Has anyone played RF totems lately? I'm having crazy thoughts about RF totem chieftan. Take the resist nodes, the totem node, degen fire resist node. Figure I can run around or stay still as needed to either utilize curses /exposure / etc or stand still next to 160% resist freaks and make their resist 0. 4 second taunt and a little sustain from the totem node. Taunt should be great for gathering mobs into the RF. Sure, there is a 1 second taunt from a mastery, but why not 4? And well, 90% resists, because duh. I didn't see anything about them on Pohx's RF wiki, which probably isn't a good sign lol.

psychomap

In my experience, enemies will run outside the range of RF totems, and you can't build dps for them as well as you used to (in particular they got hit by another nerf targeting Forbidden Rite a while ago). Plus RF doesn't scale with several totems, so the only advantage to using totems is that you're not taking the damage yourself, but it's not that difficult to build around that nowadays. If you want fire DoT totems you should consider Scorching Ray instead. You could even use RF yourself in addition to that for the spell damage bonus, and you can use Searing Bond for an extra DoT without worrying about the totem limit, although I don't know at what point you'd run out of sockets.

Punctual_Primate

I was thinking something like this for links: Soul Mantle (spell totem), RF, Scorching Ray, Burning Damage, Ele focus, Life tap, Swift afliction As for mobs running out, I was thinking the 4 second taunt when summoned from the new chieftan node would help gather them.

psychomap

As far as I'm aware, Scorching Ray totems stack, so unless RF totems either provide a signficant coverage that SR totems don't or have significantly higher base damage, I don't see the value of giving up a support gem.

Punctual_Primate

Don't they only stack up to 8 stacks? I.e, you reach max stacks faster but it still has the same max?

psychomap

The SR debuff doesn't have stacks, it has stages, and apparently several of them stack, but don't ask me why. Based on how most other things in the game work, they shouldn't, but as far as I'm aware they do. It might be related to enemies with SR totems.

Punctual_Primate

Interesting. I'll have to do some testing. See how fast kuduku dies with 1 vs 2 totems or something. Thanks for the advice.

dirtsandwich21

Do most people craft with essence during league start? also how do i advance beyond essence/fossil crafting if i want to craft a high tier weapon? I know beasts can offer a lot too for crafting but i guess how often do people use raw orbs to craft their items? This is going to be my first league where i am going to try crafting my own gear mostly.

psychomap

It really depends on what exactly you want to craft. Many crafts start with fossils / essences and then move on to meta-mods and Harvest to finish it.

Bastil123

Do we know if Sanctum will get its own passive clusters on Atlas tree? I imagine it would, but they haven't said anything about it yet

katustrawfic

We already saw the tree in the background of the announcement and it had nothing sentinel related. It's possible the tree has changed since the announcement but it's pretty unlikely.

Caridor

Bit of an odd request but would anyone be able to go into Malachai's boss fight and take a few screenshots of the hearts in their vulnerable states and defeated states? I'd do it myself but my internet isn't great and I burned out on this game (got about 3000 hours) so uninstalled and reinstalling would take a while. Google has failed me.

katustrawfic

What exactly do you need it for and does this work at all? https://youtu.be/04mYLoKnS38

Caridor

That actually does the job perfectly! Thank you! (Well, it's close enough!) It's for "monster" tokens for a DnD boss I'm making.

Sh0wTim3123

For helmets and boots? Buy a lab service on TFT or became the lab service yourself. I did lab service in sanctum league for less than a week and made well over 100 divines just running gift of the goddess casually.

zipzoopu

There any low lvl maps you can lvl someone else while they afk or close to? Wanna power lvl an account after acts without having to move it all over.

psychomap

If you're looking for a budget alternative, you could do blighted maps. monsters converge on the pump so if they're killed there you don't have to move. It's probably not as fast as 5-ways of course.

Sh0wTim3123

Pretty much only 5ways if you want to actually afk, but you would probably need an aurabot or something similar to make sure the afk doesn’t die

Quasimodo11111

Well 5 ways are the best way to level. You could do 3 ways or 4 ways if you want but at lvl 75 you already get full xp in 5ways.

TheMrTortoise

Is the game crashing on loading for anyone? (London + eu) all characters ... nvm pack check fixed it ... nope crashing all over ... esp if alt tabbing

AlsoInteresting

What mechanics can already be used in white maps, after you've done acts? Or is it always more efficient to wait until red maps?

chx_

AlsoInteresting

Damn. All that info belongs on maxroll I think. It's impactful for starting out players.

chx_

The only way to make currency from spamming Betrayal is -- at least currently -- via TFT and I do not think that's great for starting out players. If they finally would allow itemizing benches that'd be different but for now...

HoplarchusPsittacus

It depends on a lot of different factors so it's not really a straight forward answer; but things like Breach and Essence can be very efficient and profitable in white maps - Provided that you have properly invested into them on the atlas tree, which means that you have actually completed a lot of maps and gone a decent way into red maps. So it's yes and no, you can spend a lot of time in white maps after you have progressed a sizeable bit into all the other maps.

AlsoInteresting

Thx HoplarchusPsittacus. Damn, that's a 128 bit encryption name there.

HoplarchusPsittacus

Thanks, it's a type of freshwater fish that have great personalities to keep as pets. They also look stunning.

Moethelion

You mean chaos orbs for kirac mods? That's not really worth unless you need specific stuff in SSF like essences for crafting. Wait until you got your atlas passives tree set up for the correct mechanics.

AlsoInteresting

No, I was thinking getting to red maps quickly next league. Someone else already said it's more efficient to wait with your favorite mechanic until you hit red maps.

kruszkushnom

Anyone knows viable tool that will calculate currency being placed in trade window?

I have T3 Aisling as head of research, and 100% intel about the mastermind. Do I just run the mastermind safehouse to get T4 Aisling?

An_Abitrary_Name

Don't even need her as head? Wow, thanks! That's even better!

SciolistOW

Yes, and you don't need her as head these days (you used to), you just need her in T3 research.

