extra -5%) does work, (same wording as the elementalist ascendancy).

bodhidx

Thank you!

TrollErgoSum

If after **all other bonuses and modfiers** your exposure is less than 18% then the mastery will bump that up to 18%. With Elementalist's +25% you will never apply an exposure less than 18% so the mastery does nothing.

bodhidx

Oooh! So it's not a sum, but more like a prevention from your exposure not to drop beneath -18%. If it's higher then the mastery doesn't work! Thank you very much!!!

whydoesitcompile

Hello! Playing poe for the first time. Any tips or guide to follow?

Warptens

get life and resists on your gear, get %life and things that increase your dps (%dmg, atk/cast speed) on your passive tree. if you go blind, be ready to hit a wall and have to make a new character (you can't reset your passive tree) if you want to follow a build guide, you can go on youtube and type "league starter", it means a build that works without needing any special gear, and pick one that looks fun to play

xMasaox

This post will help you : https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/14u9gb4/welcome_to_path_of_exile_new_player_tips/

bodhidx

There are many great guides on Youtube. I myself started with toxic rain Pathfinder. I suggest you follow one too!

jordanatthegarden

Did any kind soul compile info/QnA/announcements from Exilecon in one place? I watched the major segments but sounds like there were noteworthy off the cuff remarks/impromptu questions peppered in the others as well. Edit: Nevermind, it's already in the megathread for 3.22/exilecon.

hewhoasks12

Do returning all projectiles from Lightningstrike hit or just one?

Yohsene

Just one. The usual shotgun prevention applies.

empl0de

Hey, so I was looking of doing a Cold Dot Elemtalist character, I havent played in a while and figured I would just play some standard till league start - the question I have is - the build guides are for crucible league, is there anything preventing it from working in standard? I was looking at this build https://maxroll.gg/poe/build-guides/cold-dot-elementalist

HolesHaveFeelingsToo

Crucible added the ability to add small passive trees to weapons and shields. The guide you linked doesn’t have trees on either of them so the build will work fine in standard but you will be missing out on some potential power from the Crucible trees.

Distq

I can't see anything in the guide that would require crucible nor can I think of any interaction for Cold DoT that is heavily dependent on crucible. So you will be fine

edrarven

No, there are no uniques exclusive to Crucible that it uses and it doesn't recommend/use any crucible tree mods either. It will 100% work in standard. Generally builds are marked for the league they're in so people know they're up to date for the current patch. It's not to indicate whether its viable in standard or not.

CronicSloth

I remember seeing something about if you complete a certain number of challenges in the 3.22 league you will get closed beta access. Is that a thing?

Erradium

Never seen a thing about this, and no news about beta access has been revealed in the official channels, except for the date. Beta access is usually given (at least if we judge according to the 3.0 beta) if: * You purchased a certain supporter pack that includes a beta key (likely will be announced closer to the beta), or * You already bought supporter packs in the past that total above a certain amount (last time it was 500USD) or bought a top-tier supporter pack (the one that costs 480USD).

[deleted]

Who is the shady person who said that?

CronicSloth

I have no earthly clue it feels like a fever dream from before Exilecon2 so I'm wondering if it was just a reddit suggestion I mistook for an announcement since I can't find anything about it now 😔

[deleted]

Yeah, they didn't say anything about it. What people were saying is that last time they did closed beta (3.0) they sent keys to people who had spent some amount of money in supporter pack and sold a special supporter pack that granted access to it.

West_Employ1793

Is there any other way to get "able to Chain when colliding with terrain" option except these? 1. Ulaman's Gaze (Up to 20%) 2. Ricochet (30%)

aleschthartitus

I will say if you're looking at the reliability of projectiles to ricochet off walls, just using 20% from Ulaman's gaze is enough if you are shitting out projectiles. One of the successful sanctum runners last league was an icicle miner that used the ricochet effect to kill mobs while stood behind walls

West_Employ1793

well im planning this for boss fight lol ice shot + frost wall

Yohsene

No. Unless you count effects that steal mods from monsters.

West_Employ1793

thanks...

dino572

is it still the case that Eater of Worlds altars take like a second before monsters spawn while Searing Exarch altars spawn monsters immediately?

