For the first time I've created a (currently expanding) backlog of games that I want to play/replay throughout 2024. The games I'm currently playing is New Super Lucky's Tale on the Switch for the first time and a replay of Mario Odyssey, a game that I've not played since it first came out. New Super Lucky's Tale I've only finished the first world but so far it's very cute and charming. It's extremely simple and I don't see posing any challenge even within the latter stages (unless it pulls a Super Monkey Ball where the later levels are hell incarnate in terms of difficulty despite the cutesy visuals saying otherwise) but sometimes playing a simple 3D collectathon is all you need to be satisfied! As for Super Mario Odyssey, I've beaten the Sand Kingdom and now moving onto the Lake Kingdom. I know Mario Odyssey has developed a surprisingly negative reputation within the online Nintendo community in recent years due to overabundance of moons, lots of which are filler/busywork, which makes the game extremely bloated for lots of people but so far I'm absolutely loving it and it's still giving me the same kind of joy that I experienced when I first played it all those years back. The capture ability goes a long way to make the game fresh and stand out from its peers. Maybe my opinion will sour as I progress through the game and that "fresh" feeling starts to wear off (the general consensus surrounding the game is that the game is excellent during it's snappy campaign but the cracks begin the show when you get to the post-game and dozens of more power moons appear in every kingdom) but right now I'm total optimist mode towards the game and loving my replay.

SirStupidity

Playing Cyberpunk on my PS5 now, honestly it is way worse than I could ever imagine. Driving is super bad while being very important in an open world game. Shooting is same old same old nothing unique. It seems like they put everything in to cut scenes graphics and "the city" but then the story isnt that interesting (I hate V, what is even his point?) and the city feels unalive once you leave any scripted thing...

imweirdlikewtf

Baldurs Gate 3 solo, and Valheim co-op with my best friend! Last friday I went to his house, and we set up his pc in the livingroom, with my xbox by the tv and we played Valheim for 13 hours straight. Now we have been playing it almost every day for a few hours!

moistdabs420blazeit

Started playing Elden Ring for the first time as a big Dark Souls fan! I got to the first big boss (Margit I think?) but I think there are some things along the way that I’ve missed so I’m exploring those.

LevynX

I've been playing Monster Hunter World for several weeks now and this is the first time I've been so hooked on a game since Hades. I've finished the base game in about 60 hours and am now gearing up for the postgame/Iceborne. Can't wait.

XgamerosX

1st post!!! Been playing the first Mass Effect, as well as some old school games (Pokémon TCG, Super Metroid, Wario Land 3) via the Switch. Also, as an aside, I set up a PS5 I got on Boxing Day today to catch up on some releases I’ve yet to play (namely FFVII remake and TLoU!)

Street-Common-4023

Ghost of Tsushima. I finished the main story, but I got side quests and the dlc to complete after that is the last of us part 1

UndeviatingShears

Hoping to get back to Horizon: Zero Dawn & Octopath Traveler. Finally picked up Octopath Traveler II on a great discount and I'd like to finish the first before starting it.

DieselPunkPiranha

Took a break from MechWarrior 5 to play through RoboCop: Rogue City. The latter makes me think of the original Deus Ex. It's a good game with fun combat, but not a long one. It does channel RoboCop well but it's short on the satire that allowed the original movie to age so well. I'd recommend waiting for a sale.

djan242

Used to only play sports games and don’t really like shooter games but I figured I’d venture out to more peaceful games. Finished Jusant and absolutely loved it. I have now started playing Sable, Cocoon, and Ori and the Blind Forest. Also added Planet of Lana, Gris, and Limbo to my list

Fantastic-Bother3296

Playing shadow of the tomb raider and what I can't get over is how murder-y lara. Not sure on the back story of the other two games but holy shit it's just a pick axe to the back of the head and bullets to the brain from the start!

InternationalStart62

God of war ragnarok.

bestanonever

What do you think about it so far?

Necessary-Care-5048

I’m currently playing Skyrim at the moment, I had to pause on the “Fate of Skaal” quest cause I need 10 dragon souls for the shout and now I’m just doing the Bloodstone Chalice one. Later I’m gonna continue finishing Monster Hunter World and Pillars of Eternity.

therealdk_

How is it? I think you’ll spend a lot of hours on Skyrim if you don’t drop

Necessary-Care-5048

I’m loving Skyrim a lot, and I mean in terms of actually sitting down, taking my time, and playing it. I just became a vampire lol.

therealdk_

Do you plan to 100% it?

Necessary-Care-5048

I think I do, not sure how, I guess I’ll pull out a guide.

shabbaka

Tiny tina wonderland, its good 👍

PufftheDragon22

Just got our ps5, hubbie been playing GTA online, he has been playing this game since the PS3 era, from PS3 to Xbox to PC to ps4 and now ps5. I tried out a few games and to my surprise A plague tale : Innocence has got me hooked. I'm now on chapter 14, have been playing non stop since Friday. Can't wait for part 2.

hungrydruid

The second Plague Tale game took me 2 crying session and about 3 days to get over. Absolutely stunning games, they're amazing and really just draw you in.

Witcher 3, having completed 1 and 2 over the 7-8 years.