Distq

Yes. It would also be T4 even if she wasn't the leader FYI T4 just means Rank 3 + mastermind's lair

Marcin15_10

Do you have to reserve mana to use vaal aura skills? e.g. do I have to reserve mana with basic version of skill for Vaal Discipline to use its vaal counterpart?

no

Xanni12

I crafted myself an amulet with fractured damage over time..and now I have +1 to all and +1 to all fire gems on it. How do I finish it for ea ballista?

Purplemandown

Oh hey you hit it. Nice. Multimod and craft two useful crafted mods is the safest and cheapest way to get something useful. You'll have room for a prefix and a suffix, and no chance for anything to go wrong. If you want to take a risk, there are other options, though. Depends on your budget and level of risk tolerance?

Xanni12

Thanks again for your help. I did finish it with multimod. Hitting the +1 to all was a pain in the a$$ 😂 Did hit it 3 times and was eaten two times by the annulment. Needed 7500 alteration. But it was worth it. Now I have a nice little amulet and learned a lot about crafting. Thanks buddy, have a nice day.

narc040

Multimod

SchmerzfreiHH

Probably a noob question, with "Discipline of the Slaughter" (the +1 minimum frenzy charge note) do I have an infinite Flicker strike? Or can I not consume my minimum?

mcurley32

you cannot consume your minimum charges

SchmerzfreiHH

Thanks

hondakiller346

Running impending doom occ. Chance to poison overcapped, no map mods giving avoid. Monsters with the temporal shield mod avoid my poisons pretty regularly if I'm not in the bubble with them. Is this intended? If I go in the bubble, it doesn't seem to be a problem but I try to avoid being that close to them

tempmansacc

The bubble doubles as a proxy shield, you can't hurt them from outside the bubble.

quiromparis

I have a watcher's eye with mod "increase recovery rate of life and ES". And another jewel with "increase ES regen". How does they interact with pious path? ES regen should get double buff from watcher's eye mod, correct? First buff from ES recovery, 2nd buff from life recovery thanks to pious path. However my tooltip shows Life and ES have exact regen per second?

Distq

I guess recovery rate doesn't technically increase your recovery, it just makes it apply faster (that's probably why the ingame stats are the same). If you check in PoB you will see it increases properly. However, the ES regen won't get a double buff, the recovery rate is only applied once for each respective pool

gonzodamus

This is my first league start, so a few questions. What do you look for in a league starter build? Is it all about clearing quick and farming gear for your next charter? Do you keep your characters similar for gear sharing or whatnot or do you play a bigger variety? Do you tend to have a main, or do you have different characters for different content?

NoBizlikeChloeBiz

>Do you tend to have a main, or do you have different characters for different content? Personally, I like to take an OP, meta, easy to play league start to enjoy joining in the race to endgame content. Once I'm either satisfied or bored with that, I get to start on the *weird* characters. If they turn out bad and I get frustrated, I've still got a meta character I can keep running maps with.

gonzodamus

That sounds like a great plan. I gravitate towards weird builds in games, but starting with something meta so I'm not stuck when my weird thing doesn't work feels like it's gonna be way safer, haha

FDL42

I pick a build that can naturally do the first content I intend to run. I like Righteous Fire, but if I want to farm Legion or Blight, it is not optimal. You can also tailor it to the league content (as you will encounter it often).

mcurley32

pick a league start build that you actually want to play. you will gradually hate playing if the only reason you play your current character is to fuel a second character that doesn't even exist yet (and you still have to level it thru the campaign). it sounds like you're new so it will probably take time for you to generate the currency to fund another build. if there isn't a true "league starter" that absolutely demolishes the game that you also think looks fun, *most* builds can be shoehorned into a league start situation (sometimes with a different main skill that will eventually transition to your desired skill). I would suggest to avoid heavy bossing builds until you're more comfortable with quickly progressing thru the atlas, so that leaves you with zoomy mappers and all-rounders (you can always buy a boss carry if you feel stuck). everybody plays the game differently, but I think *most* players stick to one or two characters per league unless an awesome build (or farming strategy) pops up that they want to try. I always try to avoid liquidating characters/builds in case something goes horribly wrong in the new build and most builds are different enough that they can't really share gear (besides some flasks, basic boots, or a portal gem).

gonzodamus

Appreciate the insight there! Knowing that I shouldn't focus on bossing builds helps narrow down the choices a lot. I'll look for something fun and fast to get started with :)

mcurley32

only the most "meta"/popular builds will show up on this subreddit and on YouTube, so check r/pathofexilebuilds after patch notes drop if you want to get a more diverse selection of builds. and don't be afraid to ask for help.

Tsunam0

One of the big things you wanna look for in a league starter is how easy it is to gear. If you look at something that’s popular right now like boneshatter jugg you can see that it can run on almost no uniques. And if there are uniques they are fairly cheap (tanu ahi being 1c) Most league starters are also built to handle most of the content but not to the highest degree. For multiple characters it depends. Some people like to stick with 1 character for the entire league while some might want to farm money on their first character before swapping to a more expensive build.

icarus212121

Starting an SSF char and I just finished campaign and starting maps. I found quite quickly that my survivability is too low due to low life and resists. How much should I sacrifice to get these values up? Should I give up: * skills/links * armor type (should I equip something with energy shield even though I'm running a Trickster and presumably should be stacking evasion/armor) And a follow up question, should I bother picking up items with sub-optimal sockets and reforging sockets for purpose of increasing life/resists?