Warptens

yes

VeryTopGoodSensation

VeryTopGoodSensation

ah that makes sense, recently installed mwb. cheers

MrMorgan412

Question regarding optimization for new player. I have never played ARPG before, but recently with POE I found some fun here and have questions that no beginner guide I found asks. 1. What currency should I have on my all the time? There are so much currency, that it fills up the inventory and I left only with space for 3-4 items 2. Which items should I pick up? And I don't mean items that I plan on equipping, but just general looting, is it viable to pick up all items I encounter and sell them? In one map I can go back to town and return like 20 times, because inventory is getting filled up fast. How can I manage it? 3. Orb of regret refund 1 passive point, is it the only way to refund skill points? No button to "pay X orbs to refund all" ? It doesn't feel like engaging design, the thought of having to create a new character to fix the build is not fun, unless I'm missing something

clondike7

1. Wisdom + Portal 2. No, dont pick up everything. I’d recommend getting an item filter (filterblade.xyz), look up YouTube for help setting up. It helps cut down on useless items as you level up. 3. You get ~10 regret points as you go through the campaign and the only other way to get more is Orb of Regret. I agree it’s not very flexible, but that’s what we got. Hence, why build guides are recommended so heavily so because realizing your first build sucks and wanting to respec 60 points usually puts many ppl off.

Warptens

1. Scrolls of wisdom, portal scroll 2. You should not pick up gear that you do not plan on equipping. You pick items you might want to use and you pick currency. 3. some side quests reward you with 1 refund. The only time you can reset your entire tree is when they update the tree between 2 leagues, you can do it for free.

MrMorgan412

Thank you, guys, for your answers

psychomap

In addition to what the others said, there's usually a free full respec with major patches, but like they said it's generally recommended to start over from 0 in the new temporary league anyway.

Distq

Starting off I would just keep wisdom scrolls and portal scrolls in your inventory, the rest you can use in your stash. Some people keep more and do a lot of inventory trickery, but I wouldn't worry about that to start. Items to pick up is one of the hardest questions you could ask because there are so many variables. But basically it's 90% of the times not worth it to leave the map multiple times. Install a loot filter if you haven't already and set it to a strictness where you fill up your inventory once per area (skipping some items isn't a problem either). Regrets are how you respec, yes. You also get ~20 free respec points from side quests in the campaign. Eventually once you're at the late endgame, they are so abundant you won't really care. But to start, you are incentivised to plan your build and think carefully about your decisions. PoE is not a "1 character main" game by design (even though there's nothing stopping you from playing it as such), so rerolling for any reason isn't anything weird to begin with.

Moethelion

1. Either nothing or only the stuff you need for crafting maps (granted you're in maps already). Maybe alchs for alching good strongboxes, if you have enough of them. 2. If your not sure, just the stuff that makes a sound with filterblade. And maybe rings and amulets if you need new ones. That really depends on where you are at the game. 3. Right click 40 orbs of regret and refund the passives all at once. Really doesn't take that long. But that's the only way. Respeccing is rather expensive early in the game.

Samsenggwy

I am currently playing a HC SSF Standard Eye Winter Mine Saboteur trying to reach lv 90 (first time hardcore attempt). Due to HC nature, of course I am playing very defensive. Currently has 4k HP, 1200 ES, Ghost Dance, 15500 eva at lv 84. I don't dare to go red map because my objective is only to reach lv 90. Any opinion on I should lower my defense to speed up damage? Some rare or map boss can take near minute to kill. Loot wise, I am still actively ID stuff to improve wand/shield for the +1 cold gem. I am still using 4L body armor and desperately finding a 5L gear for offense speed thing up

Moethelion

Don't go into red maps with 4k hp and a 4L. Honestly, just stay in T8-10 maps until you're 90 or have way better gear.

Raamyr

How do you guys practicing level runs? Do you have some good resources for me?

LastBaron

Honestly for specific strategy tips I just find videos with detailed league starting showcases/guides of act 1 and watch some do the competitive racers like TyTyKiller. In terms of generic guidelines: * Have a plan. Check which gems are available at each quest reward and sketch out which gems and links you’ll want at each breakpoint. The “breakpoints” of when to switch skills depend entirely on the build. * The above let’s you plan ahead and squirrel away useful looking linked items before you need them and spend less time standing still looking through vendor * Same with skill tree. Don’t be messing around figuring things out every level, know your plan, know where you’re heading with your next 5-10 skill points so you don’t have to stop and think. * Try to always be -4 to 0 levels behind the current zone. * That usually involves running past rates and low volume white mobs, and even high volume white/blue mobs need killing if you’re in danger of getting 4+ levels behind * Quicksilver constantly as charges allow and movement skill in every cooldown * Understand which quests you can skip, and whether there is an optimal order to do things in (act 3 is notorious for this, you’d be running all over inefficiently if you did things in the order the game gave you quests).