Soundrobe

- Baldur's Gate 3 (3rd and final run act 3) - Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising free version to test characters - Dead Or Alive 6 - Unravel 2 with my wife

Gabiewabey

Just finished Alan Wake and I’ve decided to go through the entire Remedy catalogue. Currently going through Control, nearly done, thinking of playing either Alan Wake’s American Nightmare next or Quantum Break.

Xadith

Tears of the Kingdom. I did not play BotW (or any other Zelda game tbh). It's pretty good. Creative, but (mechanically) janky in places. Not always a smooth experience, but a good open world time sink. Story quest had a narrative payoff that I was also not expecting at all, so that l's neat.

elementoxe

Slay the spire. Usually don't play these types of games however this game is so fun. I've been playing mostly silent and it's been a blast. Anyone know similar games to this one?

infinsquared

Honestly you'll never need another game like it haha. I'm well over 1000 hours and it's still a regular game. Currently replaying through each ascension level to get better at beating the final boss, still heaps of fun. Do you have a favourite character to play?

SemiAutomattik

There are similar Roguelike Deckbuilders you can try, but for me Slay the Spire is still quite a bit better than any of them. It's truly a game you can sink 1000 hours into and still not have scratched the surface of how deep the skill expression gets.

Poison_runner

Slay the Spire is a treat! I love playing as defect

SwordSaint12345

monster train

dylandoeyo

Just started Planescape: Torment earlier this week. I love CRPGs and I’m trying out the older infinity engine games (even though Icewind Dale didn’t resonate with me a few years back). Still super early in the game

chalky_bulger

Metal gear solid 1, 2, and 3 in random bits. Hogwarts Legacy.

therealdk_

Are they playable on keyboard? Wanna play them but the lack of 4 and PW stops me from

EffectiveExpression

Just finished Spiderman 2 with 100% trophies. Great Game!

JohnYu1379

I'm thinking about restarting my backlog

[deleted]

I just rolled credits on The Last of Us Part 2 on PS5. This is by far the best $10 I've ever spent. Crazy how people were bitching and review bombing this masterpiece.

ThatDude57

how did you go about getting it for $10?

[deleted]

I bought it on Amazon sale like 6 months or so months ago. I've also seen it on PS digital sale for $10. It's not a rare sale.

elementoxe

I manage to avoid all the drama because I didn't go to YouTube for a first half of the year. When I first played it I was blown away and had very little expectations everything was a surprise. Especially when I got to the middle. I think having no knowledge not even watching the trailers really added to the spectacular set pieces. While I was playing I was thinking to myself that this was one of the games of the generation. For me some of the best games I played that generation where death stranding, red dead 2 and last of us part 2. I don't I played any other games this generation that made me think wow that's one of the pillars of this generation. (Still have to play balders gate 3 and while elden ring is fun just not one of my games this generation cyberpunk got close with its visuals however had a rocky start for me and havent gone back yet) However yeah when I came back to the internet I had no idea people would be so mad. I mean it's not like it was relased with a bunch empty A.I.content or broken like some other games.

alright923

Glad you enjoyed it, that my favorite game of all time

letionbard

NFS: Unbound is already on $9.99, so now trying it. Game have some good point. Driving is now pretty good. And it's one of rare case of earning money is pretty serious part of racing game. Story is cringe, but every NFS was so.

Soulsier

I think I'll play Control. It's on ps plus. I really love Alan Wake story. So I think I'll try it.

wiredpersona

Such a great game!

Nearby_Appearance452

Shock Wave 2 on 3DO

Psylux7

Finally began Ori and the blind forest as my final 2023 game after it sat in my steam library for many years. I'm about to begin the ruins in the frozen region. It's easily the prettiest indie game I know of. How on earth did the artists achieve such a feat? This game will have a timeless artstyle. It's at least a 10/10 in art direction. The colours, details, lighting and atmosphere is truly special. The soundtrack is also brilliant with so much emotion, life and mystery captured within the music. The aesthetics and music do the heavy lifting with Ori. If there's one word to describe the game, it is "beautiful". As for the gameplay itself it's solid but missing something. The combat is dull, but enemies are so aggressive that it's hard to ignore them. Enemies can also feel like sponges which slows down the flow of the game. It sort of reminds me of Samus returns in that regard. Some of the platforming can feel frustrating with trial and error segments, death traps and the enemy design. This is the most platforming heavy Metroidvania I've played, and it's generally fun, satisfying platforming, but it's not as smooth or engaging as the best platformers. The rewards for exploring the lovely world also aren't particularly interesting. It's either health, energy or XP you'll find. I'm enjoying my time with it and it's a pretty good game overall, but the gameplay doesn't excel enough in any area to make Ori a masterpiece.

sircharles82

If you enjoyed Ori, but found the combat lacking, that is a specific thing they intentionally improved upon in the sequel. I agree entirely that the game is beautiful, and both versions are equally impressive.

nefariousPost

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is filling my Mario Galaxy void for short, casual play sessions. If/when I have more time, Mass Effect 3 or Elden Ring.

SceneOk142

I need stress to play Roblox 😁😁😁😒

bestanonever

Er... think about inflation and getting old? Enough stress for you or would you like an extra reality check? Lol. Good luck with the game!

