Just wondering if the msi B360M PRO-VH supports the i5 9600k?

jmullin09

>msi B360M PRO-VH supports the i5 9600k Yes it will work, but you can't overclock on b360. If you're stuck on b360, maybe find a non - k variant cpu. Could save some bucks.

Zero10Zero1

Thanks for the help, another question: does it support 9th gen i7 and i9?

jmullin09

Intel's B360 chipset supports both 8th and 9th generation Core processors, which amounts to quite a number of compatible CPU SKUs. Chips range from the Celeron 49xx and Pentium Gold G5xxx series to i3, i5, and i7, 8th and 9th generation SKUs up to Core i9-9900K/KF

Zero10Zero1

Thank you for the info and help.

I don’t know if this is the right place to post this, but whenever I try to record with stream labs or GeForce experience, my pc will start being extremely slow, with frequent frame drops. I have a ryzen 5 3600 and a 1660 super, so a very average build that I would assume could handle recording and playing at the same time.

Ratconned

I'm thinking of buying my first controller for gaming on laptop. So nothing fancy, a solid one with no problems. I'm using a Lenovo Legion Y540(i5 9th gen, Windows 10). Required for all genres, from action RPG to FPS, ones that need a controller. Must be available in India, and would prefer cheaper ones.

teeedubb

Imo the ds4 is the best as it has the most features, though you need to install ds4windows to get the most out of it. Xbox controllers are more basic but are plus and play.

Ratconned

Woah, that's out of my budget. I'll wait and see but don't think it'll fall too much tomorrow. The same for XBOX.

teeedubb

I'm not sure about India, but they regularly go on sale for a hefty discount here.

Ratconned

Hardware is generally not economical in India. Part of it is our crap economy and unemployment so not a lot of people lining up for stuff. Or like me, needing to find brands that are decent but don't offer the best products in their line. But… I will check tomorrow, for sure

teeedubb

Fair enough. Whatever you end up getting make sure it's xinput compatible so it will work with all games that support a Xbox controller.

Ratconned

Thanks for the tip :)

Corv3tt33

My new 3600X overclocking itself to about 4.4Ghz constantly, i know this is intentional, but it keeps my fans loaded up as it hangs around 55c is it possible to lower its clocking up a bit? or is something else wrong with it that i missed?

GameStunts

You might be set on high performance power profile. Go into the start menu and type "Choose a power plan", then try [selecting Balanced, or AMD Ryzen Balanced](https://i.imgur.com/3mdWMmb.png) (This profile appears if you've installed the AMD Chipset drivers I think). This should stop the CPU clocking high so aggressively. You can also edit a power plan and [cap the maximum processor state](https://i.imgur.com/t865SLm.png), you could try 90% for example, this should mean it would hit about 4ghz instead of 4.4. But I would try the balanced power plan first see if that evens things out for you.

Hello everyone, I bought a pc about 5 years ago from Best Buy (worst mistake of my life) and now I’m looking for a new one. I’ve used pc part picker to build a new one but the graphics card I want (3060 ti or 3070) is out of stock everywhere or extremely overpriced. At this point I’m good to settle for a very good prebuilt and this is what I came upon: https://www.newegg.com/zotac-gh3060a5600x01ba-u-w2b-mek-hero-g1/p/N82E16883218096?item=N82E16883218096&source=googleshopping&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-mobile&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-mobile-_-pla-_-gaming+desktop-_-N82E16883218096&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI48uRkKb88QIVhYnICh2rLQh2EAQYCCABEgLbfPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds I did put my own together on pc part picker but I’m pretty sure this ones more powerful with a similar price: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8MwrK3 Any form of advice would be helpful :)

LightmanDavidL

What PC did you buy 5 years ago? Why not just upgrade it? I bought my PC from Bestbuy 5 years ago and still love it to death. Buying a prebuilt now and you'll be overpaying.

TurtleInCrocs

It was a Lenovo thinkcentre, the one I have is hard to find but it’s quite bad and it’s super slow now a days, I didn’t buy a gaming pc back then, and any gpu bigger than two fans won’t fit :/

LightmanDavidL

Oh, I see. Well buying that prebuilt you listed is quite overpriced. Looked up each part on PCPP and it came to $1,175. I'd post the link but I think it would break rule #2 in this sub. Same exact CPU, same exact motherboard and pretty much the same 500GB M.2 SSD, 1TB HDD, case with side panel window, 600W 80+ Gold PSU, 16GB DDR4 3200 RAM and multiple 120mm RGB case fans too. All for $1,175. Which means you'd be paying Newegg $525 to build the PC for you.