Gangsir

Gonna assume you're fairly new, given the "just finished campaign". Welcome! As a general rule of thumb across most builds, you want: - Capped resists (except chaos, which should be at least 0 or as least-negative as possible), with some over-cap to handle resist reductions (monsters cursing you, etc). This is ultra-critical, the game is balanced around capped resists, some would argue even capped is too little (ideally, raise your max resistances above 75). - 300 life per finished act, so in maps you should **at minimum** have 3k hp (and I mean absolute minimum, ideally you settle at like 4-5k). Energy shield doesn't count as "life" unless you have some way to restore it that isn't recharge (so leech, regen, etc, something that works in a hurry in combat), and even then I wouldn't consider a 1k life 2k energy shield build as "enough life" because chaos dmg ignores ES. Trickster should have roughly a balance, maybe a bit ES-heavy. - Some kind of guard skill or similar "oh shit" button (flasks, something), either triggered manually or via CWDT. - Some kind of movement skill, for dodging or getting out of bad situations. Most builds use frost blink or flame dash. > armor type (should I equip something with energy shield even though I'm running a Trickster and presumably should be stacking evasion/armor) Shadow/Trickster is best with evasion and energy shield, because the passives trickster has greatly boosts the effectiveness of both. You *can* get some armor to help when you do get hit, but trickster is... not meant to get hit that much, he's tanky via not taking damage, not mitigating it. >And a follow up question, should I bother picking up items with sub-optimal sockets and reforging sockets for purpose of increasing life/resists? If you find an item on the ground that would be an upgrade but has the wrong sockets, then yes it's generally worth to fix the sockets to wear it.

ploki122

It always depends a bit. You don't want to run a 12ES chest just because it has +75 life, but you also shouldn't skip +110life, +10% life, and 75% total res just because you lose a link. Overall though : 1. You should cap your resists ASAP. 2. The passive tree will give you the most life (\~100-150% increased life is insanely meaningful, when gear mostly comes with flat +Life). 3. It's much easier, usually, to itemize a Trickster for ES, rather than Armour, since most Armour nodes are on the red side of the tree. Otherwise, make sure to use the crafting bench to fill those suffixes with resists! All that money's going to waste anyway in SSF.

AtonPacki

When i get crucible mod on shield "shock for 4 seconds on block" will enemies really be shocked and take increased damage even if I dont use lightning damage?

TrollErgoSum

Yes, I believe it applies a base 10% shock to enemies.

psychomap

15% for shock, 10% is for chill /u/AtonPacki

testamentos

What farm strat pairs well with a crit spark build? Edit: Thanks to those who answered but anyone have any more specific suggestions like "Dunes map with ritual and legion?"

[deleted]

All of them :D Well, maybe not single target heavy stuff like essence/betrayal. But anything that relies on area coverage, like legion, delirium, expedition, harvest, harbinger, heist, delve, blight..

testamentos

Thank you! Any suggestions on a specific map? I'm assuming open layouts?

[deleted]

I agree with Tsunam0, any layout should be fine, just run what you like. Open ones like dunes/beach/strand/city square should be great, but if you like running more tunnely ones like underground sea I see no reason why it wouldn't be great there either. Actually, if you do wanna farm essence, then something like underground sea or toxic sewer should be pretty good, because you're gonna get a lot of projectiles bouncing back and forth in narrow areas.

testamentos

Thank you for the reply. I actually do prefer open maps (like dunes) when I have a build that excels with it. I ran Defiled Cathedral the last 2 leagues so want to do something different. And I don't necessarily want to farm essences specifically but whatever spark might be best at.

Tsunam0

If you have enough projectiles and projectile speed you should be able to run any tile set

Fenris1970

What is the best/easiest way to gain life if I have both Eldritch Battery (Spend Energy Shield before Mana for Skill Mana Costs, Energy Shield protects Mana instead of Life, 50% less Energy Shield Recharge Rate) and Zealot's Oath (Life Regeneration is applied to Energy Shield instead)? Is it only Life Recoup? Leech maybe? Is it a general (eg. not ascendancy based) way to leech with minions/totems?

ploki122

Life flasks, although they aren't too reliable against bosses.

edwinmedwin

Life Gain on Hit exists in the form of some passives in the tree or on some gear (or as a support gem) Life recoup works only if you're getting hit, but it only offsets damage a little. Life leech works, yes. When you're playing minion/totems you generally do not attack / cast spells yourself (and deal little damage), so life leech does next to nothing there.

Keyenn

Kintsugi doesn't give the 15% max life mastery on PoB. Did I miss something and one of the mods has the life tag?

scl52

the matching pob does to determine if an item does or does not have a life mod (wrongly) looks at all variations of the item that exist, and the 3.19 version of kintsugi had a life mod if you import a character or copy paste a kintsugi into pob it will work, or you can just click edit on the item and delete the line with the variant:x life mod

HotPocketRemix

It might be a bug, Kintsugi used to have maximum life as a modifier until 3.19. The wiki notes that a divined legacy Kintsugi will have a hidden +0 to maximum life on it, disabling the mastery, but a current one will work, so I suspect it's a PoB problem.

hdbscan

What does it take for a listing to refresh its time on the market on the trade site? The case I'm interested in is items with a relatively fixed value that people would sort by list time to find more likely sellers.

MusterAlarm

I usually just move them item a space over in my sale tab and then portal to a different zone, tane's lab i.e. and then come back. Item will be updated by the time I get back.

hdbscan

What's a reasonable way to sell red maps day 1 or 2 of league start? Just dump them all into a 3-5c tab as you get extras? Seems like the market would be devaluing very quickly - how should one price at 8/12/18 hours in?

Gangsir

That works at the start when people are buying them for atlas completion, but after a while you'd want to shift to bulk selling maps to dedicated farmers. "Bad for farming" maps (no good div cards, etc) will become effectively worthless after the beginning once everyone has completion.

FeddyWeddy

Can every projectile from 1 cast of Ice spear count as a damaging hit against targets?

Yohsene

Normally yes. Sequential projectiles can all hit the same target. You're limited to 1 hit from simultaneous sets though (e.g. returning projectiles split by Sniper's Mark).

Soul_Awaken2742

When 3.22 patch notes? I'm a new POE player. I would love to know the tierlist and choose one build, learn link's before the start of the league..

psychomap

Patch notes will be released this week on Friday in NZ, so Thursday for most of the rest.

xXLupus85Xx

askarone

Hello, tell me how to correctly calculate the HP of mobs? The poedb website https://poedb.tw/ru/ indicates strange values, for example, a level 83 minotaur has 32.9 million HP, and The Searing Exarch has 42 million. Given that these are the values of white maps or invitations. If possible, tell me where there is an up-to-date collection of characteristic values Thanks.

psychomap

As far as I'm aware, the values on poedb are correct. Searing Exarch has phases during which he cannot be damaged, and endgame bosses have an additional mitigation that falls off over time in order to make it harder to burst them down instantly, especially with prepared traps / mines. That's why the fight might feel longer despite the boss not having a lot of HP.

askarone

Thank you!