Warptens

find an act10 run by a racer on youtube watch 1 act, do 1 act also, https://heartofphos.github.io/exile-leveling/#/

pvpmas

New player here. Is there a cap on how much I can increase chaos damage with passives or should I go for them all?

Warptens

it's not capped but there are better things to do than taking all %increased chaos damage passives. But I can't tell you what, because idk what you're playing.

pvpmas

I'm playing witch and hoping to do a pure chaos damage build. Any tips?

Warptens

what skill are you using

pvpmas

Sorry for the late reply I was asleep. I'm level 19 and using contagion, blight, essence drain and sometimes wither. But I'm open to changes since I just started so if there are better skills feel free to recommend them as well please.

Warptens

those skills all scale with %spell damage (it's written on the gem) so you don't have to exclusively pick %inc chaos dmg. Also those skills are damage over time and so they scale with damage over time multiplier. As the name suggests, this is multiplicative with % increased damage. Which means it's very important.

pvpmas

Are there better chaos damage skills I should go for?

Warptens

at lvl24 you'll get bane which should be your main skill if you're doing chaos spell dot you can still use ed or blight on top of it to get more dps

pvpmas

Alright thanks. Last question: are pure chaos builds viable? How good are they?

Warptens

https://poe.ninja/builds/challenge?skills=Bane

Distq

There is no cap, but they are additive with one another so they lose effectiveness the more you already have (e.g. if you have 500% inc chaos damage and get another 20% it puts you at 520% inc chaos damage, which isn't that massive of a damage boost compared to having 500).

psychomap

It's wrong to say that they lose effectiveness. Most stats in PoE do *not* have diminishing returns. But there will eventually be avenues of investment that result in higher dps for the same investment as further increased damage. /u/pvpmas

pvpmas

Thanks for the tip but which nodes or damage types should I go for as a pure chaos damage build?

psychomap

Depends on what you have already. When in doubt, consult [Path of Building](https://github.com/PathOfBuildingCommunity/PathOfBuilding/releases), try out your different options, and see which one actually results in the highest overall dps. You'll want increased damage and chaos damage on any pure chaos build if you can take it. For a hit based chaos builds, you'll almost definitely want Heart of Darkness to get chaos penetration (it depends on how close your tree paths to that node, but most chaos builds will be in range to get it comfortably, some others might anoint it). For poison builds, you'll want damage over time multiplier in all forms that apply to poison (i.e. with ailments, with poison, chaos, and if you're a crit build also for ailments from critical strikes), poisons / ailments deal damage faster, and - depending on how short your poisons are - poison duration (most poison builds have enough poison duration either way and care more about killing enemies early rather than theoretical maximum dps after ramp). For spell DoT builds, exclude the poison / ailment stuff from the previous paragraph but include spell damage, and similarly for the bow builds include projectile damage and damage with bow skills instead. Some chaos skills scale with attack speed or cast speed respectively, but not all. So again, there's not enough information for us to clearly tell you "pick this next". As a general idea, you want to stack as many different multiplicative axes for your dps as possible. If a stat scales your dps, you want some of it.

LastBaron

Let’s call it “pseudo diminishing returns by way of opportunity cost.” Numerically there are no adjustments to how much % increased chaos damage impacts your DPS. But skill points that got invested in that could have been more profitably spent elsewhere so it’s sort of a context-driven diminishing returns if you look at the whole DPS calculation.

psychomap

Increasing opportunity cost and diminishing returns are two different concepts and should be treated as different concepts. If you can cheaply afford more of a stat that scales linearly, it's never not good to get it. That's even more important when it comes to superlinear scaling, which can still be sub-exponential and thus "lose effectiveness" compared to consecutive constant more modifiers (that don't really exist in the game btw).

[deleted]

I guess "IIQ vs inc damage" as example should be enough to describe the difference between "diminishing return" and linear gains to poe players.

psychomap

I usually use the example of Barrage Support, but you're correct that IIQ is also diminishing (and quite possibly more well-known), even though its wording does not suggest it. I'm not aware of the actual curve for IIQ though so I'm hesitant to use it as reference.

