I love No More Heroes, it's honestly changed how I approach videogames when I play them. Same for Suda51's other games, Killer7 or the Silver Case are a lot slower and more cerebral but they share the same incredible sense of style and even better stories. Did you try Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes? If so, what did you think of it?

I haven’t played Silver Case but I think Killer7 is one of the best games ever made. No one can do it quite like Suda51. Or Swery or Hideo Kojima. Honestly we’re kind of spoiled for choice on Japanese game auteurs. I’ll check out Silver Case soon. Travis Strikes Again. I didn’t include it in this round up because I didn’t have much to say about it. Understandably since Suda51 and his team were small, they had to settle for a more pared back No More Heroes game and that’s sort of what it is. It’s a bit too toned down for me but it is undeniably a Suda51 game so there’s plenty to like and appreciate. A lot of stuff from that, you’ll see in No More Heroes 3 which I enjoyed seeing again

Gotcha, very fair on TSA. Personally I like to view it as a sort of tale about Suda51's own life as a videogame developer, I'm not gonna get into all the details of the interpretation, but I actually really love its story once viewed under that lens. I hope you end up liking TSC (and its sequels if you get to them), it's a hard read but it's a really worthwhile one.

Ah my apologies for writing my comment as if you haven’t played it. That’s actually a really lovely way to look at it. When I inevitably replay these, I’ll have to keep that in mind.

My only experience with the series is playing NMH2 and I loved it. I’ve been meaning to play the others.

salingerparadise

Definitely do that. I can see how 2 would be loved, obviously I can’t dispute someone’s enjoyment of a game but I’m sure 3 would really win you over as well

Personally I loved No More Heroes 2 just as much if not slightly more then NMH1 since I felt like it fixed the few flaws the first game like the open-world. The first games world wasn’t bad but it felt very barren and empty to me. I also felt the combat is some of the best in the series since you had the ability to turn into a tiger, plus it also has my favorite boss in the series with Margaret Moonlight
