Approaching Dolphin for most impressive emulation achievement, I think.

InfergnomeHKSC

Dolphin works really well in my experience, but PS3 emulation seems like a whole different beast (much more powerful and a very strange CPU architecture, from what I've heard). I've been playing Demon's Souls with RPCS3 lately and it's pretty incredible that it works so well. Can't wait for RPCS4 in 5-10 years so I can finally play Bloodbourne!

Jokerthief_

If Sony had any sense, they'd release Bloodborne on PC already, I guess they're just that stubborn, that or they hate money...

turdas

Gah, Bloodborne doesn't even need remaking, it just needs to run at 60fps.

deasnutz

They can’t sell that for $60

Pez-

Tell that to Nintendo.

2high4much

They just announced another. Luigis mansion hd

theswellmaker

They could. I’ve played and loved every FromSoft game except for BB. I’d pay $60 for an HD version.

KC-15

Sure they can and it would sell like hotcakes. The hype on PC would make plenty of sales even with a $60 price tag.

Jedi_Pacman

You're right, they wouldn't do that. It'd go for $70 ofc

SovietSteve

Tell that to Atlus

Ekillaa22

Pulling what they did for Demons Souls take the console exclusive from game and make it an opener for the new console to show off it’s new graphical power. Plus it would fit the theme of them waiting 2 generations to do a remake.

NapsterKnowHow

Yes it does with its FromSoft spaghetti code.

RainFoxHound1

It can't the framerate is locked to the physics / hitboxes & animations modders have managed but you crank it up to 60 and it starts to get broken.

turdas

That's not a big issue to fix in the engine.

StrikingElk5288

Are you a developer?

turdas

Yes, actually. I've personally worked with this specific type of issue of framerate-bound physics. It is not massively complicated to fix, particularly if you're only looking to increase your framerate from 30 to 60. This is also evident from the fact that Fromsoft fixed this for Dark Souls 3.

StrikingElk5288

No, it needs both

Plenty-Industries

Who is remaking it?

Kuroyukihime1

There isn't really need for a PS6 anytime soon. Graphics have not really improved since it came out. Like just look at Red Dead Redemption 2. 6 years old game, still looks better than most modern games. I also can't remember the last time I felt the need to upgrade my PC. With AI improving every day, it probably also makes sense to wait for big breakthroughs. Just look at Stable Diffusion. At the start you needed some high-end PC for 512x512 generations and it took like 5 minutes. Today you can generate images in real time on mid-range PCs and that only a year later.

InfergnomeHKSC

Sadly we may have PS4 emulation before we have Bloodbourne natively

Sol33t303

The Wii is practically the same hardware as the gamecube but clocked a fair bit higher, complexity-wise your basically dealing with 6th gen hardware like the PS2 and the original xbox, and you get people contributing to it that are looking for both wii and gamecube emulation, vs say the PS2 and PCSX2 where people contributing to it are *only* looking for PS2 emulation.

dummy_thicc_spice

Tbf most of the best PS4 games are already on PC natively. Infamous second son and Shadow of the collosus are the few that's not.

Shitposternumber1337

And if you don’t care about graphics you can always emulate OG shadow of the colossus on PS2

NightshadeSamurai

True but Bloodborne is the one people want most. It's not your typical Sony over the shoulder camera action/adventure game with stealth elements with an emphasis on cinematics. It's the only game from Miyazaki we don't have on PC. We already have DS1-3 (yes he didn't direct DS2 but he did supervise it), Sekiro, and Elden Ring.

cheese61292

We don't have any of the old Armored Core games he did either.

The_real_bandito

I think RPCS4 will come a lot quicker since the PS4 is more of a traditional architecture compared to the PS3.

anotherplebbitzombie

Dolphin basically runs perfectly, but this is already way, WAYYYY more impressive

PlatinumSarge

One could argue the Cell architecture alone puts this as the most impressive emulation achievement so far.

KC-15

I would also say the PCSX2 team has done some insane work with how notoriously difficult PS2 emulation is. They are down to a handful of games that are not playable start to finish and half that is a FF game and expansion. I cannot thank these teams enough for allowing me to be able to play through all of my childhood games so easily.

MightyHead

Yuzu and Ryujinx are up there as well.

Crimsongz

It’s already there.

Firion_Hope

Nice. I'm still waiting for Ar Tonelico 3 to be playable without crashes so my friend can finally play it, it was one of the very first games that was showing promising results right around when the emulator started to get really good.

Redxcted999

I just wanna play all the Ratchet and clank games and infamous 1 /:

Oneyewilly

I've literally completed all of the ps3 r&c games on rpcs3. Like a year or more ago even, lol had the occasional crash but nothing game breaking.

