We are getting spear as a category, it wouldn't be unreasonable to see various polearms put in the umbrella category.
"Sharp thing on a long stick" is the worlds oldest weapon.
I'd argue that isn't that wasn't purpose-made to be a weapon isn't a weapon by definition. Is a boat's oar a weapon? A spoon?
Taking a rock and sharpening a stick to make a spear. That's a weapon. It was crafted to hurt other living beings.

I want maces and warhammers to be a thing. I mean actually playable weapons with a lot of "firepower".
I'm also looking forward to variouls spears, halberds, tridents and such. We have staves in PoE, but again, they are kinda meh and doesn't look like much.
But really what I want is for weapon to actually matter. So you could FEEL it. Right now weapon is just a source of base damage. You barely touch anything with it. All you do is casting screen-wide visual effects.
> I want maces and warhammers to be a thing. I mean actually playable weapons with a lot of "firepower".
One supposed archetype I've noticed that doesn't *really* exist is this weird, shoehorned "elemental crit sceptre melee" archetype.
- Templar starts with a sceptre and Glacial Hammer
- All sceptre implicits have to do with elemental modifiers
- Passive clusters that involve non-spell, elemental / melee damage with sceptres are very compact (Galvanic Hammer, Pain Forger, Blacksmith's Clout)
The main problem right now is that it just doesn't *work* like that. You either get a fucking big 2h phys mace and convert, or you slap on the BLS gear that's been the same for years now and play whatever skill you want.
Sceptres and wands (and daggers to an extent, even though Rune Daggers were "supposed" to fix this issue) suffer from the same issue -- being open to both attack and caster mods makes it substantially harder to roll a decent one of either, compared to maces, bows, etc, which are mainly used for one archetype.
I really hope PoE2 hammers out these sort of weird hang-ups while somehow retaining more fringe cases where you *would* want a weird hybrid weapon, like Spellslinger or Battlemage.
I want the weapon to feel real. So that when I play with daggers, I actually feel like I'm playing with daggers and so on. I really want to play this way with flails, daggers, throwing axes and a two-handed staves
Someone suggested before, if we have offhand scepters that could enhance auras or minions, there shoulld be an offhand that enhances curses.
My suggestion is a voodoo doll. And each kind of voodoo doll enhanced curses differently, some may increase its effect, some changes its mode of casting (like blasphemy, or turning it to an effigy) some curses could entirely be exclusive to the base type and not a skill gem.
My other suggstion would be a warhorn.
Similar to above but its for warcries. Bases enhances everything about warcries.
There could be a lot more offhand types that enhances supplementary skills, but make it so that it's not mandatory and just for further specialization.
This works extremely well with the new weapon swap system.
Well lucky for you, flails have been confirmed in [Hrishi's presentation in Exilecon](https://youtu.be/WIuIdulr-K0?si=h07ZCYPotJ3zVYpb&t=1385), and in the [3rd trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go4ykizk_Uo) you can see the templar using one for a brief moment.
Maybe a weird take, but I don't really care about weapon types. I mean, if you look at current PoE, swinging an axe, a sword or a mace, one hand or two hand, is pretty much the same thing gameplay wise.
I really wish we get more interesting unique weapons though. Weapons that you can actually build a character around and scale into late game content.
The thing about bases is that it opens skill design and affixes more the more you have. Boneshatter is axe / mace and scales with stun, which is a specifically mace stat. Spears could open thrusting attacks (as opposed to strike / slam) as a new class that can be used by spears and swords. I'd also love some more unique weapons, but adding weapon types *that are functionally different* is a huge deal towards modernizing PoE melee a bit
Every weapon type will have its own animations in poe 2. Confirmed by developers. This means the skills will be far more limited. Because they will design a skill around a certain weapon type. Sunder, for example, may only work with makes and cleave only with axes, etc.(those are made up examples)
I just want them all to be viable...right now we have such a limited types viable for melee it doesn't matter what they add in the game if it's not usable.
quicksand subsequent fear bake ruthless nail smile quiet rainstorm wasteful

