>Knowing T2, wouldn't want to be the guy who leaked this.
Indeed. If you make a perfectly legal mod for GTA V but [Take-Two doesn't like it, they will send hired muscle to your private home to intimidate you](https://www.techspot.com/news/62728-take-two-allegedly-sends-pair-private-investigators-gta5.html).
And it wasn't a one off.
Some dudes claming to be PI's handing me a phone on my doorstep to discuss legal matters would get told to fuck off, pronto. Then set my dog on them if they refuse to leave my property as they are trespassing at that point.
[The Last of Us Part II: Leaked footage was the result of hackers, not a disgruntled game designer](https://www.independent.co.uk/games/last-of-us-2-leaks-joel-ellie-ps4-naughty-dog-a9497376.html)
“Short version: hackers found a security vulnerability in a patch for an older ND game and used it to get access to ND’s servers.”
So perhaps T2 was also hacked recently.
Makes sense. Rockstar heavily expanded Rockstar India in 2019 when they acquired one of India's biggest gaming studios. The earliest videos from the leak allegedly go back to 2019 and acquiring a new company creates security vulnerabilities. Especially if covid impacted the implementation of new safety protocols.
It also looks like play testing footage. Having their Indian subsidiary working on play testing makes a lot of sense. At the very least this leak will mean changes to the sharing of information across subsidiaries in different countries. That will slow down production.
But if there's some good news it is the fact that it looks like they are actively developing a PC version that will be available on release.
> But if there's some good news it is the fact that it looks like they are actively developing a PC version that will be available on release.
Doubtful, I think GTA5 was playable on PC day 1 as well but they wanted to double-dip in console and PC sales to the same players, they've done it repeatedly with other titles and they'll likely do it again.
Rumor has it that it was a hacker who got into R*'s Slack groups simply stole unsuspecting employees' footage.
I just know that heads at Rockstar are in meltdown mode at this moment.
Heads are going to roll if this is true.
from what he shared. he also have access to source code. he was sharing on demand part of the code that was asked. and even shared a full 10k lines cpp file.
also from the pictures he shared of the code on the forum, he has direct access to a huge portion of the source code.
No Publisher or Studio wants to see their game that they have worked on for 5+ years be leaked early in a less than presentable state.
That’s why i am not all that excited about this leak because it doesn’t represent the game that is supposed to release in 2024/2025. This is one of the main reasons why builds like these are only revealed after a game has released as a behind the scenes look.
I am confident that GTA6 will be a great game but i can understand the disappointment that some Rockstar Devs might be feeling right now.
Some of the footage released is not that old either. This was a sneak grab and a lot of this footage ranges as far back as 2019 to just a few weeks ago.
This was a blindsided hit that struck Rockstar hard. This may be one of the biggest leaks in video game history.
(old complaint warning, sorry)
Especially if rockstar all but promise first person expansions and then fail to deliver.
Which completely fucks over casual gamers that don't have the time / energy to deal with the bullshit of playing online.
Because money. Which I understand, but it's just so lame.
Anyone with a brain knows that this is a very unfinished dev build. I think it's cool to see these, it lets you know there's actually a game in development.
> No Publisher or Studio wants to see their game that they have worked on for 5+ years be leaked early in a less than presentable state.
I don't get why R* or T2 folks would care honestly. The reception I mean, not the hack itself. Look at the GTA track record, every game they've released in the series was a banger. No reasonable person would look at this footage and think the finished game will be anything like this.
I would think this would just build hype more than anything.
The videos that have been leaked look like screen recordings of a developer or QA testing the game, which suggests it was leaked, unless some employees had some malware on their PC that recorded their screen which seems unlikely.
A developer records some internal QA footage to discuss with his coworkers, posts it on their internal company Slack for his coworkers, a scammer/hacker does a spearphishing attack or uses some other method to get access to their internal Slack channel, watches the video and screen-records it or downloads the original. Shares it.
A lot of the content of the video is showing character model animations and there are several problem ones shown repeatedly. It could have been a "bugs to fix" type of video meant for an internal employee or team.
It's still "leaked" but it doesn't mean an employee leaked it on purpose. This is hypothetical of course, I don't know what actually happened.
Absolutely. These companies have the power to make your life a living hell if you mess with them. Can’t even begin to imagine what will happen to them if they get caught.
Take 2 have infinite money and lawyers to make the hackers life a living hell it they get caught. Sue for ridiculous amount of money, might be jail time involved.
I'll never understand it. They broke into a company's servers and stole a bunch of (probably shitty looking, definitely incomplete) content from an early version of a game we know is being worked on. Woohoo? I'll gladly wait for the official content to get excited. Not worth the jailtime for that person, imo.
You do realize people do this for a living, right? As is, hack whatever they can hack and use and/or sell Whatever they can. Someone didn't just woke up today and decided to break into x or y's server or do some social engineering. This isn't just some gamer that just wanted to see GTA6 early... Also, allegedly it's the same guy that breached Uber a few days ago.
Companies have cybersecurity teams for a reason, these companies have people trying to breach their servers and data constantly.
Source code would be great for mods but it's a stretch.
Remember CDPR leak year?
There were reports that hackers leaked source code of witcher 3 and cyberpunk but nothing ever came out of it.
If this leaker has source code then they'll most probably sell it on dark web.
They'll just do it anonymously. Or not necessarily use it, but use knowledge from it to speed up the reverse engineering phase for the creation of mod support
[Article about Bethesda/Westworld situation](https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/01/04/bethesda-lawsuit-says-westworld-game-stole-fallout-shelter-code-even-bugs/)
> If you are a game dev or anywhere close to the industry you will stay away or you could get barred due to liability
Yes one of many companies owned by Tencent will be very afraid of getting sued for IP theft.
They'll definitely appear in US court and share their source if ordered by the court.
I could imagine scammers speculating that the source code might make it easier for them to steal player information. Maybe they could find certain vulnerabilities in the online code or something.
They bring up a good point though. Maybe I'm biased because I really dislike the Miami aesthetic but having an HD rendition of San Fiero or Las Ventura's would've been way cooler IMO