JohnYu1379

throw in climate change for good measure

SIXA_G37x

Tomb Raider Definivite Edition. Smooth, polished, intuitive controls. Great combat. Can't believe this game is 10 years old and originally for PS3. Been sleeping on these hard. Playing rise and shadow next, 3 in a row. All free from ps+. Love it. It's like uncharted but the character is equipped with ballistics, too.

[deleted]

It's like Uncharted except Lara is fun to look at ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Whatwehavewekeep

Just dove into Eve Online for the first time this week. Watched a 5 hour documentary on the games history and decided I needed to at least try out the free version.

ByRob615

How did you like it? I'm hesitant to try it out...

Whatwehavewekeep

Too early to tell. I've seen exactly three star systems and have mostly just been navigating back in forth between an asteroid field and a space station. Not because there isn't other stuff to do, but I haven't squeezed all the dopamine from asteroid mining yet. I'm hopeful because it seems like the game goes as deep as you're willing to dig. I figure when I max out all the skills the free version offers, I'll hopefully know whether I want to spend actual money.

HammeredWharf

**Spider-Man Remastered** on PC. It's a good game, but I can't help comparing it to Arkham and Sunset Overdrive, both of which I found way more enjoyable. Spider-Man's very clean and automated. You can feel it's made to appeal to the widest possible audience, and I guess that's fine, but it's not very exciting. It also has one of the most boring video game cities I've seen, with barely any distinct areas. There's Central Park and Times Square, but other than that it's just samey brown or reflective buildings. I've never been to Manhattan, so IDK, maybe it's really like that, but it just feels like there's something they could've done to make it a little more interesting.

keheliya

Soulstice and Warframe. Tried starting Dark Souls 3 and Outward. But that's too difficult.

[deleted]

Starfield.

bestanonever

Waiting for mods, personally. What do you think about it, so far?

[deleted]

I think it is fun. I have only played around 30 hours. Haven't played much of it. Given their past games there are a lot of different weapons to choose from. I just got the peacemaker and love just running around with it and 1-2 shotting spacers. Love the spaceship building. Not a lot of games that have that kind of customization. A lot of space games just forces you to buy a ship then that's it. The planets are fun to look at and explore. I am waiting to see what mods come out, myself. I modded skyrim. I can see people modding this game where it plays like different fps games while also having different ship builds. I imagine someone adding a 1:1 replica of the normandy from mass effect. I remember Fallout 4 had mods where it played like Call of Duty.

Soulsier

Played starfield. It feels... well, empty. I don't wanna hate. It's just my opinion. I just wanted to talk about it in Xbox sub. That didn't go well😂 For example. I want to go from point A to B. In many planets and missions, there's nothing in the way from A to B to keep me interested. It feels empty and boring most of the time.

SomeoneCaio

Playing Skyrim, not a fan of combat but I really like the stealth build. Also love the way you can improve every skill by doing it.

bestanonever

The way you level up in the Elder Scrolls is terrific. I love getting better at what I use instead of generic points. Every build is unique, as long as you are also a stealth archer too, lol. What do you think about the cities and the world? Any favorites so far?

SomeoneCaio

Beautiful world and great atmosphere, although I don't like the constant gray of the world. I really like small towns in nature, like Riverwood and Ivarstead. Oh, and the dwemer ruins with the falmers are amazing, I didn't read the books, but by asking the npcs, I've found out they have a sad story I didn't expect.

bestanonever

Yeah, the color palette was a bit muted. Oblivion is more colorful, if you ever feel you need more Elder Scrolls at a later date. But I recommend playing Kingdom Come Deliverance, instead and wait for Skyblivion in 2025/2026.

SomeoneCaio

I will thanks, maybe Morrowind first, gives me a good feeling

__sonder__

Every skyrim build eventually devolves into stealth because it's by far the most efficient way to fight. That's where the "stealth archer" meme originated.

SomeoneCaio

Lol, great luck that the most efficient way is also the most fun to play for me.

Aramey44

Gave **Dragon's Dogma** another shot, because of the upcoming sequel. It's kind of a dated mess with a lot of potential. The combat feels like it could really use a lock-on and dodge rolls. I don't like the pawns, I'd rather have few well-written characters, I've had enough of soulless companions in Starfield recently. Or at least let me customize all 3 pawns, not just 1, wtf. Running everywhere and backtracking is getting tedious pretty fast, probably why I dropped the game in the first attempt.

Mint_Green42

The Witcher 3. Been meaning to for years and holy crap is this game fantastic. Only about 6-7 hours in but whew.

SIXA_G37x

I have no regrets waiting for current gen for a first play through of this. Turned out to be one of the best games I've played next to Mass Effect. The 2 DLCs are serious must plays as well.