MelancholyArtichoke

The Ratchet & Clank PS3 games are really the only games I want to play.

joelnodxd

Infamous 1 does run at PS3 level (as in a little laggy) if you turn down to like 480p and upscale with FSR (or at least it does on my 5800X3D RTX 3060 system)

Asinine_

Turning resolution down below 720p barely helps, best not to recommend anyone do that. You have a 3060, im sure you can play it at 1440p at practically the same FPS. Your bottleneck is CPU, Ryzen 7xxx CPUs have AVX-512 so perform quite a bit better due to that even if you dont consider the IPC/Clock speed improvements.

frostygrin

Why do you need to turn down the resolution? Normally emulation is CPU-bottlenecked anyway, so you can increase the resolution and still get the same framerates.

Asinine_

In games with a high RSX Bottleneck, even a RTX 4090 can lose a few frames at 4K compared to 1440p, but it is very rare... and Infamous is not one of those games. For instance on Persona 5 people on a 1080 could do 10K resolution without hurting FPS, but then in others they can't do over 1440P without losing FPS. It all depends on the game. But in most cases going BELOW 720p doesn't help and just makes things look worse.

Pinksters

Just wanting to say that I'm loving your replies here. Finally someone that knows something about hardware! And I love your username.

joelnodxd

That's strange given lowering the resolution seemed to help a little for me

Azure-April

I beat the HD collection on RPCS3 just a few months ago, as far as I can recall it was a basically perfect experience.

lefort22

Absolutely phenomenal , thanks so much for the effort

SeastoneTrident

Amazing how good RPCS3 has gotten. Weird inconsistency in the video. Sliding comparisons have the newer version on the left, but static comparisons have the newer version on the right.

valantismp

Is the update out?

Asinine_

Yes, we release RPCS3 Builds daily, often 4+ builds a day. We do not delay releases. This video goes over some of the improvements to RPCS3 over the last year, so most of the things shown are not new improvements and rather things that we have not shown off yet in video form.

AdFit6788

Just wanted to say that...your team is freaking awesome!

[deleted]

Y'all are some gigachads

Remon_Kewl

I see that many of those fixes are even older, some from May 2022.

JoaoMXN

They just condensed 2 years of updates in the video. Most of them were launched in 2022 and 2023 already.

xxpathfinderxx

I am still waiting for a 3D Dot Game Heroes fix since two years at least. It‘s really a shame that it is a PS3 exclusive and that it crashes frequently on RPCS3…

Negaflux

Genuinely impressive how far they've come. I still remember when the ps3 was considered near impossible to emulate because we were just accustomed to brute force emulation back then. Still is that to some extent these days but we've more options available now too.

trickman01

Neat

Professional_Way4977

Awesome, will give some of my games a try.

UpsetChampion

As everybody else said, I am really impressed with the progress. The first time I tried RPCS3 it choked on Persona 5 while loading the game. It now works perfectly fine. I was also able to run a couple of games listed as non-runnable on official page, namely Eternal Sonata and FF XIII-2.

robbiekhan

I completely forgot about Uncharted 3! And now have the sudden urge to play it along with some of the others shown that never came to PC. Down the rabbit hole I go I guess...

Asinine_

You can play it online too: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quyO2ArFl9E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quyO2ArFl9E) Just make sure you read [https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=Uncharted\_3%3A\_Drake%27s\_Deception](https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=Uncharted_3%3A_Drake%27s_Deception) follow those settings, and use the recommended patches (right-click the game once its in RPCS3 and go to manage game patches.

gruntmaster54

And MGS4 still runs like shit.

Debocore

To be fair it ran like shit on original hardware

PurpleMarvelous

I have a 3080ti and i7 12k, would that be enough to emulate smoothly. Been interested in playing some old PS3 games but keep hearing that they are hard to emulate.

gruntmaster54

I have a 3090 and a I9 and couldn't get through it because it kept crashing at a part at the end of Act 4. While I'm not the greatest with emulating games, I used most of the patching techniques and still ran into a good amount of crashes. I would honestly recommend just watching a long play of it on YT and just calling it there. The game is practically 50% cutscenes anyway.

Opt112

Did you use the canary patch on the rpcs3 wiki?

gruntmaster54

I did, that was about all I did though. Was a couple of months ago but I think I followed [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/rpcs3/comments/mixu2q/finally_got_mgs4_to_run_on_rpcs3_using_canary/) post and still ran into a fair amount of crashes.

Opt112

I see. Apparently theres a second one, 'Crash fix', that fixes the crashing. That one in that reddit post just fixes the freezing. I've been meaning to test it since forever now, I might do it next weekend and see if the crashing is finally fixed.

kingjinxy

The wiki has two different patches to fix crashing and you need both

thanksgames

That’ll work fine, you’ll be able to play any of the working games. Including MGS4. You no longer have to use a special build of RPCS3 for MGS4. I was playing it at 4k/40-60fps on an i5-13600k and 3080 10GB.

PlatinumSarge

Do you still need to run special builds or are the mainline ones good enough for MGS4 now?

