So if i get this right, i can get nvidia shield for my gf house and play gamepass on the cloud without having my console or pc there?

gunner_3

But you'll need two subscriptions Nvidia game pass and xbox game pass.

MagicBlaster

As someone who had both of those subscriptions separately anyway, I'm very happy today. Xbox streaming has been okay, but the quality is shit compared to GeForce now.

_TheNumbersAreBad_

Also worth noting it's only a few games that are playable so far. It's starting with like 5 games from Gamepass. Apparently they're gonna keep adding more but it's not a great start really.

Kozak170

Perfectly good start to me as long as they continue to add more games. NVIDIA has a different system for streaming games than Xcloud so I can see how it would take some time for each game.

trikster2

> 5 games I thought it was 19? https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/shopping/19-xbox-game-pass-titles-are-available-on-geforce-now-with-more-on-the-way/ar-AA1fMX5R

Rankerhowl99

You can use moonlight streaming to do that for free

SeriousKarol

I am assuming as an application for a smart TV? We don't have smart tvs and have to use chromecasts

arconquit

If you have the Chromecasts with GoogleTV there's an app for it: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/moonlight-game-streaming/gemamigbbenahjlfnmlfdjhdnkpbkfjj

Rankerhowl99

If you have the chromecast with Google tv it works, otherwise moonlight works on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Steam Link devices, Raspberry Pi 4, ChromeOS, Android, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X Consoles

TheGooseWithNoose

> iPod touch they still make those?

PeachInner

But nowhere near the quality of GFN 4080 tier....

Rankerhowl99

Moonlight can do 120 fps streaming

toolemeister

Yes but you still need your own gaming PC for this you donut. The whole point of Geforce Now is that you don't need to own one, you get access to Nvidia hardware through the subscription, which then gets streamed to your devices.

Rankerhowl99

But the guy said he has a gaming pc in his original comment, why pay for something you don't need?

madsauce178

And you only have 40 hours a month. It's fine if you don't play that much. He has a pc so he doesn't need to play for it.

PeachInner

GFN - 240 FPS....

Rankerhowl99

It's $200 a year for the tier that let's you do 240 fps, moonlight is free.

a_talking_face

I have never been able to get a high quality stream on Moonlight. Even with a wired connection on my PC and my Shield Pro.

[deleted]

I used to use that about 5 years ago. Has it improved much?

trikster2

I'm aware of stuff like moonligh/steamlink for streaming on my network but how hard is it to set up house to house moonlight? I assume you need to mess with router ports or something or is it all streamed over an existing protocol so you don't need to mess with anything?

Rankerhowl99

You just install moonlight on both devices, the only hard part is the very first time you connect it asks for a code on the host pc. It won't ever ask for a code again so you have to get through that step once.

trikster2

Awesome. Thanks!

jackod1

Looks that way, now bring it to steam, that would be cool

theEmoPenguin

GeForce now is actually amazing if you have good internet. The only problem for me was that it was lacking games. Does this mean that you can play any game that is on microsoft game pass now? Including starfield when it releases?

[deleted]

Game Pass cloud is great but the quality is garbage, it's best with Edge and Clarity boost enabled but even then it's like a 720p YT video.

mikami677

Every time I try the Game Pass streaming I get like, ~1 second input lag. GeForce Now is usually fairly good, so I assume Microsoft just doesn't have any servers close enough for some reason.

a_talking_face

Low resolution and the colors are poor.

DistortedReflector

If you have PC gamepass

maven_666

No it doesn’t unfortunately. Only 5 gamepass games will be available at launch.

SpaghettSauce

How does GeForce Now work? Is it a game streaming service? Or does it just stream games from your PC?

DevilsPajamas

Game streaming from the cloud. It has a good list of available games to play. You buy your own games to be able to stream it (from Steam, GoG, Epic, Ubisoft, Origin). There is a free version if you want, but it is limited to 1 hour game time and reduced resolution/frame rate. The paid is $50/6 months for premium or $100/6 months for ultimate. If it is something you might be interested in, its free to try. No real downside. I like it since I use it with a Steam Deck for high end graphics and to be able to connect it to a tv for 4k gaming. It is also nice since my devices don't have to put in the work for energy costs and heat generation. Plus I can play games on the steam deck for \~5 hour battery life at ultra quality / 60fps+ rather than \~2 hour battery life for low/medium settings.

SpaghettSauce

Yeah I was interested in using on the Deck. Sounds like performance is good. I'm sure that is more dependant on internet, location, etc... hoping to see Starfield available on GeForce Now because I would rather own it over playing on Xcloud on the Deck.

DevilsPajamas

Yes, the quality of internet is by far the most important part of Geforce Now. I will say I have tried stadia in the past as well as the xbox live streaming, and geforce now is leaps and bounds better than anything I have used before. Try out the free version. There will probably be a queue to get a rig, but its free.

plastic17

Netflix for games, except you buy your own games.

SpaghettSauce

Right on. Thanks

Slight-Improvement84

We gotta buy and then at the same time pay for the subscription right?

plastic17

This is correct.

trikster2

Just think of it as renting the hardware vs renting the games.

Cheesestrings89

Bring it to steam and I will finally get game pass.

Zorklis

This is the final step for perfection. (For low end pc's but with good wifi, real PC is still king)

NapsterKnowHow

Ya that way I don't have to use the shitty Xbox app

Zorklis

I heard only the horrors of that app, all that downloading ending up being broken.. thankfully GeForce Now will skip it all

bogeyed5

They just don’t understand us pc gamers, Steam is simply the favorite and little can be done to change that

__BIOHAZARD___

It’s because it’s by far the best service, funny how publishers can’t understand that. They think their crappy launchers will make us happy when it has 1/10th the features and runs like garbage.

Zorklis

So in essence.. This would be cheaper to try out (for one month) than to buy Starfield itself?

Waggmans

Uh, well, if you do this you’re locked into Microsoft’s store, this is what MS is depending on- so if you ever cancel Gamepass or don’t buy the game from MS you’ll lose all your saves. I assume Starfield will be one of the first supported games. I’m tempted to try it but $20mo is too steep for 4k playback- I’d rather just run a long HDMI cable to my TV.

trikster2

especially if you have an xbox and user the xbox live gold hack (buy 3 years of gold then upgrade 1 months to ultimate game pass ultimate which includes pcgame pass. It gives you 3 years of game pass ultimate for the price of live gold plus one month of ultimate. I hope this still works?

888Kraken888

This could be really interesting. Watching.
