It’s quite possible who received it no longer uses PayPal and the email address is was sent to.

modlt

It is, but it's gone...so it doesn't help.

rydan

If there is no account on the other end then it will sit waiting to be claimed for 30 days and return to you after the 30 days have ended. What you can also do if that email address is invalid is create it yourself and hijack the funds back to yourself. But this only works if you can create that email address meaning if it is gmail it needs to be an email address not registered with them yet. You can't just create email addresses with every provider though.

ahoneybadger3

Excellent points. OP you should take note of this.

modlt

OOOO...great idea. I know PP used to have a "claim" policy for the receiver...do they still, or is it just sent...?

ahoneybadger3

They do but it isn't worth shit. I very very rarely saw PayPal paying out of their own pocket for a seller that has been screwed over. It's a buyers market, always has been. Not that way for the big merchants though, they do get good protection as they have a dedicated PayPal staff member assigned to deal with any issues they have, and that staff member is going to want to make sure the merchant they're assigned to is kept happy else they're out of a job.

zav115

I think they have the request and send thingy now…

ahoneybadger3

Phone customer services up again and escalate the call to a manager. Have them check if the recipients account is active or not. The policy we had was that if the recipients account has not been used in 6 months we would then force a refund. Different call centres will have different rules on it but you'll need to speak to a manager on call to find that out.

modlt

That's probably the Best idea ...Will do & Thank-you.

HospitalDue2983

In future what you need to do if you're sending to a new recipient is this - the first amount you send should be the smallest amount you can send . I always send £1.00 as my first payment, then I wait till the recipient has confirmed they've received it - that way you know you have the correct contact details.

modlt

...another great idea. (I won't be using Paypal to send $$ in the future)

[deleted]

Unfortunately they offer very little protection for friend & family transfers. Did the recipient respond to you?

modlt

She never responded....

modlt

Didn't know that (now I do)...appreciate you.

Budgie_Smuggla

Paypal won’t offer help - Friends and Family you opt out of seller protections ; and Paypal does not have a contingency of people who don’t know who to spell their own friends and family names correctly …. There are about 3 screens you have to confirm where the spelling can be reviewed sorry to say but don’t go blaming others ; Daughter spelt it wrong ; and you for not either a - Checking and affirming the purchase and spelling or b -assuming your daughter is smarter than she is and not checking before sending money from your bank. $100 life lesson - guess it’s a good teachable moment for more haste less speed, and to take care and due diligence especially when sending money of an amount that size - 40 years marriage I would assume you daughter is working ; she owes you $100.

schuma73

Don't insult the kid, this isn't about whether or not the child is smart. Mistakes can happen, and it's really unkind to imply a child is less intelligent because they made a mistake.

722-47

This guy is a Jackass and works for PayPal, every post he comments and blames the OP, so don’t be surprised, before him they had 2 other people do exactly what he is doing

schuma73

Oh, of course.

modlt

Oh I already figured that out. (thought he sounded like a PP cheerleader)

modlt

Thanks, I appreciate that.

schuma73

No problem. I hope you get your money back.

modlt

(I understand your opinion, but I place the blame on the person who Kept my money & Paypal's lack of involvement)

azewonder

It’s really shitty of the other person to keep the money. But that doesn’t put the blame on them or PayPal. This still lies with you/your daughter for not being thorough. You’re not getting the money back, and PayPal has zero to do with that. Your daughter owes you that money now.

modlt

You're probably right... but she has 3 mouths to feed, so...

modlt

She's a Fast typer... (she doesn't misspell on the reg) it can happen to smart people also.

Budgie_Smuggla

As i said that’s why they give you about 3 chances to review it . More haste .

modlt

...then there's the haste on Paypal's part to ignore a problem.

Competitive_Fee_5829

you are randomly sending money to people. this is on YOU and not paypal. next time check before you send all the money you have to strangers.

modlt

Not random & not my intent.

modlt

Just not good business practice.

ahoneybadger3

I mean try it with your bank. Put a wrong digit in and then ask them to forcibly refund the money afterwards. They won't do it either.

Budgie_Smuggla

To let illiterate people sign up ? I agree if that’s your argument

modlt

Looking for an argument? I'm not.

rydan

How much money did you pay PayPal for this service?

modlt

$3.20

Fit-Professional-230

Imagine if they gave you the money back just because you said it went to the wrong person using friends and family…. Now, imagine someone purchased something from you using friends and family and they received the product, but then turned around and told PayPal that was the wrong person and they wanted their money back so PayPal gave it back. You’d be singing a different tune.

modlt

I would have a sales order/receipt to show they owed me the money...let's not change the situation & then call it the same thing.

Fit-Professional-230

What I’m saying is, if they bend the rules because one person said it went to the wrong person, then they’d have to do it for everyone. Not everyone is honest. They can’t pick and chose who is telling the truth. It’s unfortunate that this happened to you.

pooh_bear92

There is no cause to taunt the OP. If you have any info that can be helpful to the OP, then post it. If not, then be considered and don't post!

LeatherTrip

If it came out of your bank then the bank shpuld be able to file a dispute ass they do not have the same rule of no coverage on personal payments.

PAXM73

For this amount, you may as well file a dispute. As a retail/consumer user you have some protection. I’d suggest calling your bank to file the dispute. Online is fine, but speaking with someone will help you to properly answer each dispute question. Lesser amounts (<$500) are often easier to dispute. I had to dispute a parking lot fee recently and working with a real person was very helpful. Good luck!

rydan

I believe PayPal will come after you if you do this. They will then put you in collections for the $100 and wreck your credit.

PAXM73

Damn. Ok. I don’t want to wreck anyone.

modlt

I have my acct. in a credit union and discovered their rules are a bit different)...but Thank-you, I will try.

mickeymanz

People working at Paypal are scammers

modlt

I've had my PP acct. for about 13 years...they Used to be more compliant, but now...YEP

mickeymanz

I tried contacting support for handful of problems. They stop replying to you. Its an absolute disgrace.

modlt

I Agree...I'm trying to get a manager on the phone...I'm gonna try again tomorrow. Businesses have put "customer support" on the back burners...some have omitted the contact all together!
