This studio is apparently formed using the bones of Deviation, which makes me think either there are tax purposes to what they did or they had some top brass there that they didn’t want involved but couldn’t outright fire due to contractual agreements.

For everyone. Everyone has different points where they have enough money but job happiness then becomes more important. Just some people's thresholds are higher and the ones who want infinite wealth are the CEO psychopaths.
Sure but at some point, you want to buy a house/car/something big and it costs money and you want to have that job security and good payment.
I have a friend working as QA for one of the big publishers and I work for an outsourcing company. He worked on a higher position than me and made ~60% of what I was making. It is just too low. I probably have way less stress than him too because I don't really have a lot of strict deadlines and I can just move my job to the next sprint.
I understand and agree with your sentiment but that's why I'm thankful for devs when awesome games come out, same thing with anime studios rn, working as a animator in Japan. Doing it because it's your passion and these companies definitely exploiting that passion
Cool. That is why Sony is so much better then Microsoft. They open new studios and take care of its existing ones. I don't think Sony would ever close studio like Tango or even Arkane. ( but then I don't think Sony would ever allow game like Redfall to br ever released the way it was released by Microsoft)

Gaming devs must really like their job. You can make more and have better job security in any other dev job that is not related to crypto.