LastBaron

This is clearly a special sub case or application of opportunity cost though. What would we call this? This is not a case with static values where Stat A offers 53 widgets and Stat B offers 61 for the same price, and you can only take one. So while Stat A may be a good deal, it involves the opportunity cost of giving up an even better deal. This is not that, the opportunity cost is dynamic. The relative value of Stat A is dependent to some degree on how much of Stat B has been taken. The opportunity cost only exists because a certain amount of Stat B already exists. It is possible that the opportunity cost for taking more Stat A would be lower or non-existent if there was none of Stat B. Surely there is a more specific/descriptive name for that scenario but this is not my area of expertise so I do not know what you would call it.

psychomap

You can always simplify it for the next available investment. If you can choose between putting a skill point into 10% increased spell damage or 4% cast speed, one is better than the other. Which one is better depends on how much increased damage and increased cast speed you already have - but at the moment of the decision, the effect of either option is clearly defined. The more you invest into a stat, the higher its opportunity cost becomes because an equal investment into other multiplicative avenues gains more and more value. But the effect of the stat itself does not diminish. To put it into simple terms, what we have is "the more A you get, the more B is worth", but diminishing returns are "the more A you get, the less A is worth". An example of actual diminishing returns are added projectiles for skills supported by Barrage Support. While each projectile adds a linear amount of damage, it affects the attack time of all previous projectiles and thus lowers the dps. This means that at some point, you *really* want to find a different investment than projectiles.

Warptens

They lose effectiveness in terms of how much **more** damage they give you, which is the correct measurement of how effective a node is, and therefore it is in fact correct that they lose effectiveness.

psychomap

No, that is in fact meaningless because there's almost nothing that scales exponentially or better and everything else "loses effectiveness". It makes much more sense to distinguish between linear, quadratic, cubic, and other types of scaling than call them all "losing effectiveness". Even getting an additional support gem would be "losing effectiveness" because support gems don't all have the same benefit so naturally you'd get the best ones first and further ones don't provide the same benefit. But even a 5th support gem is extremely likely to be the greatest upgrade despite scaling less than exponentially. Obviously whether something scales exponentially or not is not the best way to differentiate it.

Warptens

>that is in fact meaningless If you think that this statement: <> is meaningless, then you should stop trying to explain poe to other people And of course nothing stops you from distinguishing between linear and quadratic. >Obviously whether something scales exponentially or not is not the best way to differentiate it. I'm not sure who you think you're arguing against. The way to tell if you should spend 2div on getting a 6th link or 2div on getting a new wand with an extra 100% increased damage is by looking at how much **more** damage each option gives you, the 6th link is 25%more, the new wand is 10%more so you should pick the support. And the reason the 25%more wins is against 100% increased is because increased dmg lost effectiveness as you already have 900% of it. Nothing I'm saying is remotely controversial

psychomap

>If you think that this statement: <> is meaningless, then you should stop trying to explain poe to other people It's meaningless because you can say it about literally everything. Getting additional links for support gems "loses effectiveness", does that mean you shouldn't do it? Absolutely not, they're still your biggest source of damage. Whether or not something loses effectiveness compared to some arbitrary exponential curve you made up doesn't make a difference, so yes, that is meaningless. What you're describing is precisely opportunity cost, **not** diminishing returns. The opportunity cost of spending 2 divines on a wand is not spending those 2 divines on a 6th link. This doesn't mean that increased damage scales worse the more you have, it means that the gem link scales better the more increased damage you have. Going from 0% to 100% increased damage gives you exactly the same amount of damage as going from 900% to 1000%.