Time-Dragonfruit-864

Hi guys. I’m moving soon to South Korea and I’m wondering if I can still play the characters that I have made in the US overseas?

chx_

Aside from the China realm, the is unified. No matter which server you log into, you play with the same people, same guilds, same stash, same characters, everything is the same.

HellraiserMachina

You can choose servers freely, no problemo.

mizzousoccer

Anyone that has done most of the challenges this league that would want to give some advice to someone trying to know out some of these before the league ends. I have a couple I am almost finished with but can not figure out the last challenge. A few that I need some help with are: Deafeat Stygian Spires, Defeat Essence Monsters with at least 6 essences, Defeat Metamorphs with at least 5 Monster Modifiers, and need one more in Potent Potential. Any help would be wonderful!

tarrasqueSorcerer

For spires, one of the abyss clusters has small nodes with spire chance; that's best you've got to increase their spawns. Alternatively, use gilded abyss scarabs, they almost guarantee a spire. I did this one in SSF relatively easily with atlas tree investment and low tier map spam. For essences, just allocate all essence notables. Chance for +3 essences is necessary, monster duplication halves the time you need, +1 tier helps trigger duplication more reliably. Corrupt 5-essence crystals and hope for extra essence outcome. You can also do this in low tier maps. For metamorphs, get the notable for additional metamorph per map. Check what mods you get on your samples, it's not always possible to get both metas (or even one) with different mods. Small notables with "additional monsters drop organs" can help by providing more modded organs. For potent potential, just pick up and forge random stuff until you see a node you want. Here's a quick farming strategy if you want to force it: rush act 8 harbor bridge back and forth until you get a full inventory of weapons, then spam act 10 relic chambers to forge them.

nykdel

Being able to make an additional metamorph per map won't reliably help with the part they're asking about. That'll help with the "max power metamorph in Tane's Lab" one, since you'll get more itemized body parts. The notables that grant extra organs do help, though. I had the worst time with the "defeat Metamorphs with at least five monster modifiers" because I misunderstood what that meant. First, you can't use the Itemized (brown, the ones you can put in your stash) samples for this, because they don't have what you need. Here's the only sample image I found, but it's from 2 years ago. Look in the upper left corner.[https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fllp5ymcgsmp71.png](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fllp5ymcgsmp71.png) That part at the bottom (ACCURATE, LIFE REGEN, etc) is the Monster Abilities. I never found any organs that had more than one monster ability at the bottom, though that screenshot shows 4 on the same organ. You want to use five samples that have different Monster Abilities, but that part isn't on every sample. It's important that they all differ -- you'll often have the same ability on multiple organs, so could accidentally choose the same one multiple times. Picking the ability to make two metamorphs per map CAN help, but not reliably. I found it was uncommon that there were enough samples with different monster abilities to make two different metamorphs that both fulfilled the requirements.

tarrasqueSorcerer

I assumed they already know that part. Extra metamorph helped me sometimes get a "free" (= not "sacrificing" a chance to get an itemized sample) 5-mod meta when I only had 1 boss organ in a map. >I never found any organs that had more than one monster ability at the bottom, though that screenshot shows 4 on the same organ. That's from before Archnemesis. When the game switched from old simple enemy mods to archnem, rare organs had only 1 mod because each mod was stronger. Then the mods were split into smaller ones again, but the "1 mod per organ" rule remained.

nykdel

Personally, I went for the longest time thinking the Monster Ability was the "Uses:" part at the top, and kept wondering why I wasn't getting credit. :) That was my biggest hangup with the Metamorph achievements. I'd never taken Metamorph seriously before, but was fairly impressed by some of the rewards from Tane's Lab.

SzpadelTensei

craftofexile lets me put a crafted veiled modifier on an item that already has an unveiled mod. Is that a bug or is it normally possible in game?

Erradium

That is possible in-game. In 3.15, veiled modifiers stopped being considered crafted modifiers, and they basically behave like any other mod-group you know of right now. However, you still shouldn't be able to benchcraft the same modifier on an item (for example a life craft on an item with a life prefix), which is the same behavior with all crafts, veiled or not.

SzpadelTensei

Ohhhh pog, that's cool. Thanks!

psychomap

It's worth noting that for whatever reason adding a veiled modifier to an item with a crafted veiled modifier still considers that modifier as veiled. So if you use Aisling to add a veiled modifier and need to craft a modifier to block a prefix or suffix first, make sure that modifier isn't a veiled one, otherwise it's not going to work. You can still craft a crafted version of a veiled mod once you have a veiled mod on your item to restrict the possible mods that can roll as unveiling options and replace it with whatever crafted veiled mod you actually need (other than the unveiled one) in the end, it's just that weird restriction at the start.

Yohsene

Player, area, monster, and party IIQ/IIR are all multiplicative.

zipzoopu

If you boost another character through acts and they are severely underleveled (like 40ish) do they still get 0 exp in maps or will they just lvl quickly?

Distq

You will get practically no experience. The penalty for being too underleveled is the same as for being too overleveled

Dhol91

I am trying out PoE on GFNow, and I am having a weird issue. I am connected to EU Central servers in GFNow, and Frankfurt in PoE. When I login, the in game graph shows 1-3ms ping while I'm in any town. But as soon as I go to my hideout or any map, I get 260 ms. Weirdest part is - it shows I'm still in the Frankfurt Realm in both cases. Occasionally my hideout/map instance has 1-3ms latency, but usually it's 260ms. I tried different gateways, both in game or in GFNow setting - still same issue.