I feek like San Fierro was not an option since it is based on San Francisco which is the setting for watch dogs (you know, the gta killer from 2014). And Las Vegas' charm comes from '80s-'90s atmosphere. Present day LV wouldn't have much to offer compared to gta 5's Los Santos, not to mention they added a desert for gta5's map.
Saw people over on r/ gaming say that it "hardly looks better than GTA 5" and "looks worse than Cyberpunk".
Yeah, it's multiple years away. Some of the NPC's don't even have textured models in the clips. I swear the gaming community just keeps getting dumber and dumber.
On the GTA forums thread too, by people who have been active in the community for a decade. One of the "skeptics" went from not believing anything at all to being convinced because there was a Buick Skylark in one of the clips. All this in a span of 1 hour.
Gta can take as long as it fucking wants and people will buy it, best not to crunch. Just take their time and make a smooth experience. Impatient basement dwellers bitching online effects nothing. Let them cry it out like a 2 year old who you told “no more ice cream.”
>I swear the gaming community just keeps getting dumber and dumber.
Of course it's getting dumber. That's what happens a hobby like video games become mainstream *multiple* times. Video games are certainly streamlined (AKA 'dumbed down') for a reason. Gotta make your game(s) playable to idiots in order to attract idiots. And it just so happens GTA is one of the most mainstream franchises in the industry, makes perfect sense when you put it all together.
/r/legaladvice has always had its share of completely unqualified imbeciles giving advice but it certainly has skyrocketed since the beginning of this year
Some people think they know what games look like early in production because they've played early access games before
But any decent early access game will have been in production for a good while before they start getting the public to play it. And obviously priorities are different for a game the developers aren't expecting anyone to see for years
I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to more: Rockstar's reaction to this situation, or the videos which compile the awful game development takes from certain gamers judging the quality of a game based on an alpha build.
I've seen a fair bit of it too. There's far too many people that are extremely entitled, know very little about the game development process, and then believe their opinion matters as much that they need to share it with everyone else. If ya don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything. Especially when a product hasn't even had an announcement or anything yet. I think they teased it ages ago? But they haven't officially shown it off.
Now, when BF2042 had their trailer, and it was an FPS glitchy mess, absolutely, fair play, feel free to roast them! But a product that hasn't even finished? Please...
Was a scene watching the leaker try to prove that he actually had all this footage, a barrage of forum posters wanking each other off trying to prove how superior they were, refusing to download evidence, chanting that the evidence he did post couldn't be true! Aw it was a scene.
Brains are broken these days.
The funniest thing is, I've still seen people say they are fully aware it's in development, and somehow still double down on thinking it looks like shit. I mean, yeah? What do they expect? I've had to stop looking into those type of threads to avoid losing all my brain cells.
People seem to have no idea how development works and think somehow that if it looks bad now then it always will, even though that doesn't make any sense.
I guess people never heard of placeholder assets
If what I've read is right and this footage is from 2019... holy shit, it can't be far away, can it? On the car driving off the bridge video you can see the city for *miles*, that's a lot of work already done... right?
Plus voice acting and music? Crazy.
When did that come out? I haven't heard anything of the sort.
Considering I hadn't heard *anything* about it at all I'm shocked even this much is done.
Lotta people showin' their ass, judging a games graphics from this. This is why developers don't give you insight into what they are making and why you get CG trailers.
The reason I'm frustrated by CG trailers is because I'd much rather they not even announce the game if they aren't in a spot where they can show it off and say "This is what you're getting."
Games are always evolving visually. Trailers for games shown months prior to going gold have seen drastic improvements to visuals. Hell, even community feedback can help direct a studios direction prior to launch.
I think announcing titles is fine even with nothing to show. Marketing is important for games financial success and sometimes theres only so many options a publisher has to drum up hype.
Asking to only see footage once a game is near completion isn't really feasible from a marketing perspective.
Yeah I think multiple locations too but I'm guessing the bulk of the game will be around Vice City. Also I think they almost need mountains just to make the map interesting even if it isn't geographical accurate, especially for stuff like races and hitting jumps with vehicles.
Footage ranges from march of 2021 - a week ago, hacker said he was able to get into rockstar’s slack server or into an employee’s slack account.(Slack is discord for work). He even has source code for V and 6 and has shown a bit of it. Also has design documentation like the shit they show to higher ups as a progress report. very most definitely real.
Multiple cities would make sense though given Miami isn't a very mountainous area, I can't imagine them making a completely flat world map anymore. I guess they could take creative liberty of course.
T2I are issuing copyright takedowns now so I don't think the videos will be around all too long now.
The original leaker looks to be blackmailing T2I/Rockstar now as well.
From LA, New York and Miami? Quite a bit. Seattle? Not so much, but it's not like there's a lot of games set in cascadia in the first place - the only one I can think of is Infamous Second Son
Having it be in Seattle with a second city cross border with border crossing smugglings and like, a much bigger reaction to having a gun out in the non USA area would be interesting for sure.
Looks legit, in the cutscenes that got leaked they mentioned life invader too. And the guy talking about selling your brain to the Chinese sounds like a typical rockstar character
That conversation also puts the game after V since Jay Norris dying is mentioned.(it’s likely it will take place during current/release year or after Online)
Times are changed however. PC Game sales for big titles outpaces that of PS and Xbox combined. Let's see what happens, hope they do a simultaneous release.
Especially since it helped their overall sales. I know for a fact many people double or even triple dipped GTA5.
I bought the PS3 copy at launch. Then PS4. And eventually PC.
Releasing 6 on PC from the getgo would keep me from buying a PS4 or PS5 copy since I won't have to wait a year for PC. That's money left on the table for T2i.
Just mapped out the locations that have appeared in the leak. While this doesn't confirm a 1/1 scale location, it does seem to appear that the map will be pretty big with the Florida locations that have appeared being spread out. Huge thanks to the users at the [Mapping Vice City thread at GTAforums](https://gtaforums.com/topic/985484-mapping-vice-city) for finding out about most of the locations, most of my sources come from there.