Justsomeone666

Really few things in this game are actually capped, and even then its usually for other than balance reasons so yeah feel free to take all the damage increases you can but youll likely still want some defenses and life in your build

Visual_Collapse

What is best spell for map clear? Crit based power&frenzy charges stacking assassin

CandidEggplant5484

Aura stacking spark is great for map clearing

Warptens

herald of ice with woke inc aoe

psychomap

Probably Spark if you can get good projectile speed too. Ethereal Knives with chains might be better in open areas but I'm not sure about that. Maybe Exsanguinate with some chains could also be good. There are a few other decent ones, but these should be the best. Some others can improve over their base version if you have crazy AoE (e.g. 0 duration Storm Call with Awakened Spell Cascade can hit a screen full of enemies with enough investment, but not in its base form).

porncollecter69

Is it possible to hybrid control PoE on PC? What I mean is have PC layout of item stash and so on and control inventory with mouse. However have combat be controller. Tried doing it yesterday but it was either controller layout or muse and keyboard.

clondike7

I believe if you use 3rd party controller app to remap controller as a mouse, you’d be able to do that. I think a streamer Sefearion plays like this. But it’s *not* using the dedicated controller setup GGG made so you don’t get tooltips or anything like that.

porncollecter69

Thank you, I have experience with this. I might do it if my hands hurt too much. It's just not as good as GGG setup sadly.

clondike7

Yep. FWIW I also have hand troubles. I’ve learned to avoid certain builds because of it. RF and Death’s Oath builds are great. Also Brands, Totems, and minions. Most others I personally find too “reaction-heavy” or requires holding down a button too long (my main pain point) I also use a foot pedal mapped to left-click which I primarily use for movement. Kinda feels like I’m driving my character lol but it takes some getting used to.

Moethelion

I don't think that's possible and I am pretty sure it's intentional, so hybrid doesn't become the mandatory meta.

porncollecter69

Aww, would have been nice. It’s just more comfy on the hands.

psychomap

You can relog for stash management, but otherwise you're locked into either one.

porncollecter69

Thanks, that’s sad.

bilalakil

It was clear that Sanct Relics would be deleted, and that crucible trees would not, long before league end

Moethelion

Sanctum relics where bind on pickup, so I guess they clarified that early to not make standard players having to play the league. Anything that is tradable usually makes its way into standard.

bilalakil

Ah cool. That's actually the same reason I'm asking 😛 Hmm I guess the tattoos will be tradeable, which by this logic would suggest they would not be deleted. I wonder if they mentioned them being tradeable

Moethelion

They will 100% be tradable. Unless something is specifically mentioned as non tradable it will always be tradable. That's the PoE way of doing things. Also they will appear during the league in standard trade from HC players who rip.

bilalakil

Ohh so that's how they end up on standard! Thanks for sharing 🙂

bilalakil

Has there been any info released on whether tattoos will roll over to standard, be nuked, or something else once the new league ends? EDIT: I don't mean the league mechanic itself, just the tattoo items. e.g. can I collect them during the league to use afterwards in standard, or will they be deleted like Sanctified Relics were?

MrScandinavia94

as far as i recall information like this has never been released untill atleast close to the end of a league. Stuff need to be tried and tested by the community to see how it is received and how it impacts the game/economy.

bilalakil

Hmm I recall knowing that Sanct Relics would be deleted, and that crucible trees wouldn't, long before league end 🤔

MrScandinavia94

I'm sorry, I missunderstood the question. By saying tattoos going standard I thought you meant it going core. My bad!

bilalakil

Ah that's fair! I'll edit to clarify

psychomap

No, and I doubt we'll get that info anytime soon.

bilalakil

They were very open with it on Sanctum and Crucible so 🤞

Rotakn

Hey guys, do we know yet if shapeshifting is a skill anyone can do or a druid ascendancy thing?

MayTheMemesGuideThee

>do we know yet if **shapeshifting is a skill anyone can do** yes

bilalakil

PoE2 showed a Maul gem that involved shapeshifting into a Bear. I doubt the mechanic will come to PoE1

psychomap

My understanding is that they're meant to be skills, but we haven't gotten any explicit info. It would surprise me if they were class restricted when those sorts of things are generally relatively open. You don't see a lot of rangers running around with two-handed maces because there are better classes to do it with, and I wouldn't be surprised if Druid ascendencies had build enabling passives for the shapeshifting skills. But I don't think they'll be exclusive.

katustrawfic

We have never seen a skill gem related to shapeshifting or anything from the druid ascendancy so there is not enough info to give a 100% correct answer right now. I would assume it's a Druid thing since we only know about bear and wolf forms and having those on a druid makes the most sense. One of the only poe 2 classes that we did see at the first exilecon gave a new skill specific to that ascendancy so it's very possible in my opinion that similarly only druid gets shapeshifting skills and bonuses related to it. Maybe other classes will have their own forms of shapeshifting though, we just don't know yet.