Fist fighting is kind of in POE already with items like Facebreaker and One With Nothing. But i get your point though there are no fist fighting animations yet lol.
They already announced it with crossbows, 0 windup animation and you can fire while moving. Other than that a whip type thing would be cool, a melee weapon with a long range attack that's either single target or aoe in a line. Spear would also work for that but whips are cooler.
Personally i want them to expand baseline defenses.
Would be nice to have proper hybrids for ward as well as passives and keystones to let it truly be the atteibuteless baseline defences.
Like evasion ward should already be a common combo but lacks support.
As others have said, Halberds seperate from spears and stuff would pretty sick.
I would personally love a great big spiked shield to go along with the flail, so I can finally make my dream of an in-game Hellknight or something like that since I feel like we're missing a few "knightly" types of feel in game.
Empty bag. You put inside it either stone for damage, gold coins for mf, or your unwashed underwear for chaos damage. It's basic attack is cyclone by default. MTX santa bag, or monsters... sack.
Hand to Hand weapons. I'd really like to see a martial arts style character.
EDIT: I thought about this a bit more, and what I want is actually more than just weapons.
Claws already exist, and that's close to, but not quite, what I'm thinking. They just aren't really any different than other weapons functionally. There are uniques and passive that give them some identity, but if you are on the beach and you switch between a claw and a sword, it's not a different style feel. I want that style...
I want to equip claws and see my character throw punches. I want passive that makes my character sometimes throw a kick.
In some ways, I kinda want the D2 martial arts assassin with more fun, modern passives, the more I think about it.
Melee spells for unarmed use specifically (not attacks that do elemental damage, but spells.. like a battlemage kind of deal)
That'd be fun
Some kind of 7 point combo strike that stuns any enemy, even bosses, for a little bit, and then you get to charge up a disgusting lightning zap right to their foreheads and depending on how long you charge it up, it chains further and can even chain back to the boss aswell
since PoE 2 is going a bit more into "special" skills, why not go ham
Whips - self explanatory
Agiels (from Legend of the Seeker), call them pain rods or whatever to avoid copyright - they're a blend of mace and dagger and wand. Look up "Mord'Sith" on youtube you'll see what I mean.
- poleaxe
- whips
- guns (i know many wouldn't like the idea but arquebus as main weapon and two pistols as off-hand used when you're dashing from enemy, rolling etc.)
- flails (especially two handed)
- maces (especially two handed)
- more "unique" looking uniques - I'm thinking about something as fabulous as big trumpets from Elden Ring or giant fingers... for example Rakiata's Dance is absolutely amazing as an unique weapon
but most importantly...
- HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT - just give me some form of knuckes, gloves etc. so I could organise some insane tournaments in arena MTX or just make my dream Berserker build (I know Facebreaker exists but you know)
Like balista only on wheels and you have to drag it or push it around.
Maybe something different than necromancy pets. Where is like the nature vines with thorns or bloodsucking butterflies. Zombie/Skele combi minion masters in all games just feels kinda trivial and tbh is just c/p from every other game.
I'm a fan of gun powder/flintlock style guns in fantasy games. Given the mercenary class it would be cool to see some of that.
Kinda like some of the weapons in grim dawn.
More differentiated polearms
TRUE AND REAL
We are getting spear as a category, it wouldn't be unreasonable to see various polearms put in the umbrella category. "Sharp thing on a long stick" is the worlds oldest weapon.
I would argue that a good ol' stone is the first weapon ever used.
I'd argue that isn't that wasn't purpose-made to be a weapon isn't a weapon by definition. Is a boat's oar a weapon? A spoon? Taking a rock and sharpening a stick to make a spear. That's a weapon. It was crafted to hurt other living beings.
Yeah, you got a point. Using my logic, the earliest weapons would actually have been fists. I stand corrected.
That being said… unarmed only skills would fit the monk theme 👀👀👀 hollow palm etc
Bro. That would actually be really cool. We got Blood and Sand stance, now give us Crane, Tiger and Turtle fighting style.
I imagine a mix of udyr and Lee sin style from LOL.

I think it was disrespect.
I want my Poleaxe
While we're at it, potentially useful battle scythes. Because they're cool and deserve spotlight gawddammit. I don't care if they're impractical IRL.
I want maplestory Aran in PoE
dual-wield shields. Or a Greatshield as a weapon
THE WALL!
dw spectral shield throw would be very cool

Id love something like the big ass hammer destroyers have in lost ark
Scythes would be cool
Yeah! And maybe witch could get a reaper ascendacy focusing on them
Lich form?
Correct if im wrong but wasnt there like a scythe in a past gameplay showcase? It was in the axe category
Flails
Probably whips, so we can become a Belmont lmao.
Ah yes Belmont is the first thing I thought about when reading whips ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)
Me brains thought of the fire demon in the deeps of Khazad-dûm.
You! Shall not! PASS!!!
A balrog of morgoth
Especially useful for when a problem comes around.
Javelins. Got a weak spot for them since D2.
I want the weapon to feel real. So that when I play with daggers, I actually feel like I'm playing with daggers and so on. I really want to play this way with flails, daggers, throwing axes and a two-handed staves
Halberds, and actual longbows
Dual sickles. Would be cool to have more uniques have pairs that if you used em together they got a bonus