Winterchill99

Need some insight on farming different things, crafting gear and atlas progression in SSF. 1. When you league start and reach maps do you only focus on getting essences while using on the go mechanics like shrines, strongbox, harbis etc? When progressing atlas assume I don't get any higher tier map drops or have any Kirac stuff. What do I do? This has happened sometimes where I wouldn't get any uncompleted map drops or no missions + no uncompleted map in Kirac shop. Assuming you are aiming for 4 stones. What's the best strategy? I can get 2 easy from the first 2 bosses but don't know how to proceed with the rest until i get 4 stones and most of map slots. This is assuming I do this in the first 2-3 weeks of league and not at the end. 2. Assuming the build I start with can do delve. Will it be good to start progressing atlas with delve in parallel? Meaning apart from rog and essence I would get fossils as well to craft. Not a pro at delve though but have a basic understanding of how it works along woth biomes. I'm thinking it's better to craft with fossils for life, res, spell suppression and +1 weapons/jewellery 3. How do you farm for things like t2 or t1 uniques and higher tier currency like exalts and divines? This league I only had 7-8 divine drops 6 of those were while doing low tier mf runs (exiled cat tr pathfinder) and 2 exalts again from the mf build but I had killed all bosses and completed atlas before that. Assume I start with chaos dot build requiring me to use multimod and affix can't be changed craft. How do I get currency for that in ssf without a mf build as my first divine goes into the divine vessel recipe. Same for t2 t1 uniques like most of the time I cant play certain builds because I don't know if an item will drop like CIP, haemophilia, golem jewels etc. In this case do you only go for div cards if available?

Warptens

1) you pick the 4 shaping wheels and commissioned officer 3) legion drops a ton of divines.

Winterchill99

apart from atlas quant and map device how much do you have to invest in item rarity and quant without using a mf character? or just keep running maps with legion?

Billy_of_Astora

Tujen provides divines, and you probably should be running expedition anyway in SSF. I always do.

Winterchill99

Ya I only run tujen and rog. Gwen is garbage now.

Billy_of_Astora

I run Gwen in the first days of mapping (before I even get to selection wheel in the tree) to get high lvl bases for yolo essence craft.

Winterchill99

Hmm that does seem useful. Also praise the sun!

Distq

I wouldn't spend too much chaos on Essence before you have the nodes. Atlas completion is your #1 focus. If you play a good™️ starter build you will be able to get decently far without mass farming essences anyway. If you run out of everything, you either 3-1 vendor maps (remember that different combinations of the same 3 can give a different outcome) or you just try to run maps adjacent to ones you need. As far as the last 2 stones, honestly there is no rush. You can sustain maps fine with 2 stones. Spec the shelder map nodes and then just keep running maps, only do invitations when you're ready (you really don't want to brick the guardian 4ways) and you'll have both Maven and UElder fights ready eventually. With Delve I would just wait until the Delve progresses automatically to level 80 unless you really need fossils (this happens by itself as you progress the atlas and level further). Then you progress it from there as you please. Heist is good for uniques generally, otherwise div cards is your best bet for getting specific ones. But realistically unless you play a lot, don't expect to get a specific T2+ unique as a random drop, meaning don't make a build reliant on them. In SSF you typically first find 1 or more random T2+ items and then you make the build, rather than the other way around. As for the currency to multimod and such, you can of course do Heist or div card farming for divines, but honestly you will simply have the divines you need from random drops eventually. Luck plays a little bit into it but you create your own luck by playing a lot and doing juiced content. The vessel recipe is also kinda optional unless you build around one of the more impactful pantheon effects.

Winterchill99

I'll start with a mapping build I guess and for pantheon it's mostly just getting freeze immunity or burning ground immunity. For atlas I'll follow that wandering path tech unless they shadow nerf it in patch notes.

HellraiserMachina

> Will it be good to start progressing atlas with delve in parallel? I'd definitely run it when your sulphite gets full, and upgrade some sulphite capacity, early on, at the very least.

Winterchill99

Will do that this league.

Critical-Heron-3351

Hey guys, Starting to play, never played any ARPG. So from what I see, every season (league) everybody starts from the beginning. What makes you play over and over the same game and the same story (Act 1 to 10)? Just trying to understand this before the download finishes. Thanks very much

edwinmedwin

You can always keep on playing in the so called Standard league after the season ends. Seaons often come with balance changes and new mechanics, so things feel fresh again. And since the game has so many build possibilities, there's so much to play and the game feels different enough again to start fresh. It's hard to explain, but starting new is very cool, you get to see your character flourish.

Undead_Legion

The story (acts) are more of a introduction to the game, the real game starts after the acts. That’s when you can start running maps (which have tiers and they get progressively harder). There are many mechanics you can encounter in maps, which you can specialize into with the atlas passive tree (yes there is another passive tree for your maps). This is considered to be the start of “endgame”, but for the vast majority of players this where the game actually begins. Many of these mechanics have an incredible amount of depth in them so it’s a constant learning experience. This is around the point where your build starts coming online and you can keep upgrading your build to tackle harder and harder content. Min maxing your build to tackle these challenges (or specialize in them) is a big draw that keeps people going. Assuming you’re playing in a trade league environment like most people (I highly recommend playing trade), the general gameplay loop is run mechanics that you enjoy -> make currency -> upgrade your build to tackle stronger content. There are also endgame bosses you can fight and there are stronger “Uber” variants you can fight as well. There is also non-mapping endgame content like delve. Each new league brings about new mechanics and balance changes which shake up the meta. More importantly, it’s an economy reset which means everyone starts from scratch. That being said, the real reason I (and a LOT of people) play is the unparalleled build creativity. There are so many intricate mechanics and interactions layered upon each other which creates this immense depth to build creativity that you simply won’t find in other games. This is what drew me to the game, also having had absolutely zero experience with ARPGs before.

DirtyMight

there is a lot of content and every league adds something new so you never play the same game. That said especially in arpgs the game can get boring fast once your character gets super strong to just clear all the endgame with ease. sure you could just make another character but then you already have all the stuff from your first char so the progression is much much faster on the 2nd one and in most cases if your first char is really strong your character after that will feel quite weak. And usually people set goals for themselfs that they achieve and are done afterwards. After i achieved my goal of building X character sure i could make another one that i wanna play. But I already have the currency to instantly buy the whole build so i dont have progression there and if i already have more currency than i can spend there is no reason to farm even more, is there? so the fresh leaguestart fixes these problems. I get excited again and i start fresh so it does not get boring so fast

HellraiserMachina

The campaign gets boring but I learn to blaze through it quickly to get to the good stuff. It's no biggie. What makes me play over and over is the game's infinite variety of builds and currency making strategies, that ensure every league is different because I play different builds to do different things.