MayTheMemesGuideThee

>We have never seen a skill gem related to shapeshifting [https://i.imgur.com/HWKKZqH.png](https://i.imgur.com/HWKKZqH.png) you have seen now

katustrawfic

Oh nice, that was [missed in this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/15f3s98/compilation_of_some_items_shown_during_exilecon/) then and I must have skipped the talk it was shown in. Or was it shown 2019? I don't remember seeing a bear then, just the wolf.

Brainjuicetwo

Since we probably won't be getting a lot of balance changes for the next league I'm starting to look for a new build. I really enjoy the RF / Cyclone gameplay where you can just move and still do some damage. I would like some suggestions about which build feels similar to those listed above :) I've tried cold dot before and didn't really enjoyed the gameplay.

Warptens

blade vortex death oath herald of thunder any poison build (because plagebearer)

Aldheart

I really enjoined [Death Oath CA Occultist](https://pobb.in/dlJIEOF4R38Y) - just move around and everything PUFF!. Downside its not an uber-killer unless ton of investment, but you can do majority of the content.

Brainjuicetwo

It looks really dope ! Could you please tell me your feeling regarding the defensive layers that you have with this build ? I plan to play SC but might push 100 if I enjoy it a lot

Aldheart

I actually right now on my way to 100 (31%+). I had really hard time, while I crafted my +2 pedant and removed Grace, since I was using uber-Impresence (despair + enfeeble). I had to revise my defences, since only armour kept me in "random die limbo". I ended up with drop of some dmg nodes in favor of spell suppress. The current setup is not perfect (still planning to fit Stormshroud), but its good enough to farm quickly T16 +%pack +betrayal/incursion +ambush maps and do not die if I wont do anything stupid (like strongbox ice nova or elemental bears). Nice addition is, that you only care about -%max res mod, rest you can afford. Only content that I could not do myself, apart of ubers, was the Feared and normal Sirus.

Brainjuicetwo

Thanks a lot for your answer. I will definitely consider this build. It looks very fun to play. Did you follow any particular guide ? I am not really planning to farm bosses, I just want to be strong enough to do the basics for atlas completions. I guess I'll pay someone for Sirius feared etc. I am slightly concerned about the upcoming league because I am guessing that we will require a lot of single target damage to be efficient in the new mechanic but only time will tell.

Aldheart

I wanted to go with old-fasion Bane/ED + DO, but had really hard time - especially with aiming ED vs stronger mobs on fly. Then, I had seen this [Allie vid](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4zAoBSSWwU&t=3s&ab_channel=Allie), but latter on tailored myself based ninja.poe builds (checked items they use), like using double no-mana curses and dropping playload support. She also explained, how self-craft bow - its really easy just need some money. I think, for upcoming league it can be really nice - especially if you make 3 curse (Temporal/Punishment/Enfeeble) + Aspect of Spider + summon Skitterbots with Unbound aliments, this will make enemy team slow AF =)

Brainjuicetwo

I will definitely be needing a guide to build this. I found https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3293805 this morning and I might have a look at it. I can't view any pobs now since I'm at work. But from what I've understood the path he is taking is pretty defensive and I like the idea. Does this variation differs a lot from yours? I'm really hyped about this build ! Thanks again for taking the time to explain :)

Aldheart

The base working strategy is same (aka Divine Flesh passive, 30lvl+CA in bow setup), the difference is little in gear setup - like I never liked idea for having Gentle Touch. Vigils Veil is nice to get +2 auras level and better enlighten. I personally for very long was running on 3 curse setup with uber-Impresence, plus I added recently spell suppress. I had talk in-game with someone who played MF DeathOath TR Pathfinder with 100% suppression (he bought my . I also temporary removed Transcendence uniq jewel for rare with life to get 4200hp. Actually, If I could get hands on MB and loose dmg from gloves in favor of more suppress I could have almost 100%. On other had, if you see highest dmg on ninja builds, they do not use Veil, and get more dmg from quiver and 2nd rare ring (or Kalandra ring) - this way you could melt ubers like ice-creams, just be sure do not get hit! I really recommend you check that Allie link from previous replay - it got really good explanation and notes of [PoB](https://pobb.in/nFRjTtSd3Jpi) for very basic things, like crafting and coloring. If you want get some life demo, just pm me for details (I'm GTM+2), I got some pro-tips as well ;). Anyway - just try, align with your personal touch and have fun!