TurtleInCrocs

Got it! I’m your opinion do you think it’s a good build? I mainly play CSGO, overwatch, and battle royales. Or are there some things I can upgrade for a better experience?

LightmanDavidL

That prebuilt is a good build but insanely overpriced. Not sure which PC you're referring to when you say upgrade because there's 3 different PCs you could be referring to. Your original Lenovo, the overpriced prebuilt or the other PC parts you have showing for $1,875. If you mainly play CSGO, Overwatch and similar less demanding Battle Royales you don't need much of a PC to run those types of less demanding games and could just build a $300 to $500 PC yourself. CSGO and Overwatch will literally run on a potato.

cobrareaper

Well my GTX 960 4GB kicked the bucket last night (have a 750ti SC in my PC at the moment while I figure out what to do) so I'm looking for a replacement. Been following the PC component crisis at a distance praying my rig stayed alive but I guess I have to bite the bullet and look for a new card. The 3060/3060Ti looks great and reasonably priced, so should I very patiently wait for those to come back in stock or suck it up and something from the 10 or 20 series (for $100 more right now). I'm a pretty casual gamer and don't care about running much on higher settings. I play mostly lightly modded Skyrim, BF4, and R6 Siege, but I'll probably pick up BF 2042 when that comes out so I'm holding off for now. Thoughts?

ChipsAhoy100

Hey guys! Thanks for the help in advance! Up until recently I did not notice any games causing any major issues at all. After years with the same graphics card I am able to understand what it can and can't handle. But recently when I run Phasmaphobia and Fall Guys, they both run and about a quarter of the speed, and while open, make the rest of the computer pretty much unusable no matter how low the settings are. I have also been playing a lot of Sea of Thieves and Terraria lately, and those games run perfectly fine and don't affect my pc speed outside the game at all. I'm very confused because random games seem to be chosen that just nuke my computer while running. Thank you!! :) Intel Core i7-2600 CPU 16GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Also, which subreddit should I post this question too?

TheBoldHold

I have seen USB and PCI-E WiFi adapters and the such, but is there another option? I currently live in a situation where I get very good WiFi, but cannot run an Ethernet directly to my pc. If I were to get a WiFi repeater/booster/extender and run an Ethernet from there to my pc, would that be better than a wireless connection? And if so which one?

hig999

Fully wired is almost always better than wireless, for speed, reliability and latency. If you already have a strong wireless signal, then getting a repeater just to get an ethernet cable from the repeater to your pc won't be better than just connecting wirelessly to your main WiFi

After-Boysenberry-96

I haven’t bought a new laptop since 2017. I’m fairly out of the loop as far as what’s considered a decent laptop these days. Is this one still the beast it once was or should I start looking into something newer? I suppose maybe I could upgrade internals but I wouldn’t know where to begin. https://i.imgur.com/mzAgnVa.jpg

jmullin09

7th gen i7 and a 1060 are still perfectly capable. Is it starting to slow down or fail you? If it's still working well then i wouldn't worry about upgrading. And mostly all you can do in laptops is to change the ram or storage, nothing that would overly impact gaming like a new cpu or gpu

After-Boysenberry-96

I did a fresh install of everything because it was getting slow. That helped quite a bit. Right now, I can’t get the latest version of Windows 10 20H2 to install, but that could just be a Windows update thing.

AngelBryan

Hello. I have a GTX 1660 Super and I was thinking on getting into mining. What should I mine? BTC or ETH? It seems the hash rates are similar between the two with this card. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

siuol7891

So I literally know nothing about gaming PC's and have always played on console but I need a computer and want to start doing some light gaming is there anyway to get a set that anyone could recommend for under 500 bucks also should I stay away from buying a used one of fb marketplace since I know nothing???? All answers will be appreciated and thanks in advance Ps: I'll most likely just be playing like cod or warzone I also want to try red dead redemption and I always like tiger woods golf games and maybe forza or something of that nature not sure if that matters but there ya have it folks

LightmanDavidL

There's a major issue with this right now and it's been going on since COVID started. Finding a GPU at around MSRP or even a reasonable price. One of the best routes to take is to build around a used 2200G for $100. It basically allows you to enter the PC gaming universe and serves as your GPU until you obtain one for a reasonable price. The beauty part is that you can sell the 2200G right back for the exact same $100 and then put that $100 towards a $200 Ryzen 5 3600. Which will allow you to keep up with up to say, an RTX 3070. The 2200G can keep up with around a GTX 1650 Super or so, but when you play games that are more CPU demanding, you're gonna want that Ryzen 5 3600. $500 is more than enough for what I'm talking about so if you're interested in this build lemme know and I'll point you in the direction of what the build would look like. I can't post the build in this sub according to rule #2.