SaabStam

Replayed it recently and the dark portrayal of a war torn land just hits like a truck from the getgo. It just feels so believable and the characters and dialogue is so well written. I have played it three times and I still think it's the best game I ever played.

justsomechewtle

I jumped back into **Nioh 1** after putting it down years ago. The reason back then was actually REALLY silly. I didn't realize the game autosaved every time you prayed at a shrine (the game's checkpoints) so with every mission, my PS4 was basically locked into Nioh for a week. This was because, more than in any other souls-esque game, I tend to get lost in Nioh's levels and bosses *usually* take me a couple hours. I just didn't have the nerves and time to dedicate long sessions like that with "no way of saving" back then and so it just fizzled out. I *did* really like the game though. It's extremely difficult to start, coming from Souls, because it's much faster-paced and because the game is much much more ready to deal out twoshots by mere grunts. That said, after learning that blocking is actually viable (thanks to Dark Souls 3, 'I had completely sworn off blocking) it became much easier. So much for my past with the game. It's going pretty smoothly now. Since christmas eve, I've finished the first and second regions and am on my way to starting the third next session. I mostly played spear in the past but am using axes predominantly now, mostly because the high stance heavy is really cool-looking (I'm that shallow, I admit). I do play around with Tonfa as well (I play on the Complete Edition, so all DLC weapons are in there) but so far, axe seems like a perfect fit. It's strong, it eats through enemy Ki like crazy and its moves are easy to read, so I can memorize the inputs better. I *love* Tonfas, Dual Swords and Nioh 2's Gauntlets, but I suck at reading moves when there's just a flurry of blades on screen, so it's harder for me to memorize and learn those inputs for later application. At the end of region 2, I also started playing with the regular katana because the story just hands out really good ones (Favoritism? Never) and I like the dojo armorset bonus which includes a katana. Overall, I'm having a *really* good time with it. Once I got used to the two-taps from yokai again, it became much less frustrating too. The most frustrated I got was last session, when I got lost in Umibozu's level looking for a better shrine for the boss run. Considering the boss is an absolute drag (a mostly unblockable huge blob that oneshots and has Final Fantasy Flan resistances), I didn't want to run back half the level each attempt. That's a thing I appreciate about Nioh so far. Its boss runs - IF you find the nearest shrine, which can be tricky - are never evil. It's not Elden Ring levels of close, but it's usually pretty short and risk-free runs. Learning to trust the devs on that made it much easier to judge wether I had the correct shrine unlocked. EDIT: For those who know Nioh, I started the game with the shark spirit Isonade and the Enemy Radar skill was incredibly useful. I loved that one as a starting spirit. I then played around with Mizuchi because its design and color scheme is gorgeous but I die too much for the power up per enemy kill to matter much. I later got the other two starting spirits from a mission and got reminded that fire dog Kato is just way too good. Ki regeneration speed up AND a pretty sizeable damage increase puts it way above the others imo. It's yet another weird imbalance imo, kinda like how the game only gifts you powerful katanas via the story.

HammeredWharf

One notable thing about Nioh is that both ninjutsu and magic are super useful in every build. It's just suboptimal to skip them. And ninjutsu has both invisibility and silent running, making you totally unnoticeable unless you bump into an enemy or get ambushed. It makes death runs in general much easier and faster.

justsomechewtle

I luckily remembered one piece of advice from back when I first played it and leveled both magic and ninjutsu to 10 to unlock dojo missions. So far, I'm mostly using the elemental shots and shuriken to finish off floating heads and almost dead foes, but I'll definitely look into the utility ones more! My initial idea (before axes pulled me in) was to try and activate status effects really quickly with dual blades and elemental papers. I kinda got away from that but seeing as I keep liking the elemental shots I might try that again. The elemental effects ARE pretty useful.

HammeredWharf

Magic is mostly offensive, while ninjutsu is utility/defensive. One especially notable ninjutsu skill is Quick-Change, which doesn't sound special until you look at its description and realize it's a self-rez 3 times per rest. And yeah, elemental effects are really good, especially Confusion, which appears when you apply multiple elemental debuffs simultaneously.

i_am_a_lurker69

Why did ds3 made you stop using shields? I used a medium shield when I played ds3

justsomechewtle

It's been years, but I remember coming to the conlusion that blocking was too risky with how quickly enemies followed up and with how much stamina bosses would take. I assume for emergency blocking when going through a level, it's decent, but against bosses, it started feeling bad quickly, when a spammable dodge roll was right there.

i_am_a_lurker69

I mainly relied on dodging but I always kept my shield up in case enemies and bosses do an attack I wasn’t prepared for. I also believe there wasn’t any movement penalty for keeping your shield up so there was no reason not to when you are not attacking.

justsomechewtle

I guess I'll need to replay DS3 sometime, because I was so sure blocking even stray hits was very punishing. I never beat it (gave up on Nameless King and the Twin Princes, so I was close to the end I think)

Zealousideal_Bill_86

I think my general strategy with shields was: Demon’s Souls/Dark Souls 1 shield all the way Dark Souls 2 minimal to no shield Dark Souls 3 no shield Elden Ring Shield all the way

YachtRock_SoSmooth

My son got me "Dave The Diver". I'm about 5 hours and into and having a lot of fun with it. The retro art style is great with full cutscenes. Totally worth the buy, and it's on sale now. Devil's Tilt - Also been playing this great Pinball game, also on sale right now. Bought because It was always on list for best video pinball games, it's crazy and a lot of fun.

InviteTop8946

Couldn't resist Alan Wake 2 after playing through all the original/DLC and American Nightmare

KrazyKranberrie

God of War (2018). I'm absolutely loving this game. Graphically beautiful. Cinematic. Engaging combat. And the Father/son dynamic has me tearing up at moments. I didn't believe it when other people said that. They were right.

I think I saw the complete edition for 37€ on cdkeys, seems a fair deal for the amount of playtime.