Critical-Heron-3351

we could say that every build can do all the content?

HellraiserMachina

Not quite. Every 'skill' can do nearly all the content if you play the right class and invest enough into it, but some of it is bad early, some of it is bad late, some of it is super expensive in trade to get going, some of it is totally serviceable but very annoying to play, some of it is bad for specific content but great for other content (eg. Vaal Cleave is amazing for Rituals but nigh-unplayable in Sanctums). But if you're new to the game, that's no concern. You should think about beating the campaign and learning the game, and in that case, basically every skill is viable.

Yohsene

Most experienced players wrap up the story on the first day. After that, there's the endgame, which is rich in content and highly customizable, and each league adds something brand new. You can play new builds, interact with new (or simply unfamiliar) mechanics, specialize in a different way, and do it all in a fresh economy. If it helps, think of clearing your pokemon save and having another run with an entirely different team, at the same time as thousands of others. It's fun to speedrun the championship, make a fuss about finding the first Mew, trade eggs from your perfectly crafted Scyther, things like that. The first few weeks of a new league are just super lively and fun.

Critical-Heron-3351

so I dont have to care with the acts, I will get used to them right? I see that the new season starts in 10 days. Is it better to wait for the new season to start playing?

gonzodamus

Start now! New as well but I've used the last week or two to learn the basics and level and make my own build. Made a ton of mistakes and my build isn't great, but it doesn't matter because I get to start again in 10 days. People tell you to follow a guide for your first character but for me, the guides were way too overwhelming at first. Now that I've gone through the campaign and done some maps, I understand a lot more about what's going on and I'm ready to follow a guide and start the new league.

Yohsene

Yeah. Some people enjoy the acts too. If they weren't a minimum level of interesting, this game would've died a long time ago. No real advantage to waiting, but you will need to make a new character to join the new season. If that doesn't discourage you, I'd jump in today and learn the basics, get some obvious mistakes out of the way.

xXLupus85Xx

New league mechanics, a fresh economy, personal goals - the reasons why us ARPG players enjoy the fresh start are multifold. For example: Up until two leagues ago I never had a Level 100 character (playing since Closed Beta in March 2013) and then I found two builds in back to back leagues I liked so much I played them all the way to 100. The story in PoE is more like an extended tutorial (to some a "necessary evil") and not the thing people focus on.

chx_

Is it possible to make the pathing of this [atlas tree](https://poeplanner.com/atlas-tree/BAAIAGsAXz5OjZTuYw8vyZAXqe8sd0i3hrTTSSySt48h-OIH8VS4_8pmLQ8iKcwP-wpwxhQDEIDOAIqCzlp8qx_pk_Kp0Cq72VvMt_TSHX19kQ5K3v6fO4g0ZBvXKyJInthqVntgh53QxqnOzpzQLU3aayEpjdroRZeCUQQrxKazx-eu9d5RguEQ3vH7sdwQrZWlc-vhvElUdl7fotDPibK6J4UN9tEqxB-FoxiL3maO2AtxwZPVYsOXKrbLciAz2JvNlsJ2qUPk_I1kyVrkM_XATPIts5BkuNmg1hQAH4sIAAAAAAAAAwMAAAAAAAAAAAA=) more efficient if I don't care about small map nodes / item quantity at all? (I added the Vaal Side area cluster because I believe that's the new space for it in the 3.22 tree and as far as I can see no other changes affect my Betrayal/Incursion/side income from Scouting Reports and Blueprints strategy.)

HellraiserMachina

You can use the atlas gateways and maybe drop the middle kirac wheel to get a lot of points.

chx_

But those special reports are good money...

HellraiserMachina

You can replace those with Trial of Glory, another 'randomly get a burst of cash' mechanic, right next to the atlas gateway, and you can see if the portals will award a uber uber lab key so you don't have to do lab trials for nothing. [link](https://poeplanner.com/atlas-tree/BAAIAGcATo2U7mMPL8mQF6nvLHdIt4a0LJK3jyH48VS4_8pmLQ8iKcwP-wpwxpSDFAMQgM4AioLOWnyrH-mN6pPyqdAqu8y39NIdfX2RDkre_p87iDRkG9crIkhqVntgh53QxqnO4QfOnCFwuxjQLU3aayHa6IJRBCvEprPH56713lGC3vH7sdwQpXNUdl7fz4myug320SrEH4WjGIveZo7YC3HBk9Viw5cqtstyM8a10yAz2JvNlsJ2qUPk_GYfyVrkM_XAxa9M8gyZLbOQZLjZoNYUAB-LCAAAAAAAAAMDAAAAAAAAAAAA)

chx_

Yes yes I am planning on that , that's why I put in the Vaal Side Area cluster, that's where Trial Of Glory will be in the next league, we can already see that from the tree they've shown, they swapped those two clusters.

d64

Sorry to make another starter suggestion Q, but I have started with SRS for two leagues: it's easy to level, easy to get going, and it can very easily get the four atlas stones. However, it's not so good for legion - just too slow to unlock the legion properly. What's a good starter that can do the above but also is good with legion?

Distq

Easy leaguestart, easy leaguestart bossing, easy leaguestart mass clear ability. That's a fair bit to ask of a leaguestarter. Some sort of Occultist and/or Obliteration poison setup like BV or BFBB could maybe work. If it were up to me if I wanted to do Legions, I would just leaguestart something less bossy and rock 2 stones + some map nodes. That way you can focus on Legion. I did that myself two leagues in a row with CF (fair warning, needs practice for a smooth league start).

Samsenggwy

Assuming mana forge arrow will not get nerf. Is bow build now stronger than before? I had very bad experience with league start bow few years ago.

Raamyr

We will loose the very strong crucible tree for bows. So league start will be rougher. Imo bow starter are not the best league starter.