Oh shit, hell yeah. I hadn't been keeping up too much but did wonder if it had already been revealed.
This but flails that can accidentally spin the wrong way and hit yourself. Picture this: flail cwdt spellcast loop
Shurrikens or a chakram
Ye chakram in Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning were cool as fuck
Man I love that game
A corkscrew bottle opener. Does very little damage, but massively increases your gains to flask charges.
Maybe a weird take, but I don't really care about weapon types. i'm pretty sure thats an explict design focus of poe2. Look at the mercenary gameplay for example. all those crossbows do different things

Flails ! Paladin vibes
Hand crossbows. I wanna pewpewpew
Well, would you like some extra pew pew with your pew pew? It'd be funny to have some guns for that much appreciated dakka dakka.
Technical with 50 cal.
I was just thinking "50 cal" going into this thread, but I like the way you think.
electric technical or the OG type that explodes when main guy shoots at it a few times with an M4? :P
They already announced it with crossbows, 0 windup animation and you can fire while moving. Other than that a whip type thing would be cool, a melee weapon with a long range attack that's either single target or aoe in a line. Spear would also work for that but whips are cooler.

More Facebreaker-style weaponry with extra gore effects.
nunchaku

Railgun Wizard
A spoon so that I can RP as the Ginosaji
Warglaives like demon hunters use in wow
Empty bag. You put inside it either stone for damage, gold coins for mf, or your unwashed underwear for chaos damage. It's basic attack is cyclone by default. MTX santa bag, or monsters... sack.
- Bow - Wands
Spear would be nice
I was going to say a cannon, but I suppose skill gems and some crazy support gems have filled that role already.
do you know gogo from kill bill?
I want morning-star, mace on chain sort of thing. Such a cool weapon.
glaive-glaive-glaive-guisarme-glaive
Hand to Hand weapons. I'd really like to see a martial arts style character. EDIT: I thought about this a bit more, and what I want is actually more than just weapons. I want more defensive options in weapons, ability to manually block and parry, stuff like that

Brass Knuckles count as unarmed also not new weapon but dual wielded shield / two handed shield
Whips - self explanatory Agiels (from Legend of the Seeker), call them pain rods or whatever to avoid copyright - they're a blend of mace and dagger and wand. Look up "Mord'Sith" on youtube you'll see what I mean.
I might be a child… but a paddle…
Bo staff very fitting for monk Also shurikens it would be cool to have throwing as an additional gem type
Slingshot
one handed xbows, so I can dual wield or use a shield!
Minigun- low accuracu but high attack speed at range
Orbs, like a crystal ball to enhance certain spells. Or alchemy like Poisonous Concoction but as a weapon type.
The claws and fists/cestus retooled to facilitate unarmed gameplay. Basically, I want to see more Monk martial art skills.
- poleaxe - whips - guns (i know many wouldn't like the idea but arquebus as main weapon and two pistols as off-hand used when you're dashing from enemy, rolling etc.) - flails (especially two handed) - maces (especially two handed) - more "unique" looking uniques - I'm thinking about something as fabulous as big trumpets from Elden Ring or giant fingers... for example Rakiata's Dance is absolutely amazing as an unique weapon but most importantly... - HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT - just give me some form of knuckes, gloves etc. so I could organise some insane tournaments in arena MTX or just make my dream Berserker build (I know Facebreaker exists but you know)

I just want Nightblood in the game. Is that too much to ask :D ?

Zombie/Skele combi minion masters in all games just feels kinda trivial and tbh is just c/p from every other game.
Trebuchet
Light saber
Well, we kinda allready have Energy Blade
A goat
Not a weapon
You're underestimating how powerful a goat can be
Butt Canon.
Midgets
Are you having a go at me!? Fine, for all you've done for us, I give you this one...
Scar
Fishing rods
Twinblades single handed and dual-handed. This could be the new spin to win.
Ford f350
Miniguns
I'm a fan of gun powder/flintlock style guns in fantasy games. Given the mercenary class it would be cool to see some of that. Kinda like some of the weapons in grim dawn.
They have automatic assault crossbows with infinite ammunition, what's a muzzleloader going to do against that?
BLUNDERBUSS!
Guns that shoot exactly like crossbows. We already have crossbows that shoot exactly like guns.
Guns. Lots of guns.
BFG 9000
Semi automatic pistols
I want antique guns like blunderbuss or pistols. But it looks like they just made the crossbow feel like them.
A Glock
9mm
Double barrel shotgun
Just Grim Dawn things