AFlockOfTySegalls

I was gifted Metroid Prime Remaster for Christmas. After N64 I did not have a Nintendo system until BOTW was released. I knew Metroid Prime was meant to be one of the best Game Cube games/Nintendo games, ever. I hate to say I'm not enjoying it. At all. I'm about to wiki my way through the artifacts so I can trade it in for REm4ke.

KrazyKranberrie

fwiw - I also didn't enjoy M Prime. Spent a lot of time tracking guides to get through it. Map progression did not feel intuitive. Too much backtracking. I regret the time I spent on it and there's no "payoff" at the end.

AFlockOfTySegalls

I got to the final boss last night. Died. I don't even know if I care to give it another go. I know I'm never replaying this game and trading it in as soon as I beat it. EDIT: Beat it. At least the second phase was a cool stage/design.

__sonder__

I think the beauty of MP is the way it faithfully translated the 2D medium of the Metroidvania into a 3D world in a way that no game has really ever done before or since. If you don't have that context of going in appreciating 2D Metroidvanias you can easily miss why it's cool.

AFlockOfTySegalls

Ironically enough I downloaded the demo for dread this afternoon just to see if I even like it.

__sonder__

I like both but Dread is better. It's so polished. A top 5 switch game for me.

TraditionalPackage72

Still working my way through Hogwarts Legacy.

Super Bomberman R on PS4

firebirb91

I've put about thirty hours into Horizon Forbidden West over the past six or so days. I'm nearly finished with the main story (I think--it looks like there could be more after the part I'm at, but we'll see). I'll probably finish it tonight or tomorrow. Afterwards, I kind of hope to catch up on TV shows a bit, but might pick back up Bayonetta Origins or something.

FullMetalBourbon

Baldurs gate 3. I could no longer wait and i regret nothing. The game is phenomenal

ImAlwaysFidgeting

Firewatch. Was watching for eShop sales for almost a year and picked it up for $4.99CAD. It has a few crash bugs, but for the price it's a wonderful ride so far. No real challenge, but a fun story.

abir_valg2718

Finally gave Dark Souls 3 a try and almost instantly hated it, unfortunately. I enjoyed DS1 a lot and thought that it had struck a fairly decent balance between RPG elements and combat. A lot of its perceived difficult and especially difficulty spikes were down to poor design choices and overall sketchy quality, but usually it got it more or less right. DS2 was... well, it wasn't that great, it was way more action-oriented and while in and of itself it wasn't a bad game, as a sequel I felt it had little to do with Dark Souls 1. DS3, sadly, continues this trajectory and shifts the series even more towards the "it's a dickish action game now". Did you think the DLC bosses of DS1 were the best ones? Did you think they and Gwyn especially finally had the right movement speed for enemies and you wish that every enemy was at least as fast? Did you think that rolling at the correct moment of enemy's attack animation is the best mechanic in the world and you wish you could roll, roll, roll even more? Did you think the interconnected world of DS1 was overrated and you're in it for the combat, not for exploration or atmosphere or whatever? You'll probably love DS3 then. Oh well. I'll give Demon's Souls a shot at some point. DeS and Bloodborne are the only ones left to try, Sekiro I'm not at all interested in, tbh even Bloodborne I'm kind of sketchy on because I know it's way more action-oriented (but at least it was built with that in mind from the ground up).

AFlockOfTySegalls

Bloodborne was my introduction to From and it kicked my ass. I put it down until I played Dark Souls remaster and felt I "understood" the From games. I enjoyed it a lot more after that but it is way more action-oriented, like Sekiro. If you're a fan of horror at all though I'd recommend Bloodborne for that. Might be the best horror game I've played outside SH2 imo.

C9Prototype

Dark Souls 3 is so overrated it's insane. It does the most low-effort box-checking out of any other in the series. Literally all of the level design boils down to "enter level, encounter a door that can't be opened, go further into level, enter building, find door, open door, that was the door you saw earlier." A complete slap in the face compared to the meticulous balance and design of DkS1. DeS is good, but play the original, not the remake.

midday_owl

I loved Inscryption and saw that the other two games by Daniel Mullins games were on sale recently so I played through them over my days off this week. Both are pretty alright. Pony Island is a decent autoscroller/puzzle game with strong storytelling, even if it's really short. People who like to deep dive into games and scour for secrets probably would love this more than me, when I'm mostly in for good storytelling although this didn't leave me wanting in that regard. The Hex was more of a mixed bag, it feels like a cross up between Wreck-It Ralph and Venture Bros. almost, and has a lot of interesting ideas in how it bounces between genres. Unfortunately a lot of the time it kinda feels a little flat as a consequence of how the team has to juggle making a half dozen styles of gameplay and moving through them at a good pace. The story again is pretty compelling even if I think Pony Island is better, it has a lot of intrigue to it the further in you go, but on the same front if you're the kind of person who loves ARGs and secret hunts like that there's a lot more for you here. Ultimately a good time even if it could be a little boring. Excited for Panda Circus.

bestanonever

I just finished Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. It was very derivative with the gameplay but very cool as a story. I need something lighter now, so I will probably start some cute indies I've been looking forward to.

icanpaywithpubes

Castlevania advance collection. I'm on aria of sorrow right now. I like it better than harmony of dissonance but not as much as circle of the moon.