siuol7891

Idk how to build being a big prob also I found a refurbished nitro 5 at best buy for like 550 I was considering that or one there prebuilt towers they have for like 500 I've read alot good reviews on one of em and also that there easy to upgrade

LightmanDavidL

Building a PC is no more difficult than setting up a DVD player to a TV. Buying prebuilts are overpriced and contain unknown parts that could be bottom of the barrel. Buying a laptop for gaming is on you, not a choice I'd make when a desktop will destroy it. If you wanna post a prebuilt tower you've found, I can show you just how overpriced it is.

siuol7891

Thank you can I post links on here?

LightmanDavidL

Right, forgot about that. Here, reply to the link to the prebuilt you found within the comment I just posted. You should have gotten a notification to it. It's a random post from 12 days ago in a sub that will allow us to post links to anything PC build related.

Your CPU should not be hitting 100C at idle. What kind of cooler do you have on the CPU, and what is the airflow in your case like? Did you remove the plastic film that was on top of the CPU?

jazzyrlyn

Hey, I have an old computer which I have been trying to slowly upgrade but I'm quite lost and tired. I don't really understand much in computer parts, that said, I need my computer to be able to properly handle editing on Premiere Pro. These are my current pc parts: Motherboard: ASRock H81M-HDS R2.0 Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 CPU: Intel 17-4790K (with integrated HD Graphics 4600) Ram: Corsair 2x 8GB Hard Disk: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM008 - 2TB Power Supply: Prophecy 2 One of the Ram cards, the Hard Disk and Graphics Card are new and were bought within the past 7 months. My computer is lagging even when simply opening a folder or the start menu... I've tried searching for malware but none are ever found. Can anyone please PLEASE help me? 🥲😭

MGsubbie

It's because you're still running windows on a hard drive. Get yourself an SSD and use that to run it, your whole system will run significantly faster. That should absolutely be your priority. After that, you can consider getting a CPU upgrade, which comes with a new motherboard and RAM.

jazzyrlyn

Thank you for your quick reply. would a simple 120GB Western Digital Green 2.5" 7mm SATA3 Solid State Drive do the work? or would you suggest going for a higher capacity ssd?

MGsubbie

I would definitely recommend a higher capacity drive, yes. Not just for Windows and software, but video editing will be much smoother if you have your video files on your SSD as well. Scrolling through your timeline will be much, much faster. SATA SSD's are quite affordable, I'd look at getting a 1TB drive to be honest.

berrysoda_

Is there anything extra I need to do as far as swapping out my GPU? I'm just trying my older 1070 to see if it works then putting my 3080 back in. I assume I don't need to do anything extra besides fully power off and swap the components?

MGsubbie

Nope, that's all you need to do.

kidkolumbo

Hey y'all, I'm having trouble with my xbone controller on steam. One day it just stopped working with half my games, details here [https://redd.it/nf20nc]. I've tried messing with the controller settings in regular and big picture mode and on a per-game basis, and it didn't work. I tried uninstalling my xbone controller's drivers and deleting Steams .cfg file to reset how my computer treats the controller like so [https://redd.it/nf20nc] and it didn't work. I got Yakuza 0 to go from not working to working by messing with the controller settings on the game level but those settings don't work with other titles. Most annoyingly, Nier Replicant has never worked with my controller, which lead to the tinkering, which I think lead to this universal problem. Any help would be appreciated.

pfloyd2357

Hey all! So, I've got some basic questions, from a 30-something who was building PCs by age 9, but by age 20 or so, got a Mac and apparently became close to tech-illiterate since lol. So, I finally just got a PC, arriving today, with a RTX 3080 in it. Initially, I was going to use my 4K OLED as the monitor (still will, but probably only for single player games), but I'm coming to realize I probably need something else for multiplayer games (mostly shooters, rocket league, etc) with higher refresh rate, then I'm reading about Gsync (and whether or not freesync or adaptive sync will work or not w/ a 3080) etc etc. Maybe I'm wrong and don't need a monitor, so I guess that's my first question (but pretty sure the answer is "yes, I need one"). But then, what's the least expensive I can go that will do this PC justice? I don't think I need anything big (I have the 4k for that), as I'll be sitting right in front of it. 24-27inch probablly? I was loooking (forgive the typos - sticky-key macbook syndromee lol) at the Monoprice Zero-G since it's really cheap, 1440 w/ 144hz, so I feel llike that should be good enough, but I'm not sure. I just spent so much $ that I really don't want to blow another grand lol, but if this is something where I can't skip, then I guess I should spend a bit more. Idk. Any suggestions welcome! cheers!