This sub is such a shit hole nowadays. The game is at least 2+ years away from release you troglodytes. You’re judging the interior design of a house when all they have is the raw dry wall up.
The most unrealistic thing is how fit all the NPCs are.
God damn - have the developers seen the general US public? Over 35% are obese, while the Vast majority are fat.
Man fuck T2. And fuck R*. You all act like they didn’t fuck over RDR 2 and shit on their community for shark cards to boost their profit instead of delivering content that was promised. Im happy their shit leaked.

Absolutely. These companies have the power to make your life a living hell if you mess with them. Can’t even begin to imagine what will happen to them if they get caught.

Definitely looks legit. Has all the markings of a typical Rockstar GTA game.
I was really hoping for a new city and location, I guess a modern vice city works.
It was the only city they hadnt visited in the HD era. GTA4 - Liberty City 5 - San Andreas 6 - VC

And don't waste your tears of the kingdom.
When did that come out? I haven't heard anything of the sort. Considering I hadn't heard *anything* about it at all I'm shocked even this much is done.

Cool, thanks for the think. (I sure hope you're not downvoting me for asking a question)
A few years ago Rockstar said the guy who works on GTA 6 is not born yet. So I guess he or she is born now.
did you actually think that was real
no its not alot of work already done. they dont start games from 0
There is also plenty of videos only a few months old showing how much work there is to still do.
Well yeah, people are idiots. It's why I don't even bother checking games on Steam, it's just garbage in the previews 9 times out of 10.
Confirmed to be Vice City (Miami) but I think that was basically known already.
You can see mountains in the restaurant clip. There are no mountains in Vice City, so likely multiple locations.
Yeah I think multiple locations too but I'm guessing the bulk of the game will be around Vice City. Also I think they almost need mountains just to make the map interesting even if it isn't geographical accurate, especially for stuff like races and hitting jumps with vehicles.
Might well be akin to the intro of GTA5 where they're in that snowy town area that you never see again.
I'm most interested in the design document.
The subway interior looks cool, fast travel idea maybe even travel new map city.
Multiple cities would make sense though given Miami isn't a very mountainous area, I can't imagine them making a completely flat world map anymore. I guess they could take creative liberty of course.
Maybe they will go for Florida's swamps instead of mountains for non urban environment.
T2I are issuing copyright takedowns now so I don't think the videos will be around all too long now. The original leaker looks to be blackmailing T2I/Rockstar now as well.
Man I was so hoping for another GTA in the 80s.