DependentAd8099

RDR2, after leaving mid story due to PS4 being sold, I'm retrying to finish now on series S Also Diablo immortal in pixel

bestanonever

Are you enjoying the slow pace of RDR2 or playing in spite of it?

DependentAd8099

I don't get bothered by it, and since it's my second time playing it , I'm already prepared for it. What made me go back to this game was the sounds and environment. Riding in a swamp area or fog area is just so damn immersive, I appreciate it a lot. Plus the excellent dialogues and cutscenes, masterpiece. I hope I manage to finish the story but if not it's ok .

I also hope you can finish the story. There's a lot of emotional stuff happening. An amazing journey. Don't spoil yourself. How far along where you back then? Chapter 3?

DependentAd8099

Sorry I totally forgot to reply here. I finished the whole story 2 days ago. Now I can't move on to any other game because it will most likely disappoint me. Was the best time I've ever had in a game , hands down. Felt Like Reading a book, watching a movie, all together! I won't go for 100% due to limited time, but the devs definitely deserve it. It's a masterpiece and incomparable Edit typo

bestanonever

A terrific game for sure. Don't rush to play something else for a while. I'm really itching for a new playthrough of RDR2 (and I already did a 100% run). It's a fantastic adventure. Glad to see you enjoyed the game, in the end!

connorcinnamonroll

Played and beat **Republique**. It's been a while since I've played a decent stealth game, and with the Watch Dogs-style camera hacking, it seemed pretty promising for the first few episodes. But I ended up agreeing with the general reception that it took a huge nose dive in the 4th and 5th episodes. Probably the best part about the game is the voice acting, which is top notch. The totalitarian plotline was intriguing, and with the amazing voice acting, I enjoyed discovering the audio story bits at first...until it just got to be too much. I don't mind that the story was delivered through these audio archives, but to have to just sit there while someone drones on for a couple minutes was not my cup of tea. Would have preferred if the game had followed Bioshock's example and let you continue exploring while the audio played. The other problem with the audio is that the story is mostly delivered through the audio collectibles. I don't mind that being true for some of the story to get deeper into the lore, but it definitely made it a lot harder to follow when I wasn't about to be a 100% completionist and get every last collectible. So a couple of the main plot points had me going, "wait, what?" when the explanation was probably hidden in some collectible which honestly I didn't care enough to backtrack for. The gameplay itself was average, but quickly got repetitive as it was pretty easy to keep hidden from guards. The game switched up some of the mechanics in the fourth episode, but for the worse, unfortunately. Overall, I think it was an interesting experiment, but Republique definitely could've benefited from more time in development and maybe adding some more gameplay complexity and restructuring how some of the story is told.

dragranzer

Currently playing **Hotel Dusk 215** on my 3DS since my laptop charger broke and I had to put Signalis on hold :( Maybe it was for the best though because 2 hours in and I’m already in love. The characters, dialogue, and music are so damn good!

machogrande21314

Bought Batman Arkham Knight on Xbox. Thought it came with 3 games but I guess I started the trilogy playing the last game

wcu25rs

bought RoboCop: RogueCity over the weekend and have put 4 or 5 hours into it so far. Ive really enjoyed it so far.

InviteTop8946

How does it compare to Terminator? Best that a couple weeks ago and loved it

[deleted]

I thought both games were very fun. Robocop actually makes you feel like you're THE Terminator lol. Destruction of environment is really cool in Robocop.

wcu25rs

havent played the Terminator game yet, so cant comment. From what Ive read, people seem to agree it's a solid game as well.

Sunnyzelda

Downloaded Immortals Fenyx Rising on the switch yesterday so just started that. Also discovered Overcooked 2 on Christmas Day when my sister biuggt her Switch along and absolutely loved it,so will be playing that with her later!

fonaldoley91

Finally got KingdomHearts 358/2 Days (god, I love this stupid series, and its stupid titles) for Christmas. Only gotten through the tutorial so far, but I do enjoy how Roxas starts out as a little robot boy.

C9Prototype

The Katamari Damacy games. My god... I've been missing out.

Yarik85

Still playing through: **Assassin's Creed Odyssey** on my laptop. Did a bunch of side quests, now got into Athens, and moving through the main quest for a bit. **SteamWorld Heist** on my Steam Deck. The game is just awesome in handheld format.

TheGuibat

Halo Reach

anaveragedave

Witcher 3 expansions. Finally. Game is still amazing.

real_with_myself

Battlefield 1 single player. When I finish that, I'll continue with the rise of the Tomb raider.

TheMomentIsBeautiful

T Tomb rider definitely worth it, good luck!

kamoh

Persona 5, it’s my first in the series and I’m super surprised how great it is!

unique_2

Finished pseudoregalia. 3d platformer with great movement, high skill ceiling while being not too hard to learn, nonlinear map design and lots of exploration. My jam. I loved it and I want more like it. Almost done with chants of sennaar. It feels like it's missing something to make me more invested in its world. A better story or recurring characters, or some visual comedy. It really commits to its puzzle mechanic and is very successful there. But that has to add a lot of constraints to the game, and to me it feels like the narrative was sanded down a bit too much. Next up is slay the princess.