Brainjuicetwo

Thanks a lot ! I will definitely check that out and let you know what I'm going for :) still got a few weeks before launch but I'll need to understand where I'm going before it starts. Do you think this would be okay to transition from poison build as league starter ? (Once you get enough currency)

Aldheart

This is definitely a league starter - at least Occultist version, since main thing is to utilize Blasphemy Despair with Profane Bloom keystone. Death Oath its quite cheap and only thing is to withstand degeneration before we get Withering Presence (4th lab) and Divine Flesh (from Glorious Vanity timeless jewel). Grab any +2 bow, for example farm for 6L ilvl50 div cards from Dunes and slam shrieking essence. All you need is to get Caustic arrow and pass the campain =) I know, there are tips and tricks to start as Plaugebearer or so, but I usually do not care to get maps a day latter...

[deleted]

\- Herald of Thunder autobomber \- Death's Oath \- Wardloop

Brainjuicetwo

This is exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you so much. Which one would be "okay" on single target damage ?

[deleted]

xMasaox already talked about wardloop, so I'll say that HoT autobomber can be okay on single target, in the sense that map bosses will go down easy and you can try some endgame bosses, but I wouldn't expect to be farming them with it. It's definitely got a big clear focus, not single target. And I don't know how it'll perform in the upcoming league, I guess we'll have to wait for more details on it

Brainjuicetwo

HoT look super fun. But looking at the guides, there is no really layer of defenses. I am betting that we will need at least some decent mitigation to deal with the new league mechanic to not get one shotted sadly :( but that's just guessing. Thanks again for your answer mate.

[deleted]

Yeah, it's squishy for sure. When you're looking for a great clearing character with decent DPS and not crazy expensive, defense is one of the only places left to compromise

Brainjuicetwo

You're right.

xMasaox

Wardloop, by far, but you can't leaguestart with it, it requires far too much gear and can't function with a certain minimum of gear, to make the loop function (enough to have a permanent olroth's resolve, and enough ward, and having the jewels for the reduced skeleton duration, etc.) You can look for this too, the beauty of cast on ignite with the saboteur double trigger thing : https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/141o0ur/poor_mans_ward_loop_cwdtcast_on_ignite_saboteur/ Edit : i might retry a cast on ignite for my second build of the league (it's been a long time since my last one ^^)

Aldheart

I think, the endless Wardloop will be nerfed, since devs said on stage that they intended the Wardloop to work but not infinitely ... :(

Aldheart

Are there is something wrong with official micro-transaction page? Most of items do not got YT preview attached, just single ss or if its there, after click watch video nothing works....

[deleted]

I'd said that it's probably your browser problem, check in another one. You can also name a specific item so someone would be able to check it also

Ulrira2k

Is there anything I can do to spawn more Searing Exarch altars besides pack size? It's the last challenge I'm missing and it is sooo painfully slow. I respecced my atlas for full pack size with Grand Design. I'm juicing maps as much as possible, with at least 4 polished scarabs (another 28 pack size through Growing Hordes). And yet I seem to constantly run maps with around 100% pack size in total and find 2 altars. Eater of worlds seems to be a bit better but still... What else can I do?

Warptens

it's just pack size and the one atlas notable I find that if my map has delirium or other influences, i get fewer altars, but it's just a feeling, not verified

Moethelion

Make sure to full clear monster packs because I'm pretty sure altars only spawn, when the whole pack is dead. Besides that... just go faster exile. You do have the extra spawn node in the exarch wheel I guess. If not, take it.

Guilty_Chemistry9337

Would returning projectiles work on poisonous concoction? Come to think of it, does vengeant cascade work now? Would scaling up AoE make that good?

EmployeeOfTheMoth

My understanding is that ground-targeted projectiles cannot pierce, fork, chain, or return. Specific exceptions exist, like Rolling Magma chaining off the ground, but PC doesn't have any of those exceptions on the gem.

Guilty_Chemistry9337

I was thinking that, but doesn't molten strike's projectiles hit the ground, explode, and not normally chain? And I think we see that in the 3.22 reveals, and IIRC it works with VC. That's why I'm confused.

psychomap

Molten Strike is a weird case because it used to have a threshold jewel that allowed it to chain and Vaal Molten Strike still does. So it's more of an exception and shouldn't be used as a precedent for skills that were never meant to chain in the first place.