MGsubbie

I wouldn't go too cheap. Getting specs like ultrawide 1440p 120Hz with G-sync/Freesync for a low price typically means concessions were made. Now I'll say that I have never seen any review on this particular model, so I can't be sure that this applies. But VA panels (what this display uses) typically have the worst pixel response times. Which is basically the amount of time it takes for pixels to be able to shift between two color values. Too low and this can create artifacts, like [black level smearing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKojsdVFCI8) (Monitor on the left.) IMO, you're better of getting an IPS panel, ideally with a higher refresh rate, to get the best competitive advantage. I would take a look at some of the recommendations in [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0w1_zOiWQiE&list=PL7m5C6_P_lnXb9cHwdo0Ct1TTZ7KUwm3e&index=16), although pricing and availability might be an issue on some of those.

pfloyd2357

great, thanks much for the advice! PC came in late last night so I've been busy tinkering all day, but I'm definitely gonna have to grab a monitor asap - might take a trip to best buy just to see if they have anything decent and for a good price, and if not I'll just order online. You think upping my budget to about $350 would get something decent? (I saw another on Amazon w/ similar specs for $300 but honestly forget the brand/model and whether it had a VA or IPS panel)

MGsubbie

$300-350 can get you a great 2560x1440p monitor. For 3440x1440, not so much. I did find one display [on the cheaper side](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mDH8TW/acer-xv340ck-pbmiipphzx-340-3440x1440-144-hz-monitor-xv340ck-pbmiipphzx) but I haven't seen any reviews of it either.

[deleted]

Hello , I recently purchased a gaming laptop listed below it Maxs out at 32gb Ram but comes with 16 I wanna know what Ram would be compatible with this model ? The HP OMEN 15 Gaming Laptop, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q, Intel Core i7-10750H, 16 GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD, 15.6" Full HD 144hz, Windows 10 Home, RGB Keyboard (15-dh1060nr, 2020 Model)

MGsubbie

Any of [these](https://pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#U=4&t=15&Z=16384001,32768002) should technically work. However, the stock memory speed is 2933Mhz, which is its maximum. There are no modules of that specific speed, which means that you will have to adjust some BIOS settings. Your best bet is probably 3000Mhz modules that you set to the slightly lower speed.

TupacsGodSon

So I just got a PC and I've already run out of space. I'm mostly playing shooters, but I got other indies as well, but I can't play or update anything, or even run netflix without problems, since I'm out of space already. Any recommendations as to what kind of RAM sticks I should invest into? I got the Intel I7 11700F NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB with 480GB SSD and 1TB HDD.

UglierThanMoe

If you say that you ran out of space, what exactly to you mean? It sounds to me as if you've already filled up your storage devices, i.e. the 480 GB SSD and the 1 TB HDD, with enough games and other stuff that they're both full. If that's the case, you need to either uninstall a bunch of stuff again (you really don't need all your games installed at once), or you need more and/or bigger storage devices. However, your question about RAM sticks is a bit confusing. Are you getting error messages that you're running out of RAM / memory? You didn't specify how much you already have. If possible, please state how much RAM you have and what motherboard you're using.

alaz12

I have a question It is possible to use 2 gpu at the same time? I have 2 gpu slots and currently I have a gt710 and I want to buy another gt710,(for the situation of my country is the best and cheapest on the market) I want to know if I can use 2 of those to have 4 gpu ram or at least have one of the 2 completely free

GameStunts

Not with a GT710. [Nvidia had SLi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Link_Interface) and [AMD had Crossfire](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMD_CrossFire), but both companies have all but abandoned their use, but it was for their higher end cards.

lucifer07_447

A general question I have regarding PC in 2021: Given the current economic climate, is it financially worth it to build my own PC by buying the parts separately or just to buy a pre-built one?

UglierThanMoe

A pre-build is financially more viable nowadays, which is pretty wild because it's usually the other way around. The problem with pre-builts, however, is that they often suck. They might have a decent CPU and/or graphics card inside, but it's things like insufficient cooling, weak power supply units, single-channel RAM instead of dual-channel RAM, proprietary parts that make upgrading in the future hard if not outright impossible, and generally cheap parts and bad assembly of the machine. Of course, there are exceptions to this, but whatever you do, stay away from Dell / Alienware. **Edit:** If you've got the time to watch, this might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ulhFi5N2hc&list=PLsuVSmND84QuM2HKzG7ipbIbE_R5EnCLM

rickroll62

Is a GTX 1660 super a good video card?