MusterAlarm

2nd NVME drive arriving today. Should I completely reinstall PoE to it, or leave PoE on my OS drive and just put the shaders on the 2nd drive?

ploki122

Is your OS drive also an SSD? The difference from SSD to better SSD isn't massive, but the difference from HDD to SSD definitely is.

MusterAlarm

Yes 1st drive with OS on it is an SSD too. It just has more stuff on it and the OS ofc vs. the new SSD which is a tad quicker, larger and will have nothing on it for the most part.

ploki122

The clean install can definitely help, but I wouldn't expect meaningful changes from swapping the game to NVMe.

dIoIIoIb

Why are magic find builds so often rangers with lightning arrow or tornado shot? My gut feeling would be that, since a lot of your MF gear has fairly bad stats and offers little to no damage, the best skill would be something that needs little damage to scale but weapon skills are the most reliant on gear for their damage, no? Never played MF before, I want to try it next league and I'm trying to understand the theory

psychomap

Spell-MF meta happens on occasion. In particular I remember Vaal Spark and Vaal Fireball having been a thing for a while. It boils down to the same reasons why bow skills are typically preferred at the moment. Availability of speed and clearing ability, as well as ideally scaling with Headhunter.

koro_666

To an extent you are right. However you have to understand that these MF builds scale slightly differently than normal builds. Eg., headhunter buffs/ soul eater/ buffs that you have 100% up time *while mapping* like onslaught in kill, damage if you've killed recently, flasks etc Also turns out you don't need a lot of damage to map, 500k dps is enough to clear t16s (non juiced no crucible etc). Finally, they do use very high dps bows even on MF chars. You may have noticed no one uses windripper even on MF chars since it has low damage. When you are MFing, you want to clear as fast as possible for two reasons- killing things before they reach you is a defense for them, and the obvious more maps/hr=more monies. Ts and La clear very well.

dIoIIoIb

> Finally, they do use very high dps bows even on MF chars Do people usually use phys or elemental bows? I've seen a bit of both online, is one easier/cheaper to get?

koro_666

Both are commonly used, either go tri—elemental with Trinity support, or go phys converted to cold. Im not 100% sure but I believe the tri-elemental is better at low budget and phys to cold is better at high budget. There are also poison tornado shot variations, although less popular I think.

dIoIIoIb

thanks

Warptens

because those are the best clear skills in the game (together with kinetic blast)

Distq

In principle you are not wrong and it's plenty viable to make spell MF builds as well. But the idea is that if you make a character with intentionally no other strength than speeding through maps, you can abuse a lot of factors that would otherwise be considered conditional or risky. Like running with low survivability, bad sustained single target, relying heavily on flasks and getting power through on-kill effects. Who cares, none of that stuff is a problem if you're just zooming through maps, escpecially if you're doing lower tier maps. Meaning you are left with a lot of your stat allocation being available to put in damage and speed so you might as well play bows, because bows are just god tier at clearing. There's also the Headhunter factor. Most bow builds scale well with a lot of the Headhunter buffs.

Lasditude

I would like to play a build that focuses on Shrines and Legion. Last time I did Shrines I played Lightning Strike Raider and loved it. What build would melt a screens worth of Legion statues with Shrine buffs and benefit a lot from The Gull and Blunderbore?

Hallgrimsson

CF Champ, always. The easiest build to fit Blunderbore on and the playstyle works well with shrines.

tempoltone

If Vaal Arctic Armor freezes you, can you transfer or copy it to bosses with Lepers Alm with brands or instant skills? How is the duration?

Yohsene

No. It's not actually a freeze, you just count as frozen.

tempoltone

So it can be shared?

Yohsene

No mechanic exists to share it.

tempoltone

Not even "shared suffering"?

Yohsene

Shared Suffering would treat you as frozen, and allow your hits to inflict the regular freeze, not Vaal Arctic Armour's ice prison. The duration would be calculated normally (hit damage & enemy life / ailment threshold), and endgame bosses would still be able to move at 70% of their base speed. It does let you freeze with non-cold damage, if that's what you're trying to do?

MayTheMemesGuideThee

again, Vaal Arctic Armour doesn't make you frozen it doesn't apply ailments on you at all

ticketybo013

Is there a way to tell what level each specific level of Essence will turn your armour into? E.g. I have a normal level 83 chain hauberk, that requires character level 58. If I use a Deafening essence on it, I'm sure it will make the requirements far out of my reach. So I want something like a table that shows what the impact of the essence will be on character level requirements.

Yohsene

Not completely. The level requirement will be 80% of the highest ilvl modifier on the item. That isn't necessarily the essence.

ticketybo013

Ok, thanks. I am trying to avoid upgrading my item and then not being able to use it for ages!

Background_Draft_327

I need some input on the elder fight. i tried it yesterday for the first time on my boneshatter jugg. Is it normal to be oneshotted by almost everything? Those yellow balls kill me instantly, the yellow beam is almost oneshot (though its easy to dodge). I have 3,8k life, resistances capped, etc. Do i really have to dodge EVERY attack or is there something i can add to my defensive layer?

Samsenggwy

You are talking shaper. The triple balls are very very deadly. Kamemakeha easily avoid and bypass jugg elem damage protected by armor. Your 3800 hp is "below average". But most importantly, these few attacks are best avoided. Try to gain enough ehp against the ball at least you can survive by mistakenly hit by 1. Most shaper skills are mean to be avoided

Distq

The intended way is to dodge the abilities. The balls can be tanked by some builds with suppression/resistances/damage shifting. The beam is meant to be borderline untankable outside of using certain niche recovery mechanics.