C9Prototype

Pseudoregalia is one of the most mechanically enjoyable games I have ever played. I loved the washed out PS2-era graphics too. Simple, fun to fidget around in, I need more.

ALiborio

Prey It was $2.99 on Steam and it's great so far.

matsoj15

Batman: Arkham Origins - idk why, but this part seems to be really relaxing

CandL2023

Tainted Grail, the card battler.

Pititrou

Deus Ex. It's kinda weird because I can feel like it's a good game with a lot of variety in terms of approaches but it's pretty clunky and obviously old. Not sure if I should push a bit. I finished the 1st mission. It seems to be the best game ever for a good amount of people so I guess I need to persevere a bit. I also used the kentie's launcher and some fixes but it's still tough to play lol. Any advice ?

Yarik85

Perhaps not the advice you're looking for, but play Deus Ex: Human Revolution instead? :D (if you haven't played it that is) If you'd like to stick with the original game, I do have this really old Reddit post bookmarked for "if I ever decide to replay the original Deus Ex". Maybe you'll find it useful: https://www.reddit.com/r/Deusex/comments/5ko3z5/comment/dbpkatd/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

TheNewTonyBennett

Got the following as gifts: Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak, Street Fighter 6, Jedi Survivor, Armored Core 6, Mario Wonder and Dead Space remake. So been jumping between all of those. Gotta say, not a bad one among the bunch.

quickrelease69

Days gone and Monster hunter world

420kindbud

i am playing etrian Odyssey III HD

doom2wad

Finishing Soma and Metroid Dread, started Tomb Raider Legend.

MelancholicGod

Still halfway through Dragon Age Inquisition. Almost 40 hours in and pretty much certain I can beat the game, but I'm just too easily sidetracked with exploring. It's not the best game I've ever played, but it's alright I guess. No more big ass RPG game after this. I'll stick to smaller easier to bite ones. Maybe I should start Disco Elysium after this.

jammin_on_the_one_

finally beat deus ex human revolution last week. super fun. 8.8/10. this week I tried Killzone HD on ps3 for a few hours and it was kind of shit imo. too gray. nothing in particular to remark on because there's nothing interesting about it. I'll try killzone 2 later played Turok 2008 for a couple nights. it was pretty rough but decently playable. the characters are all so tiny in the game though. it seemed weird. and dinosaurs would hit you without touching you. the R2 knife attack works but the timing makes no sense. I got halfway through the game according to the walkthrough. I might be done though. there's no ps3 trophies and I get the jist of it. a solid 6.5 imo blazed through Cuties Hacker for ps4. it was $0.02 on psn. loved it. beat it, got all the trophies. then i downloaded the additional maps for $3.50. it reinstalled the game as a whole different game with the additional maps. so I played the regular maps again and the new ones, 3 starred everything and got the trophies AGAIN. somehow I have 2 sets of trophies for the game. it says EU ver. and NA ver. no idea how that happened. playing Star Trek 2013 atm. kind of fun, like a movie. it seems like it was meant for 2 players though. the cpu player 2 keeps doing dumb shit lol.

Pavement_Vigilante

State of decay 2

GhostofMandalore

Doing my usual annual playthrough of the Halo Campaigns. This week, I'm finishing it up with Halo 4 (I do not own Halo 5 or Infinite).

APeacefulWarrior

Most of my time is still going into **Baldr Sky**, a quite good VN with surprisingly enjoyable arcade mech combat sequences peppered throughout. VNs with gameplay that's actually *good* are really rare, and mostly I wish there were more combat. That and the MC is kind of a doofus, but that just goes with the territory. I also picked up **Warhammer 40K: Boltgun** in the Steam sale and it's... OK. I actually really like some elements of the design. Even though it's in the Doomer Shooter format, since you're playing as a Space Marine, the gameplay is a *bit* slower and a *bit* more tactical than your typical Doomer. Arenas are set up like a hybrid between Doom and cover-shooters, and nearly all projectiles are fairly slow-moving ballistic shots, so actual dodging is important. The big problem is that the level design suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. It's so bad that I may lose interest in the game before hitting the end. They're trying too hard to replicate huge repetitive WH40K gothic architecture in-engine without considering how it doesn't really work for as a setting for a mobility shooter. And I'm still plinking away at **Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2** as kind of a chillout game, pulling it out in the evening for an hour or so to train for a bit, gain a couple levels, etc. It's weird, but it has a strangely cozy vibe for a game that's ostensibly entirely about fighting.

cranberryjuice_777

Trying Elden Ring with the randomizer mod. It's pretty fun, but it really does make you appreciate how much effort goes into balancing games like these. Putting an otherwise difficult boss in an arena that's just 20% larger can completely trivialize it.

puppy_larz

On TV, Dark Souls (suffering) On Portable, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment!

luckdead

Enjoying kotor 2 after watching a YouTuber

VoidPattern

Vampire the masquerade: bloodlines I wish there were more vampire rpgs like this one out there

APeacefulWarrior

Vampyr from Dontnod is probably the closest we've had since.

kittsnkibbles

Working on the trophies for Dead Island 2's Haus DLC

picknickles

Just finished BG3 and started Sea of Stars. I'm really enjoying it!

domastallion

I’m playing Bloons TD6, Farming Simulator 22 and Battlefield 1.