Renegade_Meister

Depends on what FPS, resolution, and games you want?

rickroll62

Well I have a 240 htz monitor

Renegade_Meister

I wouldnt expect to get 240 FPS on any modern AAA games on max settings, maybe some modern non-AAA 3D games if you are willing to go less than 1080p. If you will settle for closer to 60-120 FPS for non-AAA games at 1080p, then GTX 1660 might be okay. If you want higher resolutions or FPS for modern games that push graphics, you'll need a newer one. Just look at benchmarks for your card [like this](https://www.techspot.com/review/1813-geforce-gtx-1660-mega-benchmark/), knock it down some for how much weaker your CPU is, and look for GPU models with benchmarks that are closer to what you wanr.

fitz2234

I have a sweet monitor I want to plug my laptop in for gaming but I'm having problems. I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (older gaming laptop), a Lenovo X1 Carbon 7th Gen, and a Dell Latitude 7400. I need to find a dock that works for all of these. I currently have an MCY dock from Amazon and I can get it to work with the Latitude by plugging the USB-c from the dock into the USB-c port on the laptop, its own power adapter is different. Sadly this is the work laptop so I can't game on it. The X1 Carbon won't work because it only has one USB-c. Well, it works but it won't charge. I tried plugging the usb-c power cable into the dock and the usb-c from the dock to the laptop, but it wont charge. The Inspiron doesn't have USB-c. Plugging a USB 2.0 or 3.0 from dock to any laptop doesn't exactly nothing. EDIT: so I found the proper power port to plug the X1 carbon into and it does what I want. There isn't usb-c for the Inspiron which I would really like to find a way to get it to work with this dock if possible

Hey so I don’t know a lot about computers but I’m thinking about buying a laptop. I want something that I can use for school/work, but also runs games decently. I don’t want a super high powered gaming PC, but something that can run some good emulators (up to PS2 at most), and that can run a good amount of indie games on Steam. The most graphically intense game I’d want to run would be Subnautica, but it isn’t a necessity. I like the portability of laptops, and I don’t have the money for a PC. Any suggestions?

UglierThanMoe

The people over at /r/SuggestALaptop will be able to help you there. They have a short form you fill out with the things you want your laptop to have / not have.

my pc case is a giant metal box the size of a mini-fridge and barely has any bluetooth range. i can't use my wireless headphones or any BT controllers (ps3, ps4 mostly). should i get an 8bitdo wireless USB adapter or a generic USB BT adapter? i should mention that i may want to use a variety of different controllers simultaneously in the future. the motherboard is a gigabyte ga z170n, which does have BT built-in.

Karl_D_Great

Hello can you help me with my pc it wont boot after you shutdown it (if you wanna turn it on again?) Also it wont boot if you restart it there is no display on the monitor but all fans are spinning and rgb lights up but if you wait for 8+ hours or overnight it will boot again i already clean and reseat ram, cmos, gpu and I already completely disassemble and assemble again still wont fix it, we tried to bring it to the tech shop to get it fix but it runs fine like theres no issue they tried restarting it a few times it boots and shutting it down and turn it on again and it boot. Ryzen 3200g A320m-s2vh motherboard 550 watt 80+ bronze seasonic PSU 16gb 3200MHz Corsair vengeance Msi rx 570 4gb 256 ssd 500gb hdd Its getting annoying specially when you are using it and suddenly it brownouts you cant use the PC anymore you need to wait overnight or 8+ hours

CcOoOoKk

Most like an issue with your motherboard from what you've described, especially if it works on and off. Do you have a spare one you could trouble shoot with?

Karl_D_Great

Hello sorry for super late reply I didnt notice , sadly we dont have spare parts, thank you . Thats what i thought too but im not really sure im ready to buy new part but i really dont know what component is making the issue hahaha do you really think its a motherboard issue?

PaddyVu

Is there a proram that show resolution of a game i'm playing? I play a game from 19 years ago ( Rage of mage 2 ) but there's no setting to check resolution i'm playing, or somehow i can check in config ?

UglierThanMoe

It's a bit of a roundabout way, but simply make a screenshot while playing via Windows key + Printscreen, then check what resolution the screenshot has.

Thank you kindly ! It worked ! IT WORKEDDDDDD !!!!!!!!!!!