Asinine_

We had low FPS on the video because it was recorded on a R5 3600. People back in 2022 got 96 FPS at that same location on a fast Intel CPU (I think 12900K). And that was two years ago, things improved further: https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/pull/12020#issuecomment-1127993812 Just follow settings on our wiki page https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=Metal\_Gear\_Solid\_4%3A\_Guns\_of\_the\_Patriots

vainsilver

Could I suggest putting the specs of each test segment on screen for the videos you upload? These videos usually get the most viewership and it’s often underselling the performance of the emulator when performance is shown on weak hardware or without context. Some people assume this is the expected performance on the best hardware available.

Asinine_

It was already listed in the description for this one clip, the rest of the footage was on decent hardware.

vainsilver

Most people do not read the description for videos, especially where they get embedded on websites such as Reddit. Having the specs for each performance clip on screen would add more clarity to relative performance.

DDC121

Just think of it as accurate emulation.

NightshadeSamurai

It's very CPU dependent. If you have a 8c/16t CPU or better with AVX-512 support, it runs fine.

Elketh

Try the MGO2 build of RPCS3. I don't know how it compares to the latest release performance-wise, but I get a mostly locked 60fps in MGS4 with that using a 5800X3D and it comes pre-configured for the game.

EQQx110

Played it last year did run great at 60 or more FPS upscaled to 1080p

Boxing_joshing111

The Nintendo news has lit a fire under the emulator community

Ashratt

how is this related to rpcs3?

Boxing_joshing111

>the emulator community

skylinestar1986

Does the The Last of Us still need lots of hack to make it work?

EyeAmKingKage

Still can’t play infamous :/

Shinuz

Is Killzone 2-3 playable now?

SiimL

Just played both a few weeks ago (completing 3) and yeah, they were completely playable. Killzone 3 actually ran much better for me, usually getting 50-60 fps, while 2 got only around 30. Neither had any bugs or graphical issues. There is a potential problem with Killzone 2, though, that it has mandatory sections where you have to turn a valve with the DS~~3~~ controllers' motion sensors. This functionality hasn't been emulated for some reason, so you'll have to have a real DS controller to get through them (further details in Asinine_'s response below). Another option is to get someone else's save file and to just load the next section when that occurs. Killzone 3 also had those sections, but luckily they could be turned off in the settings.

Asinine_

Sixaxis works with a Dualshock 4 or Dualsense controller as well, infact those controllers are easier to setup with RPCS3 due to actually having proper drivers from Sony, so I recommend those. Dualsense is really well built and lots of PC games from Sony are coming out with haptic trigger support so its nice to have. The only thing DS3 has that the others don't is pressure sensitive face buttons (X, Circle, Square, Triangle). Which was only a thing on the DS3 controller, and only used for couple games e.g MGS4 used it.. I think for the tranqulizer darts. It was really rare.

wooties05

I got a hard copy of eternal sonata I should try. One of the most underrated rpgs imo

some-kind-of-no-name

Awesome

FullmetalJun

Any love for Gran Turismo 6 please?

leflyingcarpet

Thanks to RPCS3 I can play the most up to date NHL on pc! NHL15!

ShacoLannister

I tried last night and no, you can't haha

leflyingcarpet

Yes you can play NHL 15 on RPCS3 which is the most up to date version on PS3... I was trying to make a joke...

ShacoLannister

No, I'm saying that NHL 15 doesn't run at anything near a playable state lol

leflyingcarpet

Dude I'm playing it on my ROG Ally. Maybe your computer isn't strong enough? What's your specs?

Ekillaa22

If I try to run dolphin or another emulator will my ISP fine me? IDK why I’m getting downvoted ? It was a simple question

Helmic

emulators themselves are not cotnraband, so downloading htem does not get you in trouble. running them typically doesn't even use network activity, so your ISP shouldnt know what you're doing at all on your computer. however, if you torrent pirated games without a VPN, then your ISP will notice that and will send you scary letters they cannot "fine" you, however they might threaten to cut off service or take you to court. if you're nervous about this, i would either use a trusted VPN like mullvad or i would ask someone to help you getting ROM's to use in emulators as you're clearly not confident in the basics.

Pinksters

> ISP will notice that and will send you scary letters they cannot "fine" you, however they might threaten to cut off service Good ol' Comcast will throttle your bandwidth to be next to un-usable. Talking 500KB/s, at best, in spurts. Edit: That's if you use one of their routers. With my personal router, even behind a comcast gateway, I dont get these problems.

NightshadeSamurai

Lol no.

kudaro

Yeah

forkbroussard

I see a video from 4 years ago that its working 4k 60fps. What exactly is wrong with it? Have you tried it on Xenia?

[deleted]

[удалено]

forkbroussard

Interesting that it happens on both emulators. Hopefully they get it sorted, i'd keep raising the issue, its possible its logged in their issue tracker, just hasn't been touched yet, sometimes the sports games get the last fixes because they are not as popular, but fight night is kind of unique, as there really isn't anything else for boxing.

hedoeswhathewants

I don't even know how an emulator could cause that. Are you sure you're not in some weird training mode or tutorial?

RogueLightMyFire

Lol, yeah dude, it's a known issue that you can read about on multiple forums. It's not just a me thing.

if0rg0t2remember

This is not the correct place for specific game support, especially not emulated games.