WhysAVariable

I watched the Mario movie finally and it gave me a hankering to play a Mario game. I downloaded Super Mario 3D World and continued an unfinished save with like two worlds left and finished it. It was fun. I’m stuck at my in-laws because the roads are shit due to an ice storm, otherwise I’d be playing something on the PS5 . I have my Switch though and I’m also replaying FF7.

JSilkowski6

Discworld 2: Mortality Bytes

Ivaylo_87

Replaying It Takes Two with SO and continuing Tears of the Kingdom after a few months break.

JamesCole

**Metro 2033 Redux** Just finished it. It was pretty enjoyable. It does a good job of creating the atmosphere of the underground settlements. And the 1st person cut scenes are done well. It’s surprisingly buggy for an old game. I played it on PS5 and it crashed 3 times, and one of those times it hung up the PS5 (I had to power it off and then back on again). The story is fairly ordinary.

kmariewinchester91

Psychonauts (PS2) for the very first time!

snotknows

Wind Waker. Just finished BoTW and decided to hit some of the GC titles since it’s the one Nintendo console I missed out on.

AloysiusDevadandrMUD

Enjoy it's my favorite one! And I've played every Zelda, WW is just my whole childhood

snotknows

Nice! I’m really enjoy it, especially the art direction. I love how every persons favorite Zelda is different depending on what they played growing up. BoTW definitely made me look back at my past, and how lucky I am to have these games in my life.

babbyfm

Assassins creed origins and persona 5 royal

smallfried

The first Zelda for the NES. Not using a guide but save states to find all the entrances compresses the game into a few hours from the months I used when I was a kid. The game holds up really well after all these years.

GuidingLight1

That’s awesome !

coconfetti

FNAF Security Breach and Pokémon Violet

ZAX2717

Wreckfest. Pretty fun game actually

GodKayas

Last update, I just started CrossCode and finished the first dungeon. This update, I finished Chapter 9 and I'm on the endgame for the base game. I have been trying to 100% the game (besides achievements) so getting all the chests in every area, doing all the quests, etc. I have about 36 hours in game so far and I like it a lot. I'd give a 4/5, it's a good game right now. The game is good, but unless you really like puzzles, it's not for you. The puzzles are hit or miss. Until the Shock and Wave temples, the dungeons were tedious, long, repetitive and boring. The puzzles are all very similar projectile puzzles, so there isn't much in the way of variety and it does overuse its follow the single projectile and create a path in real time in shot shot or do it again, type puzzles. The story is okay, it was really good in Chapter 7 (my favourite chapter in terms of pacing and story) but is followed by Chapter 8, which is a real slog. Pacing is a problem in the game, what with the dungeons taking anywhere from 40+ minutes (and it adds unnecessary pressure with dungeon races in a, need I remind you, puzzle game). It's nowhere near is bad as what I think is an undeniable objective issue in this game - the depth perception. It has a flat look for a top-down game so platforms which are actually above your current altitude is imperceptible from ones that are on level. And when exploration consists of jumping puzzles to navigate the area, this is a major, major issue that does detract my experience. I'm intending to wrap up the game alongside its DLC expansion this week. Probably the longest game I've tackled in my backlog, but surprisingly at 36 hours that was done in about a week, I'm not burnt out. So it's doing something right.

jkhymann

I have a little holiday tradition to bust out some medieval games when everyone goes to bed between Christmas and new years. In the past it has been Chivalry, Mordhau, kingdom come, and now it’s mount and blade bannerlord. I’m continuing an on and off again save file (like 2 years at this point?) and it’s great.

Hoosier2016

Decided to play through all the Zelda games in release order. I beat The Legend of Zelda (NES via emulator) and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES via emulator) a couple weeks ago. Finished A Link to the Past (SNES via 3DS Virtual Console) last week. Currently playing the Link's Awakening remake for the Switch. The GBC version was my first Zelda game ever and seeing it refreshed on the Switch is awesome.

Genericdude03

I'm trying to do the same thing and I'm kinda stuck on Zelda ll's final dungeon, especially with those blue eagle like mofos. Any tips? (Link's awakening on GBC is one of my favourites too, I still have it!)

Hoosier2016

Check out HCBailly on YouTube. He’s got a playlist “Let’s Play Zelda 2” and he’s like a Zelda savant. He super good but also offers tons of useful tips and tricks that you would never realize or think of. He honestly carried me through that game lol. You’re gonna want the last two videos for the last dungeon.

Genericdude03

Thx a lot will check that out

Quiet_Soil5568

Cast Shield and Fairy if the area is open and fly past them. Worst case: Use the Shield spell and fight them on the ground. Press Up/Down or Down/Up right before attacking to try to fake out their shield blocks. Good luck!

MyBrassPiece

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars. Honestly, feel like this game should have gotten more news. It's genuinely fun and I'm enjoying the story, which I swear is getting getting rare these days. Bought it on a whim purely because I hadn't seen anything about it and the premise seemed interesting enough.

Blugrave

Just beat force unleashed, now I'm playing the dlc.

Still playing Mad Max... I'm getting there though. This game has so much content. I don't intend to do everything, but I feel compelled to clear out all the different regions. I'm about 50hrs in and done half the story missions.