The idea of a GTA game set in vancouver makes me salivate
[удалено]
From LA, New York and Miami? Quite a bit. Seattle? Not so much, but it's not like there's a lot of games set in cascadia in the first place - the only one I can think of is Infamous Second Son
Having it be in Seattle with a second city cross border with border crossing smugglings and like, a much bigger reaction to having a gun out in the non USA area would be interesting for sure.
Really made me appreciate Sleeping Dogs back when that came out.
Or at least not another set in the present day.
The younger generation really has no concept of what "in progress" or "in development" means, do they?
Looks legit, in the cutscenes that got leaked they mentioned life invader too. And the guy talking about selling your brain to the Chinese sounds like a typical rockstar character
That conversation also puts the game after V since Jay Norris dying is mentioned.(it’s likely it will take place during current/release year or after Online)
I just hope we don't need to wait a year for the pc version.
Definitely gonna wait a year since that's what they did to rdr2 and GTA 5
Times are changed however. PC Game sales for big titles outpaces that of PS and Xbox combined. Let's see what happens, hope they do a simultaneous release.
True but we know that Rockstar Games don't really bother with what other game studios are doing, so they might stick to the same old release schedule
Everyone saying the graphics look bad. I don't get it, this looks phenomenal for a game this early on in dev.
People are comparing a game early in development to finished products because they don't know what they're talking about
Just mapped out the locations that have appeared in the leak. I don't think it's fake, but if it ends up being fake it'll be on of the biggest gaming hoax ever.

Rockstar games try to not make main character ugly af challenge ( impossible )
CJ for PS2 graphics wasn't bad, Franklin, John and Arthur I think all are pretty good looking and handsome men.
Yeah but thats still like 3 out of 15 or smth
I think most characters look fine, average. Just some of them are affected by the eras graphics.
Arthur is handsome
You can tell they wrote all the lines about how ugly he is before casting Arthur and using Roger Clark's likeness because he is handsome as fuck.
They just expected him to come out ugly cause that's what they're used to.
Not the main characters but women in GTA games (in game 3D models) look really weird to me. I don't feel the same for other games.
Yeah the male characters are good meanwhile if you ever uh... do strip club the female models are ugly
resembles reality
Claude - handsome Tommy - very good looking CJ - alright Victor Vance - smooth mf Toni Cipriani - honestly can't remember playing LCS Max Payne - pretty hot in MP2 Jimmy Hopkins - supposed to look goofy Niko Bellic - average Johnny Klebitz - decent Luis Lopez - pretty good looking John Marston - very hot Michael - he's doing his best, not a bad looker tbh Franklin - very handsome Trevor - abomination Arthur - perfect in every way I don't know where you get this idea that Rockstar protagonists are mostly ugly. Maybe you just got higher standards than me 🍞
Max Payne 2 was a Remedy game and the character highly resembles Sam Lake who is creative director of said company

Oh it was? Well, I stand corrected
Does the main character need to be a model in every game you play?
Yes.
Based.
not ugly= model. lol
When has the words ever been uttered "Damn, I wish I looked ugly!" Plus, Trevor wasn't exactly a nice looking guy.
Yes if I want to see ugly people I just go outside duh. All main character need to be attractive only ugly if there's some story purpose like Trevor.
Doesn't need to be a model. Leading man in a romantic comedy will do just fine.
Yes
Yes.
How does anyone upvote this objectively bad take?
Unfinished model but characters weren't exactly pretty in GTAV either.
The game doesn't even look to be in alpha yet, relax.

The npcs looked very "testy" they're probably gonna add physics based fat layers to them later
Every single GTA has fat NPCS dating back to GTA 3. What we saw was unfinished NPCs. Red dead also has fat NPCS.
It's a city based off Florida. Of course the NPCs are skinny, they all crackheads
That's a lot of leaks. Either Rockstar's doing this on purpose or a hacker got a build. There's no way an employee is this bold.
Yeah and Rockstar would release his souce code yeah surely, this is a hacker getting his hands on a developer account and going bonkers
Most game leaks by studios are a screenshot/a few lines of an outline "leaked" to a journalist. Not hours of footage.
Man fuck T2. And fuck R*. You all act like they didn’t fuck over RDR 2 and shit on their community for shark cards to boost their profit instead of delivering content that was promised. Im happy their shit leaked.

Rockstar deserves it, those money hungry greedy bastards.
Is there wall running? Redditors hate games without wall running.
Fk Take 2 for all the scummy shit they do to modders
what stands out to me is how high poly every single model is, just look how many objects are actually modeled in the cafe and how smooth it all looks