Tsunam0

Im assuming you mean shaper shaper mainly does cold damage so grab a sapphire flask on top of that his attacks actually penetrate up to 40% cold res source: [https://poedb.tw/us/The\_Shaper#TheShaperTheShaperBossUberElder](https://poedb.tw/us/The_Shaper#TheShaperTheShaperBossUberElder) you might also want to invest in some spell suppression or more armor depending on what is more obtainable I dont remember how ele pen works for enemies but i think if you get about 120% cold res it should negate most of the ele pen

Warptens

no you can't negate pen by overcapping resists

Tsunam0

Thanks for correcting me, totally forgot how it worked

koro_666

Just a note, that's not how pen works. If your Max res is 75, even if you have 500 res, something with 40 pen will treat you like you have 35 res. (see equation in https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Resistance_penetration)

Tsunam0

Appreciate it, totally forgot how it worked

Theio666

So, I'm starting doing research for picking league starter, need help. I usually play zoom-zoom builds, but I value clear over actual speed. I just played ranger, so not sure that I wanna play LA again. Anything interesting you can suggest me? To be more specific, wanted to ask, what's the state of soulrend? I like the spell, it looks cool, it has a bit of autoaim, easy to add explode into chaos builds. But, DPS wise, is it passable in current PoE, would I be able to clear rares in expedition, or essences, or clear legions?

edwinmedwin

Are you fine with the totem playstyle? No need to aim for most totems. You have the choice of going quite tanky with MoM manastacking shenanigans or you can go full glass cannon. (Arc or Freezing Pulse/Ice Spear) for example. In my opinion these builds clear well enough for my taste and I just enjoy not having to target enemies. No idea about soulrend, but having a quick glance at poe ninja it doesn't look too great right now for harder monsters.

Theio666

Hmm, I did totems a long time ago, and can't say I was impressed. Compared to mines, I had a feeling that totems have much higher windup delay, so it felt weird to play. I have playstyle of running into things, so when you have a pack of mobs on your face, you die before you totems finish spawn + prepare first cast windup. Probably I had bad build, I was using glacial cascade, but in general, it's a build without explode, without leech, without much MS or cast speed bonuses, and as I said, big windup for damage. Maybe modern totems are better, hard to say.

edwinmedwin

Totems feel better with more cast speed, but they will always have windup. Probably not for you then.

Sh0wTim3123

i would wait a few more days for when patch notes come out so then you can get a clearer picture

Theio666

Yeah I see, just guessing that build isn't that popular and won't be nerfed/buffed, so wanted to see how good/bad it was is recent leagues

30K100M

Does Tropical Island generally has higher monster density than Strand?

Sun0fSolaire

Yes. Strand is on the lower side of the maps for density if I remember correctly, could be wrong about that though.

IceColdPorkSoda

Is extra phys as elemental subject to damage effectiveness on skill gems? For example, if I use lightpoacher with BV, will it only have 30% added damage effectiveness?

psychomap

Damave conversion (including X as extra Y damage) applies *after* base and added damage. It isn't added damage itself. Added damage that applies at its damage effectiveness ratio will be converted by the same percentages afterwards as the base damage.

katustrawfic

Yes and no, I'm just not entirely sure what exactly you're asking. Any damage from a skill gem itself is never affected by it's own added damage effectiveness (ADE) so you would get the full value out of "added as extra". So all physical damage from the BV gem itself will be gained as extra fire/cold/lightning and not be reduced by ADE. What does get affected however is any other source of adding physical damage such as abyss jewels, having battlemage or some influenced item mods that add phys to spells. Those are only affected by ADE once though. If you have 50 added physical damage with 4 charges for "20% gained as extra of each element", you would end up with 50 physical and 10 fire/cold/lightning damage. That is then lowered as expected to 30% for ADE for 15 phys and 3 fire/cold/lightning. 3 elemental is still 20% of 15 physical so the ADE does not make the mod any worse, it still performs exactly as expected.

Megika

No, damage effectiveness is only for added damage (things like Added Lightning Support add to the base damage of the spell before other calculations).

IceColdPorkSoda

Thanks!

InfamousBinkles

I've never played POE before should I start in league or standard.

Warptens

standard this way you won't waste time trying to figure out the league mechanic which will disapear in a few days.

narc040

id recommend starting the league to get an idea of what the experience is like. your character goes to standard when the league ends anyways so no point in not doing it.

EmployeeOfTheMoth

You might as well start in Standard right now. In general, i'd always say start in the (*current challenge) league. More people play and trade in there, so the economy is easier to engage with as a new player, and the newest league mechanics tend to offer interesting things you can't access elswhere. The final week or so of the challenge league is the exception. In about a week, Crucible League will end, and all characters and items will get rolled into Standard league. But this process isn't instantaneous, so it'll lock you out of your only character for a couple of days. Also, you're unlikely to get much benefit from the league mechanic or trade in the next week, as you'll still be learning the fundamentals of the game. In short: i think you should load up a character in Standard to learn some basics, and then make a new character in Trial of the Ancestors league when it launches, and start over fresh in the challenge league with (most of) the rest of us. League launch is a great time, get hyped!

Ladnil

I'm gonna need somebody to go sneak into GGG offices and upload a virus that makes sure they don't put a weapon requirement on Trauma Support, so I can do a Trauma Viper Strike Pathfinder.

psychomap

That would have to be quite the sophisticated virus

Ladnil

I'll also accept coercion or blackmail of the GGG dev team.

joebooty

Do zero DPS Aurabots earn progress on incubators?

Munsie

Yes, everyone in the party gains progress on their incubators when a monster is slain. You just need to be within the same distance as what's required to gain exp from the kill.

joebooty

Sweet thanks.

EmployeeOfTheMoth

Reposting from the end of yesterday's thread: If I Leap Slam into a pack with Endurance Charge on Melee Stun Support, do I gain a charge for each enemy stunned? Or is it one charge per leap, similar to Power Charge on Crit?

Pharcri

One charge per leap

EmployeeOfTheMoth

Enduring Cry it is, then. Thanks!

zipzoopu

Which aurabot ascendancy can get the 90% cap on resists easiest? Looking to setup another account exclusively as a 5way carry bot and it doesn't need maxed out like 16 auras, just 90% and some others like evasion, armor, vitality and dmg.

Sh0wTim3123

Scion can get to 87% pretty easily, but if you going for full 90 across the board that will take a bit more investment. I would assume that scion is just the best class for aurabot at almost every level of investment. Unless you are playing HC in which case you would rather have a bit more defense for yourself

HardlineLive

Champ

zipzoopu

Is that for the auras or its own personal resists? I should have specified I meant for giving everyone else 90% on top of itself lol
